This place is somewhat pricey compared to other shops but to me it's well worth it. They are extremely aware of the importance of sanitation. You bring your own file, that you purchase from them for $1, they open new clippers every time and they use sanitized bags and even jets for the pedicure chairs. They have a huge selection of gel colors, some that I've never seen elsewhere but are so unique. They have multiple pedicure choices, with the higher ones including a complimentary beer or wine. I haven't had an outstanding nail technician that I prefer over anyone else there. They are all good but so far none have been outstanding. Besides that though, this place is great and I highly recommend trying it. Regardless if you are having a fancy girls day and to unwind with a drink and foot mask or just need regular upkeep, this is the place to go. read more

I wanted to get a pedicure over this past summer because I had a week off from work and I wanted my feet to look pretty as I lived in my sandals during my vacation. After doing some research here on Yelp, I decided to go with Star Nails. My first impression of this place was a good one. It was clean, bright, and the employees there were friendly. As other Yelpers have said, they give you a little box of tools to keep and bring back with you. I like that a lot. Since I had never been there before, I didn't really care who gave me my pedicure. I ended up with a lovely lady named Tea. She was smiley, nice, and she definitely knew what she was doing. She gave me an absolutely perfect and wonderful pedicure. I couldn't get over how soft my feet felt after that! I have to wear closed-toed non-slip shoes since I work in a restaurant, and I had apparently a few calluses due to that. She got rid of every single one and her polish application was pure perfection. She makes it look like an art. I also told her I was a bit ticklish on the bottom of my feet, especially on my arch, and she did that part as fast as she could, even though we had a good time laughing at my ticklishness. Terrible service and crappy manicure. I was looking forward to a place with good yelp reviews. But I don't think this place meets the standards of "big city" salons. There were two ladies getting acrylics done and the place smelled terrible. While their manicurists were wearing masks, I was sitting very close by and wish they offered me a mask, too. The ventilation in there is bad. My manicurist said "it was better for my lungs when it smelled bad." I'll just let her words hang in the air... My manicurist (Nini) did not even ask if I wanted square cut or round nails and just clipped them into these awful square shapes. I had to ask her to file them to a round shape instead, which she did aggressively. She was also very unfriendly and barely spoke. The hand lotion they use also smells funky. She did a double coat on my nails without asking first (I prefer a single coat). She left some polish on my skin so I had to ask someone else for a stick and remover. When my manicurist was informed, she seemed annoyed that I found her mistake. She just made me feel awkward and uncomfortable even though I thanked her for fixing it. I sat there with a primitive little fan blowing on my nails for at least 15 minutes, but the minute I walked out several of my nails smudged because double coated nails take so long to dry and smudge so easily! I've had to wipe off the polish completely on 3 nails. They probably would have smudged even 30 min later. I'll say the front desk receptionist was very polite and nice. I felt obliged to leave a tip just because I always do, but I"ll be doing a chargeback on my credit card for the manicure and won't be coming back here. read more

Without hesitation, the cleanest, the most polite and professionally run nail salon in the desert. You pay $2.00 the first time for a box of your own brand new files that you get to keep and bring each time. They have an English speaking expediter who schedules, makes appointments, checks you in, and gets you set up for your service. Such a better way than having a tech yell at you to pick your color when you walk in the door. Their pedicure massage chairs are in tip top condition, and they use a new plastic liner with each client. I hate sitting in broken down chairs where all the padding and back cushions are flat. These are great. Christina gives the best pedicures I've had outside of a day spa, and she treats you like you are at a fancy spa. Rosy does my nails, and I am super picky, they are thin, properly shaped, and beautiful. My cousin gets the fancy artistic nails with all the goodies, and by far, Lin does the most creative artistic nails I've seen, and the gems and designs they offer here are endless. I love this place. Don't let the outside of this building fool you. The inside is beautiful, and they have English speaking tv programs intended for female viewers playing on several big flat screens. Nothing irritates me more than going into a nail salon and watching my technician watching Asian tv soap operas while doing my nails. Makes me crazy. Not here, there is no yelling amidst technicians in Vietnamese, they speak quietly to each other, mostly in English, and it just feels respectful. read more

I live in the bay area but my mom lives in Hesperia. Whenever I go home to visit her and my step-dad I am always a bit lost when it comes to things to do in the high desert. I went down a couple of months ago and had some time on my hands so I yelp'd a couple of places to see where I could get a good manicure/pedicure and wax. When it comes to manicure/pedicure I am not super picky as long as the people are friendly, they don't cut me/make me bleed, and they have to be clean. The ladies here are all very friendly and personable. They make you a set of your own emery boards and utensils that they use on you during your pedicure, which ensures that they process is clean! They put your name on it and store it away for your next visit. One thing I am very picky with is my waxing. I burn easily and I hate trying any place new. So many places keep the wax way hotter than it needs to be and my skin just doesn't like it. I will burn and scab up. It's disgusting, so I pay particular attention to the method and heat of the wax. The lady who did my wax did an excellent job. The wax was not hot but I told her of my concerns and she made sure to that the wax was cool before she applied it each time. She did a great job with the eyebrow arch and cleaned my face off properly- no wax residue left behind. I was really happy to find this gem in the high desert. read more

Went in 15 minutes late for my appointment (oops) and they still took me (called to let them know we were running late, but on our way) wait before being taken back was less than 5 minutes. I've been a customer of Star nails since 2005. For the last 2 to 3 years I've noticed a change. They never have opening for anything. Everyday is booked up. No walk in appointments ever! It's pretty ridiculous. I've never experienced this from a nail salon. Their work has been lacking as well. The gel isn't applied correctly and will peel. I've done manipedis in major cities, and this is the first time I've had I one in the HD. I was referred by a friend who touts Star as the best in the area, so I thought I'd give it a shot; my digits needed the pampering. Wendy, a short Vietnamese woman, was my technician. She presented my pedicure options (I definitely recommend the European Pedicure) and began work on my feet right away. As I'm ticklish with my feet, she was understanding and even found my laugh a bit contagious at times; cracking a genuine smile or chuckling with others. She is concerned about the comfort of her clients, and will often nonchalantly look to see if you are comfortable. The nail clipping and cleaning were painless, her touch with the scrubs and the lotions were heavenly, and the paraffin treatment was 'to die for'. The temperature in the establishment was cool and comfortable, and the presentation of the facility was clean and conscientious. Like any business in the high desert, there are some cosmetic updates that could be done to the interior, but their attention to cleanliness and prevention is excellent. The staff are friendly and full of smiles. On a weekend, they do have a tendency to be busy and accept appointments, book an appointment. They do take credit cards and will allow you to add a tip to your charge, however cash is always a preferred gratuity for those working in the services industries. During my visit, I did note that I was the only male receiving services, which is not unexpected for the region. Given the great job, I hope to see more male clientele for this company in the future. I went to him a few times and never had a complaint , but decided to go to another spot which was a mistake and I wanted almond shaped nails and they gave me super skinny stilleto nails and VQ was able to reshape my acrylic without making me get a whole new set. Definitely would recommend him to others. And I was my total was $37 for a fill, with gel , and a fix on a broken nail , plus reshaping all my nail. Not bad for as much work as he did. It's only about $2, but it is sanitary so you're not sharing with a bunch of other people. It comes with a nail file & buffer, but be sure to bring it with you everytime you go! I'd like to give this place more stars but the last few times I've gone there, I just haven't really enjoyed it at all. I went once with my mom and we were talking to each other about a relative and a family struggle they were going through while our toes were soaking and the woman doing my pedicure was constantly adding her two cents about it and that made me uncomfortable. On top of that, I think they're over priced for the job they usually do. I'm not saying they did a bad job the times I went in, but I've had better jobs done at other salons for a whole $5 cheaper per service. Plus they make you buy a "box" with nail clippers and a file and you have to take it with you the next time you visit or you have to purchase another box. I don't care about the salon enough to have to do all that so its easier to go some where else. read more

I just moved here from Orange county. It had been weeks since my last manicure due to moving and getting settled. I kept saying... ooh I can wait another day and or I'll be down there next week. well weeks went by - I used glue and well I am paying the price for that mistake now. I looked on Yelp read reviews and chose STAR NAILS 1 the receptionist was AWESOME very courteous prompt FRIENDLY and knowledgeable. I was looking at a few nail designs using different color acrylics and well I chose a design and the scheduled manicurist Kathy said NO not going to do it. (it was more $$ for the colored acrylics). I was pleased that the manicurist was honest with me so I got the light pink acrylic with beautiful hand painted flowers and she even placed little rhinestones at no extra charge big tip for her. Went here a week ago to get a pedi. The nail place I usually go to was booked, and I needed to get a pedi so I went here instead. Which was a big mistake, definitely won't make that mistake again. The Hispanic lady (don't know her name) who did my pedi did an awful job!!! She wasn't friendly at all!!! Very rude when I told her she was hurting me! She cut my toe nails too short. She cut my toe nails to the point where when she was using nail file, she was filing my skin. It was very painful!!! She cut my pinky toe so short that you can barely see I have a toe nail there. I'm usually not one to complain, but my experience at Star Nails was absolutely terrible! I 100% recommend that you go somewhere else worth the money! Star Nails wasn't one of those places! Unfortunately, my first time there will be my last! I'll just start off by saying how unprofessional everything was there. The nail technician who did my nails explained she was new, which was clear to see after her countless mistakes. It's one thing to make mistakes, but when you're inflicting pain on other's...it's simply NOT okay! She first started off by drilling my gel nails, which I had no intention of getting acrylics done. After she put the wraps on, she started working on my pedi. She also decided to drill my toe nails and then got some skin, which made me jolt. After two occurrences of me jolting due to the shocking pain, she exclaimed that I had sensitive feet. She went on the continue my pedicure, and told me she had only been there for 3 weeks. She also, exclaimed that she had 11 years of experience...so I gave her the benefit of the doubt. After my pedicure was done, she started working on my hands. That's where it truly went down hill! She started drilling my nails more and more till they were so flimsy, brittle, and weak. Mind you, I had grown my nails super strong and they were very solid and very long. As she was cleaning my nails with one of her tools, she cut me on one of nails. Then she moved on to my right hand and cut me pretty deep on one of my fingers. No exaggeration...I was bleeding for 20 minutes! 20 minutes! She had me go to the restroom to wash off my hands then tried to blame that I hit my hands, and I said, "No! It's from when you cut me." She started gluing the cut and putting alcohol on it, which burned like hell might I add! Then, all the nails technicians came around and started helping her and told me to hold my finger up. I was pretty upset at this point, but it made it worse as the owner came. She saw the blood and asked if I took blood thinners. I exclaimed that I didn't, and she had the nerve to say, "Then, why are you bleeding like that?" And I said, "Because she cut me! And then tried to glue my finger and put alcohol on it!" I had never been to a nail salon, where I was being tortured and then blamed for the torture. The same nail technician was going to leave the gel bubbly on the nail that was bleeding constantly. She removed the gel nail polish once I complained to her how it didn't look good and the bleeding had FINALLY stopped. In the end she did apologize and they didn't charge me for a manicure, but the only person who helped me was the nice lady at the front desk. That's the only reason why this place would get 1 star from me. The worst part is that two days after my manicure...my nails started breaking underneath the nail line, which caused some excruciating pain. It's easy to get over the cuts, but the fact that long term damage was done to my nails and I was being blamed for their mistakes is absurd. Extremely disappointed for this very unprofessional establishment. Save yourself the trouble, pain, and torture. Go to somewhere they pamper you & give you the luxurious treatment you deserve! read more

Day 4 and my thumb nails just breaks off, I've never had a nail break so easily and so fast. I am disappointed to say the least. The guy who did my nails was incredibly rude. He refused to do my friends nails who was before me because she wanted to do a French tip but he claimed her nails were too short. (She ended up getting them done just how she wanted when she went to someone else at the same salon) I was upset at how rude he was to both her and I. I am very frustrated and very pissed off quite frankly. First of all I go in for a fill, I've been coming to this place since my teen years and never really had an issue, I ask for a fill and the lady doing them is sitting next to lily I've never seen her before but again I've never had an issue so it's fine. On of my nails was broken but the rest just needed a fill, my nails are almond shaped with a pointy tip they are already shaped just need one fix and a fill as she is fixing my one broken nail I notice the shape is off it is not pointy at the tip so I ask her to add a point she measures it next to the other one that is already shaped and insists it's the same I tell her a few more times and she files it slightly but it's still the same and she managed to cut me with the file while doing it she never makes any conversation nothing once she is done I go up to pay and it's $34 how the hell?! I asked the girl at the front why and she said "because it gel and because we had to shape your nails" I was pissed! My nails were already shaped all she did was fill and fix one of them! So I told her she didn't do a very good job so she asked me if she could fix it before I left I was so aggravated already I said no and left. $34 for a fill and a broken nail, I ended up with a cut finger and a crooked new nail. I will never be back. For that price I could get a whole new set. read more

I will never go anywhere else. This place is SUPER clean. They use disposable liners for the pedicures. Everyone gets their own nail file, nail buffer, and even nail bits which is an awesome idea so you know you aren't getting someone else's germs. So many gel colors to choose from and even matching regular nail polish for your toes. Everyone is super nice and their work is just amazing. I recommend that everyone in the high desert come here. The overall ambience of the shop is very relaxing. By the way I've had my eye brows waxed here and will not let anyone else touch my eyebrows.
