This place was really good, has a "retro" vibe that makes you feel like in a movie. Although it took longer than expected to get our food it was amazing and portions are pretty big. Because of COVID the seats are still limited and we had to wait in line quite a bit before going in. Other than that our visit was great! Amazing service and I'll be definitely coming back soon. Would recommend the iced coffee and the cinnamon French toast.

Most recent visit: a sunny Friday around 7:30am in September. I tried the Breakfast Burrito (eggs, bacon, peppers, onion & cheddar in a flour tortilla with salsa and hash browns 8.99) It was quite decent, held together well, looked like a reasonable size but was very filling I found. Very friendly service. I rarely carry cash so don't go here very often, but would go again.

First thing i do while planning a trip is to search the best places to eat in that town. Went to this place on Sunday morning to start our day with amazing breakfast and the place was totally jam packed. Average waiting period was 20-25 minutes. This place is one of the best places to have breakfast in halifax. After grabbing a seat, we ordered for: Lumberjack plate: It had 2 sausage, 2 eggs of your choice, 3 strips of bacon, ham, assorted hash brown and toast. It was a fulfilling breakfast at so much affordable price. Rating: Ambience: 2.5/5 (Just a normal shop) Taste: 5/5 (Mind blowing) Portion size: 5/5 (Good enough and fulfilling for one person) Staff: 4.5/5 (Courteous and polite) Value for money: 5/5 (Absolutely)

Cheap and filling. It's no wonder every time I drive by on Sundays this place is always full. I had the pleasure to visit this restaurant this past Sunday. Small restaurant packed full of people. There were maybe 3 groups in front of us in line. Waited for about 20 minutes before we sat down. Both me and my friend ordered "Lumberjack". I also ordered a milkshake, a children's plate for my 1.5 yr old, and a pancake to share. I love the energy of this place. Most tables are filled with 30yr olds and under. Needless to say we were full with a takeout box in hand when we walked out.

If you haven't figured out my dining MO by now, let me fill in the blanks for you: I'm a fan of comfort food done well and the places that serve it. I appreciate finer dining, but let's face it, a solid mom and pop diner is more accessible and more wallet friendly, and you don't have to worry about putting on any fronts when going there. The Ardmore is through and through one of these places, with their well worn vinyl cushion booths, wonky ceiling fans and light shades that look like they are from someone's grandparent's house, and may very well be. To complete the feel, there are old timey photos on the walls and a condiment caddy with the usual diner-style tall container of sugar and red squeeze bottle of ketchup. Not so typical was the bottle of Roland brand sriracha, which I had never heard of due to the dominance of the green-capped Huy Fong rooster sauce, and suspected it was a cheaper version. Like any popular diner, there's a mix of all sorts of people here, from representatives of Halifax's omnipresent student population, to professorial (yeah, that's a word) looking types and regular Joes and Janes, all enjoying good, inexpensive eats. I like to think that a good diner is like a tiny United Nations, except more gets done. It's a Thursday morning so the restaurant, while mostly full, isn't crazy busy as a weekend day, likely having to do with fewer hungover students. My girlfriend and I are quickly seen to and I head straight for the breakfast menu. It's a full page of breakfast deliciousness that is all served all day, and the prices are quite reasonable. I'm hungry, but not hungry enough for my usual big breakfast type of order so I go for the eggs Benedict with ham, because nothing says 'light breakfast' like an egg yolk and butter sauce. It doesn't take long for our food to arrive, and when I see my plate, I'm relieved that my girlfriend's breakfast comes with toast, as there's no way that the pile of hashbrowns that I got would suffice in delivering that pool of rich, yellow awesome (something I wish people called me) to my mouth. The Hollandaise is a little bit thin, but it's fantastic - rich and smooth from the egg yolks and butter it is mainly comprised of, there's also a slight lemon tang that helps keep it from being completely overwhelming. I even ordered my eggs cooked soft so that there was even more yolk goodness to go around. While it might seem lost in all of the Hollandaise and egg, the ham manages to make itself known, thanks to the sheer volume of it, as there is a few soft folds of it, not just one lonesome slice below the egg, as with eggs Benny as many lesser restaurants. The hashbrowns are A-OK, but I paid little heed to them as I was just using them to sop up the Hollandaise. The Ardmore is a Halifax dining icon and for good reason, with simple but delicious diner food at really good prices (breakfast for two was just over $20 with tax). One caveat though is that they are cash only and there is no ATM inside. Seems a little odd in this day and age, but hey, it obviously isn't stopping the hordes of Ardmore fans.

Oh yes, the Ardmore veggie burger - smothered in onions and ketchup, perhaps a cheese slice melted on top (while retaining its square shape), mustard, tomatoes and like a cherry atop a sundae, crowned with a pickle. The only thing I have consumed at the Ardmore that's worth mentioning is the veggie burger. Throw in a side of sweet potato fries or some seriously greasy onion rings and you've got yourself the only meal you'll need for 24 hours. It's cheap and easy food, perhaps fast to arrive, on occasion languorously slow. Sometimes the cooks make a mistake and when the waitress brings the food back to the kitchen you can hear them cursing and slamming about, but that's the nature of this beast. It's $3.99 for the burger and an additional $2 for the fries. If you're feeling saucy, chuck in a glass bottle of coke and you've got yourself a dream come true. REMEMBER to ask for the works on your burger, or else you may just end up with ketchup, and where's the fun in that?

Normally all these seats are full by young and old alike.

Sadly a few months ago Admire stopped offering the breakfast special. Now the same 2 eggs, meat, toast, deep-fried-potato-squares and coffee plus tax will be about $10 Plus CASH only no credit cards

Stopped here for a lazy breakfast on a Tuesday. Great place for a filling but cheap breakfast any time of day. No waffles on the menu but the savoury choices are plenty. Had eggs, hash browns and meat which were very nicely prepared and for under $10 couldn't ask for much more. Service is quick and frequent. The diner style provides a local intimate atmosphere. Cash only is a little annoying but there are ATMs nearby.

This place is golden. Always busy with staff who don't miss a beat and work their assess off. Food is fast, delicious af, and priced well. I've only eaten off the breakfast menu but it's all great. *cash only

At the Ardmore Tea Room, it's all about the breakfast. Sure, they have lunch and dinner menus, and plenty of people must eat those meals there. But their weekend breakfasts are the restaurant's real claim to fame, and anyone who's ever woken up on a Sunday morning feeling a little under the weather knows that there's no cure like the homefries and sausages at the Ardmore Tea Room. It's just a teensy little place, so there's often a bit of a lineup on weekend mornings. There's little to no ceremony at this homestyle diner - just cram yourself into the first available booth, quickly give your busy waitress your order and rest your pounding head on your hands until the plate hits the table. And make sure you bring cash. The Ardmore is old-school and they don't take debit, so save yourself the embarrassment of having to sponge off your cash-carrying friends by jamming a $10 into your other pocket when you're out having a good time on Saturday night.

Basic but well done food. It's so popular you may have to wait in line to get seated. Doesn't matter the time of day.

I don't have an office space, so I rely a lot on cafe's and library's to get me out of the apartment. Tart & Soul is going to be an amazing little get away with huge, bright windows, plenty of tables to work at, and a patio space for when it's nice out. I arrived in the late morning and treated myself to one of their scrumptious scones. Really, they had me at cheese and green onion, but as soon as I took that first bite I knew I was going to be coming back. Their scones are crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, with the perfect flavour balance for my carb-loving self. Next up on my "must eat" list? Cinammon buns...but I think I'm going to have to get out of the apartment earlier for those, because they seem to go fast! They have wifi, which I've come to expect at any coffee shop I go to now, and the password is cross stitched into an adorable sign near the cash register. Actually, I love all of the decor. It's cute, a bit kitchy and shows a lot of personality from the owners. There were a boquet of fresh flowers scenting the bench that I sat at, though I could hardly smell them over the smell of chocolate chip cookies baking in the back. Mmmmm. Oh, they brew Anchor Coffee for those interested. I love when local businesses support other local businesses, so that definitely pleased me! And it was delicious too. I'll definitely be back! I expect I will be working there a lot once fall term starts at Dal.

If you like natural light, there is plenty of it in this cafe! I had a bialy for breakfast when I was in and it was such a perfect breakfast that I think everyone should try it. They had both vegetarian and omnivore options available. The baked goods all looked wonderful and tempting as well. I believe street parking is all that's available, but it's well worth it! This is a little hidden gem.

This is the old Thirsty Turtle location, so I was familiar with the spot, but probably saw a Facebook post about the new business. Generally, I rather support small business restaurants, and the menu looked good, so I'm glad I checked it out. Lucy is very friendly. Most of my visits it has been very quiet, with only her working. Hoping/assuming it gets busier as the day goes on. Mind you, I love my tranquil time to sit and have a delicious meal and Sissiboo coffee with a book in tow. Her menu creations are more healthy than average, different than the basic bacon & eggs, but she seems willing to adjust any dish, so if you are someone who likes to keep it simple, I'm sure that's doable. I loved the Jane's Addiction is the best example of a healthy but tasty breakfast (half a toasted Montreal style bagel that she buys from the business on Wyse Rd, topped with avocado, crisp bacon slices, old cheddar with an over easy egg. Served side side of perpetual salad (mix of kale, brussel sprouts, broccoli, julienned apples & beets, shredded carrot, dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds, sliced avocado, topped with crumbled goat cheese, with poppy seed dressing on the side). The Sweet Waffle (gluten friendly waffle with bacon, whipped cream and choice of sauce) will satisfy the sweet tooth, yet is still a reasonable size to avoid the guilt (I tried the blueberry orange sauce) Yum!. Her Breakfast Bowl (spiced sweet potato home fries topped with two scrambled eggs, tomato, mushroom, spinach, chives with cheddar or goat cheese, meat for $3 extra) is delicious as well. The Classic Lucy (choice of meat and her bacon is cooked to perfection for me, two eggs your way, spiced sweet potato home fries, etc) is just as good as the rest. I can't see everything on the online menu but the Naan breakfast had avocado, cheddar, pico de gallo, egg, etc on naan) and was amazing. I will definitely try some lunch items someday here, but breakfast out is my favorite to eat out and I recommend that to anyone. Atmosphere inside is quite basic, wooden tables, long and narrow in layout with some natural light coming in the front, artwork on the walls for sale from local artists which is nice. I've noticed some people will just stop in to get a coffee and baked good to go. No issues with parking. A nice little spot for the folks in Waverley.
