I'm sorry to have to review this but Stan is not a painter. Said he was a painter, I have had several paintings before and nothing like this! He quoted me 1600 to 2000 to paint approximately a galley kitchen and 3 average walls with 2high ceilings. He said he would have someone help him. said it would take 4 days. He was also doing doors and trim. When he came the next day he was alone. During the course of the 8 hrs he was to work he left twice the first day worked a half a day the Second day. When came the. Third day he said he had to leave early again. That's when I told him finish the walls and forget the trim and doors and go! I Had to tell to him to-paint the wall twice because first coat did not cover and he still didn't do it right! I had to get someone else to finish up! He even had the nerve to say he should have charged square footage the second day he came after he already quoted me. He's a nice Man but not a HandyMAN! Had to clean paint off of floor and fireplace Maybe he does other work better on other things and I'm sorry I had to post this but very upset over the end result and the additional cost it cost me and stress read more

I called Stan to remodel my home office, and he came out the same day providing an estimate. I ended up hiring him and the work he did included, repainting the walls, ceiling, install new floor trim and door casings, plus some sheetrock work. His prices were fair compared to others and he even picked up all the trim from the supplier about 20 miles away. Great work, would definitely use again. read more

Nice Guy...we needed help with Mom's (80 year old) house. Thought he'd be the ideal local trusted source for that help. Paid him more than he quoted to hang a storm door, because, well 80 year old houses frequently present challenges during repairs...and I am mindful that a persons time is valuable, and it took longer to accomplish than anticipated. Not quite completed, Stan was going to return to install some trim, that needed to be modified, and seal the door frame... Nope...no Stan. I did get him to return the piece so I could complete the project, so points for that. I found the new door jamb shimmed with cardboard...so, it's a "do over" at my expense. Stan came over the following day just as he said after about 15 minutes of examination he told me what caused this bathroom floor damage and what it would take to repair as well as an approximate time to finish . I found his estimate and time very appealing . I hired Stan for the job, he did exactly as he said charged me exactly what he told me the charges would be and did a fantastic job. Stan seemed like a nice enough guy, and he showed up on time to provide an estimate. I had a whole punch list of repairs to my house of varying size, and while Stan didn't entirely grasp all the issues, he seemed fine to do the less complicated jobs. He gave me a good estimate, and wanted to wait to do the work till the weather improved. I was in no hurry, so that seemed fine. I called him a few weeks later to schedule a date, which we did. That date came and started to go, with me waiting at home having stayed home from work. No call from Stan. I called him, and when he answered he told me he's in the middle of another job. It appeared he had completely forgotten our appointment. He was distracted and told me he would call me back to schedule another day. I was annoyed, but I've found it unbelievably difficult to get a handyman who will return calls, or show up, or actually perform work, so I said ok. And then of course he never called me back. I'm guessing he realized the estimate he gave me was too low and blew me off to take more lucrative jobs. But his actions in both failing to show up, failing to call, and failing to call back to reschedule were unprofessional. read more

No work done. Stan came on Sunday and gave an estimate to repair a door jamb after a break-in, which I accepted, and told me he would be able to get to it Tues or Weds. Today, Weds, I called him, he said he was about to call me... that he could call me Thurs or Friday and let me know about doing the job this weekend. And, he would have to get someone else to do it. Stan is unprofessional and a liar. I DON'T recommend him on any level. If you value someone who would be respectful and trustworthy, find someone else for your handyman needs. I called Stan to repair a set of fallen vertical blinds for my tenant. He initially quoted a price, work unseen, and subsequently proceeded to quote a price that was $60 higher after seeing what was needed. In trying to understand reason for the increase in cost, Stan responded as follows: "I gave you a free estimate. If you want a procedural break down of requirements, material etc. then it will be more. I think I have spent enough time on this job already (he hasn't worked on anything yet) and I'm too busy so you should find someone else to do this job. Sorry I couldn't help". He then lied to my tenant by telling her that I told him not to show up because of price. I did not. Stan is not worthy of your time and effort if he can't be honest in his business practices. read more

Excellent service!!Stan came out after I called him late. My mom's ceiling fan was sparking.My mom's house is an old Chicago bungalow with old wiring. I would highly recommend Stan as a handyman is you are looking for someone honest, reliable, professional and excellent at his job. This is hard to find as many people handyman charge very large fees and I found could not even fix the items Stan was able to fix. Stan was able to envision what needed to be done for each item that needed repair and some items were not that easy to fix. Stan's Handyman service is simply the best. I had a tricky, very heavy wood Murphy/Wall-bed with tons of parts/pistons/mechanisms that had to be fully taken apart to fit in a tiny freight elevator. (stress level high as it wasn't meant to be fully taken apart.) The bed then had to be installed on an older building plaster wall. VERY, VERY, VERY pleased! I found Stan on Craiglist. Not only did he pick up the phone (a rarity in these days) but he called me back when he said he would and even had text capability (great for someone like me who usually doesn't have time for a phone conversation). He came out on the day he said he would. My husband was given the duty to stay and take care of things and when I got home, he couldn't stop talking about all the stories Stan told him (hehe). Stan found out my pipe in the kitchen was not as easy a fix as I hoped it woud be, and has not saved me from a future flood (unlike my bathroom which a few years ago I was too late to save). He even drove to the store and got a whole new pipe for me. I was also surprised by how clean everything was. Usually, whenever someone comes over to fix something, I spend at least half the day cleaning up and repairing the bumps and stratches they make. Perfectly clean here and no bumps or scratches. This is my first review, but in the past 24 hours I have gone from having a nightmare project to having the problem resolved. I called Stan at 8:30 pm on a Tuesday night. Wed at noon, he and one of his crew were at my condo to complete a project that was too much for me (removing water-damaged hardwood floors and subfloors in my hallway and bedroom.) Very poor service! He brought a helper, who basically did almost all of the work. Stan charged $45.00 per hour for his labor (basically standing around talking and smoking cigarettes) plus half ($22.50) for his young helper...total of $67.50 per hour...not a totally unreasonable price if the work was done well. Unfortunately the work was very poor. The first day he charged me for five hours...they were only at my home for four hours. He left the job incomplete, promising to return in a few days to complete the project. When they returned the following week, he said he wanted to start our next project rather than finishing the one he had begun last week, opening up a wall and leaving a mess. He said he would return in a couple of days to complete BOTH jobs which were left unfinished. He never returned or called! I left several messages (not returned), and when i did reach him twice, his excuse was that he was "busy and intending to call and return soon". I'm still waiting!!! read more
