So I did some research for a local tailor and decided to give Vihan a try based on the reviews. What I found was an institution of over 50 years in North Jersey. Vihan Custom Tailors was exactly what I was searching for in a custom shop. First and foremost, Joe was super welcoming and gregarious. I explained I needed a tux for an upcoming wedding and outlined my timing. He was helpful and very accommodating. If I had a dollar for every time Joe said "no problem" to any of my requests, it would have paid for the tux! Just by looking at me, he brought me to the rack with my size to get a good fit. The quality of the jackets was immediately noticeable. All of the blazers were stylish. The process was quick and painless. Next, Joe showed me around the store so I could see the rest of their dapper inventory. We added a shirt and a couple accessories and I was on my way. When my tux came in, I met Vihan, the founder and tailor of the shop. During the fitting, I watched a master in action. My body is on the stockier side so I'm always concerned about the fit of suits. Vihan assured me it wouldn't be an issue. After the fitting, I asked Joe if one of the blazers I liked the previous visit could be ready with my tuxedo on short notice for the rehearsal dinner. As usual, Joe's answer was "no problem!" When the tuxedo and blazer came in I couldn't be happier. I love the quality of the tux. It immediately stood out for the premium material and intricate stitching. Vihan & his team did a fantastic job with the alterations, including to my shirt. The tuxedo was form-fitting and not boxy. I was ecstatic with the fit. During the wedding festivities, I was extremely excited about how well the blazer and the tuxedo looked and felt. Both outfits stood out; especially the tux in a sea of tuxes. Needless to stay I will be going to Vihan for all of my menswear and tailoring needs in the future. Loved getting to know the Joe, Vihan & the team. You'll always be in good hands with them. In the age of department stores, a family-owned, local bespoke tailor is quite the find. We had someone come up and introduce themselves saying they were going to work with us (we had an appointment) but after waiting 10+ minutes for them to finish up with a client downstairs another person came up to us to show us dresses. While we were waiting, we were asked to wait downstairs (general shopping area) as to not disturb the vibe of upstairs (bridal only). Which is fine but it would have been nice to see the dresses while we were waiting. Also, since there were 2 more groups waiting at the time all the seats in the store were taken so we were awkwardly standing off to the side. Finally we were able to see the dresses and I am not sure if they just had like the newest collection available for try-on but I felt like their selection was limited. I scheduled an appointment because I kept getting ads on instagram for them with a ton of beautiful lace ballgowns with a ton of variety but in store there were like three. By the time we tried on the dresses we were just so over it I didn't really ask any follow ups as to why the selection was so small, so my recommendation would be to call ahead and check to see if the dresses you are interested in are in store. As bridal appointments go, I felt that it was missing the experience. Like it felt more like I was going shopping for everyday clothes if that makes sense. It was missing the atmosphere, lighting, seating, champagne, etc.

I had been looking to replace work suits through a…read more"made-to-measure" company because I'm short and barrel chested and very few off the rack suits are an option for a proper fit, but I do not have the budget right now for true custom suiting. I chose MdT over some of the more established options because they showed up in DC temporarily at the right place and time, and they seemed a little more conservative in styling than SuitSupply. I ended up buying two suits from MdT during a pop-up event they did in DC. I'm pleased with the finish, styling, and price point, I ended up spending about $1400 for 2 half-canvas suits. The overall experience was pleasant, including selection of fabric, options, and measurements. The "style valet" talked through what I was buying the suits for and what my work and office environments are like, and my general wardrobe and style. After about an hour session (including measurements taken), I had to wait about 3 weeks for my first suit. I had to have the first set of pants tailored, but after communicating the issues back to the "style valet", the second suit addressed those issues and was good to go straight out of the box. Given the inherent challenges of building a suit off a single measurement, I'd recommend that MdT is best if you're in New York and can go in for a second measurement once your first item is ready for you. But I made it work from another city. My assigned "valet" was pretty responsive and helpful by email. In sum, I recommend MdT, though if you're in NYC you've got a lot more options. This is a very competitive niche but I'm happy with the quality, service, and value I got from Martin de Tours.

I ask what's up. 2 days later, they say everything was sent at the same time, and I should just wait. I email again a few days later... no response. I email again... they say they'll check. But no follow up - so I email yet again. Oh, they found it, they just never shipped it. Whoops. Even then, it took 2 more followup emails and 3 more business days before they even handed it to UPS.
