We were in Denver for 2 nights, wanted to get a quick men's shave/cut. The amount of barbershops in Denver is honestly insane. We tried calling a couple but due to Covid, the schedules are funky, didn't get through. We asked the receptionist at the hotel we were staying to find us something, she said she found a great place, highly recommended and made an appointment for us. It's located in the Independence Plaza, beautiful and central. Turns out that Stan, the owner and the barber has 2 more locations and has been cutting hair since 1982. He is absolutely adorable!!! Fun fact, he also cuts some famous Denver folks hair, not gonna mention, don't want to get him in trouble, after all, hair cuts and shave is a personal matter. Stan is so friendly and knowledgeable. The whole experience was just fantastic! Further more, he gave us a special blade to take and use at home! He works with a lot of care and attention and he is jazz fan! It's a win win! He is a true professional, and a very nice man. You'll do yourself a favor if you try him, it's an experience worth having. read more

One of the best, if not THE best, barbershops I have used. I am a summer resident of Denver, and after having my hair cut at Stan's, by Stan, I found myself more satisfied than all the other barber shops I have used when I lived in New York City and during my winters in Tucson. Not that I do not get great haircuts in Tucson, but they are not "The Stan." First, I was not told, as I have been so many times in NY and LA, "Your haircuts suck; your last barber didn't know what he was doing." There is no ego at Stan's and no trying to get your business by belittling others. They are also not going to tell you what you need unless you ask them to do that. They will, as all barbers should, ask what you want and will follow your request while asking, as they are working, "Is this OK?" And, I believe, though I have not asked Stan, that when you go in and request "The Stan," it is not a particular cut. "The Stan" is a procedure that involves great listening skills and great customer skills so that the customer gets what he/she wants, along with great hair-cutting skills. And, while they sell hair care products, they never even mentioned it to me; there was no upselling. The products are there on a shelf in the waiting area (Independence Plaza), and if you want to buy something, you ask for it. No pressure to buy from them. When I first got a haircut by Stan, the clippers came out, and I was a bit concerned, but the clippers were used just to get my hair to the length necessary to start the scissor work. If your haircut requires all clippers, the barbers there will use all clippers. If it requires scissor cuts and razor cuts, they will use those tools. All you need to do is ask; great customer service is the name of the game here. If you do not know what you want, suggestions are offered, and their ability to have you walking out of there feeling great is outstanding. Aside from all that, the shop is exceptionally clean and very comfortable. Stan himself is a real professional, a great guy, and a great conversationalist, as well as an extremely skilled barber. Fortunately for those who live closer to the Golden Triangle than downtown, Stan is opening a shop in that neighborhood as well as his three other shops downtown. I would like to bring Stan back with me to Tucson when I go back for the winter, but Stan is very dedicated to and proud of his Denver heritage, and he loves being here. Made an appointment as my regular barber cnl on me sick. Getting an appointment was easy, they quickly called back to move my visits to the independence location. I came in for a beard trim with razor edging. The beard trim was edged with what I think was a bic. The barber educated me that he knew I booked a straight edge but he doesn't use those as they are unsafe. Regardless when I got home and saw how bad the line up was I ended up shaving my face clean. Had to start over to get rid of the bad lines created with that bic. On top of this I had a wedding the next day. Felt very naked and afraid with out my beard which I've had for the last 10 years. I got a beard trim and haircut with Russ today and can confidently recommend him to anyone looking for a safe, great haircut. Upon arriving, my temperature was taken, and I was given hand sanitizer to use. Throughout the entire experience, Russ was great about ensuring we were both safe, keeping masks properly on and using a face shield while doing the beard trim. Stan was very helpful when we abruptly walked into his shop asking for two women's haircuts. Unfortunately he was completely booked and was unavailable. He was very kind, helpful and a problem solver. He called three different people and allowed us to get in at a neighboring shop. For the 10 minutes we were in their we noticed the shop was very clean and professional. He had very nice decorations, it smelled nice and he stuck to a theme. The music was also professional and provided a comforting vibe. Stan himself was an absolute sweetheart and even showed us a shortcut to the neighboring store!! If we are ever in need of a haircut in the Denver area we will certainly be returning and recommending to our friends!! read more
