Its supposed to be a Christian organization that helps those who need help. Not so much. I scheduled a pickup for quality furniture; recliner, desk, etc. Were they in absolute perfect condition? No. Was it in very good condition, structurally sound, required a little Resolve or a little TLC - yes. These were quality used furniture that someone who has little or none or whose looking to personalize their furniture would buy. The driver was rude. Telling an 80+ year woman to remove a furniture cover. A pulled up a corner & said no. A chair that has always been covered. Neither I, my family, friends, coworker (current & past, shall know this organization is not a worthwhile Christian organization. The driver called me 18 times before the 7:30 AM window began. There was work being done on my street so I had previously left a message telling them it might be inaccessible and apologizing that it was out of my control. His rabid calls were shunted to spam, but I was waiting an alert when they rang the doorbell and answered it in seconds. I opened the door to two angry, glaring, nasty complaining men. They were intimidating, bullying rude to the point of discomfort, had no intentions whatsoever of taking any of the furniture. It was clear immediately they didn't want to look at anything, from 8 feet away. He said there were scratches had no real explanation and tried to gaslight me. I was too in shock at his attitude and quite frankly very scared of them having been alone in the house to really say anything. I asked him if he could take some of the other donations and he said no, which was not the message I was given on the phone. This was an absolutely horrible experience and they should be ashamed of themselves. I can see there's other people that have had the same thing happened to them. The dining room set we want to donate is in good shape, but your drivers wouldn't even take the China Cabinet that is in perfect shape because of a couple of minor stains on 2 of the chairs. I'm glad to see that many other reviewers felt that this "thrift" store is way overpriced. The first thing I picked up was a small figurine - nothing special, no markings but cute. $18. Pocketbooks? $40-50 for the non-designer ones. Besides being overpriced, there were two floors with a tall set of stairs. Not very good for people with mobility challenges. Two men came with a truck to my house. They refused to take anything. We had a loveseat, two twin bedroom sets, a two-year old kitchen table with four kitchen chairs, two wooden short file cabinets and a large mirror. They looked at everything and said, "faded", "nicked", etc. In my opinion, every single thing was in good condition. I couldn't believe it. Do they only take new furniture? Aren't they selling, or giving to needy people, used furniture? I asked the driver, "Why?" after he refused the first item (I was just curious...I didn't have an attitude.). We had a gently used kitchen table with 6 near mint condition chairs. There was a weeks wait for pickup (anytime between 8 AM and 4 PM.) We put the chairs in front of the garage for easy access. Two men came inside for the table. Not even two minutes passed with a quick inspection and one said, "we can't take this, it has nicks"! I couldn't believe it. I thought their organization's purpose is to help those in need financially. I told them if you want perfect condition furniture, why not buy it at Bob's or Raymore & Flanagan's! As a result, all pieces were left at the curb for garbage pickup. A total waste since a family in need could have used it. We will NEVER call them again as they obviously are not truly helping the needy, but rather profiting from furniture sales! Maybe they should partner with Bob's to split the proceeds. We came in here over the weekend. Furniture is very overpriced and I found that a lot of the clothing and jewelry was overpriced as well. I was disappointed to see this and it does not feel very charitable. The store is quite large but very organized. What I didn't like was that my MIL sat down from being tired - we were shopping together and she was approached by an employee asking if she bought anything. It is their discretion what they take, which I understand. To my surprise, they came to the house and took two lamps. I have a brand new recliner couch from Bobs discount furniture in brown textured chenille and they refused it because " it looked bleached". The real reason was the movers , one of them was an older man, didn't feel like lifting it. The guys who delivered were horrible! I will never forget how they treated my sister. They called early in the morning to deliver a bed that was supposed to be delivered on a different date . They then said they don't do deliveries on the second floor then when they got to the apartment and moved the bed inside they ask if there was someone to help then left the bed inside the hallway and said to put it where you want then left. Ofcourse when you call you can't get anyone on the phone but a voicemail was left . Never again! In June 2023, at the St. Vincent De Paul store in Garden City on Jericho Turnpike, I bought two brand new sealed bags of underwear. I bought a size large (34-36). I opened one bag, and I tried on a pair. It was terribly undersized. The "large" pair fit a male friend of mine who has a 24 inch waist. I went back in August with the other unopened bag and my receipt, and Anthony the manager refused to give me store credit or allow me to exchange my purchase for something else. That is totally unfair. If the bag is unopened and you have the original receipt, I think that is totally unacceptable. Therefore, I advise you NOT to buy any sealed bags of underwear or socks since unless you return it ONE day later as Anthony stated, you are out of luck. The prices for their clothing are fair and so is the dishware, but I won't be shopping there anymore. They have lost me as a customer. read more

Awesome donation store with all kinds of stuff. Furniture, art, bricabrac, clothes, jewelry and if you need bar stools they have a ton of them. From not to expensive to moderately expensive, its really luck if you find any treasures. They do have sales and consistently mark items down. I also donate to this store. Donations are accepted around back at the loading dock. You drop off your items and they provide you with your form for tax purposes. No treasures for me today, but its always fun to search. read more

I love this thrift shop! I moved to NYC last year and didn't realize there was a St Vincent here. My boyfriend lives near by and we drove past. I came last December and had been wanting to create a Christmas Village. I got so many ceramic homes and other decor for only $1 each! I also got some baskets. Baskets can be really expensive but I got a package of 3 good sized wicker baskets for $8 total! I use 2 in the bathroom and 1 in my pantry. There's a lot of deals on everything. I should start out by saying that numerous people warned me against using the donation department of this thrift store to donate my couch. It's sad that they already have a terrible reputation. I made arrangements to have my couch picked up: gave dimensions and a photo and was told it would be picked up between 8 AM and 12 PM. I took the day off from work had everything ready and when the gentleman arrived they said they did not need the couch. They offered to leave it at the curb for me which is no help because that would be considered a violation in my town. They carry mostly furniture and home furnishings, so if you're in a tight fix or want something with that great vintagey second-hand vibe don't right off this powerful little establishment. They do accept donations and you can call them to find out where to drop off (in the back) and along with drop off times. I would also inquire with them on what they accept, they didn't accept my electronics, books, or sports equipment. So just ask. Also, for donating furniture they can give you a tax write-off. See? Things within the last two years are overpriced and the sales staff is not willing to work with buyers. After my experience today, I refer to this organization as St Paul Da Picky. I offered to donate furniture and had the truck driver tell me "We don't take that style". He later told his supervisor the arm of the sofa was "dirty". The sofa shows sign of normal wear. The only reason I was donating it, I'm selling my house and moving to Florida. So based on this experience, the poor and needy will only take showroom quality items in pristine condition. I will NEVER donate or contribute to St Vincent Da Picky in any way, shape or form in the future. I to made the mistake of calling St Vincent De Paul to donate a whole house of furniture due to a death in the family. I spoke with someone who told the that the had a truck to send over that day and they would call a half hour before coming and that was all I was told. Two men arrived at the house and gave a quick look around and began to take pieces of a bedroom set then took a matching set of living room tables. They left the matching head boards and foot boards because the are not allowed to take anything apart then they went through and made believe they were inspecting the rest of the furniture. I had a dinning room set that they claimed needed repair and a couch that was stained oddly enough I could not find any of the things the claimed was wrong. I seemed if it was heavy or hard to move it was broken and stained. The people pricing things here are insane.. just because there is some delusional ebay seller trying to get $500 for a painting or record, doesn't mean it's worth close to that... especially in a 2nd hand store! Things sit for months, getting reduced slowly till they reach an approachable price. This place needs a reality check on the business they're running and the people they are serving. Well, I'm confirming that they only want perfect (eg. brand new) furniture. 2 guys came and studied every piece as they were buying the hope diamond. eg., I have a $3500 curio that was my rich Aunts and need to get rid of it b/c I am moving. It's too good to junk. Great piece w/ glass shelves. collector would probably pay for it. Not one scratch except the bottom. They said "nope". I had those furniture pens that could color the scratch away. They didn't even want to try it. Their eyes went to my brand new dining table/chairs and wanted to take that, thinking that was up for grabs. I didn't even bother to show them my five piece bedroom set.
