This Starbucks saved me a few times while I stayed in Isla Vista. When I'm on a caffeine binge, Starbucks is normally my addiction of choice. Now, add to it the fact I hate trying to park in this area and I loathe having to maneuver around people in the streets. When you mix that with my caffeine addiction, you can imagine me waking up and cringing until I stumble into Starbucks to get my fix. In any regards, this is an alright Starbucks. It has a very Isla Vista charm to it that is somehow magically blended with a Starbucks atmosphere. The cafe is usually clean and the staff is very friendly. I can't believe the person who manages this store still has a job, for that matter I can't believe the district manager still has a job, this is by far the worst managed cafe I've ever been to. This afternoon I stop in for a brewed cup of coffee and what's this? Starbucks doesn't have any coffee? What the hell is wrong with the world when Starbucks doesn't have any coffee? I wish they would fire all of the upper management at this store and hire someone with actual experience in running a cafe successfully. At least make sure coffee available for purchase. I came in early this morning and order a vanilla latte, after waiting 15 minutes and watching other customers come after me and getting their drinks, I asked about my drink , the cashier ask the Hispanic girl if she made the latte and she said no, she finally made it herself, I had to wait over 20 minutes when the store was empty to get my drink read more

First off: it's a Starbucks. So you know what the coffee already tastes like and what the menu is. The drinks are okay at this Starbucks, sometimes they use too little flavored though, especially green tea and specialty/holiday flavors which is saddening. Most of the baristas are students so don't expect them to make the best coffee you've ever had. The lines can be atrociously long especially around finals and specialty deals (think frappachinos for 2 dollars). They will run out of flavors during those times as well. Good amount of seating inside and outside for all those papers to be written. Overall, it's a basic Starbucks. It has it's perks and it has it's downfalls, but it's the only one in IV and the closest other Starbucks is on Calle Real. So do you really want to drive that far? read more

This morning, I walked in to pick up my drink, a caramel macchiato. The barista rudely corrected my friend, who ordered a caramel coffee. He told her that she needed to order the caramel sauce, which she actually did (said so on the receipt), and refused to correct her order. My caramel macchiato tasted disgusting, the barista apparently doesn't know that caramel macchiatos are made with vanilla bean and caramel. As a barista, it is your job to know the drinks, not the customers. read more

This particular Starbucks received from myself a collection of succulent plants and agreed to have them planted for the Isla Vista slain students of the recent past. The shop is small and crowded, true , but the coffee is up to standard. Fresher tasting than other Starbuck's I have visited. read more

This Starbucks is at the perfect distance away from school and home. Great place to go during the non-rush hours. I've had my fair share of not so great experiences here with customer service being a little inaccurate with orders and rude when I bring it up--but I get it--it gets busy and nobody ever wants to do it again and have the job lose some money. Overall, I'd say to order ahead through the mobile app if you don't want to wait in line. If you're there to study, don't hog the outlets during your entire visit. Can't complain. It's Starbucks. I WILL SAY THIS THOUGH: because they're almost always going through rushes not all people will prepare the green matcha lattes/frappes correctly and it'll look gross because you end up having to shake it up yourself. Customer service is great! Usually when I get my drink and ask for light ice, I still get a bunch of ice even when i say very very light ice please. But on my drink, the worker wrote light ice and then light light ice underneath it and I really appreciate it. After the person making my drink asked if the ice amount was alright. Definitely not a good example of Starbucks =/ Even though there was no line to order my drink, it took forever for it to be prepared (a tall Americano!! simple drink!)...approx 10 minutes. I was quite turned off by the staff chatting amongst themselves when I was standing around waiting for my drink -- they did not seem very focused on their tasks at hand. Seating is extremely limited and overall not very clean. Pretty disappointed in this Starbucks location...perhaps it's due to being in IV?? While staying at UCSB for a conference, we would walk in to Isla Vista every morning for coffee. I like Starbucks for the coffee and for the consistancy of product and service. Our first morning, I ordered a grande coffee in a vente cup with an add shot. The young lady took our order and sent the cups to the barrista (who didn't show up for several minutes). Once our young gent (who will be forthwith referred to as Flock of Seagulls FoS) returned, he got my friend's latte to her. Then he began working on mine, finished it up and topped it off with a different type of coffee. When he brought it back to me, I stated that that wasn't what I ordered. He stood there with the coffee in his hand as if I would change my mind and he wouldn't have to redo it. After about 10 seconds of this stand-off, I kindly informed him that he would have to remake my drink. All the while he was apologizing and creating excuses. Dude, just shut it and make me my coffee!!! I'm not sure what their system is there... verbal orders or written, but if it is verbal, then the barista needs to be in the same room when the order is made. BTW, the lady behind me was not happy with her beverage either. We left the premises to the whoosh of another drink being poured down the drain. Day 2: We come into Starbucks and FoS has his foot up on the counter. Now, I'm not a germ-phobe, but I've worked in enough restaurants to know what is on the floor, and I don't want that on the counter.. We got the correct drink today, but only because the female worked both the cash register and drinks. FoS was busy stocking sandwiches. Day 3: Drinks were ordered by about 6 customers, and we were smack in the middle of the group. The two before us got their drinks, and the two behind us got their drinks, and then we got our drinks. There was quite a substantial wait between the first two orders and the last four because FoS felt a very urgent need to use the restroom even though customers were waiting. I go to this Starbucks regularly, and I'm giving it 3 stars because it closes extremely early, and there's never any where to sit. You would think being so close to campus they would have longer hours. They always run out of things so if you go late in the day you might not even get what you want to order.
