The baristas were friendly and welcoming. The line was moving slowly - a combination of people asking questions and an ordering process that seems a little inefficient (we noticed they were tracking available pastries on Post-It notes). Our drinks were available quickly, and they were delightful. I had the spiced orange chai with oatmilk and my husband had a gingerbread latte. My chai was sweeter than I would prefer, but now I know that for next time. Everything in the pastry case looked incredible. We passed this time because we had finished breakfast. I'd be interested in coming back in the evening to try some of the cocktails. I think they have some kinks to work out when they're busy; overall, it was a good experience. Walking into the parlor of the Monastic Home is like walking into one of those cozy "oldies playing another room but it's raining outside" YouTube videos, except that it's real. Between Hannah's excellent decorating skills (tip: everything you see is for sale!) and the mix of 1930s and 1940s music humming in the background, it's impossible not to settle into a chair and make yourself at home. The hostess of the home, Hannah, is just as equally warm & welcoming. Hannah offers a unique and delicious array of pastries and sandwiches. My cousin and I just about took one of everything; our favorites were the olive oil loaf (trust me, it's good!), raspberry jam bar, and Scottish shortbread. We also ordered lattes with a syrup recommended by Hannah. This is most definitely a spot to come when you want to curl up with a good book and are craving the comfort of home - it's embedded in the Monastic Home's decor & baking and hospitality of Hannah and her family.
