Stokes funeral parlor is an absolutely amazing service to provide families with the end of times for the loved one. Everyone that worked there was so kind and considerate and polite to us, and not sort of a what I expected. It was more honest and real, and I felt that they were being extremely respectful. I sadly had to attend my sister's funeral. I was sort of dreading going to a funeral parlor, thinking it would be drab and dreary. As I entered, I noticed there was several small rooms which is very intimate to me instead of a large place with lots of chairs in it waiting for people to come and pay final respects. In each of the small rooms, there is an array of photographs that they had put together and a beautiful arrangement, reminding me of my life with my sister and my family. It really touched my heart very deeply. It was so well thought out. It was so nice to look at my sister's life from her childhood until her last days. Thank you, strikes for being so sensitive and considerate and putting together a beautiful presentation of my sister's life and making her last journey a beautiful exit. It's difficult to put into words how much I appreciate the level of professionalism and guidance that Tuyệt, Crystal and the rest of the Starks Funeral Parlor staff provided my family in our time of need. They lifted so much stress from our shoulders by handling the funerary/celebratory plannings. They were warm and supportive, approachable, easy to communicate with, and met all our family's needs. They worked behind the scenes, allowing us the ability to grieve without extra stressors. After such a sad and unexpected death, we really needed things to be uplifting. Those two amazing women worked as a team, and made our loved one's Celebration of Life a great success! The classy ambiance, artfully displayed photos and memorabilia, the delicious hors d'oeuvres, the staff... Our evening was filled with happiness and remembrance, instead of sadness and getting caught up in our grief. Many of our guests said they loved the evening. Some even said they hope to have a similar experience for their families. Start to finish -- from transporting and embalming our loved one, to the very end at the cemetery -- the Starks team was there for us every step of the way. PS I almost forgot to mention that Starks' services cost thousands of dollars less vs the bland funerary services that we had previously received for my grandparents through Larkin Mortuary. We came from out of town for a wake here and the place is beautiful and classy. It has many settings to sit down and mourn your loved ones in peace. Tranquil sitting areas where you can ponder make you feel like your in a cozy cottage, and the customer service is phenomenal. The food was comforting and served in small bites so you can mingle and catch up with family without having a mouthful. It was so good that if they had a restaurant I'd honestly consider eating there when we visit. read more

I came back to Starks because 10 years ago they took care of my mother's passing. She was flown to San Diego for her burial. Then just this month my father passed and also needed to be flown to San Diego. When I called and told them of his unexpected passing and asked them to hurry and get him because the hospital had no room for him, they jumped. Shayneh was like dealing with a sister and Jared was so helpful too. My emails were answered in record time, and I was told the fees and they were much less than larger facilities. I was treated so well, and they just handled everything. There was a delay of one month in getting Dad to San Diego because of covid and a military burial. Not one time did Shayneh hurry me. She just said don't worry when it is cleared, we will take care of it. The mortuary in San Diego could not accept him until just a couple of days before the funeral but Starks said no problem and didn't charge me some astronomical amount. I recommend this place no matter where you are in Utah. We are LDS and they are so respectful of our way of doing things. I will be back but hopefully not too soon! read more

I just want to write a quick review to comment how terrific Starks Funeral Parlor is. I never thought i would be writing about a funeral home until how i was treated when my mother Tess Paloukos passed away on 10/18/19. It was a very difficult time for mre having to plan evrerything out and how Shayna was so nice in waiting for the life insurance proceeds to come without bothering me about money. They made me fill like family and still after 2 months i call and communicate with them as they are down to earth people. I went to another funeral home before going there and i thought i was talking to a used car dealer how all he was thinking about is making the sell and had no care for me in this time of need. Oh yes, I cannot forget about the great Vernalee. She has to be one of the cutest and funniest people i have ever meant. Even under these hard circumstances i was going through, she made me fill good. She even followed up a few weeks later to see how i was. She is great and will always be considered my close friend. Funerals are ALWAYS a drag. They're depressing, gloomy and everlasting. Starks on the other hand is a BLAST! Great service, a fancy live band, small snacks and drinks brought to you throughout the celebration of your loved ones life. They do pictures of your loved one everywhere, they have a memorial room crafted and designed just for you and the special person who will forever be a piece of your heart. Parking? Don't you worry about that, they do that for you as well! Great, happy and friendly staff that will do anything and everything for you. This is how life should be celebrated, with joy and happiness. Dreadful experience due to different staff assisting in each interaction, poor execution of planned events, and the most upsetting experience of them losing a keepsake that was to be with my father from his passing and to be buried with him as well. Which was only made worse by their consistent disregard and denial of them losing this item (blanket). To start, I attended a wake about 10 years ago and was impressed by the services offered and convinced my father this was the best way to celebrate his life rather than a cremation and no ceremony he wanted. I contacted starks a few days prior to my Dads passing and spoke with a lady with the stark last name and was sold on a care free experience and would be taken care of like family. Upon my fathers passing 2 gentlemen picked up my father. At the time they placed him on the gurney I ran back in the house and grabbed his favorite blanket and a picture of his grandsons. I placed the picture inside his shirt and covered him with the blanket. A few days later I met with Vernalie, a very polite lady, and made arrangements, which was to include a roseary after a private viewing prior to the wake service. I also asked to see my Dad, to which the replied the could the following day. When I seen my Dad the following day his picture was was him but not his blanket. I figured they were washing it or it was bagged up, but I also had other things on my mind. A few days later I went into make payment and was greeted by a gentleman with the starks last name, whom I met for the first time. Upon making the payment, moved by my appreciation during my grief and the salesmanship prior I offered a more than reasonable gratuity which seemed to be humbly appreciated. This obviously was not the case because each experience after would be a collapse of a house of cards. The night of the wake still no blanket, but that was the last thing on my mind at that point. As the designated time for the roseary approached, family members as well as guests were looking for seating for the roseary, to which there was none. The lady staff member that I had only met upon arriving, was difficult to locate to find out where the roseary was to be held. Her response being, we can set up chairs in the main area, but the casket wouldn't be moved in there. Or we could set up chairs in the viewing room and it would be very limited. It was upsetting to say the least that I was having to address this situation in the moment rather than when it was being planned or the information wasn't shared. Either way it was handled very poorly. The rest of the evening to go over with out any other issues. Due to this I offered the wait staff a reasonable gratuity to be shared with the Chef as well as the musicians. The morning of the burial services I was greeted by yet another lady stark associate that I had never met. Upon seeing my father I inquired about the blanket, which she responded she would look into it. She returned awhile later saying that it wasn't there and that it was never there. I informed her that I was confident it was with him being I placed it on him. She reluctantly said she would contact the employees that did the pickup and make some other calls. She returned stating that no one remembers a blanket and persisted it was never there in the first place. Due to this delaying the services more than 30 min, to which 15 min was wasted trying to find her or anyone that worked there. Then at the burial site there were not enough seating for all family members and the other stark employee / driver/ sound guy , gave up on trying to stop the feedback on the microphone because he wouldn't unwind the cord to separate the PA and mic. so he turned it off. At this point I was more than exhausted and just wanted this over. But the worse was to come. The next day I received a call from starks, which gentleman, I don't recall. He had called me to inform me that they didn't have the blanket and was adamant that it was never in their possession. The conversation began to get heated so I hung up. Being upset at the fact of their complete denial I went through my Ring app recordings and was able to pull up a recording due to the gurney being placed in front of the door. Clearly it confirms I covered my Dad with his blanket. Once seeing this, I sent a text message to the caller I spoke with informing him I confirmed everything with my Ring app and was upset at them for making me not only relive that moment in my head multiple times, but now having to watch it because of their lack of care. The response was a lazy apology and a promise to continue to investigate what happened. I informed that doesn't matter due to my dad was to be buried with it. this was his response. " If that precious blanket of your fathers surfaces we would offer to disinter at your approval and observation of course" I have yet to hear from them and don't anticipate I will. read more

As my Mother became too old to live alone we moved her from California to Salt Lake City to be closer to her family. She decided she wanted to pick out the funeral home that would care for her remains. We tour many different funeral homes in the valley. Our last place to stop was at Starks. It was such a warm and inviting place. The garden was so nice. A year and a half later my Mother passed away. Starks took care of all the arrangements just as my Mother had requested. They were so kind to me. Thru the difficult year after she passed they reached out to me several times. Sending me insightful pamphlets on grief, lovely cards at certain times during the year when my grief would be difficult. I appreciated all their thoughtfulness. I will recommend Starks to anyone. I would like them to take care of me as well as my loved ones when the time comes. read more

Perhaps it seems strange to be giving a yelp review for a funeral parlor. However, I just want to get the word out about this wonderful wonderful place. My mother recently passed away after a long bout with Alzheimer's disease and we used Starks funeral parlor to help us prepare a celebration of her life as well as a funeral service the following day. We were treated with such care and respect and I felt like the staff at Starks did their very best to help take care of us. The added so many wonderful details to my mom's celebration. The kindness each and every staff member had was amazing. The attention to detail was way beyond anything We expected. These are always the most difficult times for families and they did everything above and beyond we could've asked for. The facility is beautiful, peaceful, clean and just impeccable. When my daughter passed away unexpectedly I was distraught and didn't even know where to begin. She was not a religious person so I knew holding her services at a church was out. I had driven by Stark's many times and dropped in to check them out. From the very moment I walked in the door, I knew this was the place for my daughter's Celebration of Life. The people there, Shayneh, Lydia, Audrey, Aaron, (all of them!) are so sensitive and truly cared about my daughter and sharing the story of her life. The facility is not like a funeral home, it's more like a mountain retreat! Their philosophy is to gather together and talk about the person who has passed away, to share photos, stories, food, music (a live band!), whatever you like! My daughter's viewing was in their devotional room, and they had enlarged and framed at least 100 of the photos I sent to them, and placed them all around her and around the room amongst all of the flowers and other memorabilia. It was shockingly beautiful! They served grilled cheese sandwiches, and deep fried mac and cheese because they were my daughter's favorite foods, along with champagne! The entire celebration was all about my daughter's life. In every room they played a DVD with hundreds of photos of my daughter, and music we chose to accompany them. I can't say enough about this beautiful and comforting place. Sooo many people have told me it was the most amazing service they had ever been to. AND with valet parking!
