We didn't have an appointment it was a very last minute spur of the moment thing. We walked in and he took us right away. Just one car ahead of us. Even with that we were in and out. Bait and Switch, in my opinion. Took in a coupon for $37.75. The technician said that my Hyundai Tucson would be $47.75 because it is an SUV. I pointed out that it is a low emissions CUV, not a high emissions SUV. He didn't budge, instead pointing to the fine print that said the coupon was for "cars". What? So why didn't the coupon reflect that CUVs and SUVs would cost more? I decided to proceed anyway and afterwards called another shop in Poway (Poway Smog Station) that had a coupon. They said the coupon for $41.75 is good for ANY vehicle except for RVs and Luxury cars. Well, that makes a lot more sense. I'm really surprised the Star Station is receiving so many positive reviews. I am disappointed with what I consider to be a Bait and Switch tactic. Next time I will take my vehicle to a shop that honors their coupon. read more

Sprouts is right next door. -They have parking available, but limited if you go at peak hours. I suggest going on a weekday morning. I went Wednesday morning and there was hardly any wait and plenty of parking. Customer service: Roger has the best customer service skills I've seen ! He was so pleasant from beginning until the end. I was in and out in 15 minutes! Amazing and stress-free experience ! They have a small waiting room inside and there was only one person ahead of me. I also made an appointment in case it was busy, but I lucked out! I got to kill some time at Sprouts next door, but I already got a call my car was ready! I was just checking out some groceries. Wow!! Roger didn't lie when he said he'd get me out of there in 15 minutes. They are STAR certified so they also sent the confirmation and that I passed my smog test to the DMV. I also got a copy of my certificate. They have a coupon online and he honored it which saved me $15. Sweet ! Roger cracked me up, because I got the coupon printed 8 1/2 by 11. I brought my car to star station smog in perfect working order. I left it for approximately 40 minutes, when I came back it was parked in a spot. I went in and found out it passed without any problems. I paid, went to get into it and it doesn't even turn over then I noticed two lights are now on, one engine light, and one EPC light that was never on before. of course they take no responsibility.. not even willing to give me the owners name and phone number telling me he doesn't like people calling him. What?? my car was running smoothly and I brought it to you and now I can't even start it up!! I'm waiting for the owner to call me and take my car into somebody to get it fixed. Best smog station in North County! If you don't live far from here, this Star Station should be you choice to have smog check done. Every time I come here they are always very efficient and courteous. The process takes about 10 minutes. This is a very convenient location and is by the Sprouts. This morning, I was able to picked up some fresh fruits, and when I returned the smog check was completed. After they are done they let you know and remind you the certification would be submit online by them. It usually takes 24-hour for DMV to received the certificate but if 30 days later after you paid for your registration renewal, follow up with DMV or AAA Auto Club (they provide some DMV services). Remember to bring the hard copy of the certification you receive from the smog station with you to the DMV or AAA office. read more

I went for a smog for my Honda crv and had a coupon. They said it was $10 more for a SUV and I asked why. I didn't get an answer other than it's $10 more from this young kid. It made it more expensive then other even with the coupon. The Honda CRV isn't bigger than a car and it said nothing about it being extra on the coupon. It's kind of a bate and switch move. Found Star Station on Yelp, walked in on a late Sunday morning, and was out of there within 5 minutes. Shout out to Tuan (sp?) for promptly answering the phone and taking care of all the paperwork in a quick and efficient manner. I'd suggest calling them ahead of time to see how busy they are so you know what to expect. It's nice finding a place that's open on Sundays, and also one that is very reasonably priced (smog check and certificate came out to $46 with Yelp check in). I would give this business a zero star rating if it existed here. My friend visited this place today looking for the technician who's name appears on a smog PASS document that was issued to the seller he purchased his used car from. He has had his car a year and was about to gift the car to his sister which then requires the car be smogged again in order to do the title transfer. Upon taking the vehicle for a current smog he was told by the new place he used for the testing that the car should have never been given a PASSED smog a year ago because the car has the wrong catalytic converter. In talking to this tech today he at first started started talking in 3rd person about the tech that issued the PASS a year ago. I had to interrupt him and stop him more than one time and ask him why he keeps talking like it was another tech and not him. Again and again I had to tell him , YOU'RE responsible...you're the guy that passed it. He then came up with other excuses 1/ give me a break man I handle over 40 cars a day 2/ it's been a year. How do I know you didn't switch out the CC and are now here blaming me ? You can imagine my anger listening to this poor excuse of a tech. I let him know that I would be taking this complaint to the state agency etc. Am looking also at dragging this establishment to small claims court. This is potentially costing my friend $3k. You buy a used car. You're handed a PASSED smog check valid within 90 days of the sale. You NEVER imagine facing this a year later. This tech could only shrug his shoulders. Could care less. Pro tip: there's a Yelp check-in offer here for a discounted smog check, but it turns out it does not apply to older vehicles (pre 95). This is because older vehicles have to use a different machine (dyno?) apparently, and I want to say they said it's more difficult. Service was very good here, and quick. They squeezed me in at the end of the day with no appointment. I think I was in and out in less than 20 minutes, start to finish. When it's done, they communicate the info directly to the DMV so you can just wait for your registration to get mailed to you with no additional steps needed (assuming you've paid your fees). Convenient. The price was reasonable. Everyone I interacted with was very friendly and helpful. The waiting area was decently clean, and there's ample seating. I came here to smog my car today and I can say the service is still just as awesome. It was fast, friendly, and not bad from a price standpoint as well. I was worried I was not going to be able to get it done today since they closed at 5 and I had to leave work early but they were able to fit me in thankfully.
