I had a good experience here overall. They have sturdy moving or shipping boxes on sale. The person who helped me was kind, and cut my box down to size when I didn't use all of it, so I wouldn't be charged extra. The one thing I wish I had known before was that business accounts can't be used at stores, which are franchise locations. I had already packed my box before I realized. The person was nice about it, and checked if the account could be used a number of times. He pointed out that I had to go to a center if I wanted to use the account, and that the stores were franchises, and blocked the use of accounts. That was helpful to know for the future. read more

I run a small business and while I ship most of my orders through USPS, occasionally UPS offers better rates for large packages, so I make drop offs here on a regular basis. I was really glad to learn that they sell packing peanuts, because sometimes I run out and need to grab supplies at the last minute. Well, the last time I asked for packing peanuts, the employee told me that they no longer sell them and this was a company wide policy change. Turns out that was a lie: He just didn't feel like going in the back and making up the bags for me. I couldn't find anything on the UPS website regarding this policy change, so I asked another staff member the next time I was at the store, and that person confirmed that I can absolutely still buy packing peanuts there. All I can say is that if UPS doesn't want to take my money for supplies, that is just fine. I go to U-Haul or Staples now if I need supplies in a hurry. I just drop my pre-paid packages off at this store as necessary and will not buy anything else or seek additional services. I'm still leaving 3 stars because everyone else I've encountered at this store was courteous and helpful. read more

I brought a UPS package to ship and needed to print the label. Not only did they charge me to print the label, but they also charged me $2 to use a computer to print and would not allow me to AirPrint (despite their printer supporting wireless printing). Update: since my initial review I've worked with Carol on several other projects, from posters to booklets to postcards. She really knows what she's doing, and working with a good printer means the difference between a lackluster color copy and a beautiful printed piece. Each location is independently owned and operated, and this location does the best work by far in the area! This review is for printing services. I have ordered color copies and postcards from this location and they've always been super friendly and helpful. Print center manager, Carol, was wonderful to work with. You'd think The UPS Store would fight on behalf of UPS in a shipping dispute? You'd be wrong. After a couple cases of glassware in original packaging were destroyed by the logistical wizards of UPS Ground, the staff courteously reached out via email to let me know of my merchandise's untimely demises. I replied asking if the value of the merchandise and the cost of the merch would be reimbursed, to which they answered UPS handles an investigation in to the incident and determines their liability. I'd be notified within a few weeks. Fast forward 20 days: UPS decides the original packaging wasn't good enough (even though it survived a trip from Mexico, ha-cha-cha-cha!) and so they wouldn't pay for a penny. The email from this shipping center's owner was entirely empathetic, and said they would file an appeal. They did, and sent me the paperwork to prove it. Fast forward 13 days: appeal denied, I'd get bupkis. The owner proactively offered to refund the entire shipping cost, and work with me to potentially get the merchandise replaced. This was out of their pocket, even though they weren't at fault (turns out, the box fell off a conveyor belt in NYC. Awesome!). That's a step above in customer service, and it's much appreciated. read more

I don't know what to think or even believe with these shipping quotes. I was shipping a small box economy that only weighed 12 lbs and the lady kept telling me it was going to be $85. I said "are you SURE? " and she insisted. I left and had the damn thing shipped at USPS. Keep in mind, some dude just shipped me a 40lb keyboard UPS economy from Chicago (big box) for $75. I'v e used these folks many times for both shipping packages and for large scale B&W prints. They have always been 100% perfect, helpful, on time, and reasonably priced. Reading the reviews here, it seems that people are surprised that the UPS Store charges for custom packing services. However, when you enter the store, they make it very clear that they are not part of UPS and that they do charge for their services (duh!). Might be weird to review a UPS store but this is the location I always use and they are consistently great at customer service. Today I realized that I had idiotically attached the wrong return label to a package that contained a fairly expensive return - I called and they were able to find the package and set it aside until I could come in and fix my mistake. When I showed up a few hours later, it was waiting there for me and they helped me swap out the label and avoid an expensive mistake. The parking lot makes dropping off large items extra easy, too. read more

I brought in a package that I was returning to an online store. The only problem was that I didn't have any packing tape to close up the package (it was more like a mailing bag.) So, I figured that whoever worked there would help me out and give me a few strips of tape. When I asked, the woman told me that yes, they have tape - for sale. She then pointed me towards a wall of packing tape, which just happened to be double the price of what packing tape normally should be. Since I really needed to send that package, I was eventually suckered into buying a whole roll of packing tape so I could use one strip to close the package and mail it off. While I cut the ONE strip of tape off the roll that I had just paid for, the woman had the nerve to go behind the counter and TAPE up random boxes right in front of me. It would have been nice if she could spare, oh, I don't know...like 6 inches of tape. While I don't like to think of myself as someone who needs kickbacks in order to become a loyal customer, I find it really crappy that this woman made me buy an entire roll of tape when it was obvious that I only needed a small amount for my package. It's just courtesy for the customer. Now, I would understand if I had multiple packages to tape up - I wouldn't expect an employee to be handing out tape for everything in that scenario. Making customers buy a roll of packing tape at a jacked up price (when they could use just a tiny bit) is a bad business practice and makes me think that they could care less about forging good customer experiences (which leads to repeated business.) Because of this, I won't be back (which is too bad since this UPS is located three minutes from my house.) read more

So this place blows. Here is my experience: First visit- Had to ship my cell phone I sold on eBay so I run over there after work, go in and am greated by some chick with "We're closed." before I get a step in the place. WTF??!! I want to hear something more polite than that, seems how you are the moron who didnt lock up when you should have. Place closes at 7, which seems dumb to me to start with and I was only 10 minutes after that, you dont want to make another sale? C'mon. Second Visit: Still needing to ship this thing I go on during lunch because I happened to be home then. People are friendly enough, didn't get much information on my shipping options/prices so i said I would like to ship this with standard Ground. Cost $16!! I mean the thing is not big. I get back to work and see the shipping notification, its from DHL??? WTF again!? Since when does the UPS store ship DHL. Just pisses me off because i told this guy specifically that I would be shipping UPS, so now I'm a f@cking liar cause this chick wants to sell the option with a higher profit margin. I came here to ship an old iMac - you know, the original candy colored kind. It's heavy, and the shipping cost was going to be high. But I didn't expect it to be $20 more than the estimate on UPS's website. After asking about the discrepancy, I figured out very quickly why it cost more. This UPS Store does not ship via... wait for it.... wait for it... This UPS Store does not ship via UPS! Holy cow. Apparently, the store is in some dispute with UPS and only ships via DHL. Which is a bunch more expensive. So, I left and went to the UPS Store in Mass Ave in Cambridge. They were priced more appropriately - and they live up to the name of their store. Everyone has a different experience. Here's mine: I had a big, heavy guitar amp. In a road case. With a big footswitch. Wasn't sure exactly where it was gonna go, because it's up on eBay, and who knows. But I needed soem shipping quotes for such a heavy, irregular package. Carol, a manager, not only gave me detailed quotes, she offered - let me specify, I din't ask - she offered to let me leave the cumbersome beat there in the store! Two days later, via email, I asked for even more quotes to different ZIPs, which I had in my inbox before 11am the next day. Though I was concerned my big, dumb equipment must be in their way, i was again assured that all was fine, and that, considering the approaching snowstorm, I'd be better off not lugging it back and forth. People, that's customer service. I don't give a rat's ass about UPS's rates or standards. I was treated like a person, not a customer. Don't do business with them. Don't confuse them with UPS. They are like Ticketmaster. They'll sell UPS shipping services with their own service fees on top. And they refuse your shipping materials and force you to pay for theirs. I've had two experiences with this miserable racket... First. I packed up a computer to ship out about four years ago. I packed it at my house with my own materials. I brought the package to the "UPS Store" and they refused to ship it until they had inspected the contents of the box. So, they cut it open, repacked it and charged me for the s**t I had already done once myself. Then they entered my package details into the UPS website and slapped their own service fees on top. Over charged on packing, overcharged on shipping. Raw deal. Second. Now I pack my own boxes and print UPS labels at home through the real UPS website. I drop off my outgoing packages at this "UPS Store" because they are a pickup location for UPS. This afternoon the store called me. She says the UPS Store was not willing to let the UPS driver pick up my outgoing package - she said she thought it had liquids in it (it did not) and it should be repacked. Mind you, I already paid UPS to ship it and had a UPS shipping label attached, so the way I see it's none of the store's business. Then I remember four years back when they bamboozled me into opening and repacking my s**t in the store for some surprise cost. I picked up the package and drove to Central Square and used another UPS pickup location. No problems. So that store and the cheating cheaters who work there can shove it. I'll travel twice the distance each time I have to ship something just for the pure pleasure of never seeing them again. Addition: I feel sorry for the people in my neighborhood who don't have access to the web and can't speak enough English to know they're getting fleeced at this store. read more

The 2 stars is only bc I like the store - meaning the available items for sale, the location, and bc I so often need the services offered there. However - and I hate saying this - the owner/operators really need to learn what it means to be in business. Owning a business is not just about counting your money. It's about being nice to your customers. So many times in this store, when I approach the counter with a cheerful "hello!" and a smile on my face - even if there's NO ONE ELSE IN THE STORE! - I am brought up short by what feels like a straight arm to the face. Translated: the owner/operators push you back and away when you approach them, and act as though you are inconveniencing them or bothering them when you come up to the counter. It instantly brings me down, and makes me feel like I have to tiptoe around them and bend over backwards to be nice to THEM to get them to help me! They make me feel like I am bothering them by just coming into the store. They seem to be very stressed and easily pushed over the top by any little thing that sends the smallest vibration through their space. We are your CUSTOMERS! Even if you are stressed out, or having a bad day (which unfortunately seems to be all the time), you need to learn to act as though you are happy to see a customer coming towards you, and show how interested you are in helping them get what they need! The middle-aged woman who works here (owner?) seems to be able to only do one thing at a time - and extremely slowly at that. If you ask her a question while she's doing something else, same thing: a figurative stiff arm to the face. She won't even acknowledge you or say, "give me just a second please". I mean, how hard it is after all these years to run the cash register and answer a customer's question at the same time?? Her idea of being nice is to be passive-aggressive. If I want to keep using this store, I have to plan to continue to kiss their asses from the minute I walk in the door until I walk out to get even a semblance of customer service. After my (yet another) negative experience in this store recently, I am going to check out some other locations. read more

The few people I've interacted with -- Don, Carol, and I think another fellow on the phone whose name I forgot -- are super friendly and helpful. They've been great at deciphering my disorganized attempts at describing my odd situation. They worked with me to setup a rental mailbox during a cross-country move where I wouldn't be moving into my apartment until about two weeks after arriving to the area. They made that whole process simple and, when I finally made it to the store in-person, helped me finish up all of the remaining details. Bottom line: don't be discouraged by some of the older, lower-star reviews. I'll keep coming back to this store and will hopefully continue to have great experiences. read more

The "Ooops!" store. Naay.... you do not want to go to that store! We used their service to ship solidly packed moving boxes. Before/After pictures available upon request. Over $400 total. They contained emotionally very precious items. Boxes were treated ruthlessly and were unrecognizable upon arrival. Four people got involved in trying to have that store interested in the matter. "Ping-pong" emails, photos and lists for ten days. We had to hear incredible things such as: "I can tell you put a lot of work into creating that file for us [...]" (Yeah, tell me about it!) and: "My apologies for not asking in my original email, but if you could also please send photos of the contents that were damaged (along with a description of them)" (Sure, there are only a few hundreds of them.) From D.G. store manager: "we do NOT work for UPS."(!?!?!? What store did I enter again?) and: "I have attempted to get UPS to assist you with your issue, but I have not been successful." ("While there is life there is hope." Still waiting for the call...). "If you feel that you need to file a BBB complaint, please do so and I will make them aware that you are condemning the wrong company. I will do the same with yelp and any other website that you decide to post." So, his lip service rhetoric will now be under my post. Good luck with it. I travel constantly on business and needed a place to get packages for both personal and business use while I was out of town. Since I lived nearby I signed up for a mail box there. The UPS Store is fantastic for this as you get a real street address rather than a PO box or some other address that e-commerce sites occasionally will refuse to ship to. 24 hour access to your box is available if you need it but I didn't sign up for that. The only package glitch I ever had was when a UPS driver delivered my package to the Dunkin Donuts store next door! Since the package was a UPS battery backup system, the DD people thought it had been sent by corporate and had actually opened it up. Weird but eventually settled. The rented box was my first exposure to the store and it was great although it probably caused me to order more stuff online than I normally would. Since becoming mailbox renter I've also used them for: - Receiving massive deliveries (servers on a pallet) - Shipping big servers back to a vendor - Printing and binding services Shipping and receiving was no big deal. I'm a fan of the printing services as I literally emailed them a PDF file while I was in California. They had my presentation printed and bound and even opened the store a bit early so that I could pick up the materials after coming straight from the airport. I'm happy enough with the store that I still keep my rented mailbox with them even though I moved to Roslindale more than a year ago (hey, any excuse to visit the old hood again ...) They've upgraded their systems and now I get an email from them automatically whenever I get a package which is nice. I understand the frustration from the people who noted that they don't currently ship UPS from there. It has something to do with the fact that the UPS Stores are not actually owned by UPS. The dispute has something to do with shipping rates and this store is one of many stores currently going for class action status in a lawsuit. I think any store involved in the lawsuit got it's UPS shipping privileges yanked by UPS corporate. Since I receive packages far more than I ship them I'm not inconvenienced but I can understand why others find this a pain! read more

The other one star reviews talking about the rude service seem credible to me. I walked in a couple of minutes before 5 and one man said they were closing in 1 minute. I get that, but while I was trying to give him my ZIP code to get my package out, someone else interrupted and said "we're closed now." The staff here clearly aren't incentivized to treat customers like they are appreciated here. I was treated like an inconvenience. No "thank you for coming in," etc. This is a cultural problem the owner and manager need to solve. I would have: * said "Thank you for coming in. We're closing right away but I'll do my best to help you with something quick. We value your business." * not interrupted someone else's transaction with a rude "we're closed now" the moment the clock struck 5 pm. I would have been out of there by 5:02, but I decided to take my business elsewhere. I also just spoke to a friend of mine about this store. He lives nearby and I once had a package left there for him. He said when he got there and asked for the package, a woman interrupted him and told him he had to go somewhere else. After insisting that UPS had confirmed delivery, she said "we don't accept packages here." He showed her the confirmation I'd sent and she went back and eventually found his letter. Then she didn't apologize. She was clearly annoyed. Another example of treating a customer like an inconvenience--he said "I was an annoyance." read more
