Went on a boat tour of lower Manhattan for $25 per person. Purchase tickets online 2 hours in advance hence the discount tickets. Everyone seated outside despite the strong winds. Close-up views of Hudson Yards, Empire State Building, Chelsea piers, Little Island, Hoboken, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Freedom Tower, Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, 911 Memorial. Captain did a few U turns for extended views of Statue of Liberty and Brooklyn Bridge viewable from both sides of the boat. The front of the boat was a very popular place for viewing in spite of the winds. Hardest part was getting here has no nearby subways stations. Subway station closest was Hudson yards and 34th, even then it was a 1 mile walk to get to this place near the Intrepid aircraft carrier exhibit on 12th and 46th. The night time cruise at 7:30 is the perfect time to catch some gorgeous sunset photos and enjoy a few pre dinner beverages with an amazing view. The tour guide was funny and knowledgeable and I enjoyed the music they played as well keeping the good vibes up. Perfect length of 90 minutes. I recommend getting there early. 30-40 mins so that you can get your preferred place to sit but you can also walk around the boat the entire time. I went on a sunday night and it was not even close to packed. Drink prices are pretty average for NYC and they had a decent selection including liquor. I removed a star because of an unfortunate situation with a groupon that I had purchased, and it honestly almost turned me off from doing the cruise at all but I am glad I still went. I paid for a groupon of a night time cruise for 90 minutes then was made to pay an extra fee just to go on the cruise I had already booked. Sunk cost theory made me go through with it but the entire interaction over the groupon was less than ideal, including them using my groupon voucher without me showing up. I prefer having these conversations on the phone but between the separate numbers on groupon and the company site no one would pick up. So just be warned about that situation. Don't bother with paying extra for priority seating. We were there 30 minutes early. Everyone gets on the boat at the same time and nobody monitors who sits where - except for the VIP space upstairs. We paid extra and had to stand towards the middle of the boat while people without priority bracelets had great seats. Stick with Circle Line which is what was recommended to us by locals but we decided to try a smaller company and save a little money. Mistake. read more

The complimentary drink was a nice touch and added to the relaxing vibe. The timing of the tour was perfect, long enough to experience all the highlights without feeling rushed. We got incredible views of the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty from every angle, and so many beautiful New York cityscapes. After a debacle with another tour company left me and my family holding the bag, I quickly went on Viator looking for a tour last minute. I found Starship did a river tour that allowed you to see the Brooklyn Bridge, The Statue of Liberty and other sights. I quickly booked and we made our way over there. The traffic to get to Hudson River Park, where they sail out of was nightmarish. We had a hotel in Manhattan, not far from it and it still took us an hour. This is no fault of the company, I am just warning anyone wanting to go on a tour. You need to leave ridiculously early! The tour guide was good, the ship has drinks and snacks which you will need considering the tour takes some time. That said, the problem are your fellow tourists. We had a horrid family who hogged the views and wouldn't allow anyone to properly see or take picture... until I got mad. I started talking smack to them and pushed forward and let others come to the front. The fact I had to do this because no staff members would do anything about it, sucked! Moreover, i think they need to reduce the number of people on these tours a bit so it can be more comfortable and enjoyable. No one told us we had no access to outside upper deck. Just before boarding we heard about extra fee for $40. This has never been my experience with river cruises. We always had access to upper deck. Our tour was so much fun! Our guide, Darius was entertaining and very informative. He made sure to include interesting history tidbits throughout the tours and let us know when there were iconic shots to be made. The photographer on board was also great and took several shots to make sure that we got a few that we liked. The boat itself was very clean, including the bathroom. The American flag flying astern was rather shredded, so I asked the captain if he might consider getting a new one. First he told me it wasn't that bad, then to not worry about it. Seems disrespectful to fly a damaged flag, so sorry my request didn't seem to be taken seriously. All the rest was great. Easy ticket purchase, ship not too crowded, lovely evening weather, nice long 90-minute sail, interesting landmarks pointed out, but not a running stream of commentary so a good balance. I witnessed an older couple with mobility problems being helped to the rail by employees to get them a nice souvenir photo, and then helping them back to seats. I disembarked last (so I could have that conversation with the captain about the flag) and saw the man sitting in the waiting room while the woman was in the restroom. He was looking at the printed photos he received, with a big grin on his face. Blessings on the two employees who made their day. read more

We were blatantly lied to by the staff at Battery Park who promised that after the cruise, the bus would offer two drop-off options: back to Battery Park or to Times Square. However, after the cruise, the operator told us they don't go to Times Square anymore and told us to just take the train. I was traveling with my senior parents, so being stranded and forced onto the subway was incredibly inconvenient and misleading. Instead, like most passengers, we were crammed into a small outdoor area in the bow that had NO seating.. Most of the boat was enclosed, with very limited seating. AND, if we were inside you were subject to the very loud and very stupid DJ narrative. The boat smelled bad. IT was not built as a siteseeting ferry but instead like a party boat. Fun time on the cruise on the Hudson. Very informative host, that was funny, witty, and overall pleasure. Boat has an upper/lower section and the ride while a little choppy was a great experience. Slowed down at the hot spots and went just the right speed overall to enjoy the other sites, without losing interest but having time to digest the sites. read more

Staff at Battery Park that sold us tickets lied about the upstairs area, he said we would be able to go upstairs or downstairs but when we boarded the boat they told us we had to pay an extra 30 dollars to access the upstairs area. They also lied about the bus drop off after the tour (the bus only goes back to battery park and doesn't go to time square!). Plus he said that we would board the board down the street and it was a 30 minute bus ride each way! We decided to pay for the VIP area. Set on the brown bench, it was dirty and covered with melted chocolate. My husband's beige shorts got covered with melted chocolate. We told the employee and they didn't do anything about it, didn't even apologize! When we were getting off the boat my husband laughed and the employee named Darius yelled at him several times saying choose to be happy sir! Very insulting!!! Worst Experience of Our Lives - Do NOT Book This Cruise New Year's Eve 2026 Fireworks Cruise on Star Of The Northeast 0/5 - If that were possible This was by far the worst experience I have ever had, and the most heartbreaking way to welcome a New Year with my family. I am writing this so other families do not make the same terrible mistake we did. Initially, we were informed that boarding would start at 8:00 PM and the cruise would depart at 9:00 PM. Later, they sent an email changing the timing--but of course, we never saw it, because we were traveling and sightseeing in New York that day. A New Year's Eve family cruise company should know better than to rely on last-minute emails without proper coordination or signage. We arrived at the pier at 6:15 PM with our children, and hundreds of families were already there, standing in the freezing cold. Multiple cruises were boarding from the same pier, and while staff from other cruise companies were actively checking guests, giving instructions, and boarding their passengers smoothly, there was absolutely NO information about Star Of The Northeast. No signs. No announcements. No staff helping. When their staff finally showed up and people started asking valid questions, they were incredibly rude and dismissive, making comments like "I will not repeat myself" and showing zero empathy. This was shocking and unacceptable, especially considering there were children and elderly people standing outside in extreme cold. Boarding didn't even begin until 10:00 PM. That means we stood outside in freezing weather for nearly FOUR HOURS. By that time, my 7-year-old daughter was exhausted, freezing, and miserable. Her condition was honestly heartbreaking to watch. Then came the worst part. They started boarding in the order of VIP, first deck, second deck, and by the time general admission (yes, people who paid nearly $1,000) were allowed onboard, EVERY SINGLE SEAT INSIDE WAS ALREADY TAKEN. Let me repeat that: We paid $1,000 and there was NO place to sit. My child had to stand for the entire cruise. Priority ticketing does NOT mean that general admission families--especially those with kids--don't deserve BASIC HUMAN COMFORT. They could have easily provided benches, seating zones, or any arrangement for general admission. They chose not to. Once onboard, the nightmare continued. The cruise was extremely overcrowded. The entire night was spent standing in lines--first for drinks, then for food. No organization. No crowd control. At 12:00 midnight, the moment we were supposed to celebrate the New Year together as a family, I was standing alone with two plates of food on one side of the boat, while my family was stuck somewhere else on the other side. We couldn't even find each other. I watched the New Year arrive with tears in my eyes, standing alone in a food line, while my family was separated from me. This was supposed to be a moment of joy. Instead, it was painful, exhausting, and emotionally devastating. My little one finally said, "I just want to sit and go home." That broke me completely. After midnight, instead of returning promptly, the boat just wandered around the Hudson for no reason, and when we finally returned to the pier, we had to stand outside AGAIN for over an hour, because other cruises were unloading first. Star Of The Northeast was clearly given the least priority. Once again, families were forced to wait in freezing temperatures, completely drained and miserable. We finally reached our hotel room at 3:15 AM, knowing we had to leave for the airport early the next morning. The New Year began with exhaustion, anger, regret, and guilt for putting my family through this nightmare. This was not just a bad experience--it was a complete failure of planning, customer care, safety, and basic decency. DO NOT book the New Year's Eve Fireworks Cruise on Star Of The Northeast. If you are hoping for even a NORMAL experience, forget about a good one--you won't get it. I will never book Star Of The Northeast again in my life, and I sincerely hope this review saves other families from ruining their precious moments and memories the way ours were ruined. BEWARE: PRICE GOUGING AND PAYWALL, NOTHING IS INCLUDED! First, was approached by ticket seller on the street. Was told it was 39 dollars a person for the tour. Was told it had seating and heat available (which was important to us because it was snowing in NYC and we're not used to snowy weather.) Paid with card for two tickets and seen that I was charged 107.98 (that is not 39x2, which is 78, that is almost 30 extra dollars.) I understand taxes and things like that but I was not made aware of a 10 dollar service charge, if that charge was for using card I had cash I could've paid with to avoid that. The sign outside the building they took us to while waiting for the tour to start said tickets were 34.99, not even 39 or the 54 per person we ended up paying. Once we got to the building to wait for the tour, we were told it's snacks on board as well and moments for photography. We got on board, obviously it's cold, there is LIMITED seating, maybe 4 benches up top, not sure about the bottom level of the boat because we did not go down there. There was no snacks, they had to be paid for and the heated seating area was an extra 20 dollar charge. Would not let you go past the velvet ropes without paying, which left the hundred plus people on this boat crowded together trying to take pictures of the monuments. The "guided" speaker was super low so unless everyone got quiet, you couldn't really hear where you were at and what was being said about that particular place. Some employees just sat inside of the warmed area with the customers who paid the hefty 20 dollar fee. A man came and asked if I wanted a picture with lady liberty, I asked him if it was included because the sign said the tour included a free photo. He then said it's 15 dollars to take the photo, and I declined. Was a very lackluster experience for this to be my first visit to NYC. I understand the weather and lack of visibility due to snow was it their fault but it was ALOT of FALSE advertising, which if all the information was made available up front, I probably world have NOT taken this tour. Transparency is the BEST policy, and this company clearly takes advantage of their customers. Don't not use this tour company they will scam you. We paid, told to get on bus was told we would get and do a lot for our money but we were scammed. When we got off the bus that was taken us to the ferry, everyone one else was allowed entry into the ferry but we were stopped and not allowed to get on the ferry with everyone else. We were told to go get on another ferry. We were told we would board at 11:15 but we were not allowed to get on the "other" ferry. The cheaper older looking boat, until 12:00pm Then we try to get on the nicer boat with everyone we road the bus with they wanted to charge us another 50/ each to get one the nicer ferry. At Battery park make sure you are getting what you want to pay for. It's not starship. Do not pay for Starship tours ask questions. I'm so pisses off read more
