I have never written a bad review at any dance school/academy until now. Please beware. This was our first year trying this place.   Extremely unprofessional management. Teachers are teenagers with attitude and a superiority complex. Poor communication, terrible end of year pictures (couldnt even post or print them!) that they charged an outrageous amount for, "teacher" discussing who are their class favorites & not favs while parents are within ear shot, dance technique & skill set not up to par with industry standard.   I paid for extra private lessons for my daughter. One day the class was cut short from 30 mins to approx 10 mins and I documented this and addressed it professionally. I asked for a refund for that lesson day & was met with complete attitude weeks following. I was ignored by Jess until I pushed the issue. Though she did apologize for her staff's behavior she followed it up with being upset about the fact that the lessons weren't paid (via auto-dudect). I expressed how aut-dedeuct isnt my problem & credit card has been on file all year. She eventually agreed that would be an issue on their end but called it a miscommunication?   Recital was a complete embarrassment. Venue was horrific, the show was more about the "teachers" (I use that term loosely) then it was about the kiddos. No structure backstage except for the teenager teachers yelling at grown adults. My family traveled from out of state as they always do & they were shocked at the performance quality & venue utilized.   Though this isn't everything that happened all season long, these are the highlights. This is not just my opinion, several moms have contacted me appalled about the same issues & will not be going back.    Yesterday Jess texted me and some other moms about if we would be re-enrolling our kids. I very clearly outlined the reasons we would not be registering at this location again & she completely ignored everything. No apology, no addressing the concerns & issues, etc.    They are clearly short on sign ups & enrollments this year but refuse to address the issues as to why. So sad. Thankful there are a lot of other dance schools in the area.

Avoid this place at all costs! The owner of this studio (Donna Grim) is a cruel, vicious woman. I…read moredon't mean that she is tough on the dancers, I mean she is sadistic to some. My daughter got "the treatment" when she transferred to the studio (she was a top-notch dancer) and refused Donna's suggestion that she join "the company" (the elite competition girls). We had moved studios because my daughter wanted to concentrate on her education, and just wanted high-quality classes without the time obligations. In ONE semester, the owner managed to destroy my daughter's self-esteem and self-confidence, and kill all love of dance in her. In hindsight it is apparent that she was brutally taunting my kid, although my child was scared to tell me until I finally witnessed something myself and started questioning her. (I am NOT a dance mom). When I talked to Donna, she blew me off and told me that even though my daughter was in all the same classes as the "company girls" she was excluded and was an outsider, because she wouldn't commit. The level of vitriol from this woman was spine-chilling, and I pulled my daughter immediately - never even finishing the performance that evening and the next. I found out afterwards that Donna (who taught the classes) would single her out and humiliate her in front of the other girls, calling her stupid and clumsy, and encouraging the other children to mock her. Mind you, my daughter was the top of her classically-trained school before she transferred in. Because of the genre switch, my daughter assumed that SHE was at fault, and worked even harder, but this horrid woman would single her out the next time. It has been almost 8 years since that happened, and my daughter has never danced since. I would avoid this place at all costs. YOUR kid may never get the sadistic treatment, but it trickles down to the other dancers. They never actually shunned my kid, but many other dancers were treated poorly by the other kids. It's just an environment that is dark and unpleasant.

As a former student of Dance Unlimited (10 years in the company and 13 years at the studio), I am…read morethankful everyday for the stellar pre-professional training I received under the careful watch of Donna Grim. Not only did I gain invaluable technique training from Donna and other fabulous teachers (namely Ms. Gayle-- the resident Ballet guru), I also learned how be a compassionate, team-oriented and driven person in the world. Yes, the classes are challenging. Yes, hard life lessons are learned on the dance floor, but I wouldn't trade my years with Donna for anything. I was encouraged to cultivate a passion for dance at Dance Unlimited that has stayed with me my entire life. The community that is created by Donna and the other teachers is one that is irreplaceable. I still keep in touch with many of my former team mates and their parents! My training at DU has paid off-- as I am now a professional in the musical theater industry-- represented by a great NYC agency and working in regional theaters around the country. Dance Unlimited is a save haven for those who love to dance and want to get themselves to the next level both personally and technically!
