Though scheduling the appointment was convenient, I feel like they rushed the job. The two cleaners were polite and told me it would take about an hour to finish our three rooms. They finished in about 25 minutes. The one who was doing the work didn't seem to thoroughly soak up the solution (and dirt). In the end, all they really did was get the carpet wet. I vacuumed as soon as it was dry the next morning and the vacuum picked up a considerable amount of dirt, which indicates they didn't do a quality job. I feel like the carpet was moderately cleaned, but I'll probably have to have it done again next year, instead of in two to three years. All I know is that I won't be calling Stanley Steemer to do it. read more

My experience with the Clifton team was awesome. They were scheduled form 8-9am and arrived at 7:55. They walked me through some of there products and made me feel comfortable with the price I was getting. The guys did 2 bedrooms and my living room in about a hour and a half. We were quoted a price of $198 When the job was scheduled. When the technicians came they told us that SS is now a corporation and pricing guidelines have changed. Because two of the rugs are area rugs, they now have to charge by the square foot. One rug cost $200, one cost $158, and the upstairs hall and the stairway, which are wall to wall carpeted, cost $30. The tech also tried to sell us a package for $390 which would give us two more cleanings within the year  " for free ". That would be in addition to the $374.25 we had to pay for today's cleaning plus sales tax. We should have canceled the job on the spot but since the equipment had already been dragged in, dirt from the big yellow hose had fallen on my floors, and the rugs really needed to be cleaned, we did proceed. We've used SS multiple times in the past but this con job made today our LAST time. The rugs look good, but the slimey business practices are totally unacceptable. read more

For several years, I had been looking for a company to clean my leather/suede furniture with no luck. Finally, someone told me that SS does this. The process was mostly professional with a quote discussed over the phone and emailed. And explanations. I had a love sofa and normal size sofa cleaned. They were both green suede leather and hadn't been cleaned since I bought them 15 years ago. They suffered at the hands (or paws) of my cats from accidents plus, over the years, they got raunchy. They're expensive pieces and I was very paranoid about any chemical treatment. These guys know what they're doing and the head guy was very professional. He explained everything and took care to be careful with my furnishings. They did a fantastic job. The price was reasonable at $250. However, I foolishly opted to buy treatment for future spills which was definitely overpriced. Mea culpa. Stick with the basics. My only complaint is that they didn't warn me of the noise that their truck makes. They should have warned me on the phone. Now I get evil looks from my neighbors, haha. read more

I got an online quote from Stanley Steemer for $130 to clean, deodorize and "protect" one room (carpeted basement). The front-office people were very good about calling to confirm the appointment and then calling to let me know the crew were on their way. When the crew arrived, they offered to clean a couch, love seat and recliner that were in the basement in addition to the carpet. We told them no, they don't need to be cleaned, thank you, just the carpet. We also asked them to make sure that they kept the front door closed, as we had pets in the house that were prone to escape. Sure enough, not 10 minutes later, the front door was wide open and there was a guy in the basement cleaning the furniture we'd just told them not to clean! When they finished, the room was soaked and the whole house smelled terrible. They did bring in a room dryer, but they only ran it in one corner of the room, and for only 10 minutes. Then the technician came upstairs, ran up the bill and tried to charge me $270! (Recall that my quote was $130). I looked and the total included separate charges for each of the three pieces of furniture I had specifically told him not to clean. I protested, insisting that I did not want the furniture cleaned, I did not agree to have the furniture cleaned and I certainly did not agree to pay for the furniture to be cleaned. He stuck to his guns that that was the price. So then we pulled up the email from Stanley Steemer showing the $130 estimate. Once he saw that we had proof of the estimate he said "ok fine! $130!" and angrily crossed out the entire work order. He manually re-entered the $130 price into his portable computer and swiped my credit card. But then, when the receipt printed, there was a huge white stripe down the middle of the receipt where all the prices should have been! The guy insisted his printer was broken, and he manually wrote in what I allegedly had just paid. The charge still hasn't hit my card, so I don't know if he really charged me $130 or not, and have no proof either way because the receipt is damaged and he never left us a copy of a signed work order with the corrected price. Now it's 24 hours later and my carpet is still wet, plus it smells worse than it did before they cleaned it in the first place. I complained to Stanley Steemer over Twitter, which their website invites you to do, and never received any response. Some of the worst service I've ever had from a vendor. The guy was so angry that my wife was scared to be in the same room with him and went outside while I tried to sort the bill out. Would never use them again. read more

I will never use Stanley Steemer again! Not the first time I have been ripped off by this company! When I called to schedule a carpet & tile cleaning, I told the woman who scheduled the appointment that my family room is adjacent to my kitchen - that the carpeted area is very small (8' x 10' covered mostly by furniture), but I have a tiled area which is a part of the family room (4.5' x 12') used as a walkway coming in from my garage which leads to the kitchen (12' x 15') She told me I would be charged by the room. When the crew arrived, Cesar (the job foreman) immediately stated that my walkway was considered a "hall" and that I would be charged accordingly. I explained that the woman I made the appointment with said I would be charged by the room, and it was part of my family room. He acted as if I was trying to cheat the company, and this was indeed a HALL! We went back & forth over this for several minutes. I considered just cancelling the job, but there were some stains on the carpet in my family room I wanted to have removed before having visitors. Altogether, the bill came to $224.27 (after the applied coupon) - Family room carpet clean & deodorize: $108 (BTW - the stains & pet odor are still there!), Kitchen tile: $114 and the "HALL" another $40! Do not believe their false advertisements/so-called "specials" - they don't exist! I have a beach house on the Jersey Shore - I had my living room, dining room, HALL, kitchen floor and my furniture ALL cleaned & deodorized for $190!! Just sayin'... Just had my floors cleaned by Stanley Steemer. The guys were on time and I got a phone call they were on the way. It seems that one of the guys was in training, which is understandable being a busy time of year for this type of work. They were very personable. I made the appt online and was able to get an appt rather quickly and in my time preference. When you book online, you get a quote right away. Using a coupon I was able to get the quote under my budget which included 2 bedroom carpets, my eat in kitchen, my 4x13 hallway, and my 3x5 powder room. When the guys came, they told me my eat in kitchen was actually 2 rooms, a kitchen and dining room and my tiny powder room and hallway were considered another 2. I told them I put the information online and the quote was 50 bucks cheaper. I was told they go by square footage but really that's not true because the rooms are so small the quote would have been even less. I moved the portable stuff out of the rooms myself ie. chairs, baskets, etc. The bedrooms have a rug guard by the desks and they didn't move them. Also in the hallway, I have a small piece of furniture, and they didn't move that either. My kitchen floor is a light colored, tumbled porcelain tile and the grout is coming out in many places. The remaining grout is very dirty. They took their time and worked very hard cleaning it but left a lot of water on the tile. As they tried to dry it with damp towels, shuffling with their feet, they left with it still very wet. I've never had that done before. I had to take bath towels and using a mop, dried the puddles myself. They tried to up sell and cross sell products and they did an area rug for an additional $25. After all was said and done, I was $100 dollars over my online quote. They didn't use the coupon either. Now that my carpets dried, the one stain that I pointed out is still there. I like the ease of making the appointment online but if it's going to be $100 over that quote, I'd rather deal with someone more honest, I felt they baited and switched. And I've used other services before which were cheaper and the guys moved the furniture for me and made sure there was cardboard strips under the furniture they couldn't move. I called last minute to have my carpets cleaned for Saturday. I was working from home and decided to call them to see if they were able to come the same day. To my surprise they were able to fit me in the same day. They gave me a window of 12-6. It was OK with that since I called at the last minute. The guys arrived around 5ish. Albert was the main guy and there was another guy with him, do not recall his name. They did a fantastic job. My carpet looks so clean and brand new. I also needed to have my area rug cleaned. They sent that out and it should be back in like 2 weeks. I will give an update on that once it comes back. I have used Stanley Steamer in the past but this by far was the best. I really think it has to do with the technicians they send out. I think I will request this guy next time I get my carpets cleaned. read more

I just had my carpets cleaned yesterday. The last time was only 3 months ago but had some work done in the house and wanted to get some stains out that the workers had made. In August, the 2 gentlemen that cleaned were awesome and I would have rated 5 stars. They really moved the furniture (I cleared out lamps and small furniture) to clean all carpets well and then put furniture back with little protective papers. They were definitely friendly enough but just rushed I guess. Yesterday, the 2 people just cleaned the open areas (& stains) well, but did not move any of the furniture or put protective papers so the furniture wouldn't stain carpets. I was very disappointed, especially since I requested the 2 gentlemen from August. (Felipe & Frank) Maybe they are just busy with the holidays, but when you have them in make sure you check before they leave that they did ALL areas to be cleaned. I learned my lesson. The guys from the Clifton Stanley Steemer were fantastic. They arrived with in my window time. They were kind and professional. They did a thorough job cleaning my couch and carpeting. Previously, I used local guys for carpet cleaning, who were ineffective in removing certain stains. In contrast, the Stanley Steemer guys EFFECTIVELY REMOVED ALL OF THOSE STAINS! I've been telling my friends about my great experience, and now I'm telling you too. I was even pleasantly surprised that they didn't upsell me at the end. It was a very comfortable situation. Recently had 3 rooms and a hallway of carpets cleaned by Stanley Steemer. It was a complete waste of time and money. The same stains were still on the carpet after they were done. They were not as noticible right away but as the carpet started to dry there they were. The carpet was also left quite wet and when I rubbed a cloth over the stains they came up and dirt was on the cloth, so it wasn't as if they couldn't be removed. I normally clean the carpet myself with a machine but was tired of doing the work and figured I would try a professional. Well, should have just done it myself since I had to go over the spots myself anyway to clean them and I would have done a better job. What is the sense of having carpets cleaned when they turn out just as spotted as before. Lesson learned ( they hard way) read more

The Stanley Steemer crew servicing Jersey City is a total disaster. Upon booking they gave us a 6hr window - but would call us 30min in advance. Well, they showed up first thing in the am, without calling. At which point they realize my unit is on the 20th floor (which we specified upon booking a week earlier!). They did not have the proper equipment! - and left. It took 3hrs for them to return. We called the main office, asked for a manager to complain, and the answer was 'our managers are very busy on a Saturday'. Me thinks never again! read more

Bait and switch company. I don't know what has happened to this company. I had used them for years at home and my 22 apartments. I called and got a quote for $165 for up to 250 sq ft of tile to be cleaned. They got here and told me it would be $248. I have an open kitchen with a dining table and chair that measures 216 sq ft, and a bathroom that measures 32 sq ft totaling 248 sq ft. as described at the time of appiontment in order to get a price. They got here and said they don't use sq footage, they determine price by rooms,and said I have 3 rms. I asked what size do you categorize as a rm. (300 sq ft) I was told,and that my open kitchen was 2 rms. They then called the main office to see if my kitchen island would consider the kitchen area another rm. Sq footage is sq footage!! I called another company and they did the job for $170 for the kitchen area and bathroom and another bathroom. "CAVEAT EMPTOR" for sure! read more

This is a review for the Stanley Steamer in Clifton, NJ (no idea why it says I am in San Francisco!!! I am in NJ!). I have used this franchise once before, about 2 years ago, and was very happy with the crew of 2 that were sent out for that visit. They were excellent. This time, however, was just the opposite. I was very unhappy with the results, and will never call them again! I was told I would be called when they were on their way to me (within a 3 hour time frame), with a 15 min window. This was fine, as I knew I might be at my office, but could easily be home within 10 - 15 minutes. I actually got home earlier than expected - good thing because I was surprised to look out of the window and see the Stanley Steamer truck pulling into my driveway - no call - no advance notice. They are lucky I happened to be home. This part of my review is not that big a deal, but could have been if I wasn't home. It also shows no attention to detail, and poor communication between office and crew. Now to the carpet cleaning part of my review. They did a terrible job! I had them come to clean "3" rooms consisting of my living and dining rooms and they said the third "room" was a staircase w/ small hallway. They were in and ready to leave within 40 min. Since the carpeting was wet, I didn't really walk around to closely inspect it, but when I went upstairs to get a check to pay them, I noticed stains on the steps (one of the main reasons I called in the first place) that had not been removed. I called this to the main person's attention, and asked if this was an oversight or of the stains couldn't come out. He mumbled something about getting a brush to go over it again...he did, and those stains were gone. What kind of quality control is that? If I hadn't noticed it, they would have left, and I would have still had those stains. Not once did the gentleman take a moment to look over the work they did to make sure it was done properly. I noticed my dining room chairs were still in place even though the carpet was supposedly cleaned underneath them. I asked why they didn't move the chairs and leave them in either in the hallway or kitchen (something that was done by another company I had in the past) rather than leave them sitting on a damp carpet? The man said, "Oh, ok, how about if I put plastic under the legs". Great, but why didn't he think to do that without me questioning it? They just wanted to get in and out - clearly, they had no protocol to follow - if they were even given instructions - to take the time and inspect their work before asking to be paid. A day later, after the carpet was dry, I looked/inspected more closely. I noticed several areas where spots/dirt remained...in one area, you could clearly see where part had been cleaned but where dirt still remained that the vacuum must have missed. I couldn't believe how terrible this experience was compared to the experience I had 2 years ago. To make matters worse - I gladly filled out the online survey sent to me from Stanley Steamer explaining why I was so unhappy with their services. I fully expected someone - anyone - to follow up (why send out a survey if you don't care about or respond the answers - especially the negative ones)? Surprisingly, no one called, emailed or sent any other type of follow up communication. Not a good sign or way to do business. I am a Realtor and have often given out their name and number to clients. I will never do that again, as you are at the mercy of the current crew, plus, management doesn't seem to care what kind of work was done, as there was no follow up. I actually just called in Advantage Chem Dry in Clifton, NJ, to go over the spots that remained (wanted to see if they could come out!) - and do another 2 rooms - the results were excellent! I used them several times to clean my tiles and in the past they grout comes out looking white like the tiles work is brand new. I used a sealer they sold me also. This time the guy who did the work did a bad job. I told him I was not happy and he kept giving me excuse after excuse. I pointed out a few areas and he said fine ill do it again like he was doing me a favor. Once he did it over the floor came out like I expected the job should be done. The guys who came to clean my sofa and rug were very, very nice and very professional. The office staff is courteous and organized. Overall, however, I am disappointed with Stanley Steemer and I wish I had read the reviews before I booked them. My sofa did not come out clean. I ended up taking the pillow covers off, pretreating them and washing them in the washing machine. They came out beautiful. The steam cleaning was $380 and I did it myself for the cost of some Shout and Gain. The technicians get 10% of the overall cost of the job, so they try to upsell like crazy. First off, I will never use Stanley Steemer again. When you call to make an appointment they are very nice and they really try to make you feel that they are the best and will make your carpet sparkle. Don't believe them. Unless your carpet is barely touched or brand new, don't get your hopes too high. When they walk in the door they measure the square footage to give you the cost of the cleaning. They always over estimate significantly. They didn't even move the furniture and clean under them even thought they told me on the phone they will do so. They didn't even spend 20 minutes in the room and they were out the door. Yes it was cleaner but I honestly could have done it myself better in the amount of time they were here. Bottom line. Don't have high expectations if you call "Stanley Steemer." read more

I used Stanley Steemer (SS) for the first time and was extremely pleased. (I normally use a local business, but I thought about those commercials on tv, checked out SS prices on the site and decided to give them a chance. I am very glad I did. First, the two SS guys, Arkavian and Louis were very polite and knowledgeable and represented the company very well. If you are in the area, I would ask to have these representatives. They had excellent customer service skills. We had three bedrooms, a foyer and a family room carpet cleaned. I showed them the stains that I was concerned about and they were honest in what they told me; some of the stains they would be able to get out and others they told me would reappear. I greatly appreciated their honesty. They did an excellent job. I saw them move the furniture to get to harder to reach places and place the furniture back in its original spot. When they were done with the top floor, they asked me to take a look to make sure it was alright before they moved their cleaning equipment to the downstairs. I felt they were really concerned with my satisfaction and I was; when they were done my carpets looked better and felt cleaner. I really felt like the visit went as described in the video on their website. They really did a great job. Arkavian and Louis were so knowledgeable and polite that I plan to ask for these two Stanley Steemer guys back in the future. In fact, I will probably get my kitchen grout cleaned and will request them. I highly recommend Stanley Steemer, especially if you can request Arkavian and Louis. read more

This is for the Stanley Steemer that is located in Clifton that serviced my property at Belleville, NJ. This is our first time using Stanley Steemer. I didn't get a phone call until they reached my place. When they called they said they are on their way. I asked how much longer they said 10 minutes. They didn't tell me the truth, they were only in front of my place. From the website it says 20 mins per room to clean. I have 6 rooms, 1 stairway and 2 hall ways. They finished all of this in an hour. On top of that I had a "protect" carpet to be applied on 5 rooms and 2 "deodorize" on 2 rooms. How can you do all of this job in a little over an hour. All this cost me about $575 Also there were 2 guys doing the cleaning. One of the guys was using a protection for his shoes overtime he enters the house. The other guy did not use any protection on his shoes (he only did the last 10 minutes of his work). I have used Sears Carpet cleaning in the past, and had better experience. I figured since they advertise Stanley Steemer so much on tv, they might be better than Sears. I was wrong. Too expensive and too fast, not worth it. read more

I'd give 0 stars if I could. These people are useless. I scheduled an appointment 2 weeks ago. On the phone I explained the parking situation in the town I live in and also explained it was a 3 story walk up. The day before the appointment I moved ALL of my furniture into the living room area from the bedroom because Stanley Steamer, of course, does not move furniture. They showed up to my house today and said they didn't have the correct machine with them to reach my apartment from the parking space and ultimately, I'd have to reschedule. They also "weren't sure if the stains on the rug were going to come up". Lazy and useless to say the least!! When I called customer service to speak to a supervisor, "Ruby" laughed at the situation and said no one was available today. Although my carpets where cleaned I would never use this company again. When they came to my home for the initial evaluation they said they would clean under all the furniture and TV stands. After they finished the job I went around my home to inspect. Not only did they not clean under any furniture they then informed me they do not clean under any furniture where there are electrical wires, such as under the TV stands. Interesting how the story changed. After I pointed out that they had not cleaned under the beds, couches... they went back around and and took care of it. I was very disappointed in the final result of my hardwood floors. After I decided it was okay and paid them to get rid of them, the one man came back in with a cloth and spray and poured it on my hall floor and wiped it every which way. I thought it would be okay but after it dried, it looked murky and almost like nothing had been cleaned. It was not worth the money I paid for it. I will never recommend this company to anyone. For the $99.00 special I got one room and 2 small hallways cleaned......kind of a rip off. When I scheduled the appointment over the phone, I was told that the 2 small hallways were not considered a room and that the cleaners would be able to do at least part of another room. Well of course when they arrived they said the 2 very small hallways (which are connected in an L shape) were considered a room.....are u kidding me and of course if I wanted anything else done it would be an additional charge. They cleaned the room and small hallway in under 10 minutes.....fairly new carpeting so not much of a difference. Probably would never use them again.....too expensive and were trying to push some other things to purchase when they were at my house.....didn't they rip me off enough already. read more

DO NOT RECOMMEND. If you value your property do NOT entrust to these people. They picked up my expensive rug in November 2017 and returned it damaged. The colors were spilled into each other and looked really really bad. The manager Danny Gorgonio came to pick it up personally and ensured me that he will address it. It took 8 weeks after my endless calls and emails to get the rug back. Only it was further damaged!!! Danny and team lied consistently, played delayed tactics in order to try to rectify the issue, but the end result was the same - the damage was irreversible. They further delayed sending it to the claims dept. It was only after I filed a BBB complaint at the end of March 2018 that they sent it. I am still waiting! I still have no rug - 5 MONTHS!!! I will never use Stanley Steemer again. I set up an appointment with Stanley Steemer to have the grout cleaned in my kitchen, hallway, and laundry room. The price quoted over the phone was $327.42. However when the two men arrived to do the job, they came in & asked me when was the last time I had my grout cleaned. I replyed that I had never had it professionally cleaned. They kept reinterrating that they couldn't believe that I had never had it cleaned although I had lived in my house for 14 years. They asked me how I would feel if it didn't look that much cleaner after they did the cleaning. I said I would be disappointed. Well they replyed, the only way the grout would look clean is if they covered it with a coat of paint after cleaning. I asked how much that would cost. It would be an additional $500.00!!! REALLY. Well, I opted not to and I must say that my grout does not look much cleaner than before they came!! What a racket! read more

I have to agree with sandy the guys were on time I got a call confirming they were on their way however they try and up sell saying certain things are not included I did the 2 rooms for $99 deal and ended up coming in at almost $200 when they left. My room sizes were under the size it said on the internet so i figured i was good for the $99 deal however nothing was included the extra money was for stain remover and protector thought that would have been included And then maybe because I was a woman I had to tell then to do it again because the first time they did it it was still dirty. They said it was because it is high traffic area but when he did it again it looked so much better. I would not use them again especially because even though one guy was really nice to me and profession the other guy looked down at me.
