You never have to worry about getting help with what hair to get because the employees are always willing to help. It is also less expensive than the neighboring hair store down the street. I work next door to this place. The store front is only the width of the double doors but inside is very large. I bought some hair ties, spray bottle and detangler for my daughter. My mom loves this place also. The front door at my work was left unlocked accidentally after hours and the alarm went off when costumers tried to enter. The employees at Star contacted us and even taped a sign on the door saying "closed" to deter people from entering and tripping the alarm again. I drove there to lock up and thanked them. Still looking to buy a bed and other things, I searched and searched for something I liked. Finally I drove to Star. Excellent service! Cindy Hair not only found me a bed, but ultimately sold me more furniture as I discussed how to reconfigure a room with her. No pressure. I purchased several things. They called to confirm my appointment the day before. They arrived on time. They quickly set up my furniture where I wanted it. They were courteous and professional. My only gripe is that they propped open the door without telling me. I have indoor pets. As soon as I told them, they took care of it. I will return. read more

My daughter is biracial and has spectacular, curly hair. (3C for all the natural haired beauties out there.) I've been searching for the right product for her hair because she has incredibly sensitive skin and usually hair products give her a bad rash all along her neck and shoulders. In addition, her ringlets tend to frizz and dry out easily. I did an online search and came across a product line called "Mixed Chicks". They have a line for kids and I chose to give it a try. The kids' line is free of strong chemicals and made with natural oils. I ordered a sample kit online and found that it did wonders for her hair and didn't break her out. Now, my angel looks even better than usual. I had a hard time finding a local shop that carried the products. While I don't mind ordering online, I don't really care for the s&h charges. I ordered 3 sample packs at $0.99 each and paid an additional $6.95 in shipping. OUCH! I came across Star Beauty when searching for a local dealer. This little gem can be tricky to find. They are tucked in the shopping center that houses Illusions and Aaron's. They are right next door to Aaron's in a small corner. I walked into a heck of a place. For all my African American ladies, this is the place. They have a great selection of nice wigs, hair, hair products, brushes....you name it. They even carry pictures, jewelery, hair clips, and contacts. I was mesmerized by all the stuff you can find there. While I wanted to peruse the shop a little longer, a curious 3 yr old makes it a little difficult. They carried the shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner, and the detangler for my baby. All bottles were 8oz and the total came out to a little less than $60. You can order the same quad pack from the website for $48. After s&h and tax, you pay $59.91. So, it's roughly the same thing. The only advantage of ordering online is that they will usually put in little sample packs for you to hand out to your friends in your order. However, I prefer to be able to pick up the stuff without having to wait for shipping. The staff is friendly and I really like this place. Not only will I go back, I plan to take my sister-in-law and mother-in-law. I used to have hair to my knees so I love hair supply stores. read more

This is usually my go to spot for all of my hair products, it didn't matter the distance I always drove from Hutto passing many others to go here. However yesterday I was very disappointed with their lack of customer service. I went in to purchase some braiding hair (10 bags at that) which on the package had 1.99 per bag, when I got to the register I noticed on the register that the hair was ringing up as 2.99 per bag and I asked the owner who was working the register why was that when it read 1.99 on the package he simply said oh some one labeled them wrong. so then I said ok and I understand that but any business with good customer service would give the customer the product for the price that is shown otherwise it is considered false advertisement. I even told him that every package of hair in that particular brand was marked for 1.99, I even grabbed one of the other workers to show her and she understood what I was saying and even went to talk to the owner agreeing that I should pay the price that was shown. His only resolution was for her along with another worker to pull the hair and change the prices right then and there on the floor. Unbelievable, needless to say they have lost a very valuable customer, I may not be hurting them but I'm sure not going to be helping them by spending my money there. Found another hair store down the street, that I will be purchasing from moving forward. read more

They are the only beauty supply store in the area, and they do not carry several different brands of products. I often find myself driving to the beauty supply stores in Austin to get exactly what I need. However, if you live in the suburban Austin area and are in a pinch this is a good go-to store for the basics. Just don't expect a wide selection to choose from. read more
