Great haircuts & atmosphere. It's exactly what you think of when you think old school barbershop. They treated each customer with respect and had actual conversations. No one was rushed in and out of the door. The owner helped fix my toddler's DIY haircut. She went above and beyond anything she had to do to make him comfortable. She even pretended to give him the full package with a warm towel and facial massage. It was truly adorable! First this was my primary barber shop in the area, I had been there multiple times. I give it two stars as some of the barbers give good beard trims others are so-so, I had an appointment for 1pm after arriving early and waiting 30 more minutes, I ask what time it is, and the owner snaps at me. "is there something wrong", yes it is 30 min over my appointment time, "well we are a barbershop, so some customers take longer than others", " that's ok, I do not have to be happy about it either". To which the owner replied "well I am not going to force you to do anything you don't want". Honestly the guy that I was waiting for to be finished did not look happy about his cut, and I was apprehensive about the barber as I was not impressed with what I was seeing. I've been going to these guys twice a month for 3 months and I would've been a customer for life. But after what happened today I will NEVER set foot in this place again. I waited in line for an hour (happy to do so, they do great work) and it was finally my turn. I had an appointment starting in an hour so I was pressed for time. The dude that walked in 5 minutes before was told to come sit down. I objected saying that "It was my turn" The red haired lady said "he has an appointment" Here's the thing... He didn't. I know that because I asked him while she was at the back of the shop and he said "No". When I explained that to her she had all kinds of excuses but she STRAIGHT UP LIED to my face. The first time I was here Julia did an amazing job with my hair and beard. Unfortunately she never got to cut my hair after that. I don't know if she was off the clock, on a break, or just didn't want to cut my hair or beard. I thought I had left a decent tip, perhaps it wasn't big enough? I have been there maybe half a dozen times in the past year. I kept coming back hoping it would be like the first time. It never happened. I took no stars off for the colorful language and kids that sometimes hang around as I don't really mind it. If that bothers you, you've been warned. I took 1 star off for not being organized. No one keeps track of who's next. There's no numbering system. Sometimes it feels like you're back in the playground standing in a line waiting to be picked for dodgeball. I took 2 stars off for the wait. Good God the wait is horrendous: 1-1.5 hrs on a weekday, 1.5-2.5 hrs on a weekend, JUST FOR THEM TO GET TO YOU!! I understand supply and demand and that in order to keep the stylists always working you always need to have someone waiting, but it is just not worth my time. If you have a 2-3 hours to kill just to save $5- $10 dollars on a haircut, maybe this is the place for you. My time is worth much more than that. I would rather pay an extra $10 and not have 2 hours of my life wasted. For that reason alone I will not be patronizing this place again. read more

Some good barbers but they have no idea of what customer service is. I understand that appointment system is tough, but if the barber is running an hour late and you took my telephone number - call me. So now I get a message from Lindsay about cursing at her worker - Yes I said it is BS that I arrive for appointment and was told that my barber was running an hour behind. Lindsay claims that I was told half an hour - lie. Now this is from a "lady" who when she cut my hair every other word was the F word. I even tried to call the shop shortly after I left and told them all I wanted was for them to call me and let me know they were running an hour late. She has told me that I was not welcome at her shop and I think I will sit off her property with signs about how they conduct business. read more

Decent cut and trim when you can get it. However, actually getting a seat in the barber chair is a hassle. They only accept walk-ins (no appointments) and too often stop accepting walk-ins 2-3 hours before closing. After being turned away and told to come back Monday when they are less busy (check the website, they make a big about coming in on Mondays) the barber shop was closed at 4:00 PM (August 8th). Given that the cuts are good not great, the wait can be an hour or more and they are bit pricey; I'd recommend going somewhere that takes appointments. First let me tell you what Stache is not; It is not a salon. And it is not a place for the thin skinned, easily offended, politically correct. It's probably not the place to take your grandmother to get ready for Friday Bingo. And although there was much swearing and joking, everyone was enjoying their day at work. What's cool about this place is the story and the owner. Lindsey LOVES what she does. She's has wanted to be a Barber since she was little. Schooled by a seasoned veteran (her Uncle) and determined to preserve the art. She leaves a lucrative government job which had her held up in an office, with no windows, and no people to interact with. This is impossible to imagine after you spend 60 seconds with her. Now all that is great, but if you can't Barber, then all you have is a good story and a 5 year lease. This girl can cut. She takes her time, and does it right. If you're a guy with a beard, this is the ONLY place you should be going. She is skilled at trimming beards, and mustaches, and has great products to sell for those who take pride in their beard grooming. She gets excited about your haircut. She offends and entertains. Her crew all seem to enjoy being there, and I can't imagine she would keep them if they were not up to snuff. Why not 5 stars? The language. Will I return? Heck yeah. I may not appreciate the language, but I'd be lying if I denied that she not only made me laugh a lot, she gave me the best haircut and beard trim I have had in this area, ever. read more

Finding a good barbershop in your hometown is tough enough, but finding one on the road is damn near impossible. Thankfully, I came across Stache. Chelsea cut my hair and did a fantastic job. She had one of the most gentle touches I've ever encountered while being very thorough. Beard was tight, lines were tight, and style was on point. The owner of this shop has the mouth of a sailor, which I love, but may put some people off. When kids are around she curtails the salty language, so it's really not an issue unless you have delicate ears. If I pass through Fredericksburg again I'll make sure to hit Stache. read more

I've been here twice now, so I think it's a fair time to write a review. The first time with Lindsay was excellent. The wait was not long and she gave me the cut I was looking for. The second time I went with the other girl (she seemed new but I don't remember her name) because I didn't want to wait. Big mistake. The cut was very uneven and really just botched all around. She did a good job on the beard, but that doesn't justify the overall cut. Lesson learned. Get your hair cut by Lindsay. If you don't want to wait too long, come in earlier (before 4-5pm). read more

This shop came highly recommended by my bearded co-workers. Went in and asked the barber for a High Skin Fade and said that I have a ridge on the back of my head. I would like it tapered from there and a hard part on the left side. I also wanted to tighten up my beard... thank God he didn't touch that! I have gone to two other shops in the last two years, and have never had issues until today. He started off in the middle of the back of my head, switching razors many times. Each time, I trusted what he was doing as the reviews and my friends spoke highly of the shop. A phone call came in and I took a moment to run my hands over the cut, it was short (which was ok) but went almost all the way up to the top of my head!!! No fade, no blend, no taper... I asked about it and he was quick to apologize... "i'm sorry for your horrible haircut". I had only commented how short it was, and I said I trusted him to finish it and make it look like it was even. He quickly trimmed a little off the top and took the drape off and told me I was done. I asked "Is my haircut done, or just are you done?" He said he was done because I didnt like it and that it wasnt what I wanted. There was no customer service. He just kicked me out of the chair! I have never, NEVER been treated like that as a customer. He was rude, short, unapologetic and did not fix anything. Now I am left with a short cut that I have to try to save elsewhere. I am appalled by the complete lack of concern and "just get out" attitude. As I walked out, I heard the lady working comment to him that he did take it really high... First time experience, and the last. To whomever owns this shop, I would be ashamed of the lack of customer service and dismissal of a customer. Will never recommend this place, as they don't care. I had a great experience here and will be back. The haircut with fade was amazing and beard trimming was also great. The people who work here seem to really take their time and are detailed. A fun recommendation would be to offer maybe a beer or two for customers of age. So, my wait was just over an hour; while they have comfortable chairs, beer would make waiting not bad. read more

Bottom line, this place is really frustrating and even more expensive - I won't be going back again and I don't recommend it unless you need someone to style your massive beard. Been trying different barbers in Stache for two months, once every two weeks since moving to town - military fade on the side and a loose comb-over on top should be simple enough but I have only gotten uneven, badly shaped haircuts here. The women (the only barbers i saw give good haircuts) are always so busy that you can't get seen by them. One guy gives an okay haircut, but not good enough to offset how rude he gets if you dislike something during the haircut. Like i said upfront, won't be going back. read more

I hate to even do this because it's only going to increase the wait time... but if you are looking for a barber shop in Fredericksburg then look no further. The staff (and I mean every single one) is amazing. Cleanest fades, best beard care, amazing cuts are a few of the highlights here at Stache. Now to address the common thread that people discuss... the dreaded wait... sometimes it can be long, be prepared for that. But the reason you wait is because these guys are quality over quantity, when it's your turn it's a sure thing that they will take the time to make you look amazing. The other thing to discuss, while kids are 100% welcome occasionally the place gets a little rowdy. The signs on the door of parental advisory for language are needed although most barbers and patrons do a good job when the kids are there. I'll give a pro tip, don't call and ask about the wait time (if it's the owner that answers you might get a response that lowers your hope of good service, don't take it personally, she's just tired of being asked that same question a thousand times a day), they don't take appointments, and you should expect to be there for anywhere up to around two hours depending on when you show up. All that said, it's the only place I'll go, worth the wait, worth the price, worth it. read more

They should offer appointments, you will probably wait over an hour for a hair cut, then sit for 45 minutes for your hair cut. They went from $16 to $25 in my time going here. I've come to stache about 4-5 times. Each time I come out looking fresh and clean, minus for the one time the shave was a bit too close and drew blood. All other patrons I see have amazing haircuts that show off their work. This review has two stars due to the personnel. Each time I show up, they either have their kids running around like a day care, or there is an inappropriate conversation brewing. Most of the time it is racial, condemning Muslims, gays or anyone other than a southern conservative. People have opinions, but there is a difference of being a member in a crowd or a service provider. read more

I have to say I have been searching for a barber to cut my hair the way I actually want it cut... I now no longer have to search for that... Lindsey is now my barber, and I will go to her from here on out... Do they cuss and carry on? Yes. Quality of the hair cuts are good, although the price and wait to receive said haircut are very poor. I came in with my son to get a hair cut with four customers ahead of us and three barbers working. Two hours and 15 minutes later we had to leave and STILL had another customer ahead of me. This may be a different story if it had been very busy, but My husband and I came in a couple months back and he waited for over two hours with only 4-5 customers ahead of him. I thought it may have been an isolated incident and tried again today but it seems that this is just the way they operate. Quality work but if you have the whole day to spare but even with an appointment, a man's haircut shouldn't take over and hour each. Overall very dissatisfied and would not recommend this barber shop. read more
