If you are looking for a real Vermont experience, The Moose Meadow Lodge is a great start to the journey. This beautiful home with cabin vibes has brilliant decor and character throughout the property. The amenities are far beyond what you'll find listed, thanks to the selfless owners, Greg and Willie. At the very least, you'll have a very comfortable stay. Greg and Willie will go above and beyond to make sure your overall visit to Vermont is worthwhile. We decided to travel to Vermont last minute for New Year's Eve. We booked the Moose Meadow Lodge on the drive up. We were welcomed with open arms. Greg showed us around the property, the lobby shop, brought us to our room and explained all the unique and exciting details of the house and property. We woke up each morning to a beautifully prepared breakfast. Since our trip was so last minute, we didn't have much of a plan. Greg was kind enough to sit down with us and help us map out our entire journey. He even helped us map an alternate route home that was more scenic. We didn't get to everything on the list, but everything he mentioned was perfect. You can tell he has a genuine love and passion for what he does. His advice and planning alone made the experience excellent. I can go on and on about the perfect stay we had. You can tell Greg and Willie are very passionate about what they do. You will never experience this kind of attention and care at a hotel. We are already planning our next stay here.

Flights were canceled or delayed, and even the airline sent automatic refund offers for safety reasons. Every other small business involved in our trip, four hotels, Airbnbs, our Turo car rental, and the airlines, provided full refunds or credits. The Old Stagecoach Inn was the only one that refused to offer any flexibility, citing that severe weather is a "foreseeable" risk and that I should have purchased trip insurance. I understand small businesses rely on reservations, but the response from management felt unnecessarilyj rigid and dismissive, especially compared to the empathy shown by other small, family owned Vermont inns. Given how the situation was handled, I would not stay here or recommend it to others. P.S. We don't think extreme weather is "foreseeable" since we had been checking the weather up to a week prior.

One thing to note: every room is different in terms of size, so make sure you know what you're signing up for -- some of them have shared bathrooms (which was fine for us, and we had no issues with other rooms hogging the bathroom). We stayed here for our recent ski trip to Stowe and it was perfect--only 25 minutes from the resort and walkable to restaurants in the Waterbury area. And the breakfast was incredible! I'll come back here for sure!

For years I stayed somewhere new every time I visited Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, but what I…read morereally wanted was one place I'd want to return to again and again, somewhere that felt like a second home. A year ago I found it at Grünberg Haus, and I've been coming back again this summer--and it was the best tripe yet by far! Duane is the kind of host you don't forget. He seems to know what you need before you do, and you can feel how much he genuinely cares about everyone who walks through the door. I was traveling solo to meet up with friends and got there before anyone else arrived. Duane met me right in the parking lot, helped me get settled. Little touches like that set the tone for the whole stay. I stayed in the Inn and it was perfect. The bed was incredibly comfortable, everything was spotless, and the decor is full of personality and details you will never get tired of discovering. Mostly, though, it was just relaxing. I spent a lot of time just hanging out doing nothing but listening to the woods around me. As a lifelong New Yorker, it was the exact opposite of my daily life, and exactly what I needed. Breakfast is where Duane really shines. He is the heart and soul of Grünberg Haus and a true culinary genius. Every morning he cooked something different and every single one was a winner: egg, ham, and cheese; pancakes and eggs; breakfast tacos. And that yogurt and berry parfait... I'm still dreaming about it. The inn itself is gorgeous, decked out with great pop culture posters and all kinds of fun finds. My friends and I spent evenings hanging out in the cozy living room with a few drinks, and it was a blast. Duane also recently put in a new wifi system that boosted the internet across the entire property, so staying connected was never an issue, even out in the cabin. In the gathering room of the Inn, he's got an incredible selection of records! And if you want to watch anything, the projector is great. The location can't be beat. You're about five minutes from downtown Waterbury, home to one of my favorite bars anywhere, Blackback Pub, plus Freak Folk Brewing, Prohibition Pig, and Hen of the Wood, where I had an unforgettable dinner. If you want something with far more character than a standard hotel, I can't recommend Grünberg Haus enough. Also, Neko is the BEST!

How am I the first to review this place? It seems like it has been here for years…read more Hmph!? Anyway, great location right off I-89. Pretty close to downtown Waterbury and on the way to Stowe. Perfect for us. The room we got is cozy but efficient. The TV is old and outdated, but the bed and bathroom were clearly updated recently. This place has the old homey Inn feeling without being too stuffy. The price is pretty reasonable too. My only complaints are 2 things. 1. No ironing board or iron in the rooms. I know this may sound crazy, but my clothes don't always travel well and I like to try and fix them if I can. 2. The outdoor deck off of our room. Its great to have a cute little deck to enjoy, but with no real windows in the room besides the sliders that go to the deck... making the deck a little more private would be awesome. I would have loved to have kept the slider open for a while, but since the deck is shared among everyone on the floor with no dividers between us, we couldn't. The only other window was in the bathroom and it had an AC unit in it. So we had to sleep with everything shut. Not a huge big deal, but worth mentioning. The simple breakfast in the am was a nice touch and everyone that works here is super friendly. I think we would come back again if we were in the area.

They make it sound as if you will be staying in a charming old Victorian B&B. When I got there, it was not charming, it was merely run-down. It had the feel of an old cheap motel. Admittedly, the owner told us they had recently taken over, but it was not a pleasant stay. We didn't suffer too much from the road noise (the Inn is right on the main road through town) but quaint and cozy it was not. Definitely way overpriced; you'd be better off staying at the Best Western down the road, still close to Ben & Jerry's if you're there for the ice cream factory tour. I would never consider staying at the Thatcher Brook Inn again, even if they were to give me a room for free.
