Don't bother to make an appointment; they don't honor it. No greeting; no smile; barely made eye contact. The only reason I'm not still sitting there (after an hour) is they called they guy who came in 15 minutes AFTER me and I questioned the status of my car. I've been bringing my cars to Joe for years. Aside from his expertise, the main thing that stands out with Joe is his honesty. You really need a mechanic to be honest because as a customer you're usually at the mechanic's mercy. I also appreciate that when Joe doesn't feel he's the best shop for a particular car, he'll tell you. I see people leaving bad reviews about this and it's ridiculous. He's honest, so he may turn away some cars for that reason. I'll be using Secor for years to come. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. (I have Mercedes) I got my breaks replaced and my tires rebalanced. 2 months in a BOLT COMES OUT MID DRIVE. The tow truck guy couldnt believe I lived through my breaks giving out on me mid drive if this happened to me just minutes earlier, I would have gone off the cliff driving in La Jolla. Now he told me this was a common occurrence with my car.... EXCUSE ME?!? Then asked "so you're saying Mercedes are unfit to drive on the road because breaks aren't supposed to give out. And if they do that's a billion dollar lawsuit for everyone who owns the car." he says "No it's safe it just happens" alright... anyways the real problem is I just don't think he can replace breaks well or does it on purpose so we can come back. Being a girl getting taken advantage of in auto shop was something I wasn't going to let happen. My car suffered damage during the tow that is going to be more expensive than he "reimbursed"(he gave half the money for the tow and half for the inspector we took the car to when my car broke down). He had the audacity to suggest my driving was the reason for the situation never even been in a crash before btw. He also said that this happened to another Mercedes he brought in....like okay why are you telling me you tried to kill someone else. Have the full conversation on my phone and will definitely be looking into this. Anyways on top of that he was condescending the whole time and will never take my vehicle within 1 mile of that shop again in my life. read more

Josef is very knowledgeable about various car types, has excellent suggestions regarding improving on weaknesses of various models (from brake linings to rotors to A/C units etc) and did well with our MB's and Volvo's, adding alot of life to the cars as they aged. He was well aware of some of the issues with AMGs and was able to address them proactively, and as well, able to document and explain both at the lay as well as a more sophisticated level his rationale. No hesitation at all to bring various makes to his shop, particularly our Mercedes. read more

I have been bringing my cars to secors auto for many years. I have been satisfied with their service and have also brought in my girlfriend's car and her daughter's car for service. But lately I have found things have changed drastically. Joe, the owner of Secours has refused to work on both of my cars. Mainly due to one of his mechanics preferences. I understand that good mechanics are hard to hire and difficult to retain. But refusing to work on a long time customers vehicles just because of your mechanics preference is not right. One of my vehicles is a 2005 Xterra. It needed a new water pump. But Joe refused to work on it. Instead of sending me to the expensive dealer. My other car is a Toyota supra. It had a broken radiator. Joe said he could not find one. So I bought a new radiator for $1100. After which Joe told me, he would not touch my car. Both of these cars are in excellent condition and kept with low mileage. Joe forced me to get a tow truck and tow my car home unfixed. This is a horrible way to treat, longtime loyal customers. I understand. He has plenty of customers now and most are probably satisfied. But the day will come with electrification where most people won't be driving internal combustion cars. And his choices of customers won't be so easy. I honestly hope electrification put Secours Auto out of business . Joe certainly won't get any more business from me. And Joe I hope you're reading this right now because you have made a very unhappy and ANGRY customer. read more

Secor's automotive has been servicing all my vehicles for years, but recently I took my BMW X6 to them for service. The dealership quoted me over $5K for repairs but Secors fixed it for a fraction of that, tuned it up, lubed the differentials and made my BMW X6 run like it was new. It runs SO much better now and smoother and we are so grateful. I also had them tune my Infiniti QX80 and they can continue to service all my other vehicles. Joe is an effective no BS type of guy. As a practical field engineer, I can tell he has lot of both formal technical training and self education. He is a sincere ally and friend at keeping your car or truck reliably running on a budget. Curiously somehow I was missing my oil cap at my smog check, he whipped out a box with 30 used ones, found the right one, and put one on at no charge- saved me a trip to the store and hassle, while complying with the law. While I don't like to pry about peoples personal details, my impression is he escaped communism as a young person and to him every day is a good day in the USA. read more

Joe really seems like an honest mechanic. Really great experience getting my AC and brakes fixed. I had the front brake pads on my car replaced about a year ago and now the back brakes were starting to grind. I took my car in to Secor's, but only told Joe that my brakes were grinding (not that I already had the front ones replaced). Joe could have tried to hose me (like many mechanics would), but he didn't. He called me after evaluating the car and said the back pads needed to be replaced and the front ones were good. When I went back to pick up the car, I had a chance to briefly speak with Joe. My opinion: he's a hard working, no non-sense person and I would trust him again with any future car issues. read more

Joe told me my Kia Optima needed brakes and the pads only had 4 mL left on them. He told me I had to replace the entire brake system not just the pads and or rotors. I called Kia and took my car there. They told me I had 10 mL left on my brakes and did not need new pads or new brakes. Their cost for new brakes was $300, or 500 if replacing the rotors as well. Joe told me $400. That did not include replacing Joe called to apologize and explain. His mechanic also called. It could be we simply had a misunderstanding and that Kia used words I was familiar with to explain. My rotars were warped, they said, but that I did not need brakes. Also, $500 to replace brakes AND rotars if I chose to. read more

My car needed it's first smog check this year and I needed to get it done quickly, so I found Secor's because it was close to my work and had good reviews. I walked in during lunch time without an appointment and was in and out in less than 30 minutes. There's a small waiting area while your car is being serviced, and enjoyed good conversation with Joe (owner) while waiting. On a separate note, they specialize in German cars. I have an Audi and only take it to the dealer because you can't take these cars to just anyone. I spoke to Joe about some pros and cons of my current car versus getting a MB. Registration renewal and my Honda Fit's check engine light both showed up at the same time. I've used Honda dealer service for years, but after their $150 diagnostic called for a $3000 catalytic replacement, necessary to pass smog, I felt it was time to find an independent shop. Great reviews of Secor's, a local shop, were all over Yelp, Google, and NextDoor. After researching parts and labor on my own (I used to do my own work, and have rebuilt several engines - though I won't go near transmissions) I estimated a good shop would shave $1000-$1500 off Honda's $3000 quote. Joe, the owner, turned out to run an excellent shop and communicate well, though he didn't save me the amount I thought he might; instead he saved me the entire $3000! He gave free advice on simple things to do first, and even volunteered to reset the warning light at no charge even though I was not yet a customer. I followed his recommendations, returned a week later, and though his shop is very busy he still remembered everything we'd talked about. He determined I then had a good chance to pass smog, did the test, and for less than $50 I was rolling again. This is an honest and knowledgeable shop, and I recommend it highly. read more

Went here to get my car smoged, as they were wrapping up he printed my receipt and charged me for the test and certificate. When I was about to leave they informed me my car failed due to an engine code error and to return in a few days after driving. They refunded me the $8 certificate charge. Came back a couple days later and my car passed but I had to pay an additional $20 for the retest. Most places run the codes prior to testing to ensure your car will pass. Will not be returning next time I need a test. read more

Horrible customer service. I called to ask service questions on my car and to make an appointment. After I asked my question, the guy who answered the phone told me to make an appointment online then hung up. He never answered my question. So, I made an appointment online and showed up at my appointment time. The older guy tells me he can't find my name. After standing there and watching him stare at the computer, all of a sudden he finds my appointment. He asks me what I need then reads what I had written on my online appointment request. He proceeds to talk condescending to me saying it takes 4 hours for a tune up and that the car needs to cool down for at least 2 hours before he can even touch my car. He then tell me he needs to order parts, without even looking under the hood of my car. I told him that I asked questions when I called but the guy never answered my questions and just told me to make an appointment online. Had he answered my questions, I would have made the appointment in the morning. He repeats himself again about the 4 hours and 2 hours and ordering parts then tells me to "go to the Japanese place". I do not recommend this place to anyone. Stay away from this place. read more
