Busy little shop. Picked up some coffee and a bagel my first morning in Albany. The shop is busy. Staff - eh. Not so kind. Probably with being busy. When my bagel was ready they never called my number. I literally heard and observed them call every other customer. It was odd. I was just waiting at the counter and the gentleman never said my number or looked my direction. I just guessed and went to check the number on the bag after a few minutes. I love the Stacks on Lark space and the Stacks on Broadway is also just as nice! The space is definitely larger and great for doing work and studying! It definitely gets busier than the one on Lark so I'd recommend getting a seat earlier if you're planning on doing work there. It also does get a little cold with the door opening in the winter as well. But overall it's a really nice and open space, the Stacks coffees and specialty seasonal drinks are also as great as always. Staff is excellent. However $8.50 for an egg and cheese...that's mediocre food for a luxury price absolutely not worth it. I used to get an Egg and cheese in the city for half the price. Ambiance is ok, bit of a dirty rustic vibe kinda like it's been sitting for years then one day decided to wipe off the dust that was left for so long and then put polyurethane on everything so easier to clean off but it's not dirty inside it's pretty. This is the only coffee shop in Albany where people can sit and have a drink peacefully. I experienced good service and a great attitude from the barista who was helpful and efficient even while the shop was pretty busy. It had good acidity and a red berry flavor that was lighter roast than I expected based in the tasting notes. Milk texture was decent. Staff was nice and the store was comfortable. I used to really like it here but lately it's really gone downhill. The lattes were bomb but now when I go it's always served luke warm. Really only pleasant to drink for a few minutes before it's basically room temperature. My last few visits ended in pouring my latte over ice to at least make it decent to keep drinking. The food is also trying a bit hard. Since covid "ended" they have a whole slew of breakfast items. Maybe a bit to much because the last 2 ham and cheese croissants were super cold in the middle. Like a not fully cooked hot pocket. Not pleasant to eat. Sure this place is popular and has decent coffee but if you get there and it's packed trust me the juice is not worth the squeeze. read more

Stacks is great! Super cool and friendly chickies working in here and they'll answer any questions you have about any of their items. Nice vibe inside and a great location for people watching downtown. Prices are completely fair and the quality of drinks prepared is top shelf. They know what they're doing here. My latte had some nice art as well, though next time I'll ask them to steam the milk longer for an even hotter product. Their service trays with included glass of water is indeed a classy touch. WiFi is strong and free here, just like 'merica! I'd revisit this Stacks location anytime I had my full on coffee jones. read more

The sausage egg and cheese bagels and iced vanilla lattes were delicious! The ambience is great, full of bustle, and aesthetic. The only reason I am not giving a 5 is because of how a staff member handled a situation. We had ordered 2 lattes and I think there were mix ups with people in front of us (we think they took wrong drinks), so we ended up not getting one. The staff member at the register was awesome and put in for another to be made, they were very polite. But then person making the drinks made a snarky comment about how they made a bunch and pushed them out. They could have easily said nothing or just said they'd make another. I also work in customer service so I understand when things get busy it can be stressful but to make a comment insinuating it was our fault is not professional. We were polite when informing the person on the register, so no snarky comment was needed. read more

Meet the new Stacks. Not quite like the old Stacks. I love the layout of the new place, and I love, love, love all the natural light. I'm also thrilled that the espresso machine is positioned in such a way that customers can see their shots being pulled. Much like at the original location, this shop brews a house espresso blend and something from a guest roaster. On my last visit I had a shot of a single origin Ethiopian coffee. Surely, in time, this location will rise to five stars. But when opening a new shop, you need to bring on new people, and those new people take time to master the craft. Espresso mastery makes a five star coffee shop. And this location has all the tools required to get there. That said, even in its current state, this is one of the top few coffee shops in the region. So if Broadway is more convenient for you than Lark Street, you now have no excuse to drink crappy coffee or lousy lattes. Better than the chains. Better than most independents. Stacks Espresso is the legit real deal. I'm looking forward to giving them that fifth star very soon. read more

This is my favorite coffee shop in the Capital Region. Their coffee roast flavor is bold, rich, and really smooth. It's one of the few coffees that I can drink and enjoy without milk or sugar. I'm not a coffee connoisseur, but I know the other place that I can do the same (i.e. coffee straight up) is in Portland, OR. The ambiance of Stacks in downtown Albany is laid back and relaxing. It's definitely a spot I can enjoy some good coffee while reading a book or spending a late morning with my spouse. A place with good ambiance, great coffee, and good wifi makes this a haven for any avid reader, aspiring writer, or person that enjoys plain old good company. read more

Went in for Coffee University! Spent an hour listening to Dan talk about types of coffee, tasting notes per region, not per roast, and tasting 5 different methods for brewing. This place should be the standard of what a coffee place should be. Great ambience and food/drinks. I usually order the Alice which is eggs, cheese on plain bagel and it's delicious. I get it with a latte. I like how they hired professional, kind, friendly and knowledgeable staff. I remember coming in on a rainy day and the ambiance was great! the soft jazz café music playing in the background was so calming and serene. I hope this place stays as is since Albany doesn't have many coffee shops and the only one self proclaimed coffee shop(Professor Java's) has stale unfresh food and staff who everyone complained about were rude. This Stacks is much needed. I used to go to the one in Lark street when I visited Albany but it was cramped and too many dogs were roaming about. This place on Albany-Shaker is stratefically placed and I hope they continue to have a lot of business. These people who work here are artisans, which means they know what they're doing. read more
