Iron Coffee is a tiny café just a block from the pond at Washington Park. When I visited, there were only a couple of other customers, and the space felt cozy. There's no indoor seating, but in warmer months, a few tables are set up on the sidewalk. Service is fast, . The menu is small but covers all the classics, and every drink I've tried has been delicious. I love iced drinks on a warm day, but I'll have to come back for a hot coffee soon. Look at how cute this little cup is! I've noticed Iron Coffee for a while now but didn't have the time to stop by until recently. I generally like to study at my coffee shops, but unfortunately there's not much seating here. BUT you get a 10% discount if you're a healthcare worker, so that kind of makes up for it! I got a latte, and there were either floral or slightly burnt notes in it--to be honest I'm not the biggest coffee drinker so I can't tell the difference. But it was cheaper than the place I normally go to! So, if you're looking to support small business owners and want to grab coffee on the go, would definitely recommend. read more

I would love to see a little bit more for food, but given that this i is a small place, there may not be a lot of options. Seating here is just what's available on the sidewalk. What's in a name? Iron coffee. It's an appropriate name, because the drip coffee here is strong and dark! I know coffee. I used to have my own coffee shop. They're not fooling around. It's a tad gritty and slightly bitter, but that might be perfect for the students at the College of St. Rose. The small shop is basically located at the edge of their campus. If I needed to stay awake between term papers or exams, I'm pretty sure Iron Coffee would do the job. The drip coffee is only $2 for a small cup and it's kept hot in thermoses. What impressed me was the barista poured me an initial cup and then spilled it out before offering it to me. He said he had some more freshly made coffee, so he poured me a new cup from the fresher batch. Quality control is a good thing. He didn't know I was going to write this Yelp review. I asked for some soy milk. They have almond milk, too. So on trend. Even with the added soy, the roast is quite dark. The business model is simple. There's no tables. Just a counter to lean on. Low overhead. There are plenty of lattes, espressos and baked goods to chose from at Iron Coffee. For this visit, I just wanted to stick with the basics. It's iron, alright. read more

This small coffee shop is super trendy. One stool but no tables at which to sit which is ok. The barista was chatty and made my chai perfectly. They have neat agave straws--totally biodegradable but won't melt in your drink, which is a nice touch. Haven't found a more sorry coffee shop in a while, which breaks a nice streak of great experiences. When we walked in I could see the beans for espresso were too dark to be good, so we ordered cold brew. It was gross Sumatran coffee...the barista made some comment like they were trying to go through the beans they had. tasted even worse than I expected when. Not saying it was brewed poorly; it's just mediocre beans, and not a good choice for cold brew. As you can see in some Yelp pictures, the list price was $3. We were offered two sizes and we asked for the smaller one. He charged us $4.59. When I asked why so much more than on the menu board, which is still there, he said "I don't know why we still have those prices up there. That was for a 12 ounce which we don't offer any more." And, "I'm not in charge of the menu board". He was a little apologetic, but also kind of dismissive. Stick with Stacks Espresso Bar; we had a much better experience there. read more

The only place that makes a good latte in albany I swear. Its not too milky, the beans are always freshly roasted, and the kicker is it's the cheapest too. The london fog is awesome too. Honestly kinda love that they don't serve food or have seating too. Get in, get coffee, LEAVE. read more

Spotted this coffee shop by chance and had it take a look! Iron Coffee is located right on Madison and just opened only a month ago. The place is subtle and unassuming from the outside; however, once you step inside, the warm wood ambiance is quite inviting. In terms of coffee, there is good selection, and all are at a good price (ie: cold brew only $3). Students and healthcare workers even get 10% off. For the individuals looking for a place to study, unfortunately there is no seating indoors. There are a couple table outdoors, so be prepared to brave the winter these next few months if you do intend to take a seat. I definitely intend to come back for another coffee run due to Iron Coffee's central location, earthy flavors, and quite reasonable prices. I'm so happy to have stumbled upon this very stylish little new coffee shop, an offshoot of an established and popular (five stars on Yelp!) shop in Hoosick Falls. It's the sort of place that you see everywhere in major cities but we didn't have in Albany: it's tiny, it's nicely designed, and the coffee is very good. There's no room to sit down inside, but they've provided a couple of sidewalk tables. They're apparently currently serving some breakfast sandwiches before noon and plan to start offering some pastries, but the focus is on the coffee. The selection is fairly small and basic: a few classic espresso drinks, a chai latte, and one or two specialty items. My cappuccino was delicious -- strong and smooth -- and the barista was very nice (and clearly knew what he was doing). I'm so glad to have a new option for very good espresso in Albany, especially when it's come wrapped in such an attractive and professional package. read more

A Hoosick Falls favorite has opened the cutest little storefront right on Upper Madison Ave. and the neighborhood is better for it! This is coffee for people who enjoy the taste of coffee; it's strong and it's delicious. Even their lattes and cappuccinos, which can get much too diluted and sweet other places, have a strong espresso kick. Alternative milk options are readily available, and they even make a 16oz cappuccino, which for some reason is a rarity. The inside is just big enough for the counter and some shelving so don't expect to sit and sip (unless it's warm enough for one of the couple outside tables), but it makes for the perfect place to swing through and grab a cup of truly wonderful coffee on your way to work or elsewhere. The guys working there are always super friendly, and I really enjoy their music selections for the ambiance. Really happy to have a coffee shop in this part of Albany, I hope they stick around for a long time! read more

I will seek this place out in particular. Walk in coffee shop with a great team of baristas who are all very relatable and cool (not your odd hipster nose piercing kind of baristas. They just rock) the coffee is always 11/10 and the merch is top notch. When i go in here i feel like im supporting a "small yet about to blow up in popularity " coffee shop. Also Madison ave is relatively safe and the area of the coffee shop here is away from the low class scumbag antics you usually see if you go down Central Ave. the aesthetic of the shop is also great.
