I have never written a bad review at any dance school/academy until now. Please beware. This was our first year trying this place.   Extremely unprofessional management. Teachers are teenagers with attitude and a superiority complex. Poor communication, terrible end of year pictures (couldnt even post or print them!) that they charged an outrageous amount for, "teacher" discussing who are their class favorites & not favs while parents are within ear shot, dance technique & skill set not up to par with industry standard.   I paid for extra private lessons for my daughter. One day the class was cut short from 30 mins to approx 10 mins and I documented this and addressed it professionally. I asked for a refund for that lesson day & was met with complete attitude weeks following. I was ignored by Jess until I pushed the issue. Though she did apologize for her staff's behavior she followed it up with being upset about the fact that the lessons weren't paid (via auto-dudect). I expressed how aut-dedeuct isnt my problem & credit card has been on file all year. She eventually agreed that would be an issue on their end but called it a miscommunication?   Recital was a complete embarrassment. Venue was horrific, the show was more about the "teachers" (I use that term loosely) then it was about the kiddos. No structure backstage except for the teenager teachers yelling at grown adults. My family traveled from out of state as they always do & they were shocked at the performance quality & venue utilized.   Though this isn't everything that happened all season long, these are the highlights. This is not just my opinion, several moms have contacted me appalled about the same issues & will not be going back.    Yesterday Jess texted me and some other moms about if we would be re-enrolling our kids. I very clearly outlined the reasons we would not be registering at this location again & she completely ignored everything. No apology, no addressing the concerns & issues, etc.    They are clearly short on sign ups & enrollments this year but refuse to address the issues as to why. So sad. Thankful there are a lot of other dance schools in the area.

What I loved so much about AAD is their commitment to not only developing her technique and performance as a dancer, but also building great character. My little girl is almost 4 and was in the bunnies class with Ms. Ashley and loved it. They always start the class with a story and incorporate it into their dancing while still learning proper dance steps and terminology. My daughter did the class with ballet, tap and jazz. They end the class with dressing up. Ms. Ashley was great at keeping the girls on task and doing what they were supposed to be doing. I like that they don't focus the entire class on learning recital pieces, but do run through the dances. Recital is optional which we chose not to do this past session. If you are doing the recital you get a pactice DVD to wok on at home. Make-ups are easy to do. The studio is a good size and has open classrooms so you get to watch the class each week. I think this studio is a little larger than the Brambleton location. They do sell ballet clothes and shoes there as well. I have bought leotards and tutus there, but I genereally try to get tap and ballet shoes used as little ones grow SO fast and are usually in great shape. We did make-ups with Ms. Jenna as well as Ms. Tosha and can't complain. My daughter loved both of them as well. Classes are a little pricey but worth every penny in my opinion. Looking forward to summer and fall sessions, the fall recital and maybe even a summer camp!

The open concept is very disruptive when you have one child who is always wanting mom or moms feel the need to try to teach their kids instead of leaving it to the teacher. There are curtains ...use them! The teachers are excellent, we had Mrs Cassie and Mrs Jenna. Although, if a teacher has to take off they cancel the class! You can make the class up but we take Saturday class for a reason.. We can not come a different day. Then the recital; total chaos! No one knows where to go or what to do. Mandatory rehearsal was at 8pm on a school night for a kindergartner AND it was 45 mins away from the studio and over an hour away from our house. Terrible idea!! Then at the recital you are expected to leave your child with very young girls as babysitters...they lost my daughter between dances. Not ok!! Then the performance was WAY too long... They let tiny babies dance( actually it was them just chasing them around the stage) for WAY to long. 2 year old are too young but I'm sure they saw that as another way to make money.

I have been attending Arthur Murray Ashburn for about 4 months now. There are 3 main reasons I…read morethink people come in: 1. They want to be able to dance at a wedding or event ($) 2. They want to be able to dance well anywhere ($$) 3. They want to become an expert dancer and compete against others. ($$$) I am in the second category, and I expect to take about a year's worth of dances. This is not inexpensive. If you just want to come in for a few lessons (#1, above) you can get out without a whole lot of money. I do feel like I am getting my money's worth, though. My private lesson is once per week (or more, if my instructor and I want to), but I can still come in every other night of the week for Group Lessons at no additional charge. Group classes really help and I encourage them (so do they). With that out of the way, let me say that the studio is completely above-board and great to deal with. My biggest concern was that I would "lose" a lesson. As in "I can't make it Tuesday night." "Oh, ok, well, that lesson still counts against you." That has never happened, and I am convinced now it won't. I have faith in management and I don't at all feel like they are trying to play a game with me and my money. Quite the contrary, everyone there is great to work with. By the way, I come in alone and dance with my instructor. They are fine with that. If you come in with your SO, you two can dance and the instructor will help out. No matter what, they will work with you. The instructors are terrific, and I really like all of them. They know what they are doing, they are fun, and I would recommend any and all of them. So this is a long review, but let me sum up by saying that I highly recommend this studio. If you stick around after the intro lessons for the Bronze 1 program, it won't be cheap, but you will really come away with some serious dance skills. Stop procrastinating and learn to Salsa! (or some other, lesser dance) :)
