I visited the store in Merced, CA on Thursday, March 30, 2022. The store was clean, well organized and easy to navigate. I was able to find a couple of frames for my glasses. I will be trying progressive lenses for the first time but was assured that if they didn't work for me, I could come back and do an exchange and get single lenses. The Brand Manager (I forgot her name) was super helpful and patient with me. I'm looking forward to getting my new glasses in about 2 weeks. read more

Very unpleasant experience. It seems as though the employees are inexperienced, hopefully because the location is still new. But I called for a contact exam. First problem, they scheduled me on a day the eye doctor for contact exams was not in.. so I rescheduled. Then, the doctor seemed very rushed and asked me more about my previous prescription than she seemed to know. Was told the order should be in within a week. It wasn't. I called 2 weeks later, still the entire order was not in. I come to pick up the partial order I have and realized a day after using the contacts that they mislabeled the contacts for my right and left eyes. Also had a bad experience there dealing with my sisters eye glass exam. I will not be returning to any Stanton optical. read more

I took my son in to get some glasses today, and the doctors visit went quickly and smoothly. Choosing frames can take a little bit of time, plus there is a 20-30 minute wait for your glasses BUT you have to physically be in the store in order receive them in that time. I'd prefer to wait minutes rather than weeks, but I found that a little odd. Overall it was a positive experience, my only regret is not asking more questions about how pricing and coverage work, especially after reading some of these other reviews I think we got a great deal. **With great coverage insurance we paid very little, but I was later informed that if one does get an eye exam and you do NOT need glasses your exam is $99 regardless of insurance which also sounded off. My advice is to tell them exactly what you want to spend and look at your options before even getting the exam. -2 stars for the odd rules and price change on exam read more

Best experience!!!! They were knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable. Shopping for glasses can be overwhelming and they have a wide selection. Ask for Jorge. He picked out glasses that were reasonably priced and/or covered by my insurance. He also went out of his way to find the style I liked and what framed my face. Interesting experience. Optometrist is remote so it is a "virtual" appointment in that regard. The technicians in the store are knowledgeable and friendly and the appointment process is efficient. They have a large selection of frames but they are quite flimsy. My prescription was made wrong the first time (they made the lenses for distance rather than reading). When I went to pick up the new glasses they were expecting me to bring the frames which I didn't have because I didn't accept the first pair of glasses. They pulled my frames off the display case and had to do some machining in the back room to get the lenses into the frames. They don't do any true "fitting" like you would get at an optometrist office in terms of checking and adjusting the fit on the nose pads and/or the part of the frames that touch your ears. As long as they don't fall off, that's good enough for them. read more

Never again. I learned more about the quality of their glasses and the value of their guarantee AFTER I bought a pair of progressive lenses than before the purchase. Before: SO: "Have you worn progressives before?" Me. "Yes." After: Me: "These glasses are horrible, the lower half has such a distortion on the sides they make me sea-sick just moving my head." SO: "We'll check the focal point and re-grind the lenses." They did. The replacement wasn't much better. SO: "Bring in your old pair so we can compare." When I returned, it was outside their 30 day guarantee, so I was basically out of luck, even though I complained inside their 30 day guarantee, but was not offered a refund. The did, however offer to accommodate me. They pointed to a small notice on the countertop that indicated their progressive lenses had the distortions on the side. They suggested my previous glasses used American made lenses that were much more expensive, and if I could find my old pair, they could check it out, and I could pay more for the kind of lenses I thought I was getting. That notice on the countertop about the distortion on their progressive lenses wasn't pointed out to me before I bought the glasses. So, they waited out their 30-day guarantee period, and I could spend more money there to get glasses that I could use. Nope. I'll go back to 20-20 Optical in Fresno and get a good pair of glasses at a fair price. The ones I got from Stanton? In the trash. They're so bad I won't even donate them. The lab that they use made the wrong perception twice the third time I had to pay waited a month to be told they broke lenses and it would be a week more ... very unacceptable. Deceptive practices at this place of business. I called to make an eye appointment and person stated $29.99. When I arrived the guy in the white coat (what a joke) said I could not go in back to my appointment until I picked out frames. He wanted me to pick two for $250. All I wanted was an exam. He stated that the price changes if I did not purchase frames and lenses. Bait and switch technique. Buyer beware!! Atmosphere: Really like the corner location, but parking is limited and you have to walk around to the door. Customer service: Both times I've gone here, the employees are really nice! I've met the manager, assist. manager in training, and a store associate. They tell you what is best with the glasses quality, give you recommendations according to your prescription and don't force you to purchase anything. I understand that this is a business and a goal is to make profit, but I can see that they do their best to give customer a good discount. Eye exam/Glasses: Apparently, they have doctors on site to do eye testing (not sure if they're on site or if it was through Skype as some customers have said). I had a prescription so this wasn't needed for me. The test is not free as stated on ads, but a $30 fee that will be credited/taken out of your glasses total in the end. They have a variety of very cheap plastic glasses to good and top quality as well. Overall: Good experience! Will definitely give this place another chance! read more

Never had such an horrible experience. Set up my appointment a week ago because I was told over the phone that the exam would be $29 which i only want the exam for the printout. Perfect for me. I get there for my appointment to get told the exam by itself is $99. So i take a moment to look at their "value" frames that are for the 2 for $59. I seen better frames at the 99 cent and only store. They were the ugliest, cheapest looking things. I call customer support after leaving pissed off. Get told they are not sure why they said it was $99 and should have been only $45. Call back to Stanton and get told that it is guaranteed to be only $29 for the eye exam only. Go for a second appointment just to get told they had not received a call for this and just to be shown again that is only if you are buying eye glasses. I ask how much for the exam alone, they now say $95!!! The representative at the store then states this, "Alot of people do the $59 deal for throwaways and use the prescription to get the frames they want somewhere else." Why the hell should anyone have to spend their hard earned money to throw away frames then pay for more frames else where? Maybe try selling a decent product and actually care about your customers instead of scamming people into easy money. read more

Store with their advertised special two glasses for $69 I left with a pair of glasses and sunglasses for almost $400 my glasses were very cheap in a few months that eyeglass part started peeling when I went back in they told me I would have to pay more money so I passed. I just had a very rude customer service earlier today. Either the guy couldn't here me or was just being plain rude. I asked for an eye exam and he said "what? I should have read the reviews for the other Stanton Optical in my area. This is a new store and it seems no one knows what they're doing. The ads in the paper are just to get you in the store. Then they charge you for EVERYTHING. I was in for 3 hours so they waved my contact lens exam charge. But 3 hours?! They keep saying, "It's all new technology for us." Well everyone should be trained in it before opening. But ended up paying over $300 for everything else. There is no actual doctor in the building. Everything is over a Skype type computer screen. Yup the whole exam is done over video. Word of advice, go to target and get your exam and then buy everything else online for WAY cheaper. read more

Ridiculous customer service. Came in with a friend to see about a walk in contact exam, we were told oh wait we can't do the exam because we do not have a doctor in today. We would only be able to do an eye glasses exam, as it is done by an online doctor. Another guy then came over and said we have a doctor in training. And then another guy came by to make an appointment for my friend and went on to say that we will have a doctor in on Friday. The day of, my friend got a call saying we need to cancel the appointment as the doctor isn't in today. It would have been fine and dandy to an extent but honestly, if the store isn't fully functional and the only optometrist you have in the office is an online doctor then the office really shouldn't be open. Can I give this place ZERO stars??? Wow, I have never been as disappointed in a business as I am with this place. When I called to book an eye exam appointment for my husband, the guy was SO incredibly nice. When we actually showed up to the place, everything went downhill: 1) I immediately recognized a majority of the staff from the AT&T kiosk in Merced Mall. 2) The girl who greeted us started telling us to start picking out glasses before the exam. Uh, how do you know if he's even going to need glasses? Is this even an eye center, or is Stanton Optical just in the business to sell glasses? 3) You can tell that staff is not knowledgeable about their product or the profession AT ALL. Every question was followed by "uh", "um", "I'm sorry, I'm not sure", "I don't know." So why are they even employed here?? 4) The wait was horrible. We waited around for about an hour, despite the three above red flags. An elderly gentleman was sitting in the living room and told us he had been waiting for almost three hours, and he was only waiting because he "had nothing else to do anyway." As we decided to leave, we asked if there was even a doctor present, in which they responded... (see next item) 5) ... that there is no real doctor. It's some kind of machine. One of the girls even called out, "Are you sure you don't want to give our digital doctor a try?" And wait three hours for a MACHINE to exam your eyes? NO THANKS! The fact that there is no real optometrist should've been communicated when I asked questions while booking am the appointment, and it would've saved us time. 6) The manager (?) kept going outside to talk on his phone, despite customers/patients complaining. When we left, his employees were looking for him! Who does that?? Also, I need to point out something else that I found to be very unprofessional: the dress code or lack of. I understand women have different body types and can wear what they please, but pants should not so tight that they are stuffed up your rear. One of the Latina employees showcased her crotch and backside because her white pants were so tight, paired with a tight shirt to reveal cleavage. I'm appalled that she is actually allowed to dress like that for work. I see all kinds of women in all different fields and I've never seen one dress like that at a location of business. Stanton Optical, please give your staff proper training before dealing with people's eyes. Please don't pressure them into picking out glasses if they don't want to. Please inform customers of real wait times and let them know it's a digital eye exam. Also, please advise your staff of appropriate professional attire. read more

Do not come here. They are scam artists. I don't know how anyone can work here. I never complain on yelp, ever! But this company is awful! I was told I was going to get refund on the 29th which was yesterday and now they are telling me they never said that! Please please do not come here! What they put me through made me feel sick to my stomach I spent 417.00 on two pairs plus 29.00 for eye exam. Now I probably won't see my refund... please pray that I get justice! And please do not come here.... An update on my situation. I got my refund after 3 weeks. I called corporate to ask why I hadn't received my refund. And mind you I spoke to the same guy that helped me that promised my refund. His name is Isaac. He told me he never said that he would give me my refund. He was lying. My biggest issue was the HIPAA law violation I had to complain about. The promos are just to get you in the door. Their 2 for $69 options are limited to maybe 10 pairs. I left spending $429 for 2 pairs of prescription sunglasses. I made it clear that my prescription better be right when I pick up my glasses. I will not accept anything subpar. I can't believe how terrible this office here in Merced is and would never suggest any of my friends go. First of all we bought the living social coupon for my daughter at $28.00 and that covered for up to $150.00. I paid $60.00 for the optometrist for two and they don't have a REAL DOCTOR. ITS RECORDED and the two people that work in that part act as if they are optometrist by wearing white coatsthen after picking out a lower price frame and only had single lenses I still payed a extra $160.00. Only giving 1 star because I had to choose one... This place is terrible, I have a Senior father who is in his 80's...he called an Uber to get there because he doesn't drive anymore...he went all the way there from Atwater just to get his glasses tightened because they are loose and was turned away because he bought them over a year ago! We called a Stanton by where we live in Manteca & asked them if that was their business practice and was told it is not...if you bought them there they do minor repairs to them regardless of how long ago they were purchased! All they needed was a tightening. Pretty disgusted! Here goes an elderly war veteran, who can't see to tighten them on his own (because in order to do so, he has to take them off) that uses his very limited income to pay for a ride there & back...putting himself at risk being out and about with Covid-19...elderly, with existing health issues only to be turned away! I am an Essential Worker, who will now drive the hour +, after my Essential shift to go tighten, something that would've taken them 3 minutes to fix. I had no idea what to expect when I went into this business. I haven't had my eyes checked in a long time and felt like my eyes needed to be checked from all the time I spent on computers and other devices. From the easy appointment setup to all of the friendly people, I had an amazing experience. I liked the way they used technology to enhance the experience. I needed to have glasses and they absolutely hooked me up!! I should have paid way more than I did but they made it happen for me. I resent my lost my glasses and was in desperate need for new ones. I looked up Stanton to schedule an appoint and was able to do one right away. I do a lot of bad reviews and that frightened me. However, it was mostly complaints from people who did not read the policy. I went in for the 2 for $59.95 promotion, hoping there were no hidden fees(there weren't). I was quickly greeted and checked in by staff. I was told to pick two pair that had blue tags, as the tagless glasses cost more. The selection wasn't that great but for the price I dare not complain. I was able to find two pair I liked and began the exam process. Having a skype-esk exam was unconventional but seemed very thorough. They went straight to work on checking my prescription and filling my order. I was walking out with two new glasses within 20 minutes post exam. They are perfect and I couldn't be happier. The free eye exam was a trap to get your money. You will not talk to an in-house professional. Technically, a person on the screen will do your refraction. No one to consult with. All the people at Stanton Optical do not have the answers to questions an Opthalmologist can give you. They suck. They cannot answer a simple question. They just want to milk you. I paid $300 for cheap type of glasses just because of the free eye exam inducement. When I said to cancel the glasses, hence the transaction, they said I already used the time of their doctor on the freaking screen, and even if I don't take the glasses, I have to pay the FREE eye exam. So, I am stuck with their stupid scam. read more

The worst place I have ever been only went because it was announcing on TV free eye exams! They're not free you have to buy glasses then they credit you. Had problems with my glasses there is a film coming off one pair of glasses u you touch the lens with your finger and it feels crusty. Do not go here. We were not told that there is no actual optometrist in the office. He does the appointment remotely. Then we waited for over 2 hours after our appointment time and we decided to leave. The lady at the counter got defensive and said let me call the mtg. When he came, he was nice. He refunded my exam fee that we were charged when they advertised free exam. Then he thanked me for not getting loud/citrate with the staff. Seemed as if that's what they are use to. read more

I've been going to Stanton Optical for years and I love them! I just went there and I wanted the special for $59.99 since I'm paying out of pocket. I didn't want to pay anymore than that and I walked out with 2 awesome glasses paying that price! I love their value brand! Really cool shapes and colors!
