It will take well into 2023 till the horrible mess will have grown out. The three inch chunks (this is considered long layers) will take several years to grow out. After four months, it's still only slightly lower than my eyes, I wanted long layers, I got a long mullet. It was like a bowl was placed on the top of my head, and it was cut around. The three grey looking highlights I was given didn't constitute my request for lots of golden blonde highlights (yes three). If I can offer one word of advice, it would be go to a professional salon!
