If I could give Southern Eye 10 stars for their high quality care and patient-centered approach, I would do so. For over10 years I have seen Drs. Heitman, Hack and Williams for complex eye problems. And in every case, at every visit, I have been struck by their kindness, compassion and their extraordinary professionalism. All the staff have treated me with that same consideration. I have friends who have gone there for years--and all say the same about their doctors and their experience. During my last visit, I mentioned to Dr Williams that I had recently told a friend that if I ever need us spirit lift, all I'd have to do is stop in Southern Eye! The worst place in Greenville to get your eyes checked. The whole place is rotten to the core. They milked my insurance for money without any results. They lied to me about my condition and they promised a surgery they couldn't deliver. They told me surgery center went out of business... like I am stupid. Was referred by my medical doctor after being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. While filling out the intake paper work, there was a statement agreeing to be charged directly for a refraction test that would not be covered by insurance. I was not being seen for glasses or contacts so did not sign it as I did not want the test. I was informed I had to sign the statement even if I didn't want the test. I called their office to see if I could have a doctor look at my eyes because I am experienced a redness and itching. This was not checked on my recent appointment due to oversight. The receptionist,or whoever answered the phone told me that I should get some eye drops and recommended Renew. I asked her how she can prescribe these over the phone without the patient being seen. Dr. Pace after two surgeries has my right eye bleeding throughout the day. Maybe it was this or that but my eye is a bloody mess. Pace is leaving Southern Eye and I had to find out through another eyecare that he made a referral with. Paying for two surgeries, time off work, pain he didn't even have the courtesy of letting me know he was leaving. Now I'm gonna have to have another surgery to fix the previous surgeries. My wife and I went to get glasses and sunglasses for her. The young woman we dealt with clearly stated that we had 60 days to return either or both if she was unsatisfied. The glasses prescription was off, and the sunglasses were blurry. When we tried to return them, we were told she could only have 50 percent back. We are now out over $300. I am a nurse and I recently had some concerning visual symptoms. I knew these could be symptoms of a serious problem and I was terrified. I did not have an appointment and I had never been to Southern Eye before but I walked in and was treated kindly at the front desk. They listened to me and worked me in. This I appreciated so much! Then, I was seen quickly by Austin, who was very caring and professional. Kylie later also worked with me and was very sweet. Scott Mogavero immediately put me at ease. He took a lot of time examining my eye and explained exactly what was happening in depth. He shared images of my eye with me as he explained the issue. As a nurse who questions everything, I appreciated this so much and was reassured about the symptoms. Thank you Southern eye for working me in. Beware! They do not verify insurance because of the patient volume. My husband has new insurance and we verified that they accepted it. My husband and son went to them as new patients in April 2019 and while the doctor was good, it took three weeks for my son's glasses to come in and my husband never got his contacts. That's totally unacceptable. They blamed my son's insurance for the delay on his glasses. The doctor he had last year got his glasses in a week with the same insurance. We learned today that they don't take my husband's insurance and we got stuck paying $150! Still no contacts! Make them verify your benefits and make sure they are in network with your insurance! A very bad experience with their billing. Went in for an eye exam because of diabetes. Everything looked great, eyesight was fine, no glasses needed. Then they asked if I wanted a refraction exam, not really knowing what that was I said yes. Well Medicare does not pay for that so now they say I owe $45.00. Why in the world would they even suggest this when it is only done to measure for eyeglasses or contacts. They knew I did not need this exam. Shame on them. Another way to get money out of a senior citizen who cannot afford extra charges. read more

BEWARE!!! I had a regularly scheduled maintenance checkup; I normally paid $100 per visit. When I checked out, they wanted to charge me twice the price, 340 SOMETHING!. They claimed they did the same service as before but did not charge me the first time. I told them I expected the same charge as I was not told anything different. Every time previously I had called in to make sure what the charge would be for cash pay; it essentially was close to the same almost every time I went in previously. So I walked out and told them to bill me after having a disagreeing conversation with their upfront desk manager. After that, a couple day later, I get a call from the DOCTOR HIMSELF, DR. REARDON!!!, asking me to take down my bad review. I explained my side, he his, also adding I was literally trying to catch a plane at the airport runway to which he simply ignored and kept talking in a persisting manner to get me to take down my review; he offered no price adjustment concession; NOTHING.....I find it really odd a doctor making calls on reviews. Really disappointed at the upcharge without any notice. I won't go back here. UPDATE: this morning; 10/11/19, I receive a certified mail delivery from Southern Eye, again, Dr. Reardon himself, that they don't want me back as a patient. LOL. I already stated that; so I'm not sure why they are bothering me now. It seems not only did they treat me wrong but then they are petty as well. See attached letter. I took my Mom for an appointment this past week. The receptionists were pleasant and answered my questions. Only waited a short time and was taken back for testing. Dr. Hack's assistant did the majority of testing. ( I feel bad I do not remember his name.) He was very professional, patient, and thorough. We were then taken back to another office. Dr. Hack came in reviewed the results and did his own testing. He is a great guy and I highly recommend him. He did a great job and shortly there after we left with her prescription. He is extremely pleasant and explains procedures and course of treatment very well. Everyone is extremely nice and more than willing to help you if you look like a lost puppy dog. Called back the next morning and still no response even from their Emergency Triage. Finally got in 19 hours later at 10:30 and got the bad news about my eye. I have been going to Dr. O'Dell for years and my kids go as well. Have always been happy here but this year I was having a few hiccups with them regarding ordering my lenses and my bill. I was getting very very frustrated as I talked to many different people in the office over three months and could never get anyone to listen to me. I was just about to give up and find a new eye dr home when I reached out to Tia, the office manager. I thought it would be a waste of time but figured I'd try. Tia listened to me, made me feel heard, called when she said she would and quickly solved all the problems I had. I asked her who to speak to to tell them she did a great job and she said no one, that's her job! What a great attitude! She saved me from having to find a new place for my family. They are expanding and I think may be having some growing pains contributing to some issues but in the end, I can overlook this knowing they have an office manager who cares about their patients and goes out of her way to help. This office has phenomenal people from the receptionist to the techs to the Doctors. I was impressed at how the flow works so efficiently. I would definitely recommend SEA for anyone needing a eye exam . While we were waiting a super sweet lady handed out cold water and crackers for those who wanted it . They also have a free charging stations for your phones . The verdict was definitely glasses but the ladies up front took the sting out of it by presenting me with beautiful chic frames at a reasonable price . He recently recommended scleral lenses for me and I received them today after having a custom pair made for my eyes! I have never seen this amazing my entire life! I called for a first appointment and was told there was a wait due to an overload of patients. I explained my symptoms and felt they were serious and indicated a retina detachment. She immediately switched me to anorher staff member and after listening to my symptoms and asking a few questions she told me to come to their office that day. I arrived later that day and was treatrd like I was someone special. The first exam was a general eye exam. She explained everything she was going to do and answered all of my questions. She then took me to another staff member in his exam room. He was expecting me and called me by my name and took the time to explain the test he was going to do. After the test I asked about some of the testing equipment in his room and he took the time to explain each piece of equipment and what it did. He even demonstrated the piece of the equipment he used for my test and let me look at my own retina. That was beyond the call of duty. He then escorted me to another exam room where another staff member was waiting. I received the same courteous treatment during the exam. Afterwards she took me to a second waiting room and told me to wait and the doctor would see me shortly. In five minutes my name was called and she led me to a long hall where a group of people were standing at the far end of the hall. As we approached the end of the hall I realized it was the doctor with his staff waiting for me outside the exam room we were to use. No waiting as usual in any other doctors exam room for the doctor to arrive. He and his staff were waiting for me. After the axam one of the staff took me to the next office to make an appointment to see him in ten days. This staff is one of the main reasons they are so busy. Other offices could learn how to do a better job by visiting Southern Eye Associates. I certainly would recommend this office just because of the staff even though the doctors are equally excellent. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. William's for many years and feel that he gives me excellent professional, very thorough, and caring service every time I see him. I have had a retina detachment and macular pucker and he carefully monitors me and adjusts my glasses which is difficult due to my condition. I have excellent vision with my glasses. You can tell he loves his job, is always happy, and is dedicated to serving his patients. Dr. Williams and his assistant also travel to underprivileged countries and do cataract surgeries which changes these peoples lives. This further shows his compassion for what he does.
