I went to Starlight Nail Salon on Friday (03/06) for an acrylic nail appointment. When I arrived, the employees were running around the salon openly complaining to customers about being overbooked. Even though I had an appointment, I waited about 30 minutes before being seen. When Joyce began working on my nails, it was clear she was rushing. While she was filing, four of the tips she had just applied actually popped off my fingers. It also appeared that no proper prep work had been done on my natural nails before applying the acrylics and tips. Within two hours of leaving the salon, my natural nail tips were already separating from the acrylics, which is typically a sign of improper nail preparation. I called the salon as soon as they opened on Saturday and explained what was happening. I also mentioned that I had my bridal shower that day, so I could come in on Sunday. At first they said they could "fix" the nails, but I repeatedly told them I wanted them removed entirely because separated acrylics can trap moisture and bacteria, which can lead to infections like Green Nail Syndrome (caused by Pseudomonas bacteria). They eventually agreed to remove them and issue a refund. About five minutes after my call, the owner called me back and asked me to text Joyce directly so she could see the mistake. I explained that it would be highly unprofessional for me, as a customer, to contact an employee directly, and that they could simply take their own photos when I came in Sunday. When I returned Sunday, the manager was extremely helpful and respectful. She said she doesn't personally do nails but understood why I would want them removed due to infection concerns. Unfortunately, the situation with Joyce became very uncomfortable. She blamed the separation on my natural nails being "too short." I have had acrylics done at many salons up and down the East Coast and have never experienced this issue. This was clearly due to rushed service and improper nail prep. When I told Joyce I preferred to have them removed and refunded rather than redone by her, she became loud and aggressive. She began yelling across the salon at the manager and even the owner on the phone. At one point she grabbed my thumb to take a picture and physically pushed my natural nail and acrylic together so the separation wouldn't show in the photo. She also tried to pose my hands for a social media picture. When I said I did not want my hands photographed, she repeatedly pulled on my hands and arms until another employee stepped in and began removing my nails. While my nails were soaking off, Joyce continued walking around the salon on her phone complaining about me and making a scene. I want to be clear: I was never upset that the nails didn't come out right. Mistakes happen. I simply wanted them removed so I wouldn't risk an infection. The manager ultimately apologized and refunded me, which I do appreciate. However, the experience was extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional due to Joyce's behavior. If you choose to visit Starlight Nail Salon, I strongly recommend avoiding Joyce. My experience with her was rushed, sloppy, and very unprofessional. read more

A male employee came over to me and asked what services I was there for. I said, "regular manicure." He motioned for me to go to the back of the shop. I had no idea what he was saying and asked him three times where I was supposed to go. He finally said wash and sink. I washed my hands, and he pointed to the front of the space. It took some clarification of where I was supposed to go. I finally sat down at his station and was asked to choose a color. I did (lavender) and he started on my nails. My (natural) nails were quite long and I asked him to trim them. I wanted round, the next thing I know, they were square. He started to trim my cuticles. I yelled OUCH from the pain, but he kept going totally disinterested in my discomfort. The second time he tore into my cuticle, I stopped him and told him he was hurting me. He told me he wasn't. This appointment seemed different than other salons, so I clarified with him again that it was to be a regular manicure. He said, no, he was doing a gel manicure. I asked him why I would need a gel manicure if he saw that I had long, strong nails, then cut them. In pain and frustrated, I told him to stop and asked how much do I have to pay for this pain to end. He said $35, which I paid him (I know, stupid me). I had him remove the clear crap off of one hand. I told him I was going to post this review and how he had hurt me. He said he didn't care. I had May nails done today. I had one color of dip put on them. The women burned my finger several times with the sander. Then she tore my nail. Finally, not 5 hours after leaving the salon....my nail is chipped. $50 for a very bad job on my nails! read more

saw an almost 5 star rating on google and expected at least an okay manicure... just look at the pictures and you will see this was not the case. didn't shape my nails in the slightest, cut my nail bed and my finger is still bleeding an hour later, showed a picture that the tech worked directly from and the result was bumpy uneven coats, smeared lines, and not even close to the photo shown. I saw the design was not what I wanted early on and asked if she could just paint over and leave it a solid color with no design, and she told me she would need to completely start over when at that point I knew I'd be better off painting them at home. I'm usually not one to complain or leave bad reviews but this was quite easily the worst manicure I have ever received and I was already looking up different salons before I got to my car. read more

I wanted to run out of the pedicure chair. The service was piss poor. I do not recommend coming here even if it's the last resort.

First time at Starlight, as we have been trying to find nail salons to become regulars at, but I always have my nails done, so I knew what to expect. I asked for a gel manicure with a colored french tip. Nail tech was rushed from the beginning, like she would rather be anywhere but doing my nails. Steps were skipped-- lotion was forgotten because she was too preoccupied with getting another client started when we were not finished. My nails are broken, bleeding, and glued to my fingers. Not shaped, all different lengths, not smooth. Lines are not straight and don't reach the edge of my nails. My fingertips are painted too. And on top of that, one of the more expensive gel manicures I have gotten. Not usually one to post a 1 Star review or complain. Needless to say, we won't be going back to Starlight. read more

This place sucks. First off they will try and overcharge if it's your first time. I told the older male nail tech that it was my first time and I was a bit nervous and they took advantage of that. 65 bucks for a set of basic gel nails with no designs or nothing, finding out from my friend they overcharged me terribly. And when I called them about it the next day asking how much a basic set is and they said 47 and then I asked why was I charged 65, the woman on the phone made up a million excuses and then hung up on me. (There was no arguing or anything). I wanted them removed due to terrible itching and just a minor inconvenience (the latter not related to this place) over a week or so after I got them and today I went to another nail salon and with a first look and some picking the gentleman working was baffled at how quickly the paint was coming off. When I was actually getting them off they were easily getting popped off with a little slider my nail tech was using and it all around took 15 minutes in total. It was way too easy and I told my friend about it and she said if they came off that easy they did a horrible job. Which I agree with. DO NOT GO HERE. GO TO ANOTHER PLACE. read more

We gave been coming since they opened. Always clean and very relaxing. My teenage daughters and I frequent here regularly. We've done waxing, acrylic nails, gel manicure, dip manicure as well as pedicures. Always happy with the results. I was reluctant to go anywhere during COVID reopening but they taking a responsible approach to cleanliness and social distancing. Happy to have them in our neighborhood read more

The service is great!! This salon is new and clean!! They open the sterilized tools in front of you so you know your getting a clean set. I got a gel manicure and it is probably the best I have gotten in a while. They really take there time making sure the cuticle looks nice and paint the nails very carefully. I would do ANYTHING to avoid this place. I booked eyelash extensions here a couple weeks prior because they were the only place with anything available for the day i needed. Their website looks like a nice salon, not a chop shop nail salon. I get there and have to wait TWO hours. I really wanted to feel pretty for what i had to do that weekend so i stuck it out. I do appreciate that the lady, Lina who did my extensions kept checking up on me and apologizing - but still does not justify this. The room they do this is is just a storage room. Dirty blanket on the chair- i wish i had the nerve to just get up and leave. After she started doing my lashes she says they are "temporary". They didn't state this on their website, if they had i wouldn't have spent $40 for them to literally apply crappy, stiff dollar store lashes- and they were SO uneven. Save your money and don't go here. The icing on top, when i got home i yawned and they completely fell off from that. read more
