I hired them to clean carpet that was only a year and a half old and in a rental property that I own in Clifton and my former tenants were unfortunately very filthy. I was afraid I was gonna have to replace the carpet as it appeared that the tenants never wiped their feet before the entered the house. One Star because - when Stanley Steemer ruined our 6'x14' fine wool rug, they handed over the case to their Insurance Adjuster, rather than taking responsibility themselves for the replacement. Background: Previously, we had recently used Stanley Steemer on two occasions where the work was perfect. Therefore, we were quick to call them to remove a few mud footprints on our hall rug. All seemed well, and the rug was cleaned. I paid over $600 for the service at that time. However, the rug would not flatten out; ripples persisted. SS came back and took the rug to their NY workroom where the final restitution did not succeed. We were told the rug was irreparably damaged. I cannot vouch for how the rug became damaged ... too much steam? I do not know. I just know that Stanley Steemer washed their hands of the incident, turned it over to an insurance adjuster, and moved on without being supportive of a loyal customer. I spent almost 2 months haggling with their adjuster about what was fair and right because of Stanley Steemer's carelessness. I got nowhere. The adjuster was not going to give us the replacement cost for our very fine rug. Although the rug was 9 years old, it was in perfect condition and would have lasted us a lifetime. I provide this information for your consideration only. Be alert - Accidents can happen and when they do, you want to be dealing with a company that will not run away from their customer obligations. They were out in a little over an hour?? How?? When my realtor went in, the Carbon Monoxide alarm was going off. I called Stanley steamer tech who said yes it went off but they shut it off and they were finished so they left. The alarm is going off and they just left?? They didn't even think to call me?? The realtor called the Fire dept who called police and then the levels on the 3rd floor were so high with CM we had to stay out of the house for 3 hours with windows open. WHY? Because they backed their truck to the garage and left it running into my house all that time. So the house filled with carbon monoxide. On top of that, even the Fire dept and police could not believe the carpets were even touched. I complained to Stanley steamer about the whole situation and said I wanted my money back. I got an estimate from Stanely Steemer, as well as from a previous service I'd used, for a family room carpet cleaning, and ceramic tile cleaning/ color sealing in a foyer, a half bath, and two full baths. I gave the person I spoke with (on the phone) the sizes of all these spaces. They emailed me an estimate of $ 729.32. They came in under the estimate of the company I'd used previously, so I decided to give them a try. When the technicians arrived (they arrived shortly after 1 pm, had been told they would be here between 8 am-1 pm), they told me the actual cost would be over $1300, which was about 70% more than the estimate. We had company coming, and had moved out furniture-- the choice was to say OK to that 70% increase, or say no, and not get anything done. They kind of had us over a barrel-- I signed off on that. I called both the local Clifton Stanley Steemer branch, as well as the national number the next day, to complain about the huge discrepancy between the emailed estimate and the actual price. They told me they would give me $150 off my next service. I told them I'd never be using them again!!! Their technicians were very nice, and did a good job. However, if i'd known it was going to turn out to be so much more than the estimate, I would have gone with the company I'd used before. I've never used Stanley Steemer before. I was moving into my new home, which has brand new tile floors. I decided to hire Stanley to steam and seal my floors, before I move into the house. The rep showed up when they were supposed to, but said they were not told about the sealer, so someone would call us to reschedule. The rep did advise that we may want to clean the grout before they seal, as the steamer won't get out all the construction grime. The rep was helpful. Five days later, I had not received a call to reschedule, so I called Stanley. The rep said "You are on the schedule for today, actually." I said this won't work, and no one called me to reschedule. I also asked what product they would recommend for cleaning grout on marble floors. The nice lady didn't know, but said the manager would call me to advise what product is best. Again, no one called. On the day of my 2nd appt, the rep calls to say, "I'm really sorry, but I left the shop without sealer, so we need to reschedule." I told the guy that at this point, I'm going to cancel. I've done the research myself about how to do a deep clean, and I will seal the floors myself. It's laughable how bad Stanley is. All they did is cause a headache, and they never even did the job - on two separate dates! Maybe I should thank them. After doing my own research, I now know how to do the job myself and saved money. I requested full carpet cleaning service (clean, deodorize, protect). I chose a window between 8am-1pm. I took half a day off from work. I received a confirmation. I also indicated it was a high rise. A certificate of insurance is required (Stanley Steemer knows this- it is not the first time I used the service). On day of service at 9:45 I received a text saying technician was on the way. At 11:00 I received another text, on the way. At 12:30 I called and was told the service was for 1pm to 6. I told them about 3 confirmation emails and texts. Story changed-they were on the way. Showed up at 3:10 WITHOUT certificate of insurance and said office closed early and they could not get one. They left. Totally crappy service. Will not recommend or use again. I lost a whole day of work for NOTHING. read more

Called them to remove cat urine odor from a couch. They told me it would be no problem at all. The technician was very nice and professional and two of his managers also came. However, after convincing me to spend the extra money to clean the entire couch because "urine travels" I am left with an extremely stinky couch. I contacted the technician who told me that the tools available to him would not sufficiently get into the area that needed to be clean (in between the fixed cushions) therefore, stanley steemer would not be able to do the job to get the smell out. Been using Stanley Steemer for quite a number of years. I ordered cleaning services for two sofas and my kitchen floor. The gentlemen came to my house and immediately tried to jack up the price!! What was told to us is that the sofas we have is larger than a "normal" sofa and they needed to charge $60 more per sofa. I changed my sofas since the last time we used STanley Steemer but the size of the sofas have been the same. We never had an upcharge like this before!! Then they proceeded to look at my kitchen and said, "your kitchen is bigger than a usual kitchen so we need to charge more as well". So there are no parameters that say what size a kitchen should be and also it does not differentiate the sofa sizes as well on their website. What is the point of having me order the services on the website and then overcharge when they get to our house. To charge us 70 dollars more per couch for protection and almost 80 dollars per couch just to deodorize is utterly ridiculous!! read more

I scheduled service for an in house cleaning for a 5 x 7 oriental style rug. I was told on the phone I could get the in-home service for about half the price of the off-site service so we proceeded. Our window was from 8am-1pm, after calling several times, the team didn't arrive until 12:58, considerably after we were told they were on their way around 11:40am. Upon arrival they said they parked far away and didn't want to bring the machines over, so they rolled up the carpet and said they'd do it at the van. We are still unclear if they laid it on the street/sidewalk or what they did, but it wasn't what we expected. I wasn't home, but when they first returned the rug, my fiancé said it smelled fresh and looked vibrant. They advised it was still damp and needed time to dry so we hung it over some chairs to let air circulate around it. Within a few hours it began to smell terrible so he opened the windows. By the time I got home around 5:30 our apartment smelled like wet, rotten eggs to the point where we had no choice but to go hang it in the garage.
