Well, after roughly 30 yrs with the same dentist, it's time for me to depart and find a new provider...Nothing wrong with the dental services, but I will not tolerate rudeness of the reception staff...I ended up walking out of there after an argument with the receptionist. This place never fail our family. We've been with this dentist since 2015. Although we moved to Spotsylvania we still rather commute to use their services. Everyone is always so friendly. I'm able to book the whole family at one time. I'm also able to trust their advice. They really pay attention to catch possible problematic areas early. I wanted to find a new practice to establish my daughter and I with and had a very positive experience with Dr. Timothy Hughes and his hygienist. I received a good restorative plan and went to see Dr. Hughes for a root canal which went smoothly with no problem. He presents himself as confident and compassionate and I felt like I was in good hands. I was nervous but he made me feel comfortable and that is something that can't be taught. DO NOT PICK THIS PLACE AS YOUR DENTIST YOU CAN TRUST!!!! We moved to the area and I called in October to schedule an appointment (Just for a routine cleaning and check up). They told me the first available appointment they had was today January 7 (thought that was crazy long for a routine cleaning but I booked it anyways). I showed up today 10 minutes before my appointment time with all my paperwork already filled out and told me they were unable to see me due to overbooking. I never received any phone calls or anything to tell me that they were planning on not seeing me today. I had to make arrangements for childcare and everything and they refused to see me do to THEIR error on over booking. There was a woman in the lobby coughing away but they were willing to see her. Totally unprofessional and unwilling to work with patients when they make the mess up and not following their own COViD protocol and allowing coughing patients in the waiting room. I use to come here when I was a little boy, getting my cavities taken care of, cleaning my teeth etc... But I cannot go here anymore. I explicitly told them I had a rotten that was causing me soooooo much pain, to the point where couldn't I even go to sleep for 24 hours! They showed me the X-rays and pictures of the tooth, the images they showed why they tooth needed to go! By the time we're done and the senior orthodontist came, she saw whatwas wrong & given a choice of doing right there and now or giving me referral. She chose the latter regardless how much I pleaded & the oral surgeon wasn't able until next week when I needed it done now! It was like talking to a robot. Never going to them again that was the first & final straw. read more

I've been going to Dr. Hughes for probably 15 years+ as well as my parents and everyone here has always been great. I've lived in several other areas and this has been the best office by far so have always scheduled visits when in town. After 13 years as a patient of Dr. Hughes, I am leaving. I first went to Dr. Hughes when he was a small, one-dentist practice on Route 1. Eleven years ago he talked me into $4000 veneers to replace the ones I'd had for 20 years. He said the ones he'd provide were better and more advanced and permanent. Last week I went in to see him because one of the veneers had fallen off. It was the 3rd or 4th time that one had failed. It was also about the 15th time in 11 years that one of several of the teeth he replaced failed. It should be noted that the veneers he convinced me to replace had never failed in 20 years. For the second time, his bookkeeper has billed me to replace the "improved" and "permanent" teeth. They say they will no longer stand behind the product they sold me (as "improved" over what I had). Many times his work failed and left me with a fang in the front of my mouth until it could be repaired. Now they are charging me to fix their substandard product/work. Therefore, if I must pay to repair the "permanent" teeth (they fall off when I am eating an orange, oatmeal, etc.) I will pay someone else and not line his pockets. I have worked 30 miles from Dr. Hughes for 7 years, yet continued to patronize the business while it was inconvenient. Now I will find a dentist closer to work. His business boomed into the current office, and I believe the concern for patients, especially long time ones, as decreased. read more

I just went to the dentist and I was so pleasantly surprised. The office is great from the time you make an appointment to the end. They were friendly and so nice. The office is very clean and they followed all the COVID-19 rules. The hygienist was amazing and did a great job with my tooth. She was not heavy handed but thorough. Dr Timothy was wonderful, he wanted to get to know me and my kids. They loved his dog!! He was very interested in knowing my priorities and what I wanted and worked with me instead of trying to push me into doing anything. I actually enjoyed going to the dentist. I was on time for my appointment to get my partial replaced, I was in the waiting room for 30 minutes past my appointment time. Was not told they were running behind. They knew they were running late and did not give me the option to reschedule they would rather have me wait for them. My time is just as important as their time, I view this as very disrespectful. Just after 30 minutes of waiting I was finally called back to see the dentist. I saw her for less than a minute and the appoinment was rushed. It was rushed because they were late. Not sure if I will use their services again. After the partial might look to somewhere else. read more

Overall, i have been happy with my experiences with Dr. Hughes and Stafford Smile Design. My appointments have always started on time, and the staff are all very friendly. They put a lot of effort into making it a positive experience, and each room has a TV (with a variety of channels available) that's positioned so that patients can watch a show while receiving their cleaning. It definitely makes going to the dentist more fun! They also offer evening appointments on certain days of the month, and while these fill up quickly, it's a convenient feature. I took one star off because at my last appointment (which was in the evening), I felt that the staff were rushing to finish my cleaning, perhaps since it was the last appointment of the day. The hygienist forgot to perform the oral cancer screening altogether, and the cleaning was significantly shorter compared to previous cleanings at this practice. Dr. Hughes, however, was great and took time to talk with me rather than rushing. I'll continue going here, but I may try to switch to daytime appointments given the issues with my last one. read more

Thank goodness I did not go with this dentist's recommendation. When I went as a new patient, his office said that I had seven cavities between my teeth. I had been given a perfect teeth report the previous year. I discussed the matter with individuals who had lived in Stafford for more than three years; they said that this dentistry group used to be trustworthy but now was known for being very aggressive about fillings. I got a second opinion from another dentist who did x-rays and an examination. My teeth again got a perfect report. read more

Let me start of by saying that I HATE the dentist. Teeth freak me out, I'm afraid of the ridiculous costs, and the noise/experience is just so weird. After going to Stafford Smile Design, I'm feeling much more confident and worry-free going to my appointments. Their entire staff is wonderful. I cannot say that enough. From the minute you call until the minute you walk out the door, you'll feel comfortable and welcome. Their facilities are first rate, customer service is excellent, and my cleaning was quick, well done, and painless. Dr. Sachdev and Anita were just so kind and answered all my questions clearly. Never was encouraged to purchase anything unnecessary. Now I know why multiple people recommended their office. The good: -extremely hygienic -nice office (new, clean) -nice office staff The bad: -haven't seen any hygienists here who aren't going for blood when they clean your teeth. I know dentists aren't supposed to be fun, but I've had much better experiences elsewhere, where they aren't gouging your gums and probably cheering inside when you bleed profusely.
