I cannot say enough good things about my experience here. I am ADA and finding appropriate hotels with accommodating team members can be challenging. The whole team was incredibly warm and inviting; the location is truly perfect - right near haight/ashbury; across from Golden Gate Park - (not to be confused with the bridge which is another part of town), and walkable to many other areas of SF such as the Castro and Hayes Valley. I lived in SF well over a decade ago and for some time and it was great experience to have stayed here upon my nostalgic trip. They have a HH Service with a nice setup and wines to gather and talk and meet people. I highly recommend! read more

Editing my review: I found a toe nail clipping in my room and informed managed and asked for a cleaning. When I came back after being gone for 10hrs it still wasn't clean. We stayed here for an extended time due to back and forth visits to UCSF. We found everything to be amazing! Everyone who works at the Stanyan Park Hotel took the time to make sure that we were comfortable, and went above and beyond when we had some specific needs. Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet. The walk to UCSF is very doable if you don't mind a hill or two. The fact that it is right across the street from Golden Gate Park and a block away from Whole Foods also contributed to this being a perfect location. Nice place in a good location close to Golden Gate Park and The Haight. Common areas are pleasant, well decorated and clean...and our room was decent, albeit very small for the price. No coffee in the room, so be prepared to get your coffee and continental breakfast downstairs. The staff was just ok...not particularly friendly or professional, but that may have been due to heavy bookings for the holiday season. I think we would shop around more online before committing to another stay in the future. However, if we end up here again, it would be fine...though we would request a larger room. read more

We needed to stay in the Richmond area, and there are limited options. We chose the historic Stanyan and it proved to be a very good choice. The renovation they did is beautiful, especially all the photographs dotted around the lobby and floors. It has a very good feel. Things are very old in the rooms, like the fixtures, but everything functions nicely. It was a cold night, like so many in SF, so we had to order an extra heater as one of the two baseboard heaters was not working well. That worked out nicely. I wonder if the room has AC? I didn't think to check, but you should. The bed was great and the shower was hot. We had a corner room that was larger than most and had a great view of the park across the street. They had breakfast in the morning but we did not partake, we needed to book to the train station for our return train to Menlo Park. Excellent staff on our entry and exit. If you like historic Hotels and need to be in this area, Stanyan is the place to go. read more

We received this reservation through Airbnb, so we were expecting a residence and not a hotel. The hotel is nicely appointed. However, we had no hot water. The front desk individual on 12/17/2024 and 12/18/2024 was UNRESPONSIVE to the water issue. We expect hot water at the very least. read more

Stayed here due to the proximity to UCSF. First on Wednesday night and then again on Friday night. First night we stayed in a two queen bed room on the first floor, which is technically the second floor. The room was clean and comfortable. We were right across from the skate park but due to the rain it was very quiet. Road noise was as expected for being in the city but calmed down around 11. We brought our own dinner from down the street and sat in their dining area. It was perfect. The second night we stayed in a two twin bed room that was on the first floor as well. Room was clean and very quiet as it was tucked in the back of the hotel. The beds were very comfortable as well, some of the best hotel beds I've experienced. Each staff member was very kind and helpful. Enjoyed a few items from the complimentary breakfast in the morning, mostly pastries and yogurts but great when you want something easy before heading out. It was a perfect place to rest while our family member was recovering from surgery and with its proximity to the hospital we were very happy. Hopefully we don't have to visit UCSF under the same circumstances but if you do, I recommend the Stanyan Park Hotel. Cute, quaint and full of very cool history. read more

From other reviews I see my experience is not unique. Sean at the front desk was extremely unprofessional. He mishandled a straightforward package delivery, despite it being clearly coordinated and confirmed in advance with his colleague, resulting in significant issues for my mother. Instead of taking responsibility, apologizing, or offering a solution, he deflected with excuses. When I asked how we could resolve the situation and prevent it from happening again, he claimed he didn't want to be "berated"and abruptly hung up, even though I was simply asking for an apology and a path forward. For what it's worth we had booked a very expensive two bedroom suite and are checking out tomorrow as this level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable. read more

The room was filthy. Behind the dresser, the legs of the bed and the heater under the window were caked in dirt , dust and cobwebs. Thwre was a bug running around my bed!! The breakfast isn't worth getting up for. It's a pity because the building is beautiful and in a great location. I had stayed at Stanyan Park Hotel several times in the past and had a great experience. But on 5/14/23 when my family and I stayed at the hotel while my mom was having a 12 hour surgery at UCSF, we returned to our room that night after a long day and our room had not been cleaned. When we opened the sofa bed there were rodant droppings in the sheets that were on the bed and the sheets were soiled. We called the front desk and were offered to change rooms as it was late and we were tired. Our family was given 2 rooms. One of the rooms had what appeared to be urine in the toilet, obviously not cleaned. I again spoke to the front desk and was advised to contact the manager the next day. I called several times and left messages but my phone call was never returned by the manager. read more

I can't recommend this place more. I have stayed here under poor circumstances, with a family member in care at UCSF and for enjoyment. No matter the circumstances this hotel is comfortable, convenient, helpful, clean, accommodating and reasonably priced. True, sometimes it's not the quietest place to stay. But the ease of walking, transportation, location and amenities make up sounds you could expect in any central city location. The breakfast and evening reception are sincerely so confronting. Looking for a hotel in Inner Sunset or Haight Ashbury? I love this beautiful hotel! It is so warm and welcoming. The little breakfast in the morning is delicious. The beds are comfy. They are generous with amenities. There is a Whole Foods a block away if you need anything. The gorgeous Golden Gate park is right across the street. I will never ever stay at this place again!!! We booked two nights there for New Years Eve and New Years Day; we checked in and initially loved the suite, it was old and smelled a little moldy but that was to be expected with an old building. Typically, when we check in at a hotel I do an initial inspection where I would check the sheets and bed out but for whatever reason this time I didn't. The room seemed so fancy, with chocolate on the beds, even though our bed only had one (more to come one that), and everything, I thought for sure this room was clean and free of pests. It was my husband, our three kids and I. We drove in from Washington that day and despite being a little tired from all the driving, we were excited to be there. We had dinner in the neighborhood and at 9:30 we got an Uber to the bay to see fireworks. The evening was almost perfect, we had so much fun watching the fireworks for NYE and by the time we made it back to the room it was about 2 am and we were so ready to hit the sack. My son and youngest daughter crawled into bed and my husband and I were just about to when we pulled the sheets back on the bed and noticed foil flakes under the pillows, like a wrapper had been torn to tiny pieces...and upon closer inspection we also noticed rodent poop and short thick gray hairs. This is when we realized that the room had rats and they had eaten one of the chocolate candies left on our bed (when we checked in, we thought it was funny that the other beds had two chocolates and ours only had one). We freaked out and I told my kids to get out of their beds so we could check them out and sure enough, the bed my son was sleeping in also had rat poop and hairs on it. My husband then went to the front desk to let them know. We were offered two much smaller rooms but because they didn't have any roll aways available there was not enough room for everyone to sleep in a bed and someone would have to sleep on the floor. Which, in light of what we just experienced, was not ok with us. The manager on duty didn't act surprised when we told him about the rats and he never once offered an apology. When we demanded our refund he got very condescending and made a comment about how we will never find anything at that time of night in the city. There was no way we were staying another second in that hotel. We eventually found something 30 minutes outside the city and ended up staying there instead. It was not a good start to our year. Had management been more apologetic we probably would have stayed but because the guy was a jerk, we will never go back or recommend anyone stay at this place. Honestly, it was a good reminder as to why we stay clear of SF. Rats! Tons of them! read more

I have never written a review but the stay and treatment at this hotel was unbelievable. This is the dirtiest hotel I have ever stayed in! On Wednesday, August 16, my husband and I arrived after a very long international flight. We had a two night reservation. We were stunned when we walked into this room. The carpet was beyond filthy. We went downstairs to speak to the gentlemen at the desk. He said they were sold out for the night. Tomorrow, we could check out in the morning and recheck into a new room. Because we had been going more than 24 hours and it was evening when we arrived, we decided to just stay. When I looked at the room in the daylight, I also noticed the bloody blob on the dust ruffle. We are grateful that the bathroom was up to standards. Needless to say, we did not sleep well that evening. At 7:30 in the morning, we came downstairs to check out. A young girl (now at the desk) said the hotel was booked. We stated we were leaving and went to a lovely and clean hotel. We booked the hotel room through hoteltonight.com. We called them to ask for a refund for the second night. Hoteltonight.com refused to give us a refund even though the hotel did not have a clean room to put us in. We will never stay at the Stanyan again nor use hoteltonight.com to book a reservation. read more

I LOVED this vintage Hotel! It's at the end of the Haight so you're close to a lot of interesting shops and some great food. The staff were all super friendly, the rooms and the lobby were clean as well. I was surprised to see how big the elevator was, typically in older hotels the elevators are really small. We stayed during the weekend so we missed the wine and tea reception that they have during the week in the afternoon but we really enjoyed the continental breakfast they had in the morning. This place is located in a great area, but there is no parking garage specifically for the hotel so you'll need to find parking nearby. There are a few parking lots/garages within walking distance. We were lucky and found street parking a few blocks away but street parking is only 2 hours I believe during the week. We had a room with a queen sized bed. There is no air conditioning, but hardly anywhere in San Francisco has that. There were windows that we opened to let the cool air in when needed, we were never uncomfortable. There is a heater but we were there in the summer so we didn't need to use it. I loved the wallpaper and the bed was very comfortable. I highly recommend the Stanton Park Hotel if you're looking for a place to stay in San Francisco. read more

Bedbugs in this hotel: We stayed in room 101 on Tuesday 8/8/23 and my daughter woke up with 13 bites. I took her to the doctor when we got back home and it was confirmed it was bedbugs. I spoke to the manager who insinuated that it couldn't be true and then never called me back as he had promised. We liked the hotel but this was really disappointing service and I wanted people to know to at least inspect for bedbugs in the rooms you stay in. read more

The location of this place is the biggest selling point. It is within walking distance of the Botanical Gardens and the Academy of Sciences (about a 15 to 20 minute walk). The customer service is ok, the main sticking point was that we had a question and called down to the front desk (a few times over a span of about 30 minites) using the in room phone and nobody answered. It wasn't a pressing issue, but then we called using our cell phone and they picked up right away. We got a small room which had a queen size bed, a small bathroom (with a toilet paper dispenser that was about 3 feet away from the toilet, a couple chairs, a table, and a TV. I would have appreciated a fridge in the room, but I guess it wasn't super essential since we brought a cooler and there was an ice machine in the lobby. Since the room isn't that big I think they could ditch the giant dresser that took up a good chunk of walkway space. Who unpacks their things into the dresser anyway? Rooms are dated. Carpets are stained (though obviously vacuumed). The only way to cool your room is via the windows, which is fine, but they lack screens and with young kids that made us uneasy. There is a skate park nearby and people skate randomly through the night, which can be loud if you are facing it with the windows open. There is no parking lot devoted to the hotel, so you have to park in the Kezar lot about a block away. It's $25 a day and I didn't have trouble finding a spot during the week. Overall the innards of this place need a face-lift (steam vac the carpets), but the location is great if you want to save money by walking. Rooms can be a bit cramped if you don't book a large one. Honestly we probably won't be back, it just wasn't for us. read more

This is a cute little hotel right across from Golden Gate Park. There is no hotel parking but there is a decent public lot a block away. ($25/24hrs, in and out). We stayed in their Double Deluxe room. As people have said, it's clear things haven't really been updated in a very long time - the chairs and carpets in the room were stained, but you could tell they had been cleaned and vacuumed. When we arrived at 3, check in time, our room wasn't ready. They said it wouldn't be ready for another 45 minutes at least, which for us wasn't a huge deal but might be for others. They kindly stored our bags, and we headed off. Per COVID, all the cute extras they advertise on their website are canceled (no wine hour, no coffee or tea available). They did have some prepackaged snacks for check in hours, and my daughter was happy to munch on a bag of pretzels. This would be nice to know prior to booking a trip, mostly because I get up early and like coffee early. I ended up walking the half mile up to Starbucks for my 5am coffee. The location is great, right by the park and Haight St. Breakfast is still available but you take it back to your room. It's also basically just very small pre-wrapped pastries, or cereal. We paid $190 for the night, but I don't think it's worth much more than that for sure. read more

First: The good. It is a charming hotel. My family and I stayed in a two bedroom suite over Thanksgiving. The suite was like an apartment. It had a fully equipped kitchen that we used to make Thanksgiving dinner. When we arrived there was a small gift basket filled with cookies and snacks. Everything was clean and housekeeping was great. The staff was friendly. The location was wonderful. Golden Gate Park was across the street. This is where the two star review comes in. I booked this hotel in the summer and the confirmation email stated an amount. After check out when I got home I looked at the receipt. It was almost $800 dollars more than the initial reservation! I called that day and the receptionist said just email them the original reservation and they would take care of it. I did. I heard nothing back. I sent another email. Crickets. I had to have Amex do a chargeback. We're not talking a few dollars but hundreds! It's too bad because I definitely would have stayed there again. read more

Stayed here for our 47th wedding anniversary. My wife used to rent a bike to ride in Golden Gate Park in the late 1960's, from the store next door so this was a nostalgia tour. The area was in quasi COVID lockdown so Matthew was very helpful in finding restaurants that had indoor dining. Great location for a walking tour of the area, lots of restaurants close by and convenient parking within a block at a public lot at a reasonable rate. Room was clean and overlooking Stanyan Street, and with no loud night time noise. Fun place to stay at a good price. read more

The Stanyan is GROSS hotel. They are gross in upkeep and character. I attempted to book a room there for my Aunt. She had surgery at UCSF at 5:30am the following morning. I booked from Florida and sent an email ahead along with special comments and requests that she would be alone and be by herself. I asked that they take care of her and contact me if the charge needed to be validated or they needed anything. They never acknowledged the email. They gave her a hard time when she got there and as she had me on FaceTime, she stated that the place smelled of heavy fumigation and she saw the room they wanted to put her in & there were stains. Not suitable in a COVID-19 situation plus she had major surgery the next day. I refused to fill out the authorization and stated she will not be staying there as it didn't meet standards. They sent me a cold email not even acknowledging the inconvenience or even apologize for the experience. They just very coldly said, "we are charging you for one night stay according to our policy." They tried to get me on cancellation, I booked the same day and within hours refused to authorize upon seeing the property and the smell reports. They said they couldn't validate the reservation because it was in someone else's name and they needed an authorization sheet to make the charge, yet when I refused the sheet and the room, they were able to authenticate the same charge? How so when I specifically said I REFUSE AUTHORIZATION? I will never go to this hotel or recommend it. These people are soulless and lack common decency and sense. read more

I stayed for two nights because it was near my daughter's apartment. The room was very small but OK. The view from my window was of a wall outside. The toilet paper holder was mounted so far from the toilet, I couldn't reach it (embarrassing). There was no coffee in the room or lobby and the breakfast area doesn't open until 7. I came from the east coast and was awake before 5. The location is great and the bed was comfortable. However, the front desk attendant this morning was pretty rude and seemed annoyed that I interrupted her while scrolling through her phone. Don't think I will stay here again. read more

My brother was having brain surgery at UCSF, so I booked a suite at this hotel for us to stay. I booked my stay from their hotel, which takes you to a third-party booking tool (eurobookings/Expedia), which I thought I was still booking through the hotel. I did not get an email with the booking confirmation. I had to call several times to finally locate my reservation. The Monday before his surgery, it was canceled and needed to be rescheduled because of his MRI. It was a non-refundable booking, and I asked if I could move it to a different dates. I was told by eurobookings that I would need to provide dates to move it to, in order to request the change. We don't have a new date yet for the surgery; in an effort to not lose $1,300, I gave a couple of dates in Dec. I received an email today stating that my request could not be accepted. I would not recommend staying at this hotel; they obviously do not have any empathy or any customer service, let alone good customer service. read more

When you first step into the Stanyan Park Hotel, you get the feel of stepping back in time, from the victorian architecture, to the antique furnishings. Our first interaction with the front desk staff was a little odd, when they were frantically trying to find out if our room was ready, but it worked out fine after 10 minutes. Our room was clean, I still can't figure out if the baseboard heater is working (yes a baseboard heater) and the room is pretty small, with little space to put toiletries, I guess this is how it was over a 100 years ago. They offer many freebies and I love freebies. They have a morning breakfast, afternoon tea time and an evening wine and cheese social. The location is great with no onsite parking, but there are lots of street parking nearby. It's across the street from the Golden Gate Park, minutes from UCSF, half block from the famous Haight Street and Whole Foods. A couple perks there is no smoking allowed on the property and free wifi. I'm rating 3.5 stars. Nice vintage hotel, bed wasn't the most comfortable, nice stay but not blown away. Thank you to staff and management for making my stay at the Stanyan Park Hotel so welcoming. They went over and above to help me through a tough time, and were both professional and friendly. I needed to be near UCSF off and on for more than 7 weeks. I've stayed in almost every room configuration except the suites. All beds were comfortable. Some rooms have street noise (well, you're in the city) and thin walls (it's an old, HISTORIC hotel). I wasn't bothered by either. Perfect location from both UCSF and St. Mary's hospital, and across the street from Golden Gate Park for head-clearing walks. Only one street away from Whole Foods and a complimentary shuttle stop to GG gardens and museums. The complimentary continental breakfast has a variety of pastries, cereals, yogurts and fruits. Rude rude rude. My mom is coming to visit, so I called to inquire about a room today. The lady on the phone said she had a Superior room available. I said that I was interested, and asked about the Yelp special offer advertised above, the one that says "Become a fan on Facebook and receive 10% off!" After putting me on hold for a lengthy amount of time, she came back on and said, "Yelp and Facebook is false advertising, we do not offer any discounts." and she also said that suddenly there was no room available after all. Oh, yeah. SUDDENLY there's no room available, when you just said there was. Yeah right. By the way... UMM... Yelp and Facebook didn't put those special offers up. YOU DID. Then she abruptly hung up on me as I was about to ask another question. What the deuce! Each room is different which gives it class and character. The hotel is in a great location. It is reasonably priced. The Staff are very friendly and very accommodating. The rooms are clean, the bathrooms are clean with nice towels, and most importantly the beds are comfortable and it is very quiet. I have stayed here twice and each time I have enjoyed my stay. I like to open the window a crack for fresh air and get the breeze off the ocean and GG park, makes for good sleeping weather...
