Dmitry is awesome. I kind of think I should just leave it there, but I know, I should elaborate... My girlfriend has had to deal with a pesky ex who keeps trying to file bogus protective orders. Right away Dmitry understood the case. He listened to my girlfriend, did the research on all the prior harassing court behavior by the ex, and just got it. We didn't have to waste time walking him through the story. However, what was most impressive about Dmitry was how prepared and knowledgable he was about the Santa Clara courts. He correctly predicted the behavior and moves of the overly litigious ex, and was able to aptly and professionally steer the entire proceedings. In the courtroom, Dmitry's skills were on full display. He might've made 15 objections, and 14 of them were sustained. Conversely, the opposing counsel might've might 20 objections and 17 were overruled; Dmitry was simply head-and-shoulders more skilled in the courtroom than the opposing counsel. At one point, the judge got so frustrated with the opposing counsel that he began asking for Dmitry's input on questions he was trying to ask the opposing counsel; clearly the judge respected him. For prep, he was also great. My girlfriend can get a little...let's say "disorganized" when being questioned, and can easily stray off topic. Dmitry did a wonderful job prepping them to take the stand and giving them a sense for what questions would and wouldn't get asked. In every facet, we both loved working with Dmitry. He was friendly, but serious and professional. We're fully expecting the ex to file more bogus claims, and we would absolutely return to Dmitry to squash those as well. My husband caught a DUi. Needless to say I was beyond stressed outta my mind. It was late Friday night I couldn't sleep. So what did I do? I came here.. searching for a good lawyer. I hired Dmitry Stadlin in 2017 after I was arrested for taking a photograph of a police officer who broke my hand in a court file room. Stadlin took a $20,000 flat fee to defend me in that misdeameanor case and to file a civil rights lawsuit against Santa Clara County. Stadlin had poor communication with me, but was very chatty about me to the prosecutor and other divorce lawyers I was reporting on as a journalist. It never felt like he was representing me as much as using my case to elevate his standing in the local legal community. The district attorney offered a plea in the criminal case that would have prevented me from reporting on the district attorney and the courts ( which was my job as a reporter) . I did not take the plea because I was not guilty of what they claimed. Stadlin was upset I did not take the plea which would have left him a windfall $20,000 he had to do little work to earn. The matter was set for trial. When he took my federal case, he did not tell me he didn't have any experience in federal court and had no business representing he did. He was getting lots of help on that case, which I think he took more to help bury the claim for the county where he also worked as an Independent Defense Office ( IDO) contract attorney. I didn't understand that at the time, but it means he is effectively employed by the county my federal case used, and that employes the public defender and the prosecutor. In all of my interations, Stadlin made me very uncomfortable. His behaivor was not appropriate for an attorney and in my opinion he often crossed lines clearly defined by the Rules of Professional Conduct. On the eve of trial Stadlin called me to his office and told me he was going to withdraw and there was nothing I could do about it. He refused to refund any of my money or tell me why he suddenly needed to leave the case, as he was " expanding " his practice into family law and involed in his own costly divorce. I was forced to the public defender. At the hearing on his withdrawl in the criminal case, Stadlin not only handed my file over to the IDO, he handed my civil rights federal suit files over to them too- meaning he handed my private case file over to the county attorneys I was suing in federal court. The state bar did nothing about Stadlin's excessive fees and never even gave the public a warning for giving my file to the opposing side. Stadlin also got permission to take a photo in the same place where I took a photo and was criminally prosecuted, which felt self- serving ( see attached). If Yelp can keep one person from losing money , time and reputation to this unethical attorney, it is worth it. I wish I had never known Dmitry! or any other Attorney for that matter. I spent the first 50 years of my life not knowing how the inside of a courthouse looks like and I would have been perfectly OK for the next fifty years not knowing how one looks. You can be on your best behavior, staying away from conflicts and bad situations but you cannot account for what other people will do to you . In a perfect world, I wouldn't have found myself in need of a legal defense or in need of a lawyer. But when I found myself in such a situation, I was fortunate enough to have Dmitry by my side. And if I ever find myself in such a situation again, I will go to Dmitry (Mr. Stadlin) again. A person I knew for 16 years started harassing me in a lot of ways. After I called the cops the second time, they advised me to get a restraining order against this person whom they characterized as a 51/50 case. So, I started researching the attorneys and I spoke to about 5 attorneys, including Dmitry. Some of them offered free consultation, but most of them, I had to pay for an hour. Most of the attorneys I spoke to were very sympathetic to my case and showed a lot of empathy. Dmitry on the other hand came across as cold and not very empathetic in that first hour of consultation. Obviously, had I gone with how an attorney makes me feel, it would not have been Dmitry, and it would have been someone else. I am so glad I decided to go with Dmitry. None of the attorneys saw any evidence I had when I first met them. I felt good, when some of these other attorneys immediately started calling this person harassing me as crazy, but my data minded brain said something else. What was impressive about Dmitry was when I first met him, he had already done his homework , pulled a file on the person harassing me including the details of a small claims this person filed against me. He came across as very deliberate, very methodical without jumping to any conclusion and me being an Engineer, I quickly decided that I was going to go with Dmitry. His job is not to sit with me and be warm and ask me what I did over the weekend , his is to look at the evidence and present it to the court and win my case which he excelled at Dmitry can be very conservative when preparing for the trial. I was very sure I got this mountain of clinching evidence, but Dmitry questioned everything, and it was a bit frustrating, but quickly it was clear that he was preparing me for the most thorough judicial scrutiny from potentially, a skeptical Judge (or Jury). Throughout the entire ordeal, Dmitry was always accessible and responsive. Dmitry also tried to save me money by suggesting how I prepare my videos etc. to be presented in the court (suggested using an outsourcing service instead of his own paralegals to save money). In the court, he was very organized, very detailed and his sharp legal acumen was on full display, earning the respect of the judge. If you ever find yourself in need of an attorney, look no further than Mr. Stadlin. I also had a chance to interface with his paralegal , Ms. Lizi who prepared all the documents and the deposition and I have to say, the material was super organized and easy to review. I would give Dmitry 6 stars if I could. My case started around November of 2019. Dmitry worked tirelessly throughout the worst parts of the COVID lockdowns and social distancing. The county courts were even completely closed for months, but this was not a barrier for Dmitry. He is incredibly efficient, and got my hearings set up immediately when the courts re-opened. My case got dismissed before it reached trial. It is hard to imagine any other lawyer doing a better job under those tough circumstances.
