I had called multiple roofers because I was having an issue with water leaking into my living room. None of them though could give me a definitive answer as to what was causing the issue and would therefore not perform any guaranteed work to fix the issue. I asked all the roofers if they wanted to cut into the ceiling but all insisted 'we work from the top down, not the bottom up'. I contacted Wall Eye to see if they would cut into my ceiling so I could perform an investigation into the issue myself. When David came by I got A LOT more than I expected. He not only did a great job of making a clean cut into my ceiling, he then took the time to take a look at the damage inside the ceiling, go outside to take a look at what was above the leak, and go upstairs to take a look at the window/roof above the leak. Before he left he told me 'I'm not a roofer but if I was to bet, your issue lies either with the seal around your window or the portion of your roof right above it". After David left I contacted another roofing company to come by and give their opinion of the issue (now being able to see inside the ceiling) and they stated they believed the issue was the EXACT same thing David did. The roofing company said they were so sure that this was the issue (based on being able to see inside the ceiling) that they were now able to guarantee the work that was done. The roofers have since completed their work and I have not the issue since. I am sure there are dozens if not more drywall contractors out there who can cut a hole or patch a hole - thankfully I was able to find one though who went completely above and beyond what was requested and/or required - David is a true 'class act' who I will never hesitate to call for any drywall work I need done in the future. read more

I had called two other places before I called David. One was booked until mid-August and the other never returned my call. Here's how my experience with David went down: 9:30am: I call, talk to David, and explain my dog flipped out during a storm and took out a chunk of my wall. He asks me to send over a photo for an estimate, and lets know me he'll be downtown anyway, so can stop by if I'm free. 2:15pm: David comes over, and works his magic. The hole in my wall is gone after 30 minutes, and he's re-painted over the work. 3:30: DONE! You'd never know that it was torn up, and it took less than 6 hours from initial contact to get it done. So I was having an unusually hard week. I'm about to move after 3 years of living at the same place, so the stress of moving, in addition to getting stuff done at the new place - which had been a nightmare - and all this in addition to my day job. So in summary a pretty bad week, which was made terrible by having to deal with the most difficult ineffective people. I needed to have a dry wall fixed at my current apartment that I was moving out of ASAP and called onto the powers of yelp to help me out. I called David because of the great reviews - and my cynical self is still in disbelief about the whole experience. Here's why: He was extremely nice on the phone, picked up the first time I called. On describing the damage to him, he gave me a very professional quote range and was nice enough to accommodate my request and work with my very short timeline. I sent him a picture of my damage and measurements of the damage area and he gave me a very reasonable quote. On the day of the work he came on time, worked very well with my building requirements to get his stuff in and started work. Even after inspecting the damage he did not add on any hidden fees and really stuck to the quote he gave me - which was such a new experience! (No hidden fees..whaaa??) At this point I was starting to think, OMG I wonder what else is going to go horribly wrong today because this whole dry wall thing was turning out to be too easy! He did the work, quick and so professionally. He even explained what was wrong behind the scenes with my current wall and why it gave away so easily and really did a STELLAR job! After the work he cleaned everything up and left the space absolutely spic n span. In addition he didn't even charge me for parking (which can get expensive for downtown Chicago)! I had HVAC ran in my finished basement and the HVAC crew left a lot of holes. I patched two of the small ones myself but realized I neither had the tools or skills to patch large holes in the bathroom and laundry room. I gave these guys a shot and could not have been happier. Not only did they use quick drying dry wall mud so they could do the entire thing in one day, but even if I look really hard with a flashlight, I can't tell where they patched the holes and where the normal ceiling drywall is. Honestly I can't recommend this team enough. Stellar job for a decent price. We also spent a good 20 minutes comparing and contrasting good vs bad paint for different surfaces and conditions (high heat low humidity vs cold with high humidity, etc). I'll definitely hire them again to fix any drywall problems or do painting. read more

I contacted David because I needed drywall repairs after electrical rewiring. I took photos and got a quote. I let him know the condo assoc work guidelines. And so it was agreed that David was to come on the following Monday and take 2-3 days to complete. I had scheduled a painter to follow since I needed to have the walls done, then painted, then kitchen installed,.everything was on a tight sequential timeline. I got an email from David a couple of days prior to Monday, and he said that he didn't think that with the condo work time rules, he would be able to finish with out having to charge he more, so he was backing out. From my perspective, I had been very clear on the rules and so I talked to him to talk him out of backing out, since if he backs out at this time, I'd have to scramble to go through the quote process. Finally I talked him out of backing out. He came on Monday, and after leaving to get materials, patching 4 holes, taking the whole day, he packed up his stuff, and when I talked to him later in the day, he said he's not going to be able to continue, because it was too difficult, and the time it would take to work with what the electrician did would take longer and he'd have to charge more. He said the electrician did a poor job, but did not go into details on what was poor about the electricians job. The electrician I had used was vouched by the condo assoc's building engineer, so I told David to call the electrician. I put my electrician and david in touch, and still David said he was backing out, only with the reason that it was going to be difficult and he'd have to charge more. He said he'll charge me for materials and his time there. I just got a bill from him for patching 4holes. I had to call the painter to cancel, and funny thing: The painter was trying to help me out and he told me that he knows one drywaller but that he had worked with him a while ago and have not since because that drywaller bailed on the last client. He wouldn't recommend him but because I was in a bind I could try. And guess what? It turned out that it's the same David from Wall Eye!! I had to scramble to find another drywaller who ended up doing a great job and charged less. Overall, if the going gets tough, David is.not going stick around, he will leave you high and dry...you can try and talk him into staying...but don't, don't even bother, unless you have a very easy job maybe.... read more

My neighbor's (above me) water heater broke which resulted in a lot of strained and rusty water leaking into my condo. There were two primary areas that were damaged. In my hallway and my master bedroom closet. Mold also immediately started to be visible on the drywall within a few days. I called three companies that offered drywall repair and all provided bids. I found all of them on Yelp and all were highly rated. The conversation with David from Wall Eye over the phone was extremely helpful and we spoke again after I provided him with some photos of the damage. He explained the options and costs estimates. Not only were his costs very fair compared to the other bids, but it was clear that his primary interest is getting the job done effectively without creating any unneeded or unnecessary work. I decided to move forward. Upon arrival, David examined all of the damage and discussed his thoughts with me every step of the way. Then, he provided options for the repair and made his recommendation. His knowledge and the level of comfort he provides is superb! I was very glad I had selected Wall Eye. David started the work. I also asked David to paint all of the damaged areas and luckily I had most of the paint that was originally used when the condo was built 16 years ago. Unfortunately though, some of the paint no longer existed which is where David's knowledge of paint and ability to get me an exact match on 3 of the 4 paints and a 95% match on the 4th paint was amazing! I was blown away. David's work was of the highest quality and I was so happy with him that I asked him to repair a few spots in a bedroom ceiling in my basement and paint that as well. He even was OK with my neighbor providing a check for the damage that he caused and me providing a separate check for the additional work he did in my second bedroom. While I believe this company does stellar work on small/minor drywall repairs based on the reviews I've seen here, I think its worth being noted for future Yelpers on here that Wall Eye does not do drywall installation for new construction houses. I work for a small real estate development/construction company that builds new construction single family homes in North Chicago and surrounding suburbs. I called Wall Eye (David) to get an estimate/bid on an upcoming project. He immediately responded that he was not interested in these types of projects requiring bids, and to remove him from my list. First and foremost, I don't have a list. I'm the company business administrator, not a telemarketer cold calling. I would not have called Wall Eye except the company is listed in the directory under drywall installation and repair. It should just be listed under drywall repair. Furthermore on a customer service note, as a business owner you should be aware that anyone calling you could be a possible customer so maybe you should not be so quick to dismiss a caller based on assumptions. Just so happen in addition to my companies needs, I have a brother who just purchased a home in need of small drywall repairs and I myself need to get my ceiling drywall repaired in my own home due to water damage. After living with a hole in the wall for over 8 months due to my own klutziness (I grabbed onto a drapery panel to stop myself from falling and ended up pulling out the entire bracket from the wall--and still fell anyway!), I contacted David.
