The newest location of this burgeoning Antigonish company opened in New Glasgow last fall, filling…read morethe gap left by Baked's closure. Located in its quaint space at the south end of Provost, it has a bright colour palette, with school bus yellow leading the chromatic charge to your retinas. Ordering is done at the counter, where you have your choice of a handful each of sweet and savoury waffles, smoothies and salads. On my first time there, my wife and I were grabbing a late lunch, and it being the weekend, I was feeling brunch-y, so I went with their B.E.A.S.T. - Bacon, Egg, Aioli, Spinach and Tomato (and also cheese, but that didn't fit the acronym, I guess). My wife, seeing that they had a gluten-free waffle option (+$2), took the opportunity to get something that she is rarely able to - get a donair. The B.E.A.S.T. was a solid breakfast-ized version of the BLT, with the egg adding some more protein and the lightly sweet and crisp waffle bringing more to the show than your typical bread. Wrapped handily in compostable paper, it was apparent from this and some signs around the waste bins that WBS is making an effort to be as low-impact on the environment as possible. My wife's donair waffle was stuffed with generous layers of Mr. Donair-brand meat, so while the meat itself wasn't all that special, it was cool that the GF waffle allowed my wife to have a donair. As for the waffle itself, it was a bit more crumbly than its full-gluten brethren, but had a nice flavour. On our return visit, we both went with the daily specials - me the breakfast scramble and the bruschetta for my other half. I really enjoyed my breakfast scramble. The mix of lightly sweet ham, layers of richness from the meat, eggs and hollandaise, and pops of heat from the banana peppers made for a delight for my taste buds. Lightly crisp and sweet bits of waffle made sure that not a drop of hollandaise went to waste. The bruschetta waffle was a cool dish. Big flavours of pesto and garlic butter, with some acidic brightness of cherry tomatoes and some heft from the chicken. Topped with melted mozza and feta, this was a definite winner. Waffle Bus Stop is a fun, tasty spot that helps anchor Provost Street and adds a creative angle to the restaurant scene in the county.

However, the service was good and the ambiance was "sandwich shop." The sandwich was a surprise. What they should do is use the waffles as the inventor intended; turn the waffled sides inside to hold more mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, etc.

The house coffee, T52, was very tasty. The shopkeeper introduced it to me as the "special double double," but I'd say it's the usual Korean milk coffee. It was creamy, pleasantly sweet, but not too sweet like the actual double-double. The matcha custard taiyaki was the star of all of these - the outer layer was super crispy (it even had some pieces fall off as the "chips," which I could use to dip the whipped cream and chocolate sauce on the plate). The taiyaki cake itself was just perfect. It was crispy on the outside but super soft and creamy inside, and very fresh and hot. The custard was sweet, comforting and delicious, which was perfectly paired with the outer buttery skin. I don't think anything else could beat this combo as the perfect breakfast. The shop was super clean, well-organized and comfortable. The service was excellent. I love this cafe. 4 stars because it's a bit pricy.

This is the old Thirsty Turtle location, so I was familiar with the spot, but probably saw a Facebook post about the new business. Generally, I rather support small business restaurants, and the menu looked good, so I'm glad I checked it out. Lucy is very friendly. Most of my visits it has been very quiet, with only her working. Hoping/assuming it gets busier as the day goes on. Mind you, I love my tranquil time to sit and have a delicious meal and Sissiboo coffee with a book in tow. Her menu creations are more healthy than average, different than the basic bacon & eggs, but she seems willing to adjust any dish, so if you are someone who likes to keep it simple, I'm sure that's doable. I loved the Jane's Addiction is the best example of a healthy but tasty breakfast (half a toasted Montreal style bagel that she buys from the business on Wyse Rd, topped with avocado, crisp bacon slices, old cheddar with an over easy egg. Served side side of perpetual salad (mix of kale, brussel sprouts, broccoli, julienned apples & beets, shredded carrot, dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds, sliced avocado, topped with crumbled goat cheese, with poppy seed dressing on the side). The Sweet Waffle (gluten friendly waffle with bacon, whipped cream and choice of sauce) will satisfy the sweet tooth, yet is still a reasonable size to avoid the guilt (I tried the blueberry orange sauce) Yum!. Her Breakfast Bowl (spiced sweet potato home fries topped with two scrambled eggs, tomato, mushroom, spinach, chives with cheddar or goat cheese, meat for $3 extra) is delicious as well. The Classic Lucy (choice of meat and her bacon is cooked to perfection for me, two eggs your way, spiced sweet potato home fries, etc) is just as good as the rest. I can't see everything on the online menu but the Naan breakfast had avocado, cheddar, pico de gallo, egg, etc on naan) and was amazing. I will definitely try some lunch items someday here, but breakfast out is my favorite to eat out and I recommend that to anyone. Atmosphere inside is quite basic, wooden tables, long and narrow in layout with some natural light coming in the front, artwork on the walls for sale from local artists which is nice. I've noticed some people will just stop in to get a coffee and baked good to go. No issues with parking. A nice little spot for the folks in Waverley.

It was beer and burger heaven for the evening. My second experience was sampling their sausages on a bun when checking out the Man Show part of the Exhibition Park Christmas Craft Fair. One thing is clear, you don't have to be a man to enjoy the tasty morsels being served up from the NG kitchen. And then this weekend I got to try breakfast Nomad style. I chose to "build my own breakfast' for $4. The way this works is you get an egg and hash browns and add on things at your choosing for extra $. I added some bacon and got the BEST BACON of my life. It was perfectly grilled and made my weekend. The egg was fried egg perfection and there were too many hash browns for me to eat. The hash browns are real local potatoes cooked on the grill and have a charbroiled taste to them. Pro-tip - NG will now be at the Halifax Seaport Market on weekend mornings as long as there isn't a cruise ship in harbour. Extra Pro-tip - I didn't try the breakfast sandwich - but people - it's homemade Belgian waffles with chicken!! One final tip - when your handsome pirate brother has a new baby the way to the new parents hearts is to bring Nomad Gourmet burgers to the hospital for lunch the day after the baby is born. That way both new parents are happily stuffing their faces with burger goodness and you get your brand new niece all to yourself! (at least until the burgers are devoured...)
