They stock products that folks actually want without the distractions, and the prices are fair. Love this place! Been going since I moved back to Atlanta 5 years ago. The workers are top notch and go overboard with kindness. Devin is cool. It has a southern charm and feel. Favorite part of my visit - the rabbits & the customer service! Customer service: Xavier helped me with my seed choices. Super knowledgable about what's best for your lifestyle and set up at home. He didn't rush me or get frustrated when I kept asking questions. I really appreciated that. The other associates were so helpful as well. Atmosphere: When you come here, you will see a lot of hard working people shopping here. This isn't a place you come to because it's pretty. It doesn't look like Home Depot's garden area. It's very modest and looks like a place for farmers. I LOVED IT! Tip: if you want to buy one of the rabbits, ask them about everything you will need first before making a final decision. I am both surprised and happy that a store like this exists within our city. I went to retrieve a 50 pound bag of whole kernel feed corn. (Sometimes I really get a craving.) They had what I needed. It didn't even cost me that much. And I bet the fellow would have hauled the bag down to my car for me. There's even a loading dock for BIG orders. They could use better signage, to be sure. One sign near the street doesn't really adequately highlight where the front door of the establishment is. But that's really my only "negative" observation. These folks have a lot of every feed & seed need for your steed or whatever your breed. It's a no-frills environment, with a set of cages for big freakin' chickens near the door, and supplies for the caring pet-owner, too. read more

Well, I've been here a few times and the 3-star rating I'm giving is a bit complicated. 4 stars for having a good selection of chicken feeds of different price, protein, and quality points. 5 stars for being in town. 1 star for catering to the dog-fighting, dog-chaining set. 2 stars for sub-standard housing for the rabbits and chicks awaiting purchase. Give em some sunshine and fresh air, for gods sake. My purpose for going there is chicken feed. The only close/convenient alternative is Farmer D's. And while I am willing to fork over the extra $ for the organic, my hens don't like it as much and waste half of it. Off I go to Standard for their favorite pellets. My hope is that people will come to Standard and buy SO MUCH chicken supply stuff, that Standard decides that stuff is more profitable than the instruments of dog abuse they also sell, and stop selling that crap. This is a no-frills feed store. No A/C, not a lot of signs or info. the staff seemed a little helpful at first, but then it was awesome that they will take whatever bags of feed you buy to your car. They've got a good amount of supplies as well, and some plants for sale as well. The prices seem good. The choices are to go here, or trek out to Tractor supply 45 minutes away.... read more

I have read the other reviews and believe some consumers are new to agrarian stores. Standard Feed and Seed is not a pet store. It is not a garden shop. It is not a Farmer D's. It does not determine its clientel. Standard Feed and Seed is just that - they sell feed and seed. I was just there today and got some great advice on starting to raise chickens. The guys were very friendly and no question was looked on as being stupid - although I am sure some were. I ended buying four different breeds of chicks, and will grow them to lay eggs. Standard Feed and Seed had everything I needed along with some good advice. I then spoke to the owner about getting some organic feed in and he is not against it but feels the cost may not be accepted by the public. So if you want it let him know and support it by your purchases. I have been a few Feed and Seed stores in this state and Standard Feed and Seed compares quite well to the ones I have been in. Great spot if you're needing to get feed. Great spot if you need seeds. Not for people who are far-removed from farm life, as this place is just like a feed and seed store that you'd find in rural Georgia, just a little bigger with a little more inventory. They also have a great selection of barber line hens during the spring, and the staff is very helpful with advice if you're a first timer with raising any kind of livestock. I have been shopping at Standard Feed and Seed now for 5 years. I rescued 3 Chickens and a duck 5 years ago, and was referred there for feed. The staff is so helpful, and I learned as I went. each spring I add 3 more Chicks to my Flock. They are always healthy, and I have never had a problem with any Chick being a Roo. In my area of Dekalb, I can't have a Roo, which stinks, but I can't have one. The store is no frills, always clean, and stocked well, priced right. It's wonderful to have this store in the city! Having shopped at Feed & Seed stores for years, this was really disappointing. There is very little signage to help you find the door to the place, which is a bit obnoxious. Add in the disgusting, rusted cages that the rabbits are kept in, being ignored by the staff (3 different people, who were not busy helping others), and the enormous selection of strange dog collars, and you can see why I didn't find it a friendly place. Here's my advice: get in, get your stuff, and get out. Don't have any expectations. The only upside is that I didn't have to drive to Douglasville, and that they had Equine Pine. On a side note, if you're near Douglasville, check out Turner's Feed and Seed. Much better customer service, a very convenient location, and the same types of products (minus the weird dog accessories). It's a bit redneck, but less so than Standard. Frankly, this place creeped me out. I regret taking my kids with me, even for the few minutes we were there. read more

If you live inside the perimeter and your boyfriend buys you a Nigerian Dwarf goat for your birthday, a trip to Standard Feed & Seed is most likely an inevitability. Alternatively, if you are conducting an investigative report on illegal dog fighting in the ATL, Standard's bulletin boards announcing pit bull puppys (sic) for sale are probably a pretty good place to start. You can pick up all of your most basic goat care supplies (shredded beet pulp, Sweet PDZ, black oil sunflower seeds, bermuda hay) at Standard. Unfortunately, their selection of feeding systems, grooming equipment, specialized supplements and the like leave a great deal to be desired. Then again, so does everybody else's. I guess goat husbandry is special-order world. But, if you are in the market for dog collars, especially those with an emphasis on either choking or seriously pimping out your dog, thus assuring him the position of badest-ass bull on the block, check out the wall-o-chain at Standard. Let me warn you though, the whole affair (at least the dog side of it) is a little creepy and may leave you feeling icky inside. Standard also has chickens and rabbits for sale (seasonally and subject to availability). And I believe Standard does stock some "seed," though I wasn't in the market for it. At first, I gave Standard three stars, but had to up it to four after visiting Tractor Supply Company in Dallas, GA. I just hopped on here to see how early they open because I get my lamb & rice formula dog food here for my perfectly well cared for non-abused American Bulldogs...& when I read the reviews I felt like I needed to defend this place! Giving a bad review to a small business on the basis that you think idiotic people might misuse things they sell there is like giving any other pet store a bad rap because you believe it's dog abuse to feed dogs food that is full of by-products that they are allergic to! Anyway, for my part the people here are always friendly and helpful & are the only people in town that have a fair price on food my dogs are not allergic to. The place is pretty creepy overall, as soon as you walk in there are chickens and bunnies in cages. But as the guardian of two goats it had everything I need. Hay, sweet feed, bowls, trace mineral salt, etc. They don't have regular goat chow which means I have to drive all the way to Tractor Supply to get it. They also have dog food and stuff like that but it's a pretty creepy place to go if you just need regular dog supplies. Although they do have some pretty good size sturdy dog houses that I would recommend. read more

I go here for my chicken feed and bedding. They have a good selection (no organic if that's your thing). The name says it all, it is a feed and seed store. I've also started buying my dog food from here as they have a good selection of very high quality dog foods that are a good bit cheaper than their counterparts at the large pet stores. They also have a decent supply of feeders/waterers. Staff is very helpful, answer any and all questions you may have very courteously, and carry anything you buy out to your car for you. If you've been in any typical, rural feed and seed store you should know exactly what to expect. It can be a bit hard to find the first time. You've just got to get your GPS to take you to the address, down the one-way portion of Brannen, and pull around back of the dilapidated looking little shopping center. read more

I've gone to Standard Feed and Seed often for years. I've gone for rabbit, chicken, goat, and dog supplies. I've seen quite a few people coming with pits, but it's not my position to judge or assume that I know if these are beloved pets or not. The selection for more 'exotic' in-town farm animal is a little on the slim side. Like others I end up having to drive to Tractor Supply to get quite a few things. I've learned, though, to just not ask for anyone's help. There are staff that are pretty rude and questions don't seem to be appreciated... but really it just depends on the day and the person... just like any other retail business. I do the majority of the research for things I need online and I'll call in to see if they have it in stock or if they're willing to order it. If not then off to Tractor Supply or online ordering I go. Standard's got the market cornered in Atlanta, great prices, local(ish), chicks and rabbits (when in season) and because it's a HECK of a lot closer to me than Hiram Ga I'm willing to forgive the dark, creepy interior and the bad attitudes. read more

I don't know what the deal was with these other two reviews. Standard is not creepy and certainly doesn't focus on puppies for the sake of dog fighting (not sure where Katherine got that impression). The people here are really helpful, down to earth, and knowledgeable. They have a wide variety of products for many different pets and a great selection of organic seeds. We got starter supplies for baby chicks from them. They are easy to get to (just off 20 from the Gresham Rd exit). A stop here is well worth the visit. Their prices are unbeatable. Two thumbs up!! This is an old fashion feed store, people. so don't go there expecting a doggy boutique, because if you do you will be very disappointed. That said, Standard Feed is a great place to get all your animal supplies. The have feed and farm supplies for all types of farm animals. They also have supplies and great dog food for the dog in your life. No pretty puffy stuff here, just the basic utilities for the farmer and dog owner. At Standard Feed you know you are paying for the product, not the pretty. The staff is wonderful, friendly and funny. I get great customer service every time I go there. They know their business and are willing to answer any questions about the care of your animals. I'd say that's the way it's supposed to be. I'd rather go where I know I will get good customer service, knowledge about my animals needs and not be overcharged for frills. This place is NOT A CUTESY, CUDDLY place. It's a feed and seed store. As chicken owners inside the perimeter, my wife and I find this a great place to buy chicken supplies, feed, hay and the like. They also have a good supply of vegetables, starter onions and other garden stuff in the spring. The owner is helpful and knowledgeable, and he raises chickens himself. This store appears to cater to two distinct clienteles: in town farmers and pit bull owners. While the dog side of the store is off-putting, it is very nice to have an in town Feed & Seed. We occasionally ride out to Loganville to Boss Brothers-a great store, but a much longer haul. There is also Farmer D's near the Whole Foods on Briarcliff. If you are raising chicks in the city, I recommend this as a place to go. The kids love seeing the chicks, bunnies and (yes) even the pit bull puppies there. read more

Such a cool blast from the past, it's clearly not catering to fancy pants big box shoppers that don't want to get dirty working in their yard...but thank goodness for that. They have feed & bedding, chickens, plants...everything you will need to get your urban homestead off the ground.
