The professionalism in this shop is not where it should be. My niece had an appointment at 10am, in which she got there at 9:55am, the girl was who was supposed to work on her hair came in at 12pm! Then once she was finished with her wash and dry, she saw that the hair that was supposed to be sewn in was ruined. Once we complained to the owner Natalie, some worker named Alexis decided to rudely intervene in which she was properly ignored. Needless to say, the hair was not put in and we left without paying. When Natalie was told that a review was going to be rewritten, we says that she was "gonna write a review back," I guess this was meant as a smart threat back. Workers need to be trained better in professionalism and how to not escalate a situation that could have been avoided. I highly DON'T recommend this establishment. read more

Terrible business full of women who don't care about you or the health of your hair.Went here to get a silk press and was told my hair was nappy and my ends were terrible (very unprofessional) many stylist are heavy handed left with heat damage. Don't get me started with the extra charge for everything if you have any hair condition or light dandruff they will bill you extra and it aint cheap. My daughter and I went there for a quick blow dryer. The shampoo girl advised us to get a leaving condition. They did not disclose the price for the leaving condition. They did a shampoo and blowing our hair. The total price was $120.00 then thet charged us $202.00. I made a phone call to get the details about the charges. The way the lady explained it to me was very funny. You better asked how much everything the do will cost to avoid surprises. The charged taxes to us. I don't even give then one start. read more

When you go here you have to be specific about what you want. I always get a wash and a deep conditioner and a blow out when I go. To be honest it's a hit or miss depending on who you go to. I have natural hair that has a mixed curl pattern . No I am not a new customer I have been going to this salon for about 5 years.... I WILL NEVER EVER GO BACK AGAIN IN MY LIFE!!! I have NEVER had an issue with my hair but NOV. 2019 was the first issue, I got a silk press for the first time it only lasted a week and when i washed it out my hair had a horrible smell that lasted for about 2 weeks, completely stripped my curl pattern and my hair had this weird filmy texture to it....... Me being me, smh. I decided to give them another try because I thought maybe a silk press was just too harsh on my hair..... NOPE! Fast forward to May 2020 I went on a Tuesday to get a REGULAR BLOW OUT and trim. Just now washed my hair June 17th 2020... THE SAME EXACT HORRIBLE FISHY SMELL & FILMY FEELING is in my hair AGAIN... I went downstairs asked my mother to smell my hair didn't tell her why and her exact words were "your hair smells like a bad perm!" My curl pattern was finally coming back since the 2019 visit and now my hair looks like spaghetti, it smell so bad I don't even want to go to work in the morning and my scalp itches. Star Dominican has the potential to be a great salon but my last visit September 15, 2022 my friend had her hair washed, colored, conditioned, blow dried and curled. When I arrived to pick her up she had black dye on the front and back of her white tee shirt and jeans. Some of that dye rubbed off on my light grey leather car seat. We tried to reason with the stylist on the best way to handle this situation however, another stylist came from the back showing her true colors‼Telling us when getting a color you must wear certain clothes etc. The stylists in this salon showed bad customer service, they're unprofessional and disrespectful. I'm so sad. This salon used to be EVERYTHINGGG! But I owe you guys the truth; I got heat damage here. So, they're really good, but I would only recommend them if you perm your hair. My curls are gone, and a girl friend said the same thing happened to her with a different stylist than mine. The customer service here is really good, and they're so nice--but I won't be back. Smh ! Called this place on Monday and was quoted 30 for regular wash and trim ok cool so I went on Wednesday and paid 50 ! TO WASH MY REGULAR SHORT THIN HAIR AND TRIM ! I told the girl what I was quoted and she ended up calling somebody named natty on the phone and carried on a Spanish conversation just to still tell me I had to pay $50. Ok cool I'll just never come back ... When I left upset I couldn't leave it alone so I called and described my hair and asked how much for a wash and trim no deep conditioner she said 35-45 . I have natural & colored hair - a double whammy! I love that my regular stylist (Mercy) uses heat protectant before blow drying & before flat ironing. My hair is not dry but is lightly oiled enough for my hair to have a healthy look with a bouncy feel. My story is - I work out during the week (3 times a week) & my hair last during my many activities... I like my hair to be washed & well taken care, I get that here. You can get that (constantly) if you know what you want when you come in. You can expect that your natural hair will be evaluated & done appropriately. I STRONGLY suggest getting a deep conditioner or protein treatment often. I get mines once a week to avoid dryness. read more

I give them one star due to me coming here 3 times and the last time was HORRIBLE! I tried to get highlights and they was telling me it will cost 250$ for a highlight job. NOW NEVER have I EVER heard a highlight job is 250 especially when I've gotten my highlights and whole head dyed before for cheaper w/ prices COMBINED at a salon. I quickly got out the chair and one of the ladies tried to argue with me like her prices (that she pulled out from the sky because there's no pricing board) was legit... It is one word OK or is that two letters O.K. ? Well anyway I would not go here unless I really just needed my hair washed with a slightly more professional touch then myself. I went here twice. You cannot say I did not give them a chance. Don't I give everyone a chance? But when I went here they did a mediocre job. Washed, set, and blowdry...nothing spectacular. But I can say they are not very skilled with the round brush. When I go to a Dominican Salon (Like Mary's) they can usually curl your hair with the flip of the wrist combined with the round brush and blowdryer. Not this place. If you want curls its a whole nother process where they use flat irons. Ewww a Dominican Salon should not use flat irons. Enough said. read more

I was a loyal customer and tell they tried to poke me in the tailpipe with no vaseline. Now, I will say the darkskin stylist, Jennie is an excellent stylist. Im said that she will not being doing my hair anymore bc of where she works. They are nasty, inconsiderate and trying to overcharge African Americans and don't know the definition of natural. My hair is relaxed, bleached and has highlights and they tried to charge me $45 for a set when I know its $35. Anywho, I won't be going back and Im making a complaint to the Better Business Bureau about their business and contacting the Cosmetology board to see if they are licensed to do hair in a salon. As far as star rating, I gave them one bc I had to in order to post this review but they don't deserve any. I went here twice....The first time I went I loved how my hair looked had my hair washed by a lady at one station and another lady did my blowout and clipped my ends. It looked so great and the heat wasn't all that bad...she put a good sheen on my hair and I was out the door. It didnt take long was what I liked about it. The owner who usually sits in the front she speaks but the rest really don't they just get you in and out which I really like. My second go around in there the woman who did my hair the first time was not there so it was an older woman with lighter hair and glasses...Please don't go to her ever!!!!! Ghet-ttttto establishment. Stumbled in bc my regular salon was closed. I should've known to make a U-turn when I walked in bc the place was dirty. The floor was dirty. The stations were dirty. The furniture was dirty. Ooookay. I called in for a price before I got there and they quoted me $35. Cool. By the time I was supposed to get styled, the price jumped to $65. What in the world? The very rude & raspy lady said she couldn't roll my hair bc I needed a perm. [What?--Your mother!] She was yelling in Spanish from across the salon to the young girl who was translating. The Nerve. Offensive is an understatement. I have a relaxer and was 8 weeks out on my touch up bc I also have color. If she couldn't roll my hair bc of that, she shouldn't call herself an adept stylist...a Dominican stylist at that. I just came back from the salon and I could not be happier with how it came out. I just moved from Queens, N.Y. where dominican salons are a dime a dozen and don't cost more that $20. The first place I tried down here had me looking like a mushroom when I walked out becuase the front of my hair is shorter than the back so after they curled it, it was atrocious. The next spot I tried wasn't dominican but it was 25% off Tuesdays, not worth it though because my hair was puffy. Star Dominican Salon left my hair just the way I like it. Wash/set/blowdry/flatiron which is what I'm use to in NY. Doesn't break my hair with the heat so it works for me. $15 off everything on Mondays means $20 I'm used to. I'm happy!! Very unprofessional an unpleasant experience Natalie the salon did my hair, while blow drying my hair the comb dropped on the floor, before I could say something to her, she pick up the comb off the dirty floor An continued. I asked her if she could rinse the comb off I was ignored! The entire time she was curling my hair she was on the phone with an inmate who was housed in Upper Marlboro jail, which I thought to be really annoying because I like to relax while having this type of service rendered. I prefer not listen to her conversations, last but not least the price when up from $45 to $55 in a matter of two weeks with no price scale to reflect the increase in price. Never again read more

I've been coming here on and off for the last 5 years. They are the perfect place to go in between time of your main stylist. I don't feel like anyone should go to a Dominican salon all the time considering the heat. This place was horrible. My scalp was burning half the time they were claiming they were doing a deep conditioner I was there to get a color and also a blowout. For some reason my scalp felt like it was on fire and it was itching when I was under the dryer with this deep conditioner or Color whatever they claim they were doing. The wash girl barely spoke English and when I tried to tell her that my skin was burning and itching and that my eyes were kinda irritated she just kept saying it's okay it needs to sit under the dryer for the color to take. I have had my hair colored before and also deep condition before and I've never felt the Sensation that I felt as if I was getting a mild relaxer put in my hair. My eyes were puffy and my scalp is very itchy and inflamed. Once I left I had this weird smell in my hair and I was like maybe it's from the color so I decided to just let it go and wear my hair straight since they did get it really straight for me being natural it was considerably straight which was what I wanted. However I did not expect for my hair to have this weird chemical smell even after the color it was still strong chemical smell in the air and I've had my hair colored before and never experienced this before. Low and behold I wait two and a half weeks to wash my hair after about two weeks my scalp was feeling like sore and had a lot of redness and thick white chunky flakes but I've never had happened before. I only can wear my hair about 3 weeks with it being straight and I still don't ever get that much dandruff as this time. So my husband kept telling me that I need to wash my hair because it was flaking really bad at the top and in the middle of my scalp and I was like well it's still itching and it still has like a burning sensation. So I started washing and conditioning my hair I noticed a strong odor coming from me washing it as if I had a perm left in my hair my scalp was still burning and still inflamed and still irritated and then my eyes started burning again so I figured maybe I need to shampoo it again shampoo and wash it again and this time I put a conditioner in it thinking that my curls were going to come back soon but my hair was very limp like and my stands were just laying there on my shoulder as if I had put a texturizer in ,very Loosely! I deep condition again and it still did not revert back to my natural curls I have a 3 c pattern and right now I'm like a 3-a or loser after this blowout. I'm not too sure what this chemical smell is but it had made my whole bathroom and my whole master bedroom smells like a sulfur smell as if a perm was left in my scalp and not all of it was washed out so I am very upset I'm going to call the salon and I'm going to complain and see what they're using in the conditioner or their products but I would warn you to definitely do your research before you go to this salon. Not sure where to begin with this review... First off, I'm natural and take particular care of my hair. I've had blowouts since becoming natural but this is by far my worst experience. Before arriving, I washed, deep conditioned and detangled my hair to lessen the amount of tension. That was pointless! Reasons why I'm still peed off: 1) It's a day away from February and my natural curl pattern has not returned from a blow out received on Dec 10th. 2) I've washed my hair FOUR times and it still smells like burning hair. 3) And this has me the most annoyed, there are visible places through out my hair where my hair has broken off! I've never had an issue with hair sticking up from my scalp while twisted! Like, WTHeck do I do with those pieces?! SMH. My thick, healthy hair is no longer responding to my care. It's partly my fault, I was rushing to get to a work Christmas party and settled. I should've known better and made an appointment 2 weeks before to ensure that my regular stylist would be available. Conclusion: I was thinking about cutting my hair really short prior to but I guess it'll become a reality now. NATURALS, whomever this may apply to... if you are going back and forth, doing your due diligence, researching salons to ensure the health of your natural tresses, walk away baby...WALK AWAY! read more

Went in on 9/21/15 and asked two stylists if they still had the 35.00 roll awrap special which the rude young lady who had me standing in front of her for 5 minute, while she ignored me while being on her phone, finally acknowledged my presence. She and another stylist said yes to my question then I dropped off my daughter and then they changed the price after it was done. Tried to hold me hostage in their salon because I refused to pay their requested price. I paid the price they quoted me and let myself out. I have been going to this salon for three or four years and I have forgiven the stylist for getting perm in my left eye, leaving color on my head too long and leaving black dye on my skin, and burning my scalp but this was the last straw. Recently I went to 2 Star Dominican Salon to have my hair done for upcoming surgery young lady did my hair spoke no English and the young lady who did soon left out of there I requested my hair to be rolled blowed out and pin curls after my rose were taking out Natalie the manager was no longer there had left and then gone for 2 hours the young lady that was left there spoke very little English and could not do what I need it done this is why black women have stopped coming to the salon I should have known there was a problem when they no longer take cards do not waste your time do not go there the service is horrible and then had the nerve to want to charge me $55 to roll my hair run don't waste your time read more

It's a hit or miss here. Be prepared to get misleading prices here. Everytime I went I was charged a different price. They change girls it seems like every week so don't get used to having the same person do your hair. I once went with my friend who is also Dominican but looks black and she said that all they did was talk trash about all the customers. The middle of my hair is still recovering from the blow dryers from hell. They do get your hair straight but will the texture/curl pattern be the same after you leave is the question. read more

I give this salon one star just because my hair was laid when I walked out however the next day or so my hair began to FALL OUT!! Yes!! My hair is totally natural and I very rarely use heat, maybe once a year. I've had silk press and Dominican blow outs before however something was very different with this one. I'm not sure what was used to lay my hair down but I now have possible permanent burn marks on my scalp as well my hair is so much thinner than it used to be. This place is terrible. Why service a community that you obviously don't like or respect. I went here to get my braids taken out ( they were halfway out already) and a blowout. I ended up leaving with my hair cut in a million different pieces with no apology at all just the manager quiet waiting for the payment. The kicker is that she is the one who cut my hair being impatient while doing a service that I paid extra for!!!! I have been to this salon a number of times and its always different styles and management. I don't think the styles are licensed. They were not presented on the display. The receptionist was pleasant but the styles were not personable..barely spoke english, barely asked me what i wanted.Not good at hairstyling. I am a licensed beautician, I just wanted to go get a good shampoo and blow dry. I know I am a little more critical because of that but honestly they are mediocre. I would not say hair healthiness is there strongest quality. They were doing some little natural black girls hair. The girl looked to be in pain they presented attitude and did not make the kids feel comfortable while doing their hair.
