Iron Coffee is a small coffee shop about a block from the pond at Washington Park. When I say small, I mean small. When I arrived today, there were two other customers in the shop and it was cramped. There is no indoor seating, but in the warmer months there are a few tables set up on the sidewalk outside the shop. Service is quick and the baristas are friendly. Their menu isn't huge, but they have all the classics and every drink I've tried has been delicious. I am a sucker for an iced drink on a warm day, but I will have to get back here for one of their hot drinks at some point. Very happy to have this coffee shop in the neighborhood.

Look at how cute this little cup is! I've noticed Iron Coffee for a while now but didn't have the time to stop by until recently. I generally like to study at my coffee shops, but unfortunately there's not much seating here. BUT you get a 10% discount if you're a healthcare worker, so that kind of makes up for it! I got a latte, and there were either floral or slightly burnt notes in it--to be honest I'm not the biggest coffee drinker so I can't tell the difference. But it was cheaper than the place I normally go to! So, if you're looking to support small business owners and want to grab coffee on the go, would definitely recommend.

    Enjoying the café's sidewalk seating.

This spot is nearly a coffee-only cafe with some limited pastries/snacks. I very much appreciate the craftsmanship put into its espresso drinks. I would love to see a little bit more for food, but given that this i is a small place, there may not be a lot of options. Seating here is just what's available on the sidewalk. But on a nice day, it's a great place to sit for a bit - to read, to work, to watch. Definitely a place to check out and add to your routine.

What's in a name? Iron coffee. It's an appropriate name, because the drip coffee here is strong and dark! I know coffee. I used to have my own coffee shop. They're not fooling around. It's a tad gritty and slightly bitter, but that might be perfect for the students at the College of St. Rose. The small shop is basically located at the edge of their campus. If I needed to stay awake between term papers or exams, I'm pretty sure Iron Coffee would do the job. The drip coffee is only $2 for a small cup and it's kept hot in thermoses. What impressed me was the barista poured me an initial cup and then spilled it out before offering it to me. He said he had some more freshly made coffee, so he poured me a new cup from the fresher batch. Quality control is a good thing. He didn't know I was going to write this Yelp review. I asked for some soy milk. They have almond milk, too. So on trend. Even with the added soy, the roast is quite dark. The business model is simple. There's no tables. Just a counter to lean on. Low overhead. There are plenty of lattes, espressos and baked goods to chose from at Iron Coffee. For this visit, I just wanted to stick with the basics. It's iron, alright.

    Beautiful latte!

Cute little shop with a counter only inside and 2 small tables outside. Enjoyed a 10 oz latte with oat milk for $4.59 that was strong, a little bitter but tasty. Barista was pleasant and efficient but didn't make eye contact (which would have earned this review 5 stars).

This small coffee shop is super trendy. One stool but no tables at which to sit which is ok. The barista was chatty and made my chai perfectly. They have neat agave straws--totally biodegradable but won't melt in your drink, which is a nice touch. Small menu and no food offered but they do have branded merch so support small business!

Delicious cappuccino and Americano. Great service. Cute shop. Bear a playground if you want to take your kids somewhere after.

The staff were professional, pleasant, and coffee/tea focused! My wife enjoyed a black tea chai latte and I loved the reserve pour over coffee experience! I order pour over pretty much every time it's available at a coffee shop. Jacob Alejandro's pour over service is pretty much ceremonial! They serve it on a tray. The tray has the "pitcher", a glass for service, and a glass of palate cleansing jade tea in the middle. (I did have to ask what the jade tea was) The palate cleanse was the perfect start. The Costa Rican coffee was heavenly, one of those drinking experiences where even my amateur palate was engaged. It was truly nice to sit for a while and enjoy a great cup of coffee at Jacob Alejandro! Yes, they would fit in a larger city but smaller cities deserve great coffee also!

Could they really be open on Easter Sunday? It seemed too good to be true. A great cup of caffeine was just what I needed at that very moment. So my friend and I crossed Madison Avenue and peeked into the tinted windows. Not only were they open, but the place was bustling. The inside of Jacob Alejandro is elegant and beautifully decorated. Furniture, plants, music and wall art are arranged to set moods. It feels more like a club than a coffee house. The baristas are super friendly, helpful and patient. As I tried to make up my mind on what to order, they offered suggestions. I wound up with matcha. I think my friend had some kind of latte. I remember both beverages were delicious. They were made to be savored slowly. We took in our surroundings and it was very relaxing. We'll visit again. Thanks Jacob Alejandro for a nice experience.

Among the more recent arrivals is Java Cafe on Madison Ave. It offers a nice variety of coffees, teas, other beverages and baked goods, all in a relaxing setting. What's more, they tell me that small dogs are welcome. I stopped in recently after taking a stroll in the park with my West Highland Terrier. I was surprised when they told me that my little dog could come in, too. I ordered the most wonderful hot chai latte with coconut milk and a dash of cinnamon. Since I was staying, it was served up in a stoneware cup with saucer. I also ordered a potato borek, which they explained was a small Turkish-style mashed potato pie. It was good. My friend ordered a delicious large house coffee with cream. The cafe is small but inviting with exposed brick walls. There's nice furniture and interesting wall art, including a banjo hung from one wall. But my favorite is the amoeba-shaped full length mirror with the words,"You look amazing," painted above it. How's that for giving customers encouragement? My little dog stood under our table and smiled. She was well behaved. There were several other customers but most of them looked lost- in -concentration over their laptops. It was a delicious and very calming experience for us after a nice walk in the park. Thanks, Java Cafe.

The breakfasts and coffee are solid. The staff is helpful and courteous. I showed up for breakfast recently. I ordered the Chorizo. I took the meal upstairs where there's additional seating. I ate it while seated inside the picture window, which is a good place to the activity along Lark St. The eatery is as eclectic as ever. There are signs and artwork on the walls from different eras that don't go together. The place is old and perhaps a bit musty. Still this place had so much history with the area and its mismatched decor is a part of its charm. Change may be good. But in the case of the Daily Grind, I'm happy to still be able to get a delicious meal at a reasonable price from a nice staff after all of these years. Comfort food at its best.
