So I was standing in line behind this woman waiting to be helped. The gentleman behind the desk asked the woman not in the line standing off to the left if she needed help. Before asking us and we were in line about 10 minutes. Why the preference is beyond me. Needless to say they got their passport photos done before we did despite being here 1st. That's weird, that's suspicious. To make matters worse the whole time we stood in line no one asked us if we needed anything at all. I went to Staples to recycle items on the staples recycling list. You do get credit that transfers to points and cash discount against future purchases. The cashier did bit go through the items in the box but instead said I will give you 15. I had over 50 items in the box. My perception is that recycling was an annoyance to her. . A different cashier stepped in and told me (I think his name was Tre) informed me that it was my responsibility to count the items before I came into the store. When I said that is no where on the recycle list all he did was tell me that he didn't write the recycle list and told me I should change it. As a representative of the store we should not be discussing who designed a paper. We should also not put expectations on customers without any communication. read more

I always feel the need to compliment excellent customer service in a world full of criticism it's nice to be able to accentuate the positive .... I went to Staples after work on Saturday It's never a good idea to shop anywhere after work ! I'm usually exhausted but I really needed to get something copied for an occasion ( the copy also came out perfect ) Any way ....I browsed around a bit picked up a few unnecessary things and went to check out ....I only had a 100 bill , the cashier said it was not a problem but when she opened her drawer she only had one 20 dollar bill the rest were 10's and 5's ....I offered to use my debit or a smaller bill , but I needed the change any way so we proceeded with the 100 dollar bill a voice in my head told me loud and clear to double count it ....My exhausted want to get off my feet body said I gotta get home !!!! I stopped at the bank on the way home and of course noticed I was short changed ...it was only 10 bucks but it's still 10 bucks !! I called the store right way ...This is where it gets good ....One of the cashiers answered the phone , without hesitation the cashier got the manager on the phone ...The manager Mary was so responsive it was amazing She offered to count the drawer right then and there ...I told her it wasn't necessary because I had to go in the next day to pick up my copy anyway The manager called me back in about 15 minutes ...Left a message telling me yes the drawer is over ...I put your 10 dollars in an envelope pick it up at your convenience ...Way to go Mary !!!! That is a perfect example of exemplary customer service !!! A huge scam. Bought a slow computer for 697.81minus the129.99 for microsoft office. If you see the receipt you will see all the added costs that they put on there as well as the 299.99 computer. As you can imagine the computer works poorly but they put all these little additions to beef up the price. I bring the computer in for work less than a year later because the McAFEE they sold me was not doing its job of removing viruses. They charge you an additional fee to the mcafee so they can speed up the computer (you will see this on the receipt. read more

I didn't even bother to read why the rating was so low for this location because it's THAT good. I went in and less than 30 seconds later a sales associate greeted me (that's polite) , asked me if I needed any help (why yes I do!) and steered me into the right aisle, asking me for specifics of what I was looking for today: an electronic stapler. Needed one that was light, convenient, and wireless (that's a lot of characteristics!). Low and behold,. he helps me find it, fast. Great service. The cashier was nice too! This Staples is pretty good, nothing out of the ordinary. My only complaints would be is that they never had any of the furniture that I wanted in stock so I had to wait a few days for them to get it in. Otherwise it has served its purpose in terms of office supplies. Funny side story, so I bought a long plastic table from them for beer pong, and they asked if I wanted to purchase insurance on the table for $10 extra. I thought "that's ridiculous it's a PLASTIC table." Of course I don't get it, and of course I almost regret it. That night we had a party, and a drunk girl fell onto the table collapsing 2 of the legs. The table broke the day we got it, the day we said no to the insurance. Thankfully I'm resourceful and was able to fix it with some super glue. So if you're looking to get a beer pong table, maybe not so much a bad idea to get the $10 insurance. read more

Zero respect for your time. Last 3 visits: 1 ordered a chair online to pick up in store. It took 55 minutes to get it. One person found out what I needed, called it in on their walkie and then walked away and that was after waiting in line. When it seemed like it was taking too long I started a timer. Waited 15 min on the timer and then asked the person who helped me what was going on. Took another 15 minutes for someone to bring it out. If it was me I would have been apologetic and offered to bring it out to the customers car. I got back in my car 55 minutes after I got out. 2- had to fax something and it took over 30 minutes due to the MULTIPLE machines being broken (no signs so everyone kept trying as they would do part of the process) and the lack of staff. 3- 30 minutes to pick up two planners I ordered ahead of time. One was in stock and the other had to be shipped. The one that had to be shipped took longer then promised. The cashier found the first one and instead of listening to me, she decided to come up with every excuse as to why she couldn't find it. A- the order should have been put together once the second item arraigned. B- If she was having that much of a problem to the point where she is going to give up, she should have asked for help MUCH sooner. Sure enough when she stopped and looked at the name (I told her numerous times that it was shipped so she should have known it was in a box) she found it. She didn't seem to be the strongest cashier and it's a pretty bad business decision to leave her alone upfront and with 2 employees within direct site. One of them should have walked over and offered assistance when she was obviously having difficulty (walking back and forth trying to find something with the same customer standing infront of them) and the line wasn't moving. read more

I sent a 20 page brochure to copy center and needed one copy. They wanted to charge me $40.00. This is for 10 two sided 8-1/2 x 11's because the brochure is 5.5 x 8.5. Since the manager Patrick left the copy center has gone downhill. His replacement Kristina was excellent and she is gone too. Staples is losing money on their old model and rumor has it they are going to sink everything into copy and print. The copy prices reflect this. Had to update because they have rebounded and have some talented people working there again. Much more helpful with online ordering too. As an update: They have new personnel and they are once again doing a great job. Much easier to send files now also. read more

This Staples is their #1 corporate store in terms of age -- in other words -- the very first Staples retail operation in the USA and the world. For years it has been the very best Staples store to visit to receive help with difficult or complicated problems. It is the place to receive the best customer service with the least sales pressure. If you are unsure what to buy, the workers at this Staples store will spend the most time with you and be the most helpful. The only thing keeping this store from 5-Stars is that about every other year a new improvement is announced for the customer Reward Card program, but in reality the "improvement" actually makes the program less easy or rewarding, or both. Two MBTA busses stop near this store, however, it is somewhat tricky because you cannot see the front of the store from either bus line. read more

The worst rude customer service. It is like they look at you and don't see you. Used their post office services, it is just ridiculous, the manager is as clueless as the other stuff. "Sending international mail" is like unsolvable mystery to them. One person could do it, but only if she is up to it. If you need to print something in the large amount, for a small business or classroom do yourself a favor and go to Allegra, my favorite store is at Waltham. And for mailing post office, for some reason Watertown and Waltham has the nicest clerks. read more

I've been a loyal Staples customer partly because of the company's mission to diversity. However, today's experience was just terrible. I emailed a copy request 2 hours prior to my visit to the store. Prior to sending the email, I spoke with an associate who told me that I should send the file but write in the email that I would arrive and explain what needed to be done b/c I wasn't sure what type of paper I wanted. So, I arrive around stated time to find one sales associate helping out this one guy who needed a lot of customer service. I stood around for at least 15 minutes and was even missed by the so called Assistant Manager who served another customer who, in fact, came in after me. I was annoyed. They really should have two people up at the front serving customers because there were at least three other people behind me who needed something. When the Assistant Manager came to help me, she bounced around between a few other things before finally getting back to me. They are seriously understaffed and should put more people on, considering they are more expensive that most other places. She was unable to print out even one copy of a file for me. I only needed 8 copies of a file on card stock. She said she couldn't help me, and that last minute requests are hard for them, almost like in a blaming tone as if I wanted to be there at the last minute. She didn't realize that I am a stay-at-home mother, work two jobs, and am a small business owner on top of that. My toddler daughter was with me and was getting antsy in her carriage. The Assistant Manager was not seeing the big picture at all and very unsympathetic. How the hell am I supposed to know that getting 8 (one sheet) copies on card stock would take more than 45 minutes??? I arrived around 4:45PM only to get out a little after 5:30PM. (I was so pissed b/c I had to drop my daughter off at daycare and then head off to my night job.) The Assistant Manager told me that she couldn't help me and mentioned the self-service station. Either she or the other guy up there said that they don't normally handle on the spot requests. Okay, then why didn't the associate on the phone tell me that? Firstly, I really didn't understand what she meant by self-service station, and she didn't seem to offer it in a helpful way. Almost just throwing me over there. My daughter basically cried out loud the whole time that I was getting my stuff down through the self-service station. I zipped in and out. I don't know why the Assistant Manager couldn't have just helped me out with that. VERY POOR SERVICE!!! especially considering my daughter was crying loudly and disturbing everyone around us. I am a disgruntled customer but am most likely forced to use their services again in the future since the copy center in Watertown Square has closed down. Argh... read more

Shout out to Steve in the printing dept. for calling me to let me know there was an error on one of my documents before printing all 125 of them! I use this Staples for all my company business needs because its convenient (online ordering!) and they're always fast.This time around I had missed an error on a document - and instead of just printing them anyway and making me pay for it (since technically it was a mistake on my part), Steve called me and let me know there was a problem. He gave me the email address to submit a new file, which I did. This file was ready quickly! I've never had an issue with timing, print errors, or rudeness. They have always been pleasant to me! I don't know why everyone's complaining so much...I think this location is great! read more

The new xerox self serve printers are the worst. I always use staples for my printing (over 150 flyers a month) and the new printers run super slow, and cost more. I hope staples makes the right decision and drops the xerox printers. I'm usually in and out, and today I was in a rush and didn't even get the items printed I needed. The new system couldn't read the file (ive never had that problem before). If these printers stick around I will be looking elsewhere for my printing. read more

I was disappointed when the staples in Allston closed, and I think this one is my new favorite. As a teacher, I do a lot of back to school shopping, and I was able to get a ton of items for under ten dollars total. Even the cashier was surprised! I can't believe I've been inspired to review a Staples, but this trip did it. I was in a rush, and there was only one register open. At that register was a long wait, held up by a customer who was buying a large amount of items and arguing with the cashier. Several employees were sitting around behind the printer ink counter, playing with their phones and talking. I asked if they could ring me up, and they told me to go wait in line at the one register that was open. I explained that the line wasn't moving (thinking "why should I even have to explain this?"), and they just glared at me. Fortunately another employee, who was probably the manager, stepped in and offered to ring me up at another register. This isn't the first time I've been to this particular Staples and watched one employee doing most of the work while others stood around doing nothing. Several weeks ago at the printing center, one guy was holding up the fort while three other guys played with their phones. I know it's not the most interesting job in the world, but they can do better than that. I'm actually so annoyed that I'm going to start going to a different Staples. read more

Never again. I've been in here a few times since moving to Boston and each experience is more astoundingly bad than the last. First, nothing ever works. I've had to use their copy and print center more than once and I've never seen it running at 100 percent. Basics such as printers, computers, and faxes are frequently down, and no one knows how to fix them. These items are rarely marked as out of order, so when you ask the staff for help they look at you like you're a moron for assuming that their equipment is actually functional. Today I was informed that one staff member has been trying to get the tech support people to look at the computer/printer connection for two weeks, but no dice so far. So in the mean time, you can get on one of the functional computers if you're lucky, but you can't print anything. There are no signs to indicate that this is the case so you don't find out until after you've logged in and started to accumulate the usage cost (cheap, but still). This seems to be the typical way of doing things at this branch. Also, the quality of employees here leaves a lot to be desired. Many are disheveled-looking and inattentive. The front-end staff on the registers are totally incompetent. Some cannot communicate effectively in English and seem completely unfamiliar with the register system, leading to numerous conferences between employees in their native tongues trying to figure out how to ring up even the simplest of purchases. Of course, the lines are growing as this is taking place. The first time I came in here, the woman who checked me out could not compute the difference between my check-in time and my check-out time on the computer (it was something like 5:13 to 5:34), and needed to summon her colleagues for assistance. Super friendly and helpful, very knowledgeable about everything, recommended the semi-gloss to me when I didn't know what kind of paper to get after the first paper that another associate told me to use was a bust, and it was definitely the right choice -- my print came out amazing. Gorgeous colors, extremely professional quality, it looks so good in its frame, and I can't wait to hang it up in my new apartment along with the other prints I got done today. Usually this staples is fine. However today I went to do some copying and cutting. The self serve paper cutter ruined color copies I had just made. The people in the copier center would not replace the blade or do the one cut for me without a charge. Nor would they get a paper cutter from the shelf.
