Was in last Thursday to update my prescription, received the wrong prescription and a surprise diagnosis of glaucoma!!! Which I found out when I was checking out by the sales rep handing me a sheet of paper to release my records and be referred. Received my contact lenses and they were completely wrong. Went to the specialist today and I have no evidence of glaucoma what so ever, and they gave me the correct prescription. Updating review to one star. I specifically went to them for an eye exam to get a number for the DMV. That was a week ago. They said it takes 3-5 business days. I called 3 business days after my appointment and they said it should be ready soon. I called again today and they said the request was just put in 2 days ago. it's amazing how one person changed a rather pleasant experience to one of the most negative experiences I have had professionally in a long while. Though the doctor and techs in the back of the store were kind and competent , the sales team up front could use some work with decorum. The young lady that dealt with me was rude and dismissive. First & last time I come here. The staff isn't knowledgeable about anything. I asked a lot of questions before even getting started and all the answers I was getting were lies. The most important question was if I would be able to get new glasses the same day because I don't live here but I was in desperate need of new ones. I was told they have a lab in store so I would be able to leave with glasses within an hour after I check out. I went 4/24 and It's been DAYS, days now ! They have quite the selection of frames to choose from. They've also got really good customer service. I've been going for years and never had a problem. They're a wee bit pricey but they have so many promos and plans in place that it's not even an issue. I'd say it's worth it. read more

The eye doctor was great, however the eye exam cost me 258.98 and same for my husband because I decided not to get glasses there. Do not go unless you read the fine print. I am still kicking myself at my eye doctor I usually go to is only $100.00 for eye exam and can take my prescription to wherever I choose to get my glasses. DO NOT GO . Every one ran behind the counter and acted like he wasn't there...he never talked to anyone just look at frames waiting on someone to come and talk to him no one acknowledged him ... He even heard one guy saying he didn't want to deal with him... So he left and as he was getting in the car he saw everyone come back on the floor...there was 6 employees there and everyone avoided him... Stanton Optical is NOT a place I will ever darken the door again!! EVER!! My husband and I had an appointment, showed up early - filled out appropriate paperwork, and the eye exam receptionist took us to a room with the eye measurement machine, glaucoma test etc. I was perplexed... however that wasn't the strangest event of the appointment. She then spoke into a darkened room and asked if the Dr. was ready and then she led me into the darkened room. (My husband was taken into the room beside me when I was having the glaucoma tests). The receptionist then told me where to put my purse, sit and placed the metal "eye glasses" (optical gear) in front of my face and the said "Ok Dr. we are ready". The Dr. popped up on a TV screen on the wall and spent maybe 5 minutes on my "exam". My husband was still in his room when I came out - however, he said he was unable to see some of the letters through the "optical gear" and mirror on the wall and that definitely doesn't trust the prescription that was given to him!! Me either I said!! We called back as we drove home and continued getting upset by this weird experience, we were told by the assistant manager, April (worked 6/5/2025) that we could come back Monday @ 4:45pm, see a doctor at NO charge. Fast forward to Monday. I got a call & and voice message from Stanton Optical that said they see my 4:45pm appointment, they were hoping we could come in earlier because the doctor is all booked up. Husband got off work early, I called to make sure that the appointments will be free. Guess what? I was told that we would have to pay $65.00 each for tests that we already had done in the previous appointment, but because we weren't charged and our insurance was - we would have to pay or we COULD NOT see the doctor!! Scheduled vison test for 8-8, went in greeted and checked in almost immediately. Staff friendly and techs were professional. Eye doctor was friendly and professional. However, after the exam is when trouble started. Picked out frames and informed frames are in stock and lenses were not a problem, informed to come back in and hour or two and glasses would be ready. Went back after 5 hours and informed they meant to call me but were so swamped they were unable to. Glasses will not be ready for 3 - 4 days, today is 8-13 still no glasses. Not sure how they would be ready in two hours but days later still waiting............very disappointing, may want to stay away. Update from 8-13, called corporate requesting local manager give me a call to discuss, nothing from manager, called local office requested to speak with manager but busy, would call me back, again nothing! Recommending another place as I am out money and glasses with no response from local manager, disgrace. read more

I recently had an eye exam at the Spartanburg location and I was extremely disappointed! First, I made an online appt and arrived twenty minutes early which is fine, I didn't expect to be seen early, I just usually arrive early. Appt was @ 2:30, didn't get called back to the first exam room until 3:15. That literally lasted two minutes tops. They sent me back to the waiting area for fifteen more minutes. During all this waiting, the placed was packed, maybe 4 employees total and 1 doctor there, everyone running around looking confused, angry, or just completely unbothered! I then was called to a room, where my Dr gave me an exam via zoom.....this exam consisted of him showing me two slides and asking me better or worse a total of 4 times....thats it. No questions, nothing, said thank you and logged off. They came back and told me to go wait again on my prescription to be ready. I didn't want glasses or contacts or anything but my exam. I waited 25 more minutes!! Finally, got my prescription, then she pretty much told me my insurance REQUIRED I get the contacts so I said ok whatever. She goes to the computer and inputs an order, processes it, grabs me one sample pair, I paid and left. My boxes were mailed a week later. Never once, did we discuss a brand, my preferences, NOTHING! I was livid and my exam and contacts total was $510, insurance covered all but $140 Thankfully. The service was extremely poor, the exam was all of four minutes, and I don't believe my prescription is even right and the contacts she choose SUCK! They are scammers! They took my money for the glasses, took the insurance money for the exam, there wasn't even a Dr present (it was a telehealth). I was told 2 weeks. 3 weeks go by and I was told it would be another week or more by the service girl. I called customer service who tells me a month. I go back to the store and they tell me my glasses were actually lost! I ask for a refund and they want to take $25 for the eye exam out of my glasses payment refund. So no glasses and no full refund. I am still waiting on my refund and it has been 2 weeks. They are thieves!! read more

I went for the first time and my exam was all of 5 minutes. No joke. I am older and really thought I would have my eyes dialated like I always have at other places. The girl that checked me in said they can take my insurance but when I checked out the other girl said no. We chose Stanton because of their radio ad for "2 pairs for $79". Our vision insurance is absolutely a joke, so the 2 for $79 was attractive to me as a cheaper alternative. The staff was nice... but after they directed us to the ACTUAL selection of "2 for $79" - it was mayyyyybe 20 frames in total. And they were ugly frames. I wish I had taken a picture because it was such a joke. We walked out, simply out of principle. It was deceptive marketing and I don't appreciate that at all. And outside the store.. their WHOLE window was covered in the advertisement of "2 for $79". I've been to Stanton 2 years ago and it worked out well... this time was a bust. I went in today, August 6th, because one of my cats destroyed my glasses several months ago, and I really really need new ones. Stanton's advertising insists that "walk-ins are welcome." That's not what I experienced today. Front desk gal was nice, if a bit hard to look at. She directed me to someone in the back room who would check me in. I went back there, and was told, after some delay, that they were "triple booked," but she could fit me in tomorrow. I'm not there tomorrow, I'm there TODAY. And what idiot triple books? You have X number of slots available on X day. It's like having one chair but telling three people they can each sit in that chair, but the chair holds only one ass at a time. If your appointment setter is "triple booking" you, then you need a smarter appointment setter. Either that or you're incredibly greedy and are in need of customer-service training. There weren't enough people in there to support the "triple booked" story, but I had no intention of driving to that location again for an appointment. There are other games in town that will actually welcome a walk-in customer (and who actually plan on a certain amount of walk-in traffic). And now that I've read some of these reviews, I'm thinking that I may have dodged a bullet. read more

I went here for a scheduled eye exam to submit to the DMV for my renewal. I was not in the market for glasses. I was pretty much ignored by all staff members. They had no common courtesy at all. And they kept trying to push me to buy new glasses, even shaming me like I was trying to get a free exam, which I wasn't. My visit was based on our experience several years ago at the Stanton location in Greer. I paid almost $1,000 for two sets of glasses with progressive lenses, which was fine. They were very professional. Not so in Spartanburg. I don't have to name specific names - they were all terrible. After I left, I was telling someone else about my debacle. They responded by saying that Stanton is the worst place to go in Spartanburg. We'll never darken the doors of a Stanton Optical again. I should have walked out as soon as their mistreatment began. I am so disappointed I have had problems after problems with my glasses. The lens peeling off. I go to put in my contacts and realized there all expired boxes from a year ago. Who gives customers expired contacts. My glasses have been adjusted and they still are crooked and fall off my face every time I look down or turn my head the glasses fly of my face. Smh... I am so angry. I just went to Stanton Optical and the woman popped the lens out of my glasses and dropped it on the table to demonstrate the difference in polycarbonate lenses. I was just staring at her, not believing she was doing that to my only pair of glasses. When I put them on on the way home I realized the lens is sticking out the top and bottom and there is a big scratch in the middle. I called and they said nobody did that. I am not a confrontational person, but I am so freaking mad. I told them to look at the cameras. Every store has cameras. Plus she lied and told me eyemed had changed coverage for me. They hadn't. Everything about this place is wrong. From the receptionist you check in with for the exam (she was overheard saying she was sick of working every weekend and she was going to quit to someone while on a call) to the eye doctor who clearly has issues.. Anger being at the top. (he told me he was doing the best he could with the equipment they gave him to work with), I realize now that I should have turned around and left. The employees where the frames are located were much better. Helpful and friendly, it made me feel better about the beginning. Then I expected my glasses to arrive within 2 weeks and be perfect!
