Good food, service wasn't the greatest but the food more than makes up for it. Not to spicy but just enough for people who want some spice

Since Yemeni coffee and tea options aren't common for everyone, they take the time to explain the menu and answer questions, which I really appreciated. However, the Adeni Chai was the only saving grace of the visit. It was flavorful and well made, but the coffee was a massive disappointment. I tried the Jubani after the staff described it as a delicious light-roasted coffee packed with caffeine, but in reality, it tasted like bland cardamom water with absolutely no coffee flavor or body. It felt like I was just drinking hot spiced water. The atmosphere was also a major issue as there was no seating available whatsoever. The crowd was mostly of Middle Eastern descent and many were incredibly rude; people will bump right into you and not say a word. Even worse was the way some customers spoke to the workers, it was absolutely deplorable. Honestly, who raised you? It was uncomfortable to witness. The dessert selection was even worse. Most of what we ordered felt stale and old. The only thing worth eating was the bubble dessert with cheese because they actually toast it. We tried both the pistachio milk cake and the pistachio dream cake, and neither was impressive. The khattafi in the pistachio dream was the biggest letdown; it was so stale and bland I can't believe they actually put it out to sell when it was clearly weeks if not months old. The basboosa was also a disappointment, as it was a very small square of semolina cake for almost $5. Overall, It is not a good place for coffee or desserts, so if you do go, stick strictly to the Adeni chai.

Person who took my order was nice and recommended the strawberry matcha. They took their time making it. I will say it's a bit pricey. The drink was perfect once it was blended! Will return to try their coffee soon.

We ordered a whole range of things including chicken kebab, chicken gyro, tahini cauliflower,…read morelabneh, and hummus. Everything was delicious, but I'll leave the food writing to the Yelpers with more sophisticated palates than I. (Actually, I take that back--the fresh-baked pita was amazing and I would eat it with/for every meal if I could.) The real reason I wanted to leave a review the service, which went above and beyond. Let me start by saying that Al Basha takeout has a wonderfully efficient order-number-based system for managing the hundreds of orders they get on a daily basis. But if, say, the person who placed the order sent you to pick up the food with the wrong order number, you're going to struggle, and that's not the restaurant's fault. With that prelude and without getting into the details, we'll just say there was a user error issue with my order that led to a mix-up and a very late pick-up. Everyone from the Al Basha staff with whom I interacted could not have handled it any better. They were very apologetic, not because they did anything wrong (to be clear, they didn't), but because they were disappointed our meal hadn't gone well and wanted to fix that. The top priority of the manager with whom I dealt was making sure that my wife--it was Mothers' Day--got the best meal possible, and made sure to send me home with fresh bread and a treat for the moms. It was true hospitality, and greatly appreciated. TLDR version: great food, excellent service, out-of-this-world pita, and make darned sure you have the right order number.

The chicken kebab was dry and the shawarma was a bit too sour for my liking (not sure if they squeezed lemon on it or something). The kofta was okay but nothing spectacular. The filet mignon, was a major let down. My server didn't ask how we'd like it cooked, which is medium rare for my family. It came back well done. He said everyone usually prefers it to be well done, but I think that's a mistake that shouldn't be made and preference should always be asked, especially with steak. We asked for it to be swapped, and it still came back well done. When we let them know again, they brought it back a little on the rare side, which is fine for my family, but had it been another family, not so sure. I'm sure they have hundreds of orders for the char grilled meets, so I'm a little confused on why the technique has not already been established My favorite dish had to be the makanik - which is pan seared lamb sausages finished with sweet and tangy pomegranate molasses. I usually don't like lamb because of the gamey flavor but these sausages didn't have that. I didn't taste much of the pomegranate molasses. The arugula & beet salad would've been good if the pomegranate molasses vinaigrette was less sweet. The stuffed grape leaves were also a bit too sour. The lemon was just taking over the entire flavor profile. I didn't really taste the tomato or parsley. The falafel platter was good but nothing different than other falafels that I've had. The mint lemonade was so refreshing. Almost everyone in the restaurant had one and I understand why. The mint is not overpowering I had high expectations because I've seen this place on instagram but I'm afraid they were not met. Service was good, but the food definitely needs some work. There's valet parking, which i recommend because it's hard to find street parking

The smiling pretty face young lady Riham said we are welcome to come in and she would feed us. We were 7 adults. Every one picked their choice and all the food turned delicious. The appetizers were superb. The falafel, the kabab, the chicken, the Ouzi were done to perfection. Riham was courteous and kept the place open for us way beyond their closure time. They were very soft and good but could be better in terms of flavor. The chicken tikka was too salty. The bread is delicious and fresh. The fries were delicious and comes with a interesting turmeric/mustard type sauce. The pickled vegetables are an acquired taste; very salty. The quzi is lamb shank with rice and comes with either bean or okra soup. I liked the okra soup better since it had some acidity from the tomatoes. The lamb shank was very tender but I wish it came with some sauce or lemon. The rice is a bit sweet due to the rasins. The prices are a bit high but there are not many Iraqi restaurants in the region.

I don't think we be coming back here again. When i asked one of the staff what is this wthat comes with the paratha Omelet and the staff gave me an attitude and said it's patistani bread like i should have known. 5/5 Stars - Jalwa in Montclair Is the Real Deal. And Then There's Nayan…read more There are restaurants you enjoy, and then there are restaurants that rearrange something in your brain. Jalwa in Montclair is the second kind. The space sets the tone immediately -- upscale but unpretentious, modern without being cold, the kind of room that makes you settle in and order one more thing. The menu is a love letter to Indian cuisine with a contemporary sensibility: bold, aromatic, deeply flavorful, and -- remarkably -- one of the most vegan-friendly dining experiences I've ever had anywhere. Not vegan-tolerant. Vegan-excellent. Modifications are handled with genuine expertise, and the results are full, satisfying, and never feel like a consolation prize. We started with crispy vegetable samosas packed with spiced potato and peas, and a couple of other appetizers that hit like a warm, fragrant wave. The dal was rich and creamy with flavor that built beautifully with every bite -- the kind of dish you find yourself thinking about days later. The vegetable biryani was fragrant and perfectly spiced. The curries, customized fully vegan, were outstanding. The garlic naan was soft, pillowy, and genuinely addictive. Every plate was generous, nothing was heavy or oily, and spice levels were adjusted exactly as requested. It was Indian cuisine firing on all cylinders. But I have to talk about Nayan. I have to. In twenty-something years of dining out, I have never -- not once -- encountered a server who so completely elevated a meal through sheer force of warmth, knowledge, and genuine care. From the moment Nayan greeted our table, it was clear we were in exceptional hands. He walked us through the vegan options with the fluency of someone who actually loves this food. His pairing suggestions were perfect -- every single one. He checked in at exactly the right moments, never hovering, always there. His energy was magnetic without being performative. He made us try dishes we would have skipped and we were grateful every time. This is not hyperbole: Nayan is one of the best front-of-house professionals I have ever encountered. He doesn't just serve a table -- he orchestrates an experience. Jalwa is lucky to have him, and whoever is in charge of promotions there should act fast, because someone with his talent, instinct, and people skills has a very bright future ahead -- in this industry or any other. If I could leave six stars, the sixth one would be just for him. Book a table at Jalwa. Ask for Nayan. Thank me later.

The highlight was the saffron butter crab - that umami flavor was insane. The honey lotus was crispy and packed with flavor. The Goan fish curry was satisfying and not spicy at all which we both appreciated. I also enjoyed the 3 complimentary sauces on the table - none of them were too spicy. I highly recommend this place! The service was great as well.
