I agree with a previous reviewer that this is the best B&B I've ever stayed in. The most outstanding thing is the staff. The breakfast part of the B&B is phenomenal. I was a bit disappointed the first morning when I saw a continental breakfast laid out. It looked good though with fantastic granola, fruit, smoothies, and juice. But when I sat down, a full, made-to-order breakfast was also offered. The only mistake I made was in not taking a picture of the huge waffle covered with sliced strawberries and whipped cream. I think the morning manager Allie was responsible for the menu. But this isn't all. We chatted with the other managers and got suggestions about where to eat dinner and what to do. And there was more to do right at the inn. A bar is open every night if there are customers. A fellow living in the neighborhood stopped at the bar one night, and we got even more information from him. There's plenty of parking. Dozens of restaurants and shops are within a block or two, so if you are too tired to drive somewhere, such as Stowe, there are a number of good choices for dinner with a short walk. The room and the parlor/lobby make you feel it's the 19th century. A jigsaw puzzle was on the coffee table and being slowly put together by guests. Kids were playing with the many toys and games there too. And all the other guests seemed to appreciate the Old Stagecoach Inn as much as we did, giving it a community feel. The only cautions are there is no elevator in part of the inn and there was no TV in our large room. However, since we felt we were in a 19th century, Victorian house, a TV would have been out of place. They said they may add a TV, but like us, they were worried that it would look odd with all the antiques. And yes the main building dates to 1820 and a stagecoach inn, but it was later turned into a mansion and even late extra rooms were added. When we toured the Shelburne Museum, a docent at the Vermont inn building said he had helped convert the house to an inn years ago and remembered the beautiful woodwork in some of the rooms. read more

My best friend and I had a reservation at the Old Stagecoach Inn and had to cancel due to official severe storm and travel hazard warningsissued across New England. Flights were canceled or delayed, and even the airline sent automatic refund offers for safety reasons. Every other small business involved in our trip, four hotels, Airbnbs, our Turo car rental, and the airlines, provided full refunds or credits. The Old Stagecoach Inn was the only one that refused to offer any flexibility, citing that severe weather is a "foreseeable" risk and that I should have purchased trip insurance. I understand small businesses rely on reservations, but the response from management felt unnecessarilyj rigid and dismissive, especially compared to the empathy shown by other small, family owned Vermont inns. Given how the situation was handled, I would not stay here or recommend it to others. P.S. We don't think extreme weather is "foreseeable" since we had been checking the weather up to a week prior. read more

Maybe the cutest bed and breakfast I've ever stayed at, with phenomenal customer service. This place is cute, cozy, and has everything you need for a relaxing weekend getaway. One thing to note: every room is different in terms of size, so make sure you know what you're signing up for -- some of them have shared bathrooms (which was fine for us, and we had no issues with other rooms hogging the bathroom). We stayed here for our recent ski trip to Stowe and it was perfect--only 25 minutes from the resort and walkable to restaurants in the Waterbury area. And the breakfast was incredible! The Old Stagecoach Inn is a historic bed & breakfast that was built in Waterbury, Vermont in 1826. Designed in the Federal Style, the home was built by a contractor simply known as Mr. Allen who had a crew of just two carpenters: brothers Horace & Henry Atkins. Some records indicate the first owner was a lawyer-turned-judge named Daniel Carpenter while other records indicate it was owned by a Mr. Parmalee. Regardless, the house was located along the Winooski Turnpike and was soon converted into a stagecoach stop for travelers heading to nearby Stowe. By the late 1800s, the property was owned by the Henry Family which included daughter Margaret Annette Henry. After marrying the wealthy industrialist Albert H. Spencer, "Nettie" oversaw numerous additions to the facade which gave the structure its current Queen Anne look. Several more owners would come and go over the years. In 1987 (after a two year renovation) the property was opened as 'The Old Stagecoach Inn' by new owners Kimberlee and James Marcotte. The father and son team of Jack and John Barwick became the new owners in 1993 and they passed it onto current owner Christa Bowdish in 2022. I recently spent the night at the Old Stagecoach Inn while I was on a two-day Vermont craft beer road trip. Since Waterbury is the location of several popular craft beer hotspots, I decided to make the town my home base for the trip. After reading about the historic inn, I immediately booked a room. The interior of the inn was so beautiful and all of the staff were so friendly, inviting and helpful. I even learned that some people believe the inn to be haunted by a friendly ghost. Many think it is the spirt of former owner Nettie Henry Spencer. I'm very interested in the paranormal and this stuff is right up my alley. I stayed in Room 3 which is on the second floor. Although I had to share a bathroom with other second floor guests, it was available every time I needed to use it (and quite nice too). The inn is a short walk (less than five minutes) from a number of popular craft breweries and beer bars such as Freak Folk Bier, The Tropic Brewing, Prohibition Pig, The Reservoir, The Blackback Pub, and the Vermont Beer Collective. The inn even has a "Library Pub" which is open to guests and the public alike in the evenings until 9pm. I had planned to visit but after a long day of driving and then sampling craft beer, I just wanted to go to sleep. The following morning I headed down to the dining room for breakfast. I ordered the "Florentine Eggs Benedict" (two poached eggs, English muffin, hollandaise sauce, spinach) as well as some fresh fruit, yogurt parfait, coffee and orange juice. It was a delightful little breakfast! I had a fantastic experience at the Old Stagecoach Inn and my only regret is that my stay was so short. Prime location walking distance to the pubs and coffee shops in Waterbury. They make you feel right at home here. The breakfasts (as mentioned in multiple other reviews), are excellent! Served with love! This is a great location if you want to be between Stowe and Sugarbush and MRG. You can pick your place where you want to go skiing. You are also in beer heaven too. I was on highway I89 in a mystery snow squall with no exit in sight. Hand shaking, tires spinning, I thought to myself, will this be the end? All the sudden an exit sign appeared out of nowhere marked "Exit 10" As I carefully got off the exit and used the last of my now depleted emotional and physical energy, I found a gas station. There I had myself a red bull and mustered the strength to find a place to stay out of the storm. After opening yelp I saw "the old stagecoach inn" for $115 and it was only 300yards away. I made my way over and walked into the inn and was told there was a discount for the evening- only $100 From there the friendly Inn keeper greeted me and offered a clean shirt, Heady Topper and live music in the common area. I probably had too high expectations for my first real Vermont bed and breakfast experience. The Old Stagecoach Inn is a lovely B&B right in the middle of Waterbury convenient to all the local attractions. This is a classic experience intended to encourage disconnecting from everything and relaxing in a cozy environment. The classic and ornate room had a great bed and lots of space, but the lack of a television and weak Wifi was tough. My room had a small and basic bathroom and a window air conditioner keeping up with the summer heat. The inn has a small bar downstairs with cold drinks and an opportunity to mingle with other guests. I really appreciated the cooked-to-order breakfast with delicious apple pancakes and sausage. You really need to appreciate the whole B&B experience to enjoy these places. This is a great way to interact with strangers and escape the wired world. If you have trouble with these, your experience may not be so inviting. The Old Stagecoach Inn is probably a great example of a Vermont bed and breakfast experience, but whether or not that experience is worthwhile is still rather subjective. read more

Stayed here on an overnight trip to Vermont. Called ahead of time to check prices and the gentleman who answered was very nice and helpful. The house itself is very picturesque. Great location walking distance to great restaurants and drinking in waterbury. They have different room sizes for different needs, our room was pretty small as we figured we would only be there for one night. The bed was comfortable though along with nice pillows ( I am a pillow brat). The breakfast is awesome and they have a lot of good options to order from. I got a belgian waffle which was good. The owners were hospitable but not super friendly or talkative. Overall would definitely recommend it in Waterbury. My first experience in a bed and breakfast and I really enjoyed it. We had a few minor mishaps but nothing too serious. One person in our party neglected to inform the inn that we would be a party of 3 and not 2 so we ended up having to share a king sized bed. Wasn't the businesses' fault but you really come to appreciate actual hotels with the ability to accommodate you in a different room with a high chance of availability. There was also a mix up with the amount of nights and amount charged for our stay which was corrected the next day by the owner. They were very attentive about it. Now for the rest of the good stuff... What a beautiful location. The building is so well kept. They have a nice patio with tables for you to enjoy their well known breakfast in town. Their eggs Benedict were fantastic with homemade Hollandaise sauce. It was a nice suprise to find out our breakfast was included with our stay when we asked for the bill. Free WiFi was also available. We stayed in the back of the house (can't remember the room number) with a nice kitchen and even a small deck to sit outside with a view to the yard. The room had a nice king sized bed with a love seat. The bathroom was great, I'm not sure how they make it happen but the bathroom was not freezing in the mornings. They have the cutest little dog that roams around the bed & breakfast like he owns the place. Would definitely recommend staying here if you're in Waterbury. read more

This B and B was outstanding. My husband and I stayed two nights and wished we could have stayed longer. The staff was friendly (including the bird Sophie and dog Max) and very helpful. The history and ambiance of the house also added to our great experience. The bar downstairs is also a great touch, with great local beer available. The breakfast, both mornings, was delicious (eggs benedict, huevos rancheros and classic fried egg plus sausage all great) and were a great way to start our day. The location is also wonderful, just a walk to some great places to eat, drink and shop. We're locals and only came for a Saturday breakfast. There are self-serve pastries/muffins/fruit/granola and orange juice/water/coffee/tea. Then you can sit down at a table and a waitress will bring a menu, which has a decent listing of your typical breakfast foods. They also had a special omelet which my wife had. She enjoyed it, which means it was very good, because she's a picky eater. I had banana pancakes and a side of bacon. Standard fare and it was fine. It's a single price for whatever you order on the menu. The place is an older hotel, kind of like a bigger B&B. It's not my taste in decor, but the older generations would like it, probably. read more

This is in the perfect location for those sampling Waterbury's fine restaurants, and a better value than the alternatives I checked out. At this time they accept bedandbreakfast.com gift cards. That said, my room, though large and airy, lacked a TV, fridge, or coffee maker. The private bathroom had a walk-in stall shower, but no tub (OK with me). It was on the street side, so a bit noisy in the morning. The bed was comfortable and the bed lamps adequate for reading (remember - no TV). Internet access was great, but not comfortable for my Imac. People were friendly and the breakfast great. It is so important to check out the amenities in your B&B room before you book - they vary so much even within the same facility. read more

I have now stayed at The Old Stagecoach Inn over a dozen times. Normally for work and try to stay in the old stagecoach area for Wifi so I can at least do a little work until hitting my favorite pubs in town like Blackback and Pro Pig. This last time up however was even more special as I had my family in tow. John helped me with discounted lift tickets along with a great ski report and for my kids first time hitting the slopes was a very successful one. The breakfast was, as always, incredible and my family and myself enjoyed basically everything on the menu. John and staff really do know how to treat each person as a person. I am normally a Marriott person and even after a Marriott rolled into town refuse to go there(actually stayed once due to the inn being booked) as the breakfast and social aspects of the inn fair overshadow The Old Stagecoach Inn. The Old Stagecoach Inn deserves 10 stars for their amazing outstanding world class brunch alone. This was seriously the best breakfast I have had in my life, and I enjoyed the meals we had here than I did at the highly touted restaurants we ate at during our Vermont trip (Hen of the Wood, Prohibition Pig, etc.). The owner was very nice and friendly. And we cannot say enough good things about the man who looked after the inn, Errol. Just all around an a great guy who made our stay a wonderful time. You couldn't ask for a better location either. Literally a 30 second walk to the bars in town. The inn's interior and rooms are old school, with a nice historic charm to them. I felt like I didn't have a care in the world when staying here. It's nice to feel like you're out in the country (even though you're in town) and to get away from the HD tvs and the hi-tech bells and whistles of modern hotels. Long story short, I had an amazing stay at the Old Stagecoach Inn, and my wife and I enjoyed it so much that we told ourselves that we are going to try to visit here every Autumn. Location: convenient to Ben and Jerry's and other attractions, several restaurants in walking distance, easy access to highway. Our room was right on the road and was very noisy. Since we were on the second floor we could hear every creak on the 3rd floor and everyone on the stairs. Inn: it is very old, with a musty smell of antiques. Our room was large but hadn't been dusted in quite awhile. We had no tv or hair dryer in a room that we paid 218 for one night. We killed a large spider and were quite cold at night as we couldn't regulate the temperature. They have an African grey which we heard squawking. Food: looked good but we passed. Recently stayed at this B&B on a last minute VT getaway. It served as our base of operations to explore the town of Waterbury and other jaunts to Shelburne Village and Burlington. The hosts were not overly hospitable, but were nice enough and allowed us to check in early. (although check in time could not be located on the website.). We were directed to our room, offered some local maps but not told or shown anything about the inn. (Through some exploring on our own, we found a cool parrot in the sitting room, and a great looking bar near the stairs.). The location of the inn is fantastic, and we walked to lunch and later out for drinks at the nearby brewery, the Alchemist. We were shown to our room, which included a small kitchenette, couch, queen bed, a comfy chair, private bath and a decent size flat screen TV. The room was clean enough, and well lit with plenty of sunny windows. The kitchen was quite adequate for basic cooking, and the fridge was clean too. The bed was very soft, and we both woke up with sore backs though - a low point for our relaxing getaway. The next day we went down for breakfast, and chose a nice spot inside, although the patio deck seating looked nice too. The buffet style setup at the entrance included coffee, juice, water, muffins, and granola. At the table, a nice woman brought over the hot selections menu and told us the specials. We settled on the huevos rancheros and a special request (handled well with a smile) VT cheddar and mushroom omelet. Both choices were excellent and attention to detail shined through on both. Would recommend the breakfast, but for the price, I think there are better values to be had in VT's B&B selection. read more

My wife and I love going here for Breakfast. Its a little more pricey ($15 per person) compared to your average greasy spoon breakfast but the food, ambiance, and service are outstanding. We especially like eating on the porch in the summer time. Beautiful. They have a continental breakfast section in the foyer where they serve fruit, pasties, and granola in antique serving sets. Plus coffee and tea. The menu is ala carte. You order what you want for a flat fee. I havent really pushed it by ordering a ton of food or anything, but I dont hold back either. Good food. Nice portions. Theres a docile weiner dog that keeps a respectful distance, and there's a parrot over in the main living room. read more

My wife and I have stayed at the Stagecoach Inn many times staying In a different room almost every time and we keep coming back. We have stayed in rooms with both a private bath and a shared bath and both have been clean. The included breakfast can't be beat, even if I didn't stay here I'd come and pay for breakfast. During our most recent stay we had our dog so we stayed in one of their reasonably-priced apartments which had a kitchenette, fridge and private bath and it was very nice. Only issue I have had is I think they could use an updating of their mattresses but the breakfast makes up for it. read more

John was such a delightful host and a phenomenal cook with different specials each morning and all of them being the same exquisite quality as the others. The rooms are all uniquely decorated different and adds a fun vibe to the place. Because it was fall/winter when we went, every night a warm fire brewed in the fireplace and allowed a comfy and inviting for all guests to come and hangout downstairs. I stayed here with my boyfriend right after Christmas in December 2013. It provided a beautiful, convenient and comfortable place to stay while indulging in all of the tasty craft beer Vermont has to offer. It's within walking distance of all of our favorite Waterbury restaurants. The customer service was exceptional too! Our small but economical room was next to a family with a crying child, so we politely asked if we could pay additional money to be moved to a different room. They weren't filled to capacity, so they decided to upgrade us, free of charge, to a beautiful room much further down the hallway. It was a very generous gesture, and we definitely appreciated it. My boyfriend and I plan on staying here again -- the entire experience was wonderful! Not to mention the huge breakfast they offer in the morning!
