Despite her long tenure, she remains genuinely passionate about her work. After the passing of her husband of 27 years, my stepdad, in 2020, things were hard. Mom couldn't live alone anymore. I tried two assisted living homes, but they didn't compare to Landmark. The staff here, from the receptionist to the caretakers to the med techs to the executives overseeing the place, are all wonderful. Every day there is a schedule of activities, from balloon badminton to trivia to bingo. They have tea parties, live music, happy hours. Today when I visited mom activity coordinator Mariah was doing her nails. That is above and beyond in my book. They decorate for every holiday. The lobby, dining room and individual rooms are inviting and bright. The energy is great. Bottom line: I haven't seen my mom this happy in years. And that gives me peace of mind you can't put a price on.

The apartment kitchen is full, though whoever thought putting the freezer on top of the fridge should be relegated to a lifetime of stooping to find things. PUblic spaces are well designed too, espcially the main foyer. And for now at least the price is relatively good. Staff is very friendly and helps whenever possible. (A special shout-out to Facility Manager Art Blancas.) A major flaw is the food. You pay for it whether you eat it or not. The few times we tried it meats were vastly overcooked and tasteless. (Salads are good.) So we buy our own food and cook it.

It is a beautiful facility, with spacious rooms, a lot of activities, impressive meals and caring staff. The initial meetings with Dominic Ong are what sealed the deal. He was a great listener, helped us problem solve, listened to our needs and was transparent on pricing and ways we could potentially save. He did not sell us any gimmicks and was very sincere. Ended up canceling scheduled appointment because after asking her or trying to find information on covid protocol, visiting hours and etc. she right away wanted to know billing information, which my mom is covered, told me about not having female beds and mentioned to have covid cases. Of course, after she mentioned Covid, I canceled our future meeting. I felt like she was very hesitant on providing location information. Oh, young man at the door was friendly and professional.

I liked Baywood Court the best because there is no expensive buy-in and the monthly rent is reasonable. From number 16 on the waiting list I was able to move in at mid-February. I have a one-bedroom apartment of 600 square feet facing the pool. It's between two exits so it's very convenient for my dog to go out for his business. Plus there is a half-mile trail inside the facility for his daily walk. I enjoy going through the Rose Garden and the Gazebo along many beautiful flowers and plants. Living at Baywood is like living in a hotel or a cruise ship. There is 24/7 lighting and air conditioning/heat throughout the building. I get weekly house-cleaning, change of bed linens and towels. I just leave my garbage at the door and all the packages I ordered are delivered to me . The two meals a day can be stretched to three because of the many options I can choose. In the one year I have been here, I have not cooked one meal for myself. No more driving to the gym. I just walk down the hall to my Tai Chi, Chair Yoga, and Zumba classes. We also have lots of performance by outside artists and regular health and informational meetings. Just this week we had Martini Monday, Coffee Social, and Tequila Thursday. You can play pool, jigsaw puzzles, Mahjong and many table games at the Game Room. There are also daily drive to shopping and regular visit to museums and scenic areas. Baywwod also has many group activities such as Sunday mass, Thursday Bible study, grief sharing, Spanish class, arts and crafts, movie and sports night, etc. I joined the Knit Wits to make projects for charity. I am the inventory manager and also volunteer as a cashier for our general store called The Cubby. The staff at every Department here are friendly and efficient. I love the community of other residents. The management does such a good job that I was pleasantly surprised when our rent did not go up for this year. I am so glad God provided me Baywood Court where I can live out the rest of my years feeling safe and secure.

(For context, a year ago my mother was at a different facility that I would definitely not consider again, plus I have toured several other places, talked to many people, and done lots of research.) Baywood SNF has the highest five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The nurses and doctors are amazing. Dedicated, knowledgeable, compassionate and always available to help my dad or answer our questions. I received regular updates in-person or over the phone. And importantly, they were always well-staffed and attentive - staffing ratios are important for patient care and to avoid staff burnout. Baywood is also clean and new, with beautiful landscaped grounds and good food. For a challenging time in our lives, I had such peace of mind that my dad was in good hands and well-taken care. I imagine we might need a skilled nursing facility again and I will only consider Baywood Court.

The facility seemed really nice. The staff were very freindly and there was coffee and cookies by the front door everyday. They have allot of events and activities daily and weekly that my mom seems to enjoy. The staff are as good as they get but i started noticing allot of turn over in employees . We had started to notice staffing shortages as well. My only concern is that my mother with all of her medical issues is well taken care of and that she is well tended to. After catching wind of all the staffing issues and possible management problems the family started to get concerned. Then just today i receive several calls from my mother on her cell phone which we made sure she has with her at all times. She calls and tells me shes been in her room put down to bed at 6:45 and she has used the bathroom and no body has checked in on her. So i called the front desk and they said that some one will be there shortly. 30 minute later the care takers came into the room with me on the phone and attended to her. The problem is that my mother was in a uncomfortable situation for a hour with no one tending to her. I can only imaging what it would be like for other residents that dont have a cell phone

My mother lived at Driftwood Manor for 7-1/2 years until her death last year. She had Alzheimer's…read moredisease, as well as diabetes (type II). In the 7-1/2 years, they never did manage her diabetes well enough to call it controlled, let alone well controlled. They had control of her diet and her medications, she was immobile; I am not sure why 7-1/2 years was not long enough to figure out a balance in that area. There were several owners of the nursing home during her stay there. Nursing homes typically change hands a lot. At one point, they tried to kick her out because the current ownership wanted to turn the nursing home into a rehab facility and a younger - more rehab type of patient - was being sexually inappropriate with several elderly patients. My mother had Alzheimer's and was unable to make responsible decisions. The other patient had been in a motorcycle accident and was in his supposedly right mind. She had inappropriate behavior with this one other patient; he had inappropriate behavior with several other patients. They tried to kick my mother out. There were some wonderful people on staff over the years and some less wonderful - like anywhere else. Some of the nurses and aids really cared about her and some clearly did not. Some nurses would take the time to negotiate with her and get her medications in her; some would just move on. There were times I visited her for hours and no one came in to change or turn her. Toward the end of her life, she was nonverbal and totally bed bound. During this time, I sat at her bedside for 2-3 hours at times and no one came in to turn her or change her. This was not just once or twice or during a short period of time. This was a regular occurrence over years. We looked around at a few different points and found that some other nursing homes looked better on paper, but weren't any better in person. Some nursing homes looked better on the surface, but had more violations than Driftwood. In the end, we didn't move her. It's hard to say if that was wise or not. Medicare no longer pays for any care related to bedsores because bedsores are 100% preventable by adequate nursing care. The last 1-1/2 to 2 years of my mother's life, she was in excruciating - 100% preventable - pain. The standard of care for a bed bound patient is an alternating air pressure mattress. Driftwood didn't provide one until after my mother had a bedsore. When my mother was dying, she was transferred to a hospital and I was there for dressing changes. Her bedsore was Stage III. There are only four stages and at stage IV, you can typically see the bone. Her suffering was preventable, but was not prevented. Her nursing care was inadequate. Driftwood is a nursing home. They are not great places to spend the end of a person's life. We could not afford better for my mother, which is a shame. If your family can afford better, I would strongly recommend you make that happen for them. If not, I strongly recommend that available family members become educated about the care needed for their loved one's care and make a coordinated effort to make sure that care is received. My mother's husband visited her every day she was there, but was ignorant, and assumed they were doing their job. That was very unfortunate for my mother.

Patients who are supposed to get up and walk every day (with assistance) or turned 3 to 4 times a day to avoid bed sores, they will be neglected! This is a truthful statement, I ought to know, they took care of my father-in-law.

It was definitely nicer than the establishment she had been to previously, but average by normal standards. The staff was kind and responsive when we asked for assistance with her. However, I did notice she had a lot of down time and there didn't seem to be all that much interaction with her. When I arrived to see her, she was asleep in her wheelchair in the hall by her room which made me a bit sad. I would rather have seen her interacting in a public area or resting in her bed if she was too tired. I will say that our family got great assistance from Jon Lee during one of our visits. He was extremely helpful and friendly and a pleasure to have around. I hope he keeps his spark and encourages others to provide that same personal level of service. It really made the visit with our loved one special.

My mother was here for a short time a few years ago . It was around $200 a day for the 5 months…read morethat she was there. She passed away after being taken to the hospital which was no fault of the facility but she did not stay the entire month and the facility refused to issue a refund for the days that she was charged but not there any longer. I sent a registered letter demanding payment to the address that I had been sending the checks to and it came back saying that the facility had moved even though I knew that they were still there. Should have taken them to court but I never did because I live out of state. If you decide to use this facility at least make sure you get the terms straight up front and try not to pay in advance.
