I was at Cracker Barrel, and happened to drive by and saw this mail shop. I'll definitely be honest, I didn't read the reviews, but I did check in. I needed a pedi and mani bad. Lisa did my manicure, and David did my pedicure. I usually get a French pedi and mani, but not this time. I got white polish for both my nails and toes. Started going here a few months ago and I'm really happy I did. At my old salon I'd have a broken nail every week. Now my nails don't break at all. Everyone that works there is laid back and super nice. The waiting area has comfy couches to sit on if you have to wait a bit too. Really glad I made the switch to star nails. read more

I walked in there and they were extremely disrespectful, knowing they had paying costumers standing right in front of them. Star nails wasnt my first choice, but all of my other options were booked. Short review: the pedicure was pretty good and the manicure was excellent. I knocked one star off because the ambiance could be a little more soothing. More detailed review: I've been looking for a good pedicure in Ottawa because I have a vacation home in the area and spend quite a bit of time here. I called for an appointment and was able to get right in. The exterior is rather generic, but once inside, it's very clean and inviting. Fluorescent lighting takes away from the atmosphere, though. I was greeted right away and offered a beverage. They have an amazing selection of color options in polish or gel. I opted for polish on my toes and gel for my nails. As I said, the pedicure was decent. I will definitely come back. I was a little anxious about the mani. I maintain natural nails, and sometimes a manicurist will be too rough. Not here! She treated my nails with due care and did an outstanding job! I regret that I didn't get her name. Overall, Star Nails is a quality salon and I encourage you to give them a try! read more

Went in with some friends for homecoming nails. I asked for black nails with a coffin shape and silver details like in the first picture. As you can tell, they were square, kind of matte, and the edges were not the glitter I asked for. Not to mention they lasted only a few days before peeling up, breaking off, and chipping. Lucky I made the appointment just one day before homecoming or I would have had to tear the off and get press on's. $70 later, I wish I did get press on's. The price was determined by an owner (I assume) inspecting my nails for a solid 30 seconds and deciding what she wanted them to be. Not to mention, they charge a significant fee for those using card and have an ATM they recommend you use instead. They never told me this to begin with though. Maybe i've just been to some incredible nail places, but never have I ever gotten a result so homemade looking. Never will I ever spend my money there again. read more

First visit, last visit. I got the dip nail service. Color ended up way too dark and very lumpy. I had residue on my fingers. 2 days later, on several nails it looks like I had them done a week ago. My nails don't grow that fast. I had rough cuticles that weren't pushed back. Lesson learned. read more

I usually do not leave reviews but I felt I needed to share. I have gotten a lot of pedicures in my lifetime and this was probably one of the worst ones I have had. The basic pedicure (which I believe they recently changed) does not include the scrub, which I have always had as standard. Reading what was included in mine he did not file my nails, use any cuticle gel on my toes, and no calf or lotion massage. When letting them know (and I was very kind) they just looked at me and wanted me to pay. I did pay without the tip. I kindly said "unfortunately I will not be coming back". Horrible service. I got the dip there. I have an extremely busy schedule so I travel a lot and have to attend different nail salons. They seriously did a horrible job on my nails. I asked for them to be short and the girl refused to cut them shorter, she didn't understand how to do dip. My nails have chipped within one day. I'm not one to typically do this but our experience was horrible and I feel it needs to be shared. Tonight, I took my 8 year old daughter and my 4 year old niece to get our nails done. I have a wedding to go to this weekend and I thought it would be fun for the girls to have a little girls spa day. I got a pedicure and the girls got their toe nails and nails painted. I went in with pretty low expectations for the girls nails knowing that they are little and they would most definitely get messed up. I was fine with that, it was about the experience and time together. As soon as we sat down, my 4 year old niece was asked by the owner if she was a naughty girl or a good girl. I said "She's a good girl, that's why she's here, it's a special treat" I started getting my pedicure from a super nice man. It was a great pedicure overall but I kept watching as the owner continuously harassed the girls. She painted Kinzley's nails and told her to sit still and not move... then she came to my niece's chair and my niece who is very small for her age couldn't reach the foot rest, she slid down a little and almost fell in the foot bath... the owner reached down and caught her and then said she saved her and if she hadn't then she would have cried... I said "Hal, would you have cried if you fell or would you have been brave?" Trying to lighten the mood a little... Halle said "I would have been brave, I wouldn't have cried" The owner then proceeded to say "Let me push you down then and see if you cry" then laughed.. Halle sat perfectly still while getting her nails painted, she was so excited to have them pretty and pink. The owner kept saying, "If you move you're a bad girl, don't move!" I kept nicely reminding Hal to sit still so she didn't mess up her pretty nails... also trying to show this lady there is a much nicer way of telling her to sit still... After the 10th time of this lady calling Halle bad and telling Halle that she was going to have to be left there to clean the shop because that's what bad little girls do... I finally spoke up and said that Halle was in fact not a bad girl, she had sat amazingly well for a little girl of her age and that if she had cleaning to do maybe she should go do that instead of harassing the girls. Halle started crying, Kinzley got up to comfort Hal and messed up her toe... so that sent the lady into another tizzy... I never asked her to fix it, like I said, I knew they were going to be messed up before we even left the salon, that wasn't the point of coming. I then go to get my nails done and I say very clearly that I want white tips. The man said something to the woman across the shop and he said this will be good and strong.. I again repeated myself that I just wanted white tip acrylic nails. I was moved across to another woman who I again said I just want plain acrylic nails with white tips. She said okay... The girls came and sat by me, terrified anytime the owner walked by because they didn't want her to see that they had messed up their nails again (Which again, was fine with me...the person paying for them) When it was time to pay... the lady said I owed about $40 more than what I had anticipated... because she did pink and white nails instead of acrylic... even after I said numerous times what I wanted and she said she understood.. There wasn't a language barrier, she spoke good English... This was overall a terrible experience and I am really upset with how they treated the girls and feel completely taken advantage of having to pay for something I didn't ask for nor did I want.. My friend, who rarely goes to a nail salon, went to this salon yesterday to get a mani/pedi prior to her mother's funeral today. The pedicures were fine, done by Lana, then my friend got her manicure assigned to a gentleman who's name I am not sure of. As I was sitting under the dryer for my toes, this gentleman told my friend to pay now before he polished. She handed him a credit card. He said they don't take credit cards anymore. Neither one of us were told this in advance and neither one of us were carrying cash. He then said they accept venmo or they would have to charge her 10% of the total to use her credit card. I told her I had venmo and we could just put it all on mine and we could settle up later. She was getting frustrated, because she was having a hard time understanding his accent, and said, no, just put it on my card. When he brought her the receipt, he had added my pedicure on her tab, when she questioned it, he starts to yell at her! You told me to put it all together! Which she hadn't because I heard the entire conversation. She said no, thats not what I said. He then starts ranting in vietnamese, pushes away from the table, walks away and comes back with $35 in cash, not including the 10% amount for the $35. She didnt say anything but was obviously annoyed. He starts yelling at her again, I just gave you your money back! What more do you want?! She said, I just want my nails done. He keeps yelling at her. She starts crying and he pushes away from the table, starts yelling in Vietnamese and Lana walks up and takes over, trying to console my friend. He walks in the back room still ranting and my friend knows he ranting about her and gets even more upset. I'm trying to find tissues for her and trying to console her and NOT ONCE did the owner, who was sitting 2 stations away, turn to see what was going on or even try to rectify the situation. The entire ordeal was absurd and we will NEVER be going back. After telling our friends about it, their responses have been, yeah, we will never go back there because they have all had varying degrees of poor service. APPALLING is the best description I can give about our experience. And to treat my friend so terribly the day before her mother's funeral. Unforgivable!! read more

To say my experience here was bad is an understatement. Under NO circumstances should an employee yell at a customer. It was uncalled for, uncomfortable and a bit strange. I was having a very difficult time understanding him and he got upset with me. Huh? So you yell?? i was very upset and just wanted to get my nails finished. He had to be replaced by another employee who at least identified this behavior as WRONG. She tried to calm me down which was nice however, she wanted to remind me that she did my toes, not my nails. Wanting to clarify her tip money! Just an all around bad experience where I wasn't treated with respect. Even more disturbing, the owner sat there the entire time without ever saying a word to me, other than "bye" on the way out. That is unacceptable. She, of all people, should be looking out for her customers!! Sadly, she did not try to make my visit any better. But why? It seems it all comes down to greed and money. I will never go back. when I first saw this place, I was iffy about it. But, I had a woman named Lana do my nails and she was amazing. Now I only want her to do my nails . she does such an amazing job. I'm not sure how this business has so many customers. Maybe it was just the lady I got twice that is just the bad one. I came here a week ago and left with nail polish all around my nails and the polish was choppy around my cuticles. No straight lines just for regular polish. Within 4 days my nails chips with gel polish. So I called and they said I could come back to get the ones that chipped fixed. So i come back and get the same person who did it the first time. And again, looks horrible. How can you call yourself a nail salon if I'm leaving with nail polish on my cuticles. One of my nails feels stuck to my cuticles because there's so much polish in the cuticle. There must be some good workers here if they still have business. So if you do decide to come here, just don't get the older lady in her 60s. She has a thumb nail that she tries to clean around the edges (that doesn't even work) that is deathly. She also cut my cuticle with her clippers. She kept saying sorry but what they need to do is take her off the floor. I was as nice as possible to them. But I paid $40 for this.
