Brought my mom in to get checked out after a fall. They got us in quickly, were very kind and thorough, making sure to explain everything and sent us to get more testing done with another facility to rule out some things. The staff couldn't have been nicer, helping facilitate communication between primary care docs and the MRI facility to help get us where we needed to go! For a freestanding ER, this one tops the charts in my book! The facility itself was clean and comfortable, and they treated everyone that came in with the same kindness and professionalism you hope for. If I'm ever in need of emergency services, this will be my go to place!! read more

ATTENTION ALL PARENTS: If you need emergency care for your child, seek it elsewhere! Do not enter StarER with your child. StarER was founded and ran by local doctors in Lubbock, and over the years our family has had great experiences with their care, kindness, and treatment. Those days are no more, as this emergency room is now not only not locally owned or ran, but is filled with the most irrational, ego-driven, incompetent caregivers you can imagine. On a recent trip for our eleven year old's injured finger, she (at eleven!) was not treated with kindness or compassion at all and got an inconceivable medical experience. The doctor, Dr. Dale Curtis, proceeded to talk inappropriately to her and over her, threaten us as parents if we didn't conform to his every demand, refuse to help us get to a hospital we, as parents, were comfortable with, refuse to let us even leave, and demand "he'd rather protect himself from a possible lawsuit" than care for what was truly at hand. The nurse watched us, as competent, caring, concerned parents, be ostracized, disrespected in every way, wrongfully threatened with CPS, and unjustly treated from the most immature, unprofessional and belligerent behavior by a young UMC EMT brought in by StarER, but she did not stand up for us or our daughter. NO ONE cared that from the point of arrival and initial start of IV antibiotics the 11 year old patient was improving tremendously...fever down from 102.3 to 99.7, heart rate down to 130s from 150s and significantly less pain along with more movement in the extremity. Doctor wouldn't even look at her improvement when it was mentioned. Nor, would he provide blood work results, when asked multiple times. He had an agenda to punish a little girl's parents for the answers to their questions about vaccines and our choice of watching the injury for a couple days at home before getting treatment. Words of wisdom, you should not be punished for your choices when you seek help. Your child should not be punished by someone in a power-trip position over answers to vaccine questions or the decision as parents to watch an injury until signs of infection show up (at which point we sought immediate care). You should not be subjected to medical punishment for your personal choices when you need an emergency room visit if you are not breaking the law (which we very much were not) and it's evident the child is not in danger in our care. No parent should ever, EVER experience needing help for their child and then wrongfully being threatened with a doctor's demands or CPS as only options. No child should hear or experience a doctor pointing at a mother from across the room exclaiming multiple inappropriate things including "you should do what's in her best interest." Not to mention the repeated, very inappropriate conversations spoken to and over her by a so-called professional. No compassion, no common-sense. Nothing but indignified authority. So, the finale is, we complied with the doctor, nurse and EMT all of which shouldn't have a license to work with children, for the sake of our own child. When we got to "competent care" at a real facility, our daughter was not only treated with kindness (as were we as parents), but, from the minute she was unloaded from their demanded ambulance transfer to the time we got in our own vehicle to go home was less than an hour!! Their threats, scare tactics and demands were not in any way in her best interest, nor medically based. With no additional IV antibiotics and oral ones started, she had no fever the next morning, had movement and no pain in her finger, and heart rate was never a concern because competent doctors and nurses know a slightly elevated heart rate and low-grade fever is the body's way of continuing to fight the infection the antibiotics are helping with. (The "dumb" mom tried to express that to Dr. Curtis, but he and his pride-filled arrogance (and bragged on medical license) cared more about punishing parents.) The second opinion didn't threaten surgery or loss of finger like Dr. Curtis, they saw the improvement from infection. They were very right; not him and his immature, unprofessional decisions and (literal) finger-pointing; punishment/money-driven tactics.. Turns out the infection couldn't cause the "worst-case-scenarios" Dr Curtis and his nurse asserted because it wasn't even in correct tendon to cause those issues. The finger was FULLY healed in 3 days including follow-ups with qualified professionals (that included compassion in their care.) These people have no business caring for anyone, especially kids. Parents, no one deserves what we went through. No one. Please don't enter these doors with your child. There are kind medical personnel out there, with medical knowledge. I am unsure but I believe they tried to take my Yelp review taken down, so I am having to redo it. The most important details regarding my experience involve one of the staff members threatening to stab me in the eye with a needle while doing bloodwork, telling me to clean paper towels up off the floor, and tossing paper towels at me telling me to "wipe my damn face" (verbatim.) So if you decide to go here keep in mind there is no wait time for a reason. After my visit I continued to throw up over 24 hours and am now having to see a specialist. Would encourage anyone with a negative experience to contact the state medical board. read more

I do not recommend going here. I was visiting from out of town and got sick. I came to this hospital and paid my co-pay, just to be told by the doctor "you meet all the requirements for strep" and was sent on my way with antibiotics. The doctor didn't even run simple test like flu or strep. He checked my breathing with his stethoscope, that's it. I then received a $400 bill from my insurance. I will be disputing this. The next day, I was worse and could barely breathe. Since I was worse I had to visit the emergency room, again. I went to Exceptional Community Hospital Lubbock. I highly recommend going to Exceptional. At ECHL, they tested me and I was negative for strep and flu. I ended up having a cat scan was advised I had an Peritonsillar Cellulitis. I was given morphine, antibiotics, and a steroid with advice to follow-up with an ENT. I'm still in treatment, having to see Allergist, ENT, PCP and a GI Specialist. read more

Went in Friday after i twisted my ankle, I kept telling them it wasn't just a sprang I've had many sprang and this felt so much different. They did "X-rays" but wouldnt let me see them and Dr dale kurtis said I was fine just a sprang. mind you I couldnt feel my toes couldn't move them my whole leg was swollen but it's just a sprang ace bandaged it and sent me home. Two days later my inter foot is bruised and worse then it was Friday. I decided to go to the regular er. They did x rays all the things . turns out star er failed to do their job and I'm now in a boot for 8 weeks and if the fracture is still there I have to get surgery all bc I wasn't told on Friday. I want ppl to know that yall do not take care or injuries properly. PLEASE do not go there they will brush you off and send you home with a fractured foot and ankle. I went in during the wee hours of August 8, 2023. I had to wait about 30 minutes... no one else was in the lobby. When I finally saw the doctor, I was on the phone with 911 (completely unrelated), and I asked the only doctor working (an ugly hearted man in his 50s) if he could wait a moment. He LITERALLY said it's "now or never" which I perceived to be a joke... it wasn't. I had to talk to the police as there was an emergency situation... I said "well, I guess I choose never" to which he promptly ordered me out of the office. He didn't give me a chance to explain and had no respect for me as a young woman in need nor even as a human. Long story short. Back in December if 2019. Cost me $1500 for them the give my daughter an IV, run bloodwork showing that she had rhabdomyolysis. Instead of sending her to the hospital, which they should have, sent us home and told us to follow up with a pediatrician the next day. Next day, pediatrician is dumbfounded on why they would send her home. The doctor was so upset she demanded to know what doctor in his right mind sent us home. She sent us straight to the ER where my 6 year old daughter spent 4 days in the hospital being monitored 24/7. So on top of her hospital bills I'm having to pay this place for being the reason my daughter was almost placed in the ICU. Thanks Star Er, next time I'll just take her to the hospital. read more

I've had nothing but incredibly positive experiences at Star ER, which sounds weird about an ER, but they've been nothing but kind and helpful. I first found them by being recommended by an urgent care during COVID because all other ER's had a 3 day wait, but I got in at Star ER within five minutes and I always have. Everyone I've ever interacted with is funny, kind, fast, patient, and incredibly helpful. Even when I feel bad, they make me smile and help me to feel better immediately. Even if I feel bad later, they'll always take you back and won't let you leave feeling bad again. I've gone here for kidney stones and pneumonia several times and would continue to go again! read more

Billing department is shady and crooked (or front staff is uneducated at best). I went in and was told they did not want to file my insurance (I have a limited indemnity plan), but that I could be seen as self-pay and then would receive an itemized bill with all the necessary codes so that I could file with insurance myself and be reimbursed. I have a little bit of a medical coding background, so I asked to make sure that I would receive both the CPT and ICD-10 codes, and was assured that I would. After treatment, I clarified again that I would receive everything necessary to file a claim before allowing them to run my credit card. I was told for a 3rd time that I would receive an itemized statement in the mail. After waiting for the statement to arrive, imagine my surprise when I called the billing department and was told that they would NOT be giving me the necessary codes. I received only my medical records, which include only the diagnosis codes, and a copy of the credit card receipt. Beware if you have any insurance other than a major carrier!! read more

I really couldn't wait to get on a write a review. My husband was having some acute anxiety going on. We were greeted with kindness on arrival. Pulled back fairly quickly. There was attention to detail when it came to tests run, excellent communication, and sensitivity to the matter at hand. Very disappointed this evening. We have always bragged to everyone how much we love star ER and how we have always been treated well. Past experiences they have been so thorough and got us in and out quick. (Have used them 3 times previously). This evening, unfortunately, was a complete 360. We showed up with my wife running a 102 Fever and having trouble breathing , also with our two boys ( 2 & 4) with same issues. Unfortunately they didn't take insurance for our boys - no big that's out of their control. We decided to have my spouse looked at and we're going to take the boys to another facility that excepted their insurance. The lady checking us in was very professional, polite and attentive. After getting checked in , within 5-10 mins, a rude woman comes out and says " if your kids are not being seen , they will need to wait outside". To clarify we are the only patients in the entire place, I have a sick spouse who couldn't driver herself and we have two young children who are sick themselves. The children were crying and being a little louder than we wanted - however they are 2 & 4 and sick. Very disappointed and unfortunately won't return , nor recommend them to anyone anymore. Professionalism and compassion go along way in businesses , especially health care. read more

After getting turned away from another urgent care in the area for "not being that bad" we went to Star ER to get my boyfriend taken care of. We had a little trouble getting the workers comp information but that was on us. As soon as we got the paperwork the the front (they were incredibly sweet) we were back in maybe 5 minutes. Nurse came to look and then he went for x-ray and CAT scan. It came back clear, but we got referral to an orthopedic. We needed up going back a second time because his pain was unbearable and they were kind as ever. They aren't particularly set up for 'dying' patients and the hospitals won't take transfers from here, so anything that you don't think you'll need full hospitalization for, go here 100% read more

Went in late for very high blood pressure and feeling bad. Receptionist was great! Wasn't crowded. The nurse was hilarious and made me feel very comfortable. The dr was nice and thorough. I saw my primary care dr a few days later and showed him what was prescribed and I described the care they gave me and he said they did everything just right. No complaints. read more

October 1st, 10:30 we had visited Star ER for severe abdominal pain - the patient had been treated for gas and was sent home after being treated with a shot to pass the gas and a pill for nausea. The patient still in pain revisited for a second time and the patient was given heavy pain killers and had arrived in worse condition then what he had arrived the first time. They had preformed a CT and stated the gas had passed but there was still some "stuff" in his stomach. While helping the patient inside they nurses were little to no help getting the "I'm fixing to pass out," patient in the door and to his room. As a 95 pound woman I obviously am unable to hold up a 150 pound man. I was highly disturbed when we were told had we gotten the medication they prescribed he wouldn't be in the pain now, little do they know the third trip to the ER a doctor made us aware that had he taken the medication prescribed he could've passed. They began the lab work the second time we arrived, we were not released till 10:00 Sunday morning. The patient was then sent home for a second time and was later transported to an ER where we would find out he was in a septic condition and that his intestines had been leaking into his stomach which was causing the excruciating pain. He was rushed into emergency surgery Monday morning on October 3rd. Currently he was undergone 4 surgeries. Any emergency center should be a little more helpful than this one. read more

If I could put zero stars I would!! They were so cold and heartless to my daughter! She went in not being able to breathe because of covid. Dr had NO bedside manner! Was rude and cold! Their job is to help people in pain, discomfort and sickness! They take an oath & are suppose to uphold it! My roommate went in right when they opened on a Sunday. There was only two people in front of us. After waiting two and half hours and two more people came in and they got to go before us. I was seen on 4/1 after falling at home. I could barely put pressure on my right foot. According to my EOB's, 2 (sets) x-rays were done (billed to my insurance twice at $495) for Dr. DeMoore to come in and say it was just a sprain. I was given an ace bandage and sent on my way. Luckily, I did follow up with another facility/Dr. on the following Wednesday and sure enough there is a fracture. I received my records yesterday, which do show AFTER I was discharged the fx was recognized. It shows a callback to me was completed. I do remember having a missed call from their phone #, however I don't remember if it was the day after or 5 days later. I would think a voicemail would've been left since I was misdiagnosed while I was actually there. read more

The ER staff were great, very kind and on the spot. I was in and out in less then 45 min. Dr and Nurse were also great for a 2am visit.

If I could put 0 stars I would. My wife woke up throwing up like the exorcist. I mean full on bile just going. She could barely walk because she was giving so much pain in her abdomen and lower back. When I say my wife is tough, I mean she is tough. She never complains of anything hurting, and she was in tears. She was clammy with a fever, and Star ER was the closest place we could find open at 6 in the morning on a Sunday. So we get there and the reception was nice enough. We were the only people there. The parking lot was empty (should have been a red flag), and we went right to the back. The nurse came in and took her blood pressure, and the technician guy (not sure of the actual title) but the one who does scans and stuff came to ask if she had a fever. I told them she did, and they just took my word on it. Her blood pressure was a little high. Nothing to be concerned about. Another female walked in and asked her what was going on. My wife explained her symptoms and the woman walked out. We later on found out she was the doctor. No introduction, and she didn't even push on her abdomen which is something you would think would be done. My wife peed in a cup and blood was taken. The nurse came back and hooked her up to an iv and administered pain meds. Almost an hour later the Doctor came in and asked how she was feeling. My wife was high as a kite by then and said she was feeling great. The doctor walked out. If you want to call it that. She basically stuck her body halfway in the door to ask and then shut it before she could finish her answer. Another hour, and we were sent home with what they said was a stomach bug and a prescription for zofran. I see now that I should have asked more questions and pushed for more to be done, but we had been up since 3 am and running off little sleep. I also put my trust in the place to do what was best for her so I didn't see a reason to question it. Again, I see I was wrong.Surprise, surprise that I ended up having to take my wife to another emergency room where they actually looked at her and took care of her. I would not recommend this place at all. The doctor seemed like she was annoyed she had patients. I'm sorry. I mean a patient. read more

Woke up in pain, later found out I was in need of an appendectomy. I was treated with great care here and surprisingly quickly before I was transferred to my surgery destination. Special shout out to my nurse Brook who took the time to casually chat with me and constantly ask if there was anything I needed. 5 stars to Brook! read more

Horrible staff starting from the front staff,who had no medical knowledge, and constantly huffed and puffed her breath because she had to check me in, going back to the arrogant, insensitive Dr. Weatherford. He made me feel like I was an inconvenience for coming into the ER on Friday night. As if that was my exact plan, to spend the evening in the ER. The male nurse kept cutting me off while doing what he calls an intake. And the topping on this horrible experience was hearing this so called doctor complain about my situation to the male nurse while at the nurses station. My door wide open and Dr. Weatherford and the male nurse discuss how they don't know why I came in and how annoyed they were because it was Friday night. I got my things and left, arrived at UMC, informed them of my situation and within minutes I had blood drawn, an EKG performed and treatment started. I thought going to a smaller ER would be more personal care and I was very very wrong. Never recommend going here!!!!!! read more
