The Stadium Theatre is a gem in northern Rhode Island. There's not a bad seat in the house, they have free parking across the street, the concessions and drinks are excellent and moderately priced, the ushers are friendly and helpful, and the quality of shows is great too. We were at the Stadium last night to see the musical Anastasia. Our seats cost $45 and we were 6 rows from the stage. You really can't beat that! This theatre has excellent sight lines and we could see everything on stage very clearly. The acting and singing of the entire cast was outstanding, and they had a live orchestra as well. The Stadium lineup usually consists of a few musicals per season, several tribute bands, comedians, popular singers from years past, and they also seasonal favorites such as "A Christmas Carol" and "It's a Wonderful Life" radio show. We've always had great experiences here and we'll be going back in just a few weeks to see Melissa Etheridge. read more

A truly phenomenal experience last night at the Stadium Theatre. First off, we were headed to a sold out show so we knew parking could be tight. We found plenty of free parking nearby! The outside of the theatre is a welcoming beacon of bright lights and fanfare of yesteryear. The lines moved along swiftly. We encountered an issue with our specific tickets and visited guest services. Everyone was extremely helpful. My special shout out to Dekhi Touray who handled our situation with genuine concern and deftly resolved. He was pleasant and really the epitome of a class act. Friendly, Attentive to all patrons and visible throughout the show. Once inside the opulance of this theater shown. Beautiful from wall to wall; friendly attendants helped with our seating and the show kicked off promptly. Acoustics were phenomenal! Restrooms were also impeccably clean considering how many people were coming through. Overall first class! We will definitely be checking out the schedule and intend to see more events here in the near future! read more

I've always found The Stadium Theatre to be a beautiful, comfortable, and accessible venue. It's a wonderful place to experience community theater, and the productions consistently showcase impressive local talent. Unfortunately, the ushers have repeatedly affected my experience by creating an atmosphere that feels overly aggressive and unwelcoming. From the moment we entered the theater, their unwelcoming approach felt harsh and unnecessary--particularly during the bag-checking process, which was intrusive and involved flashlights being used to inspect personal items. Additionally, during the performance, ushers remained in the aisles closely watching the audience, making the environment feel tense rather than enjoyable. I've noticed this pattern across several shows I've attended. At the most recent performance, I observed ushers approach and reprimand audience members on four separate occasions simply for touching their cellphones. I understand the importance of enforcing policies, but the approach felt excessive and detracted from what should be a relaxed and entertaining experience. I truly appreciate the theater itself and its performers, and I hope management considers a more welcoming and less intrusive approach to audience monitoring. read more

Last night we went to the Stadium theater for a revival performance and we had a great time. The venue is an older theatre that sits over 1,000 people and we got seats about 10 rows from the stage, so it was great to see the performer's face and facial features as the show went on. They have a nice concessions stand that sells all basics, but the main thing is the popcorn....as soon as you walk into the theater, the inviting smell of butter popcorn just surrounds your whole body...LOL... Nice restrooms as well. The Stadium Theatre Performing Arts Centre & Conservatory is a historic movie theater and concert venue and commercial building at 28 Monument Square in Woonsocket. The complex consists of two connected sections, one housing the theater, the other offices, both with retail spaces on the ground floor. The theater was designed by Perry and Whipple of Providence and built in 1926. Although it lacked the opulence of theaters in larger cities, it was one of the most elaborately decorated performance spaces in Woonsocket. The theatre's name comes from the "stadium" style of seating, which allowed everyone in the audience a good view of the stage. The Stadium opened in 1926 as a vaudeville house. The declining theatre was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. The theatre showed x-rated movies in 1980s and closed in 1985. The building declined and decayed until Mayor Francis Lanctot started a campaign to save the building and raised over $3 million in donations. The renovated venue reopened in 2001. The film There's Something About Mary (filmed in large part in Rhode Island) by the Farrelly Brothers premiered in the Stadium in 1998. read more

I grew up going to the Stadium. I have great memories of plays and live music. Something has charged in the last few years. It is no longer a place for live music. They do have plenty of bands, but You're not allowed to stand or dance. The staff are rude, at times militant, and unhelpful. If you're going for a play, it's a little better, but the staff are still the worst. There are plenty of venues where you're treated well and where they understand that people want to dance!! Spend your money elsewhere, don't waste it at this venue. read more

This theatre is a gem. It provides incredible service , impeccable performances, and outstanding courses. The directors and choreographers are so kind, and they really shape your theatre experience. I couldn't ask for a better theatre than this one. Even though some of the workers may seem headstrong, which could turn some away, that's just the way theatre people are. Soooo. Been here a many times; enjoy the shows and have lots fun. But tonight we paid more than usual for a MOTOWN show and we were having good time listening and singing; as usual. Well an ignorant man; who was not even in his correct seat, started verbally abusing one of our group because she was dancing. We suggested he move over because there was an entire empty row. Instead of moving the staff pulled h from his seat; moved him to front section and then came back and removed the entire group of us, 13 ppl who frequent the Stadium Theater. But I can tell you they will never see another dime of mine. This review was going to be a raving one because having great time then they escorted us out. The staff said we heckled the Motown band NEVER. they were great we were singing and dancing Should've paid more attention to situation and taken appropriate action. Like escorting the ignorant, rude, obnoxious person out who started the drama and not the ppl who were dancing and enjoying. Very disappointed!!!!! read more

Last night the theatre held a FREE viewing of Home Alone! What a great idea and way to immerse the community during Christmas time. I thought since it was free it would be mobbed, but there was a good size crowd. Plenty of open seats and space to not be on top of each other. The screen came right down on top of the stage and had a great picture! The sound was great as well. It was extremely nice of the theatre to offer this out as free especially this close to Christmas and with how many staff they had on hand to help with the event! Thanks! Classic art deco takes you back to a time when théâtre going was a privilege. Most of the staff are volunteers, their love for the facility and arts is palpable. There's off-street parking, and a reasonably feed lot for large events. I've been here for a few wonderful events, and always look forward to returning. read more

Attended the Mary Poppins show on May 5th at 2:00, Fabulous show! The Stadium Theatre is a great place to see a play, tickets are very reasonable and every seat in the place has a great view. I've been coming to this venue most of my life (it was the local movie theatre when I was a young teen). It WAS a wonderful time, until we left the show only to find over 30 vehicles, including mine and my daughter's car, had been towed from the lot across the street. PLEASE TAKE NOTE: parking is free in some locations around the theatre but NOT ALLOWED in the lot across the street from the back of the building on Federal St. YOUR CAR WILL BE TOWED!!!! This is a lot that we have always parked in but unfortunately times have changed. The town sold that building as of March 2024, the lot is now private parking (my mistake as well as 30 other people for parking there on a Sunday afternoon). The Stadium Theatre should make a note on their website stating that you will be towed from that lot!! Interstate Towing (on Parker St. Woon.) managed to tow over 30 vehicles in under 3 hours. I'm sure they were waiting for the play to being so they could start their "job" because the time stamp on my towing receipt is 2:00pm, the start of the play! Elderly people and small children were left without transportation in the cold rain, some people ended walking the mile distance to pick up their vehicles! Lesson learned by all of us that day. read more

I was really impressed not only by the show I saw here (The Hunchback of Notre Dame) but of the theater and its facilities. Honestly, I didn't expect such a nice theater in Woonsocket. It's not the most glamorous town in RI, but I'm definitely changing my tune after visiting this theatre. The staff was incredibly friendly, the bathrooms appeared to be remodeled, sleek and very clean, and the seats in the theatre were comfortable. What more can you ask when you're checking out the arts that a quality setting to see some quality theatre. I did not visit the concessions stand so I can't comment on selection or prices, but otherwise everything was better than expected. I would happily head back to Stadium Theatre to see more shows in the future! read more

Christmas Carol 2022 production. We attended the matinee on 12/10/2022. This year's production was very dark and dreary. The actor playing Scrooge came across as yelling the entire time. As for the rest of the cast? We couldn't hear what most of them were saying, especially the ghost of Christmas present. Usually we leave Christmas Carol feeling a lot of Christmas spirit but not this year. This year I couldn't wait for it to be over. Sorry but this was not a good production at all. It's not the actor's fault, it just wasn't good. It's depressing. Very disappointed. read more

Wish I could give a zero stars to this dusty mildew smelling rundown theater. Celeste the old lady at the door was very disrespectful, overly authoritative. Said I couldn't take in an empty sippy cup for my 2 year old (she obviously don't clean the floor spills) and wanted me to empty a bottle of infant formula and....ready for this? She wanted me to buy a ticket/charged me/scanned my ticket for entry for my 3 month old!!! (I had an extra ticket, or we would've been on the news) ...crazy right? all true 100%. I'm not the only one that was complaining almost every person entering, they had something to say about her. This old bat held the lineup checking everyone's purse!?! I somewhat understand her not letting people in with a drink but a healthy snack for the children that were there since early afternoon for the evening performance. Nice little venue in little ole Woonsocket! I've never been here before last week - what a nice surprise! Woony gets such a bad rep but there is a lot of good that can be found there, just keep an open mind. =) Not exactly sure what the max capacity is for the place. Upon arrival, ushers were very friendly and guided us to our seats. Surprisingly, the chairs were comfy and there was leg room! I am not 5' tall, I need some room for these stems! I went Friday night to see the Atlanta Rhythm Section who were okay, but the theatre was great. I sat in the first row for my first time ever, and a great experience. It's a cool place to see a show. Came here for the first time for a private event followed by seeing Dave Masons Traffic Jam. I have to say from the minute we walked up the red carpet to the cocktail party - the staff was super nice and helpful. After cocktails, tasty apps and mingling it was time to make our way into the performance space. This place has been completely renovated and it is gorgeous. It reminds me of a more intimate sized PPAC with much more affordable tickets and less cranky staff. The ladies bathroom on the main level only had 2 stalls but the line went quickly considering. The bartenders on the main level were rocking out drinks at a record pace - beer, wine and mixed drinks. They have free parking out back but it was full so we paid $5 to park (super cheap compared to downtown Prov or at Fenway!) I heard there is free parking spread out throughout this downtown section of Woonsocket after the fact - but not having to walk very far in heels - was worth every penny!! I have seen their A Christmas Carol performances twice this year (2022). They were fantastic. Every year they find a new way to keep it fresh. I saw another review here saying that it was "depressing and scrooge yelled"...perhaps they are not familiar with this show LOL....The flying was incredible, the animals were adorable. Christmas Present was very playful and did have an accent but she played a couple of roles in the show was was completely understandable. Christmas Past had a beautiful voice and was outstanding. At intermission there was a little girl pretending to be Christmas Past in the aisle - so cute. Scrooge was fantastic, there was a wardrobe malfunction of his coat on opening night but he handled it like a professional. Fezziwig was fun and the supporting cast as well as the ensemble were engaged as well. Put on by local talent in a historic theatre made it all the better. read more

Everyone who works there is super friendly and helpful, and drinks at the concessions are pretty reasonable! 8$ mixed drinks for me and good beer choices for the bf, I think about $5. I've been 3 times, shows are hit or miss. They need to invest in more bathrooms. Last night was a "Girls Night Out Show," I counted 7 men in the entire audience, 1 women's room with 2 stalls and they wouldn't open up the men's room for women. However, the other shows I've been to before last night there were also issues with bathroom lines, often snake around the auditorium and if you're at the end of the line you may not get in before intermission is over. read more

Went here this past weekend for a Johnny Cash tribute concert. It was a really fun night. The theater has recently had a huge renovation, and it's located in the center of Woonsocket, so it's pretty easy to get to. They don't have their own parking lot, but there is free parking down the street and also behind the building. Tickets were pretty inexpensive (we had balcony seats and they were $20/each) Our view was just fine, I doubt there was a bad seat in the place. I ordered the tickets on-line on the Tuesday before, and we got them on Thursday.. fast! They have a bar (wine, mixed drinks, beer) and snack bar, but they are both cash only. That was the only thing that was disappointing. read more

Attended "Dinner and Comedy with Father Misgivings," starring radio personality David Kane. As with other cabaret style performances at the Stadium Theater, a buffet dinner preceded the arrival of the good Father. There are no bad seats in the house although the largest table only seats 8. If there are more in your party, prepare to be split into multiple groups. Food in the buffet line was extremely limited, however every selection was extremely well prepared and absolutely delicious. A word of caution, though: vegetarians would have been limited to the salad. David Kane's performance as Father Misgivings, a Roman Catholic priest, is hilarious. This was one of the rare comedy shows where you laugh continuously from start to finish. While you don't have to be Catholic to appreciate the humor, it does help. Some of the finer points will be lost on those that didn't grow up Catholic. The only downside to the performance is that it only lasts an hour. Kane definitely leaves you hungry for more. Parking in the area is somewhat limited, although it's not a problem for the cabaret style shows. Best bet for the cabaret is to park in the large lot directly behind the theater. If you're attending one of the regular performances, check the theater's website for a list of business that allow free theater parking for evening performances. Overall, this is an excellent deal. Dinner and show cost a total of $40 including the various handling / restoration fees. For the quality of the food and the performance, it's a steal. read more

The Stadium Theater has become quite the center of entertainment in Rhode Island offering a great variety of performances. The building is now very lovely and most impressive. A notable area is the Marquee Room upstairs where many dinner events are held. Our most memorable events have been the Christmas shows and a recent Spring show performed by the talented soloist Tony Cerbo. He has the audience involved as he shares his beautiful voice and warm sentiments throughout the evening in the Marquee Room. It is wonderful to feature one of Rhode Isand's own talent! Our group is very anxious to attend his next show there! read more

This place is a part of my childhood. Of course the performances vary- but the stadium is a hidden gem in Woonsocket. The people are so very kind, and the inside of the building is so beautiful- - so very beautiful. Also they have extra comfortable seats for no real reason. read more

A Nice surprise of a local theater right in Woonsocket! I won't lie, that when my boyfriend said he got us tickets to 'A Christmas Carol' in Woonsocket, I was a little skeptical onto what we were getting into.. This was my first time here... but I will definitely be back again! Upon entering the facility, it mimicked larger theaters I have been to, with the old theater feel to it [a feel I love about theaters].. bathrooms were easily accessible and clean... drinks/snacks were available for purchase and upon entering the actual theater portion, ushers were very friendly and ready to guide everyone to their seats. The chairs were comfortable and the view was great from I believe any spot. The show itself was GREAT! The only issue was something with the microphones at the beginning for some of the storytellers, but luckily the female had a strong voice that it carried well enough, and they had the mics fixed by the second act. They even brought in a local chorus to sing Christmas carols during intermission, which was a cute, added local touch. The only bothersome notion was how late people were allowed to enter the theater... I understand people run late sometimes, and they did pay for a ticket, but maybe when it's not a sold out show, have those people sit up in the back area that was open... it was very distracting as audience members to see the little flashlight and people shuffling about trying to get to that middle row seat...and I'm sure it's distracting to the cast. Overall though, my experience was a great one, and I'll be watching their line up for future shows! read more

We went to see Sal Valentinetti last night, December 28. The people that volunteer at the theatre are the most caring, generous folks we have come across in a very long time. I had to have emergency surgery a few months before the concert and couldn't walk. We didn't have handicapped seats and I really wanted to go with my husband. They made special arrangements for us so that we could go and enjoy the show and sit in our seats that we originally purchased. When we got there one of the ushers offered us his sister's handicapped seats because she wasn't going to be able to make it. I can't tell you how wonderful we felt and what a fantastic night it was. We have been to the theatre several times and have never been disappointed. We salute and thank all the wonderful volunteers who work there to make this happen. We recommend this theatre to everyone. read more

As much as I love going to the stadium theater and I have been going for several years, usually 5 to 7 shows a year. I went last night with my mom for her 79th birthday with my brother and sister and could not believe what happened . Talk about discrimination against women. Woman are asked to open up your pocketbook to make sure that there's nothing in there. They say no food a beverage. They don't ask men to open up their pockets or pat down to show if there's anything in there. Just women with a pocketbook. This was my sister's 1st time ever going to stadium theater and she will never go back. I open up my purse only to be told that I needed to remove my hard candy which were worth our original hard candy. I asked twice what are you asking me to remove and he said that right there which were my hard candy. I had to throw them in the garbage because they were considered food and beverage. $5 down the drain. Then my sister walks into the theater and is told that she has to throw her tic tacs in the garbage because they were considered a food or beverage. Why is it that a guy can walk in with the potential of having hard candy in their pocket and not have to toss them, but a woman has to be violated. Shame on the stadium theater. We weren't trying to smuggle in water, a muffin, chops or other oil item. They were hard candy. Not a food or beverage. One woman was so upset that she had to toss her small bag of oyster crackers away that she brought in because her husband is diabetic. Again shame on you stadium theater. I will Not be making the journey from Warwick Rhode Island to Woonsocket anymore. Stadium theater can keep their shows and I will go to the Park Cinema, PPac and Theater by the sea, but I will not be going to stadium theater ever again. They've lost customers over a bag of Hard candy so that my mother and I could put in our mouth because we had a cough. A bronchitis cough. Shame on you! read more

So you want to go to Woonsocket eh? My family is from Woonsocket and both my grandparents and their parents worked on Main St. Woonsocket is like going to the old country for me, although the buildings where they worked have since been torn down. The theatre stands. along with the train station as monuments to the history of a once thriving city. Locations and history like this are irreplaceable and we are lucky to have them in New England. This is our second trip to this theatre. We went a few years ago to see a friend in a local production of West Side Story and this past Friday our friend invited us to the yearly free Three Stooges marathon. The seats were far from full but were filled with fans from all walks of life. They had a rafffle and they sold tshirts. They also had a cash only bar and concession stand. The prices were outstanding given the sticker shock at the multi plex. The theater has been beautifully restored. The seats were the right size for my Sasquatch boyfriend to sit comfortably, which isn't always the case, even at PPAC. The scale of the lobby is small. It reminds me of how tiny French Canadians were back in 1927, when the theater was built. Parking is dicey for me. I'm not sure where to park and having been towed before elsewhere. I am always looking for spots where I won't have a problem. We parked at Chan's because they were open and didn't think they would give us any trouble. They didn't. They have a great education program for kids and adults that want to learn about the arts of Theater. Awesome staff. Friendly and passionate about every aspects of there jobs from teaching to performing as well. wonderful camp program for kids. Also was the first date my fiancé and I went on was to see the Johnny Cash performance, all there shows are worth seeing. If you haven't been to see one. You are missing out on a great performance.
