They don't make appointments but said if I came on Friday at noon, there would be a minimal wait. So I showed up Friday at noon and it was an hour wait. I went across the street to do some shopping and they took my phone number down to let me know when my car was finished. I mentioned that I forgot to take with me the $10 coupon that I printed from their website. The young man said not to worry that he would take care of it and make sure that I get the discount. I was called as promised, and it was about an hour and my smog was done. However, I was charged full price. I didn't mention or remind the gentleman about applying the discount, because I forgot about it until after I gave my credit card. WARNING - Do not go to this Star Station Smog Check in Poway. I went multiple times before and never had any issue. This last time in April 2025, the tech charged my wife twice for a smog check. I tried to dispute the 2nd charge but it was denied, probably because the duplicate charge was for a slightly different amount. These guys are scammers. I've gotten my smog check here for a few years, and they're always quick to answer any calls. If you come in the mornings, the line is pretty short and has a manageable wait time. Recently, G was friendly and helpful with the process. They can also give you a call when your car is done if you want to drop off. Check in on Yelp for a discount! Since it's in the lot of a gas station, the inside is small. There's only a few chairs spread around inside and out of the area to sit, but there's a bunch of plazas to walk around nearby. read more

I printed the coupon off their website for $39.75. Yes, the coupon states, "..excludes RVs, Trucks, Vans, and SUVs..". So I expected to pay an additional charge for my truck. But what I did not expect was to be told that it would be double the price advertised in their coupon ($79.95 plus the $8.25 certificate fee). I was surprised and asked, "Wow, so it's double the price?" The employee was a young kid who smugly answered, "You don't have to take it here." So I thanked him, left, and found Apex Smog in Escondido at 1602 E Valley Parkway. Apex Smog is a Star Test Only Station that charges $29.75 for 2000 and newer cars (just $10 more for Trucks, SUV, and Vans) plus the certificate for $8.25. Surprisingly, it was not busy, there was just one car in front of me but it took less than 10 minutes for everything, from start to finish. Bait and Switch, in my opinion. Took in a coupon for $37.75. The technician said that my Hyundai Tucson would be $47.75 because it is an SUV. I pointed out that it is a low emissions CUV, not a high emissions SUV. He didn't budge, instead pointing to the fine print that said the coupon was for "cars". What? So why didn't the coupon reflect that CUVs and SUVs would cost more? I decided to proceed anyway and afterwards called another shop in Poway (Poway Smog Station) that had a coupon. They said the coupon for $41.75 is good for ANY vehicle except for RVs and Luxury cars. Well, that makes a lot more sense. I'm really surprised the Star Station is receiving so many positive reviews. I am disappointed with what I consider to be a Bait and Switch tactic. Next time I will take my vehicle to a shop that honors their coupon. read more
