A good experience overall…read more The placement of this theater is odd, but welcome: it's seemingly out in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by residences and cornfields and mom-and-pop mechanics shops. That said, it's a good theater. I enjoyed my experience. It's not going to be the best theater you've ever seen in terms of the movie quality; I don't think, for example, they have a 3D theater. But it's really good, especially for the price. The screens are good quality; the lighting and atmosphere of the place is pretty fly; the seats are really comfortable. I sat in one of their two big theaters; it had reclines, a small table area for food, cupholders, and the sound quality was superb. The signage inside is good. One note: screens 1 and 2 are right beside the bathroom. Screens 3-8 are on the other side of the building, so if you have a show in one of those theaters, it'll be a walk if you need to use the restroom. Their popcorn was good; they have butter dispensers by the Coke fountains. The Coke fountains are fountains, so refills are free. Not sure about popcorn. They do have available booze, both beer on draft and some other options (see photos). Staff were helpful, theater was clean, experience was good. It didn't strike me as the best theater experience I've ever had, but I'd go again. Very pleasant experience, especially given the location.

The theater seats run down the slope of the room to a level open "dance floor" in front of the stage. Two L-shaped pleather couches separate the seats from the floor. The sound system is quite good for the space and overall the sound for concerts is just fine ... nothing to rave or compain about. As mentioned, the small concession stand provides beer, wine, and snacks as well as locally roasted, fresh-brewed coffee. Whoever is booking the music here appears to have a good ear for talent. So if you live in the area, don't hesitate to drop the meager $5-10 cover to check out the well-curated lineup of regional and national touring acts. Sheptown is lucky to have this place. And it gives me one more reason to keep coming back to this lovely and friendly town along the Potomac River.

My interest was greatly piqued in seeing a show here because it's a thrust stage experience, which is rare in our area. As a community theatre director myself I wanted to see their space and how they staged the show. I want to begin doing something similar. This organization has been around nearly a century and they have a beautifully renovated space in an old train depot. They also clearly have an army of volunteers who make these shows happen. We had front row seats, putting us face-to-face with the actors, which I loved. The performance was well staged and well acted. It was a great night of both entertainment and research.
