This review is pertaining to online purchases only from Stag Provisions. Absolutely, do not order anything from their online store if you expect the shipment to arrive in a reasonable timeframe. This is the second experience I've had with them. Both times the same, so at least they are consistent in their extremely slow process. You place the order and get a notification a full two or three days later stating the shipping label was created. Then two days later , a notification that USPS has picked up the parcel. Then we all know how long USPS takes... It's ridiculous in this day and age to drag this process out for nearly a week. I love the store and have had okay service in the store from the guys that work there. The selection is top-notch, albeit pricey, but that's to be expected for luxury brands. When I entered the place I really liked the feel of the environment. However, I quickly realized that they value their feel more than they do reasonable economic mark-ups. Having worked in clothing a sold many of the brands they carry they are on average 50-75% higher that other stores that carry exact same products. The next five minutes she hovered over that area and proceeded to follow him around the store. I still can't get over the amount of respect and kindness I was treated with. 2020 has been a shitshow, but a little kindness goes along way. BUYER BEWARE! I was visiting town and I bought an RRL shirt right before the holidays for my partner. It was an expensive shirt so I explained to the salesperson that it was a gift for someone out of town and asked if they would be able to refund the shirt if it didn't fit. He said, "no problem, and that they had an extended date into January for holiday purchases." He also said that I didn't need to hang on to a receipt because they had the purchase in the system by my email and could look it up that way. Fast forward, the shirt wasn't right and I called back to ask the best way to initiate the return only to be told that returns are store credit only. I related what I had been told and they handed me off to the store manager, Jen. After A LOT of back and forth she finally agreed to refund the shirt. So, I mail the shirt to them (on my own dime) and confirm that they got it. Then no word. No refund. Nothing. So, I call a few times and ask to be contacted. Jen finally sends an email to tell me that they can't refund the shirt because they don't have a record of the shirt in their system by my email (mind you, I also sent the date and amount and confirmation for a credit card transaction at their store on top of everything else). So, at this point they have the shirt back in their inventory and hundreds of dollars of revenue from me and that seems to be just fine with them. They have not reached out to me in any way, shape, or form to offer a solution (even to just return the shirt). I've filed a dispute with my credit card company over the charge and I've also filed a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau in the hopes that they can help me get my money back and bring this to closure. This goes so beyond bad customer service into an outright lack of any kind of integrity, principles, or good business sense. The worst part is that they truly seem to care less. It is absolutely no wonder so many people have such a terrible experience at this store. Truly sad. read more

This is place is dope, I gotta admit. Perfect addition to the South Congress universe. From the moment you walk in, you feel like you're in cool mens store. They've got mens clothing, shoes, books, furniture and other unique items that most guys will appreciate instantly. It feels like an Anthropologie store but 'guy'-ized .. I mean this in a good way. I just wanted to respond as well to the owner's feedback, which I respect but that does not change my rating. I'll try to keep the glibness in check here (oops, too late! I just ooze glib...). I do understand how a review might affect a business, but your store caters to a niche that I doubt would take my opinion too seriously. However, for those other frugal (cheap?) folks out there, in MY niche, I wanted to satisfy their curiosity if they had any, about your product. And for the record, my husband and I have plenty of Kohl's quality items in our closets that have lasted 5+ years. It's simply about taking care of your possessions. Sometimes, tho, you have to wonder about spending the money on certain fashions (like lumberjack), as their quality could outlast their trend or usefulness. Denim is everlasting, but then I've never paid more than $50 for "quality" jeans either. I have several shirts that I paid $20 for in my closet that I now question why I ever jumped on that trend, but it's no big loss if it never rolls around again. In this instance, maybe I am becoming like my parents, who raised us to be frugal. But I am a rare breed that doesn't mind turning into my folks. I respect that trait and would rather be extravagant in my life experiences than in my possessions. And I will admit that we did indeed see some $40 t-shirts but I felt that was just a redundant argument for my point. A $40. white. t-shirt. Granted it was super duper soft and bff and I thought about buying them for pillowcases, but again, my pillowcases get soft naturally from years of drool and washings. Also I wondered about the nipple factor with those. Would one have to wear a shirt under that shirt or band aids? I don't appreciate being made out as someone who doesn't support local business. The third visit I was searching for a Christmas gift for my pop, someone who doesn't need anything, is just happy with his daughters presence for christmas dinner, and is a very dapper dresser. He would spank me if he knew I spent $280 on a classic black sweater for him, leather on the shoulders and elbows. I think he will love it. I only have one dad. He will soon have only one sweater. Five owners. One I know is Joel Mozersky. I typically rely on my old faithful, Service, to be of assistance. But this year I wanted to surprise my darling with a new spot to buy clothes. My daily drive down South Congress had me watching the new Stag location grow up from a small construction site to a luscious Men's clothing store. The first Yelp reviews had me tickled to stop in and see what they offer. First impression of Stag - pleasantly manly and strong. I felt like I walked into a men's lodge, with a fantastic combination of leather fringe vests, red plaid button downs and strapping accessories. A few pieces that stood out was the selection of men's shaving products. They carry Jack Black shaving products - which are amazing. I also sniffed a sweet fragrant candle called Cannabis. Perfect gift for the chic pothead in your life! Now the gift certificates are marvelous. They look like wooden buffalo nickles and come in different denomination increments. What a creative twist to the typical, boring gift card/certificate. I can't wait to see what he picks out. Judging from the threads in Stag, I know he will be sexified head to toe. read more

I am not a big Yelper, but....on a recent trip to Austin this past weekend I was excited to visit this store for the first time after seeing their website and what they had to offer. The store had wonderful items, but the lack of customer service was laughable. I wasn't looking for attention, but seeing the staff ignore customers and talk amongst themselves was curious and odd. The lone hold-out from that pervasive behavior was the security guard at the door who was greeting folks. Beyond that this store was self-serve. Bought these pair of Baldwin Denim pants from Stag. Altered them because I alter all of my clothes to fit my short stocky frame. First day I wore them they ripped. They ripped in an unusual place. It was to the right of the left back pocket. I had squatted down to get a pen when they ripped so you would think the rip would be the mid seam. Unfortunately Stag doesn't stand behind the clothes they sell and luckily baldwin does and they totally took care of me. So buy baldwin just dont buy it from Stag. read more

A modern men's clothing store that is not metro or stuck on themselves. This place has great brands you won't find in most places and a staff that seems to be able to put together outfits that match a person's style. As most people have stated, the clothing is jeans, flannel, leather boots, khakis, and accessories for men. The clothing style if very casual but different than a J. Crew look that anyone can get from a catalog. Prices seemed like what you would pay in a boutique but I respected that they had some offerings below $100 given that it is casual clothes. I've been avoiding Stag only because I know what kind of damage it's going to inflict on my wallet. Finally I gave in. (Caveat: I do know the owners and knew generally what to expect.) Aesthetically, this is the best looking -- and best curated -- men's store in town, bar none - which isn't the least surprising given that two of its grand poobahs are design legend Joel Mozersky and Mercury Design maestro Steve Shuck. By "curate" btw I simply mean an intermingling of the primary merchandise on sale (clothes) with all sorts of good, interesting books, eclectic ephemera and even furniture for sale. The closest comparison I can think of is the original Jack Spade store in New York. (Or, if we want to go really high-falutin', Colette in Paris.) Austin has a paucity of good men's stores, and an even bigger paucity of ones that carry original merchandise that are affordable (no, I'm not counting Zara), so it was a refreshing change of pace to see lines of well-constructed button-down shirts at a $50 price point. The Stag guys seem to make a point of going after indie designers who make clothes that aren't precious or effete or outrageously expensive -- you can find that at Barneys Co-op or the now-reopened By George Men -- but rather across the board basics for nonconformists who don't just want whatever's on the racks this season at Banana Republic. I see Stag's gotten some flak on here for carrying RRL, which is made by Ralph Lauren. In defense of it, RRL is *very* different from your average Polo crap: it's true rugged sophistication, and very well-constructed over all (not to mention far more Western-oriented). As for prices: all I'll say is don't go in, look at the $200 price tag on the Burkman Bros shirt on the front table and assume the whole store's priced that way. Yes, they have a couple of semi-pricey brands, but the majority of the store is quite reasonably priced. read more

Not "Fancy Lads Emporium" or "The Distinguished Gentleman Haberdashery"... but that's mostly because they won't change their name and seem to be ignoring the suggestions I tape to their front door on occasion written on the finest vellum. One manner of defining the store is that it calls to mind leather bound books and the smell of rich mahogany. It may not be somewhere you shop on a regular basis - I myself come only on occasion due to a limited budget for spendy threads - but everything I've purchased has been of the finest make and quality and I've yet to regret any of said purchases. A well-curated selection of boutique goods for the manliest of men or the the most handsome of women. I was even compelled to buy a vest, which one may view via my profile if one so desired. The good thing about Stag clothes is that they call to my mind bare-knuckled Irish brawlers from the 1800's and Great Gatsby-esque straight-razor wielding gangsters. ... that may sound negative, but trust me... in my mind it's awesome. If you sometimes wonder where Steve McQueen might've shopped for classic, timeless, tasteful, simple, refined and obviously carefully selected clothing and goods, then this is the place to visit. Steve could've built this place. One step in the front door and you'll realize that you aren't in your typical off-the-rack shop. The flavor is in the details. Fine artful books that run the gamut from vintage Playboy collections to your favorite Taschen titles like the aforementioned Steve McQueen (Yes, I'm obsessed) are stacked about the space. Other details include simple and strong vintage furniture, buckles and jewelry.....yes real men aren't afraid of some shiny. As your senses take in the space and the scenery, you realize that it's more of a showroom for how you wish your life was at home than just a simple place to get a new pair of kicks. Take in the sights and notice the details guys......THIS is how real men SHOULD shop! It's obvious a lot of careful creative planning went into this shop, but it manages to not come off as contrived or ill-conceived in a presented corporate way of forcing cheap goods down your throat. This is as good if not better than many of the boutique shops I've seen in NYC and Europe. Hats off to Stag. This is exactly the kind of menswear store you never see-- tasteful and stylish, but with affordable prices. Combines two very disparate concepts-- masculinity and fashion-- but somehow manages to pull it off. No shiny t-shirts, ripped jeans or anything passé like that. A very adult, but not stodgy, approach with more than a hint of Western influence.There is a discerning eye at work here which is all I ask of any establishment. They actually carry a fair amount of work clothes-- broad cuts and heavy duty materials. But they also have some more refined fabrics with modern tailoring.
