Had dinner here with one my my closest friends who is going to college in a few days, service was amazing the waitress really made us feel like family, food impeccable chicken sliders are my go to now, and the atmosphere of the place is unmatched by any other place ive dined at!

We loved our dinner at the Highland lodge! We were staying nearby at the Craftsbury Farm and the owners recommend this spot for dinner. Before dinner, we walked down to Caspian lake with a cocktail from the beer garden and enjoyed the evening breeze. We ate dinner on a beautiful porch that had a prime view of the lake. Our dinner was excellent and extremely well-priced. They had vegetarian options for several dishes, which was perfect for my friend. If you are staying in the area, this local gem is definitely worth visiting! I would recommend making a reservation - You can email, call or text them the day of to confirm a spot! There isn't a ton of phone service in that part of Vermont, so email might be your best bet!

This is a really beautiful lovely little inn with a great view. If you like B&Bs, you will totally like it. But for those used to a traditional hotel, I feel obliged to mention that this is not that. You're basically staying in a room in a large house with other people. The night we stayed there, there was a wedding. It would be a lovely place to have a wedding. But if you were not a wedding guest, it was a little distracting and it meant the restaurant wasn't open so we had to go find our own food. Still, we slept well (the bed was really comfy), had a nice time and really enjoyed the scenery. I was somewhat surprised that there was no TV in the room. Not a big deal but just something to know. We did get to partake in the breakfast buffet, which was in some respects very good and in others very not great. So there are a couple of hot options served up by a very nice young man. On that day, it was egg cups (which I found to be super salty) and a bran muffin (which was OK). I didn't finish either. But they did have these awesome little mason jars with blueberry and yogurt and a lovely jar of what I think was homemade granola. That stuff was money. Also noteworthy: there is this amazing field of lupine (purple, pink and white) right next to the inn, which I absolutely loved and took a million pictures of.

Highland Lodge We have stayed at Highland Lodge five times over the last two summers and already have this coming summer's stays booked. The Highland Lodge offers a trip back in time with most of the amenities of the present. The lodge is charming and quaintly decorated with modern touches of charging charging stations and Wi-Fi. There is a in-house restaurant and bar and there is often live music. Breakfast comes with your stay and is a delicious way to start your morning. The views from the lodge and the cottages is worth the price of your stay, and you get access to Caspian Lake included with your stay. You can sun yourself on the beach, enjoy paddle boats, kayaks, rowboats, sail boats, paddle boards, canoes or swim out to the float anchored offshore and watch the clouds float by. Although it is a tiny town there is plenty in the vicinity to do. Top on many peoples list beside the lake is Hill Farmstead Brewery, a Mecca for a craft beer connoisseurs. It is also a wonderful place for families to picnic and they often have food trucks serving delicious food. Kids and dogs are welcome. Don't miss the general store in town nor the art gallery. It is Vermont so be prepared to drive a bit but you can find great dining in Harwick as well as West Glover. Although Highland Lodge is pretty much the only game not only in town but in the area, it does not rest on its laurels. The staff are friendly, conscientious and hard-working and you are treated as friends and family and they want you to enjoy your stay as much as you do. Even if there were several hotels in town Highland Lodge would be the only place for our family. If you are visiting Smirkus, you will only be a couple miles away. First review in 2018: This is our second stay at Highland Lodge in just over 2 weeks (dropping & picking up our child from Smirkus Camp) & it has improved in that small amount of time. If you pined over Dirty Dancing as a youth, this gets you close to the feel without the programmed children's activities. Very family friendly & welcoming-you feel like friends coming for a visit shortly after arriving. That doesn't mean you don't have solitude & privacy because there is plenty to be had. Furnishings match the environment-a century old farmhouse & our mattress was probably from that original farmhouse in our first stay, but by our second there was a nice modern mattress. Rooms are spacious enough, plenty of chest & closet space (my pet peeve is no space for clothes). Just note, there are only window fans no AC which is more than fine 95% of the time in northern VT. Breakfast sources local ingredients, a nice selection & is included. What to do? Loads & nothing! You can grab a book, game or puzzle from the Lodge & sit on the front porch enjoying views of Caspian Lake, while the day away in a rocker or head to the private beach & enjoy the shallows, swim out to the float or take the kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, sailboats, paddle boats, row boat or fishing boat for a spin. Or just chill in a beach chair and enjoy the beauty before you. There aware hiking trails, biking, roller skiing & more. Art, shopping, Museum of Everyday Life, Dog Life, British Tea at Perennial Pleasures.. Life has a different pace here, a pace we all need-breathe....

Chad and Elsa make your stay at Highland feel special. The breakfasts are delicious and the cabins overlook the fields and Lake Caspian and are great for families. The short walk through the woods to the Lake is a great adventure for kids. The boat house has everything you would need from SUP, sun fish, paddle boats, row boat, kayaks and life preservers. There is a swim out dock that my kids love jumping off. We look forward to returning again next summer!

My husband and I were first time visitors to Vermont this summer for a post wedding "mini-moon". We picked Highland Lodge due to its proximity to Hill Farmstead and were so pleased with our decision. Heidi Lauren is so welcoming, we loved the rich history behind the property and could not have asked for a better and more charming stay. We cannot wait to visit again, perhaps in the winter next time!

So we got our Thanksgiving turkey at The Green Mountain Girls Farm, and it was the best turkey I've…read moreever made. Even my sister said so! The day before, my husband picked up a big 22-pound bird that had just been butchered a few days ago. It was so fresh that I had a few tiny feathers floating around in my brine. It was so fresh that I could just barely separate the skin from the breast meat to rub in the butter and fresh thyme, which the Girls also so generously provided. It was so fresh I didn't really have to tie together the legs or pin down the wings. It was so fresh that you could *taste* it. And this was (or had been) one healthy turkey! You could tell by the quality of the skin, the texture of the uncooked meat, the size of the bones!!! Man, this turkey had been doing some weight-bearing exercises or something! Huge leg bones. Wings you could make a meal of. I can't wait to taste the broth. Yet the meat was as tender as it was flavorful. Now, with fresh turkey from a farm, you're gonna want to brine it. My 22-lb bird fit in the brining bag from the grocery store beautifully. I put in 1.5 cups of salt, a cup of sugar, and about 2 gallons of water, and I let her sit for about 18 hours. I rinsed her real well; patted her dry; stuffed her with onion, carrots, and celery; covered her with a pound of bacon; wrapped her up tightly in tinfoil; and then I let her roast at 425 degrees for about 3 hours, unwrapped her, and let her brown for about 30 more. Perfect. Tomorrow I'm making turkey pot pie and turkey stock--with locally grown carrots, onions, garlic, and celery. I love knowing that my turkey had been well-cared for and loved, that she is about as organic as you can get, and that her purchase supported my favorite local farm girls. And my guests loved that tender, tasty turkey.

If no one is available to show me where items are in the disorganized room or to help me use my credit card, I would be at a loss. Prices were high, as they should be, but convenience should be elevated as well. Good luck to them as they sort these issues out.

There are not a ton of dining options in this area, so when we were looking for dinner one night,…read morewe wound up at the Hardwick Street Cafe, which is a restaurant inside of like a small community/convention center type of venue. It's funny because when we arrived, the women at the front desk asked if we were trying to squeeze in dinner before the show, and we were like, "What show?" The food was good and the service was choppy. But I would come back and have another meal here. Everyone tried hard anyway. So we started by ordering a couple of drinks. I was surprised when I asked the young lady which of the two cider options she'd recommend and she said she wasn't allowed to serve alcohol and had to ask one of the older servers. Ah to be young :-) We ordered the cheese platter to start, which came out with four kinds of cheese, some lovely crispy flatbread kind of crackers. We order these types of things at restaurants a lot, and usually when the cheese platter comes to your table, the waiter or waitress tells you the different types of cheeses. That did not happen here so we asked - the young lady again did not know and said she would go ask someone. And then she basically just never came back with the information. We guessed there was a white cheddar, a gouda and a bleu cheese. Still don't know what the fourth one was. I got the cheeseburger, which was fine. And the potato wedge fries that I think I upgraded to were very good. My husband got the chicken and waffles special, which he said was OK. I got a piece of the special of the day chocolate chip cheesecake to go for dessert, and that was VERY good. So in all, decent and would come back. But the service was a bit lacking.
