I have been going to Dr. Humphreys for years, and while I always found the eyeglass prices to be…read morehigh, my insurance covered 80% of the exam, and I felt Dr. Humphreys was excellent. This year I retired. I was not sure if Medicare would cover any of the exam due to my eye condition so I asked how much the exam would cost if they didn't. I was told that it would be $112, so I was fine with that and made an appointment. Before I left I paid $40. The billing person submitted a bill of $260 to Medicare. That is 2.3 times the price she quoted me over the phone if Medicare didn't cover it. The bill I received from Dr. Humphreys office showed a credit of $65.01 from Medicare, (even though the billing lady insisted that they paid nothing, and that they had just taken that much off of the allowable amount) and a remaining balance of $154.99 that I owed. I ended up paying $194.99 for an exam that would have only cost me $112 if I had not given them my Medicare card. They got the extra $83 from me, and lost a patient. I will miss the services of Dr. Humphreys, but I will not be returning. I specifically asked about the charges and explained I was now on a fixed income before ever making the appointment. How disappointing!

They said I would have to wear them as is for a few weeks and then I could come back IF they are slipping down my nose. If the glasses are never adjusted to begin with and there is a 100% chance that every time you look down they're going to fall into your lap!!! Why are they refusing to do the initial fitting when I pick them up? Might as well just mail them to me! So I guess I'm supposed to hope that my glasses don't break every time that they fall off my face and then drive another 30 minutes back down there later because I happened to get a lazy person when I picked up my glasses??

The Doctor said I only had two choices-- dilate or pay $30 extra to have my eyes photographed. He said it's because he was sued years ago (then went on to tell me the entire story.. he also mentioned that the judge in his case told him that in the state of Utah, if you're doing eye exams, you must dilate or photograph or you're liable if the person has a brain tumor..?! Which is inaccurate.) Sharing the lawsuit story story was unprofessional; if Legacy requires eye dilation for every vision exam they perform, they should explain that it's required at the time of appointment. I've been wearing glasses for 30 years and have never been *forced* to dilate my eyes (or pay extra to opt-out) for a standard vision exam.

The girl was really rude and standoffish like I was asking to many questions. I asked her if this included the price for both insurance and she said no. She didn't sign up with insurance. My daughter did since she sent the paper work Just made it seem like it was a scam considering how rude she was being when I asked questions.
