For all my years of chain-swigging coffee, I have to concede that the Margate Starbucks was the gateway drug that turned me into a full-blown caffeine addict. I used to ride my bike to this place after middle school with my girlfriends to pick up chocolate-chip frappachinos... It was the start of something beautiful. For many years Margate's Starbucks was a source of excitement and slow-growing brand loyalty. Only later in life, when I had sprung out of my small town, did I realize that as far as Starbucks are concerned, this one is only mediocre. It's a franchise. lt doesn't have all the frills of a typical Starbucks... no sandwiches, no hot food, sparse pickins as far as solids are concerned... The drinks are all good though, and the staff is friendly, not slow and inefficient like the employees at The Walk Starbucks. The real problem is the shoobies (as can be said for much of the island in the summer) ... but forget trying to get coffee from June-August any time between 7 and 10am. read more

There is something so nice about being greeted with a smile when you haven't yet had your daily dose of caffeine. I'm always so impressed by Starbucks commitment to customer service, and this Starbucks location is no different. One thing this location could improve upon is correcting their listed phone number on google. I called to inquire about store hours and a very angry man answered and exclaimed, "This is _____ NOT the Margate Starbucks. What do you want?". When I told the young man at the register about this, he kind of blew me off and said they're aware of the problem. That was about 5 weeks ago. I called again last night, assuming they would have corrected the number, but the same angry man answered the phone. Obviously they know about the problem but have not addressed it, hopefully this review will give them the motivation they need to change it. It is really no fun to be screamed at over the phone, and as you can imagine, I didn't bother investigating further as to the store hours, so they lost my business twice. read more

I always order a venti pink drink they messed up once but when I called they were supper nice and made a brand new one and the service is great and they make everything very quick the only thing is that starbucks if already really expensive and they make a venti 6 dollars instead of 5 so whatever and the mobile ordering does suck that they don't have it but it's because they are a franchise and I know the starbucks CEO of international starbucks stores and there is a reason why they don't have mobile ordering its not their fault so don't hate. I don't like this location at all. It is one of the last remaining free-standing franchised Starbucks in our area. Unfortunately this means the drinks menu is rarely updated (still uses the old style from like 7 years ago), and they really do not know how to make the drinks properly. What really is weird is that the location tries to impress the tourists by taking the attitude that they are the "ultra-fancy" coffee shop. I mean really..., you charge five dollars a coffee but you have poor investment in your property and your drinks suck compared to other Starbucks. I frequent this Starbucks, and although it isn't part of the corporate chain (it is a franchise), until today, I have had pretty good experiences here. The equipment can sometimes be quite noisy, and on this occasion, coupled with noisy children, an employee was more than disrespectful toward me in my inability to hear her. In fact, several words come to mind for the kind of condescending she was, but I will refrain from using them. I spoke to the manager about her obvious attitude problem, but I don't think she cared. This is a licensed store not a franchise. Its not owned by Starbucks.. No matter. I would describe this as a basic Starbucks location. The gals are friendly but the place has more than a few "regulars" which make the atmosphere boring. There are too many kids who don't pay and hangout and make a lot of noise here at times. No free refills like the regular locations, no redemption of offers. Coffee can be burnt at times. If you don't like it, get a pour down fresh cup and the gals who work there will do it. Well, I've been going to Starbucks for 22-23 years. I'm a software developer, so I drink lots of coffee. I didn't even start using the refill policy until a couple of years ago and have spent TONS of money on Starbucks over the years. Tons. The owner of this place has the nerve to only give you a 10% discount on refills and the cashier (not his fault) said it's because this Starbucks is privately owned, which is BS. I find that incredibly cheap and greedy. The rent can't be that high. Not only are the prices more expensive than any neighborhood in New York City including the Upper East and West side, the owner is cheap. I guess he feels the well-off clients who live in that neighborhood should be ripped off on their coffee, or the tourists that come to the shore don't deserve to have the same policy as other Starbucks. All I can do is not go there again and write a review on yelp. This is the only review I think I've ever done. There are Starbucks in other areas close by. I'll visit them instead. I don't care what anyone says, that's cheap and greedy. read more

Don't ever go here. I wanted a tall decaf ice coffee with a grande soy milk on the side that I could add. Starbucks cold coffee is too strong for me. The coffee was warm not cold. It also tasted very burnt. Of course, if I had my soy milk it wouldn't have mattered so much.They refused to give me the grande cup of soy milk. I could only drink a 1/4 cup of the coffee today. The help were rude. I've ordered the same thing in many Starbucks and never had anyone refuse before. They have milk on the condiment bar, but no soy milk. This store will not honor any of Starbucks rewards. They also charge over $1:00 more than any Starbucks store because they are a franchise. Save your money and go to other friendlier coffee shops. read more

Some of the barista here have an attitude issue. They need to learn how to handle a fast paced environment. They need to learn how to properly execute the orders in a timely manner. The staff were re-using pitchers without proper cleansing procedures, placing non-dairy milk in the non-appropriate container, causing contamination. This place is just a mess. Starbucks coffee is highly overrated.. I have been on a tour of a coffee bean processing facility in El Salvador that is a supplier for Starbucks and talked with people involved in coffee growing and learned first hand that Starbucks accepts coffee beans with a lot more defects than other big buyers like the Italian Illy Cafe or the Japanese coffee companies.. I have traveled a lot in other coffee growing nations - Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, Nicaragua, the Oaxaca region of Mexico - and experienced first hand countless coffees far, far better than what Starbucks sells at such a high price.. and the baked goods at any Starbucks are mediocre, I assume they all come from some centralized facility.. In any case, despite this the young lady working the counter at this Starbucks was very friendly and welcoming and I was happy to come in on a cold day for an espresso machiatto. This location is quite small (limited seating capacity) and they close at 7 PM everyday, which seems awfully early, even given that this in somewhat sleepy Margate.. Free wi-fi. read more

Ever since I was a child my family would frequently visit the Margate/Ventnor area during the summer and holidays. I am extremely disappointed with the quality of service provided in the store. The food in the display literally appeared to have mold forming on several pastries and sandwiches (they were extremely old). I ordered a Bacon Gouda breakfast sandwich which was covered in the burnt crumbs of old food in the oven. The employees seemed genuine and friendly, but this does not even out with the unappetizing condition of the food and drinks. The drinks were made improperly (both visually and taste wise), the traditional coffee was severely burnt. I had also witnessed who I assumed to be the manager talking down to a newly trained employee in a very derogatory way, the employee's do seem to have a slight aura of unmotivated which I believe is created by the inconsistency of management and the "privately owned license franchise". This is by far the worst Starbucks within the area, I recommend driving to Atlantic City or Somers Point to get a true Starbucks experience where the management is polite and consistent and respects their employees. read more
