I stopped in to grab a Taiyaki as a snack. I got the Single Taiyaki with Matcha custard ($4.25). I was pleasantly surprised to see that it also came with a small container of whipped cream! Overall, the Taiyaki was good, but the filling was not as creamy as I would have liked. I would have liked a higher dairy content to make it milkier/creamier. The pastry was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Note that the pastry is just fish shaped, there is no actual fish in, lol. Service was friendly. They make them fresh when you order them. Worth a try if you like Taiyaki. Street parking only.

Bourgeois (2 taiyaki with fruit) with regular batter, one filled with matcha custard, the other with sweet red bean. Delicious!

Great food, prompt and friendly service, light and open environment. Why are you reading this instead of heading there now? This place is great! I'm very sorry I live 13 hours away and visited it as a tourist. If I loved within a 2-hr drive, I'd be there regularly. Our hotel was across the street, which was perfect! The crisp exterior of the waffle, with its interior chewiness and delightful fillings -- well, what could match that?

    Latte!

So impressed. My first time eating this and I'm glad we tried it here!! Grabbed the duo and filled it with a vanilla custard and the hazelnut chocolate. It was made fresh to order and was delicious! The custard was so filled inside and was very tasty. The hazelnut was delicious but wish they out more at the top of the fish. Took about two big bits until we got a taste of it. Not the worst given that the fish itself was really good. Also got the matcha and mango twist "jaw dropper" now this was finger licking good. We finished it all in a matter of minutes. The cereal is just garnish, doesn't taste like anything. Definitely stop by and try these treats. They have some outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. Takes a few minutes to make, but well worth it as its fresh!

Yummm I came here with my friends and ordered 2 sweet jaw droppers mango ice cream, one filled with chocolate and the other filled with red bean. The overall taste was good I liked both but I wasn't crazy about the mango ice cream despite being so excited to try it. Also we order the spinach and feta cheese and it was awesooooooooooome, and delicious. If I came back I would definitely go for the savory one.

Great staff and service. Love the interior design and the decoration. We tried the Naked Duo and the Jaw Dropper with ice cream. The Jaw Dropper was not as good as thought. It's too crispy and hard to bite, and so it's not easy to eat. I recommend the Naked Duo, and I will definitely come again for this.

As soon as I heard about this place I was stoked. Taiyaki is a type of Japanese waffle and this cafe has vegan options! Let's go over that first: the crunchy batter is vegan and they also have a vegan banana batter as well. Vegans can have the red bean or blueberry filling and they also had a maple cinnamon seeds dessert. Don't worry if you can't remember this because it's all marked on the menu. They also have soy and almond milk for drinks. The cafe itself is adorable. I love all the fake plants throughout. The modern feel is comfortable and light. The staff was also very friendly and kind and very helpful with explaining what is vegan. The food presentation is perfect. Those little fish shapes waffles make me feel like a happy child. And the blueberries and seeds make the plate look beautiful. The prices are also pretty affordable. I will definitely be back.

Nice little surprise we stumbled into downtown, custard-filled taiyaki (fish-shaped waffles) were really good! Kids loved the mango ice-cream with stuffed cones too.

Taiyaki waffles filling with green tea and red bean flavors, both taste good. Nice decoration and clean place as well.

bacon & egg and cheese omelette savoury breakfast waffles?

I'll give here a 3.5 based on my most recent visit on a sunny, cold Saturday in February. I was the only customer in the place at about 10am. I wanted a hot breakfast and couldn't decide between the bacon & egg, or cheese & egg small fish waffles they have on the savoury menu for $5.40 each? I asked how big they are because I didn't want to over-stuff myself. The server made it seem like each was about the size of the palm of your hand, and I'd say they are a bit smaller than that, so glad I ordered both. The bacon & egg one was very good, although bacon a bit underdone it seemed. Once you pour maple syrup on it, the combination of sweet & savoury is very good. The cheese one didn't seem to have any cheese in it that I could tell? But I didn't mention anything, and it still tasted good. They come with a crunchy fish waffle as well, which has the texture and taste of a tough danish or croissant. Small bit of salad greens on the side. Also came with a small bowl of sweet chili sauce? I didn't use this as it didn't really make sense to me with the meal. Decent latte. I will be back to try other stuff here for sure.

If you haven't been here yet, you need to stop in. Stop in with someone who doesn't know what taiyaki is, someone who does. Family, friends, couples, anyone. It is one hundred percent worth it. Going in, I knew what taiyaki was from what I know of Japanese culture. But I've never had it before, and believe me this; Cafe Taiyaki 52 knows what they're doing. I've lived in Halifax for around a week and a half, and me and my girlfriend have stopped in at least five times. Every time we stop in, we're greeted by the amazing and kind staff, and warm atmosphere. We've gone in at all different times throughout the day, and whether it be 11:00 AM, or 9:00 PM, it's incredible. Did I mention the staff are insanely kind? Because they are! As it's a small little cafe, it's nice to sit down and enjoy anything from their menu, and they'll chat with you if you want to chat, or they'll answer any questions you have about anything. Regarding the food menu; it's currently still changing as they've only been open for a short period of time, and that's a great thing. But everything on there?! Incredible. Delicious. Delectable. We've tried every playing of Taiyaki, and every filling (including the crunch and regular version of most of them.) The great thing is, no matter what time you go in or what you feel like eating, they have something for it! They have savoury taiyaki (great for a meal!), sweet taiyaki, ice cream, and so much more. And you can choose if you want crunchy or regular to adjust the sweetness and flavours even further, or to try something new! Believe me; changing the batter changes the whole thing. Some places it'll just make the batter taste different, but here, everything tastes different; and it's still all incredible! But my gosh, I still have to sit there every time and think about what filling to order and plating style! It's just all amazing. The fruit that they serve with the taiyaki, the taiyaki itself, the whipped cream (made there!), the mango ice cream (also made there! Haven't tried the matcha as I'm not a huge matcha fan, but I've seen people order it and they seemed to love it.), the fillings... everything is so delicious on the menu. Not only that, but they bring you a small dish of a homemade rice cracker rings, which are also amazing! Regarding the drinks; I personally am not a huge fan of coffee or teas, so I cannot give my opinion of them. However, they have such a huge selection and the smells are fantastic. You can go up to the register and smell every single loose tea flavour (yes, I smelled them all, even though I have allergies to strong smells-- totally worth it.), and I've seen lots of people go up and order a tea after smelling them. Plus, I've heard tons of compliments on the tea and coffee, including from my girlfriend who had a cappuccino here and loved it. I've tried the hot chocolate with her, and it was incredible. The froth (or foam) was delicious, and the hot chocolate itself was supreme. I can happily say I've never had a more delicious hot chocolate anywhere. And if you're not going in for a hot drink or a coffee? They have lemon water for free, as well, smoothiiiies! I've tried the strawberry one, and it tasted very fresh and it had a perfect thickness. Will be trying the mango one soon! Did I forget to mention? You get two taiyaki from the make your own page (and can get more). Perfect for sharing or trying multiple flavours at once! TL;DR? Go give it a try. Try everything and anything from the menu, and I guarantee you, you won't be disappointed. The staff are incredible, the food is incredible, the drinks are incredible, and it's all affordable for what it is and how good it is! ...fwew! 40 minute review. First time writing one, and I am so glad I wrote it for this amazing cafe. Been recommending to family every time I talk to them!

If you're new to the city or have just emerged from being frozen in ice ala Encino Man, let me…read morepile on the bandwagon and tell you this: Cafe Good Luck is really, really good. It seemed a fitting location to caffeinate and get a bite before closing on our first house, which officially mades us Dartmouthians! Having just moved back to Nova Scotia within the past couple years, I'd only been to their smaller, pre-renos location once. Since then, they've blessedly expanded into a neighbouring unit, giving a lot more seating and openness, as they were becoming victims of their own success in the small, original space. I'm a lover of all things breakfast, so I snagged one of their breakfast sandwiches, while my wife stuck to the baked goods and went with one of their lovely blueberry scones. Two medium roast drip coffees, black, completed our refueling. Right out of the gate, the scone was AMAZING! The exterior was lightly crisp, but the interior was moist and soft (sorry, Larry David) - cooked to absolute perfection. There must have been a light coating of sugar to get it so crispy, so I don't know how regular scone batter does that on its own! Topped with a blueberry icing, blue sprinkles and edible flowers, it was a beauty! With my appetite whetted, I demolished my delicious breakfast sandwich when it arrived. The egg was of the scrambled sort, and light and fluffy, complemented by the thick and crisp bacon. A tomato-based sauce, be it jam or a house-made ketchup added a mix of sweetness and acidity, and it was helluva breakfast sandwich. After a year and a half in our home and many returns visits for coffee, delicious baked goods, and one coffee tasting event, we came by much more recently for a weekend lunch. CGL is typically very busy on the weekend, but rainy weather made tables slightly more available. I didn't come here with proper food in mind, but seeing the lemongrass chicken banh mi on the menu quickly changed my mind and appetite. This sandwich had a lot (/everything) going for it - tender, flavourful chunks of moist chicken, big and bright flavours from the crisp daikon and carrot slaw, and cucumber and cilantro for yet more crunch and flavour. Not to be forgotten was the perfect French bread, with its shatteringly crisp exterior and a pleasantly dense and pliable crumb. Cafe Good Luck is easily the best cafe in downtown Dartmouth, with an assortment of wildly good coffees that they roast, top notch baked goods, and a small but mighty mix of hot foods when you need something more substantial than a pastry (but still get that pastry!).

The coffee is smooth - from Have Fun coffee roasters in Burnside Industrial Park. Tried the eggie - what a revelation! Kind of a mix of a croissant with an egg, cream cheese and onions. Super fresh and tasty. The breakfast sandwich was amazing - huge slab of pork as an option! Lots of seating - tables and countertop. As standard utensils they also have chopsticks!!! Apparently gets extremely busy on weekend mornings - glad I got here right at opening! No wifi, parking is on the street.

This is the old Thirsty Turtle location, so I was familiar with the spot, but probably saw a Facebook post about the new business. Generally, I rather support small business restaurants, and the menu looked good, so I'm glad I checked it out. Lucy is very friendly. Most of my visits it has been very quiet, with only her working. Hoping/assuming it gets busier as the day goes on. Mind you, I love my tranquil time to sit and have a delicious meal and Sissiboo coffee with a book in tow. Her menu creations are more healthy than average, different than the basic bacon & eggs, but she seems willing to adjust any dish, so if you are someone who likes to keep it simple, I'm sure that's doable. I loved the Jane's Addiction is the best example of a healthy but tasty breakfast (half a toasted Montreal style bagel that she buys from the business on Wyse Rd, topped with avocado, crisp bacon slices, old cheddar with an over easy egg. Served side side of perpetual salad (mix of kale, brussel sprouts, broccoli, julienned apples & beets, shredded carrot, dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds, sliced avocado, topped with crumbled goat cheese, with poppy seed dressing on the side). The Sweet Waffle (gluten friendly waffle with bacon, whipped cream and choice of sauce) will satisfy the sweet tooth, yet is still a reasonable size to avoid the guilt (I tried the blueberry orange sauce) Yum!. Her Breakfast Bowl (spiced sweet potato home fries topped with two scrambled eggs, tomato, mushroom, spinach, chives with cheddar or goat cheese, meat for $3 extra) is delicious as well. The Classic Lucy (choice of meat and her bacon is cooked to perfection for me, two eggs your way, spiced sweet potato home fries, etc) is just as good as the rest. I can't see everything on the online menu but the Naan breakfast had avocado, cheddar, pico de gallo, egg, etc on naan) and was amazing. I will definitely try some lunch items someday here, but breakfast out is my favorite to eat out and I recommend that to anyone. Atmosphere inside is quite basic, wooden tables, long and narrow in layout with some natural light coming in the front, artwork on the walls for sale from local artists which is nice. I've noticed some people will just stop in to get a coffee and baked good to go. No issues with parking. A nice little spot for the folks in Waverley.

Probably under the local radar based on the outdated stereotypes about their location, Alteregos is a equal parts a local hotspot for in-the-know North Enders, and a first impression for visitors staying in the connected hostel.
