We just had dinner and was heading back to Idaho. I didn't want to get my drink at the Starbucks by the highway, so I decided to drive further away. Located down the street from a Krispy Kreme is this very new looking Starbucks. Apparently, you can't post a picture of the coffee cart located across the parking lot from this place. The Yelpers who are loyal to the mermaid will report your photo and have the management take it down. There were 2 baristas working here, and I was debating what I wanted to drink. I remembered Starbucks sending me an email, offering me more reward points if I buy a certain drink or item. I told the barista I was going to check my email and she said if I swipe my card, she could tell me my offers. Maybe she knew something I didn't but I assured her that the emails we get for these "special" offers aren't swipeable. A general offer like 4 points Monday, yes.. but not the customized emails. She scoffed at me, like I was some idiot. I ended up getting my usual, a London Fog. Its a nice location, but no warm fuzzy feelings from the staff here.

I originally gave 5 stars. IDK why?! It took an hour for 2 drinks! And I guess it had decent looks but I'm not letting that district me!

I'm a Starbucks fan in general but not this location. I didn't get a full drink - even the foam didn't reach the top of the cup.

It's a huge hangar type space filled with locals bustling in for their morning coffee. My typical way to know if I'll like a coffee shop is if their cappuccino is only offered in one (or two) sizes. Black Coffee had that-BINGO. Delicious and perfectly made. My only regret is not buying beans to brew at home.

(525) is worth a stop for the building alone--that curved corrugated-metal shell, the tangle of Edison bulbs strung across the high ceiling, and a sunny little patio out back make it one of the more distinctive coffee spots around. The service was friendly and quick. I ordered at the counter and had my drink in hand in no time, with genuinely nice folks behind the bar. The menu has some fun, unexpected touches too--the mint cold brew is a standout you won't find everywhere, and it's refreshing without being gimmicky. The pastry case is where they really shine. House-made bialys, savory danishes with coconut greens and pork belly, sweet danishes with black tea and roasted rhubarb, plus a rotating lineup of cookies and tea cakes. Everything looks like it's made with real care, and the bakery side (Grist) clearly takes the craft seriously. One heads-up: there's no WiFi. If you're hoping to post up and grind through a few hours of work, this isn't the spot for it--plan on a shorter visit or bring a hotspot. For a quick, high-quality coffee-and-pastry run, though, it's a winner. Come for the architecture and the mint cold brew, stay for the bialys--just don't expect to get much emailing done.

The pastry case is impressive with a huge selection of pastries, bagels, and goodies, including massive pies that are hard to resist. Coffee and tea options cover all the standard classics, plus some fun twists that keep the menu interesting. The coffee is good for the area but nothing outstanding. The space itself is large with plenty of seating options, and it never feels overly crowded, which is a big plus if you want to sit and relax for a while. Unfortunately, the service has gone downhill. The baristas used to be incredibly friendly, remembered drink orders, and made you feel genuinely welcome. Lately, it feels rushed and impersonal, like you're just being pushed through the line with little acknowledgment. The experience has been very hit or miss, which makes it hard to want to return regularly. Overall, amazing pastries and pies, solid drinks, and a great space, but the inconsistency in service is what keeps this from being a frequent stop for me anymore.

I also really appreciated that they offer several vegan options. I ordered the Creamy Blue Smoothie and the Banana Walnut Oatmeal. The oatmeal was absolutely AMAZING--perfectly cooked, flavorful, and easily one of the best breakfasts I've had here. It's the item I'd recommend to everyone. The smoothie was good overall, but the fresh mint was a bit overpowering and left an aftertaste for me. I think it would be even better without the mint or with less of it. I also appreciated that they use compostable straws, although mine was cracked when I unwrapped it. Later, I came back for lunch and ordered the half Brussels Caesar Salad with the vegan protein. The vegan protein (chickpeas and lentils) was delicious, and the half portion was surprisingly large. I also liked that the dressing came already tossed throughout the salad. One thing I found a little confusing was that the Brussels Caesar uses a vegan dressing but is topped with cheese, so I'd be curious what substitution is offered for guests ordering it vegan. The bread was good, although the butter was served very cold and was difficult to spread. A few suggestions that could make the experience even better: * Add a larger "Basal" sign above the entrance to make the restaurant easier to spot. * Install a large wall-mounted menu inside for easier viewing. * Keep tables and chairs wiped down throughout the lunch rush. The restaurant was spotless during breakfast, but by lunchtime several tables and seats needed cleaning. Given the price point, I'd expect a bit more attention to dining room upkeep. Overall: good atmosphere, friendly staff, and good food. I recommend the Banana Walnut Oatmeal.
