When the stylist finally began, her attitude and overall demeanor were noticeably negative, which made the experience uncomfortable. Additionally, the stylist started blow-drying my hair without applying a heat protectant. I had to request that it be used, which should be standard practice. Clients should not have to ask for basic hair care measures. I also found the pricing to be excessive for the level of service provided. Certain treatments, such as deep conditioning, are not included in some services and come at an additional cost. During my appointment, the stylist was whispering and gossiping with another stylist, which felt unprofessional. Overall, the salon appears to charge for many add-ons while not delivering a level of service that justifies the cost. Due to the poor customer service and lack of value, I would not recommend this salon.

I…read moreultimately felt I would've had to teach every part of my service to get it done to licensed standard. Of course I don't want to offend so I can't do that, instead "trust" their process. The issues: 1. My wash was not to standard. I did a scratch test & under my nails showed a lot of buildup still. A scalp should be clean after a wash. I told the girl not to be shy to scrub my scalp...I was only saying it once; I don't think she is licensed. 2. The braid down was horrendous, questionable, laughable. She "finished" and one braid was sticking out on one side, another braid on the other. I asked why didn't she connect all the braids as we agreed - that's how you protect the hair. She said "I tried but.." at that point I'm like you never tell a client you "tried but" there's no way she's licensed and should be doing hair. The braiding she did was loose also fuzzy & not clean. She gets flustered and turns me to tell the owner. The moment I ask the owners name (Mahogany btw) the owner became defensive even though I smiled relaxed just hoping for understanding & a solution. The "expert braider" is sent over to help. She says she can sew or crochet my loose natural braids into the other natural braids. I was confused as I'd NEVER heard that so asked clarifying questions which seemed to frustrate them. Totally over complicating a simple braid down lol. LSS she undos my entire braid down I noticed...mind you I had somewhere to be so without asking we reached hour 3 of a simple wash/natural braid on jaw length hair!!! Tired of the back n forth, misunderstanding, & pride/embarrassment they were all unnecessarily conveying I let her continue with the odd silence filling the air. She crochets my own hair and end pieces are sticking out its fuzzy I said I wasn't happy. 3. I got a trim. The blowout for the trim was not stretched straight and the owner proceeded to clip ends in that puffy state. The brushing of my hair felt rough throughout the trimming process. I've never had someone trim hair in that state. 4. The defensiveness, lack of listening to care therefore lack of comprehension, and pride was so not what I hoped when this is the exact persona ppl place on all black women/bwob that gives us a bad rep. I felt uncomfortable by the back n forth explaining and answering then the wild questions after "Do you want oil? Do you want oil sheen?" Would you seriously not oil a clients scalp as part of service how is that not standard? I had already noted my hair feeling dry. then before I even got out the chair the first girl had my payment on screen $58 asking how I'm paying when the expert braider turns my chair around. Terrible service handling. They can't handle constructive experiences which means they're no good for business. I cannot recommend.

I went to Tig for take down service of the hairstyle in the picture. This is the second time I've come here for take down service and been satisfied. As an African American woman who loves her protective styling, I loathe the take down process. Each time I've come here I've called the day of and been able to obtain same day services. I didn't have to schedule a month out like some places. I wasn't overcharged for length or size of braids. I wasn't overcharged for a wash and blow dry. I admit I was skeptical going to anyone [non-black] but I'm so glad I took a chance and you should too. They were gentle with my hair and used heat protection. Oh my take down included a shampoo, condition, blow dry, and flat iron. I opted to forego the flat iron because I wear it in its natural fluffiness. I thought they were kind and communicated what I wanted the entire time. I was in and out within 2.5 hours I think. Each time I've gone, it's only been max 4 people and that includes the stylists, which is nice. Some places are fast but packed and the customer service takes a back seat. A man a older lady and little girl came to open the shop about 10 mins after. Not sure who greeted me but she was very pleasant and immediately took me to the washing bowl to wash me. She was a little rough while washing but it was fine, I like to feel like my scalp is being throughly scrubbed from the dirt. I'm currently under the dryer now for a deep condition. The salon has nice decor, not too big and not too small. Looks to be very clean and neat..the man who opened the shop has been sweeping since I've been here. I will do a update when I'm heading out! (Here to get a deep condition, trim and blow out btw) ***Update**** Still didn't get the lady's name who doing my hair but she's the daughter of the older lady. To make a long story short, I love my hair! The hair dryer was sort of burning my scalp but everyone knows they use high heat. She kept making sure I was ok through the process and very friendly. She blew it straight, then flat ironed it, and trimmed then flat ironed it again to put some body to it (alot of heat!) I've been to Vheekie's twice & didn't have any issues, besides her wasting my time on one occasion, when she told me to come at a certain time to fix 2 braids that fell out, & she wasn't home. I took an Uber there, and had to take an Uber right back home. Then had to return a second time! This time around I had an appt. on Thur, Aug 20 @4:30pm. Let me be honest & say I was 25 mins late. I was about 15 mins running behind time, but then when reaching her neighborhood there was a naked man, who had striped in the middle of the street (Northveiw) & was dancing all over the place. Traffic was backed up, and I called 911 to get him help. Once I arrived she started my hair, but it was taking longer than normal. At 1am she said whatever wasn't finished at 2am, would have to be finished the next day, I said fine. 2am came and about 1 side still needed to be done. She said I should come back at 8am or 11am. I said Vheekie which one? That's a big time difference & I had to plan the day. She texted early in the am & said come at 11am. I made sure I left at a decent time & arrived at 11am. I texted & let her know I had arrived. I got no answer, so I came inside. She was braiding someone else's hair, I said should I wait in my car? She said yes. 12pm came nothing, 1pm came nothing, then soon after, I got a text from her saying she should be done soon. 1:30pm came and I saw the client leave. Vheekie did not inform me, I just saw her & texted her to ask if I should come in. She responded, I have to eat first, I said ok. At 1:40pm I decided to wait inside for her. She was preparing a meal on the stovetop, talking to some friends on speaker. I waited patiently in the living room, while she ate & talked, to about 2pm. Here it is I arrived at 11am on the nose, and she started my hair close to 2pm. I had a very important Black Tie event to go to; my Godson's going away to college/belated prom/graduation celebration. You'll know Class of 2020 didn't get the real celebrations this year. 2:55pm came and Vheekie said she had a dentist appointment to go to by 3:30pm. Mine you my hair was half done. I said Vheekie I have to get my hair completed, this was day 2. I couldn't miss the event, she said, "You're going to have to wear a hat". I'm like you're kidding right? She's like no! I was upset, but stayed calm, because I needed her to finish. She made calls to the dentist office, asking if she could reschedule. She said they said, the next appt. was mid Sept, and that they'd keep her $200 deposit if she didn't show this time. She stated she had canceled twice before. Then she claims to have called back & told them she wasn't feeling well & she needed to reschedule in order to keep her deposit. Then she claimed to have called back again & told them, she'd just come. With COVID-19, I know an office wouldn't tell you to come, if you just shared you were sick. Anyway she said she had to go, that we could finish the following day (day 3) or she could refer me to a shop in Lanham, who could finish my hair. She stated she would take care of the cost, since she couldn't finish it. Mine you I needed to be home at 5pm, latest 6pm, in order to leave by 7, to get to the event by 7:45pm. I get to the shop and the women have no idea on how to finish my hair. Originally I was just getting corn rolls, then Vheekie advertised a style that she wanted someone to model (rainbow braids). I volunteered, my original $25 deposit went towards this style, and she asked that I buy the hair. When someone models, you don't make them buy the products you're using, and pay for the service, which I mentioned to her. She ended up saying, keep my receipt & she'd reimburse me for the hair. When the braids were finally complete after 2 days, around 6:30pm Vheekie wanted to take pictures. I said sure, but I really have to go, so it has to be quick. I was now extremely late for the event. I thought she took 5-6 pictures, then I said Vheekie, please respect my time, I have to go & I left. Vheekie had my $25 deposit, she never reimbursed me for the hair, so what I owed her was technically $5.78 plus a tip, which is only voluntarily at this point (Cost of modeling a style for her was $90). The hair total that I purchased for her was $59.22. Minutes after she texts me 12-13 pictures that she took, and complained that they weren't nice enough. Then she sent multiple texts saying I owed the lady who helped with my hair $80, and that my hair was short; which it isn't, etc, etc. I just wanted to get to the event & she's calling & texting. I couldn't give her anymore energy. 4:30 am I get a message saying she charged my card $120. When I responded to her later in the am, she said she did that on purpose, JUST to get my ATTENTION!!! This is now FRAUD!!!

I also like their equipment and the seating was comfortable. I'll say that some of the stylists are really not good about replying to requests for information, and I usually had to call the salon to get a reply. The website is decent but really needs to be updated. A detailed FAQ section would save potential clients a lot of time. Both of these issues are easily fixable, though. Parking was usually fine & stress-free and it's on a major bus line.
