Garry was amazing. Even though I was the only person in the class who signed up, it was a great experiance not once was it awkward. The only problem I had was looking for the room but it was in the basement,(take the stairs downstairs and then make a right, go the opposite way of the water fountain and it is right there!) He had snacks and drinks available and was very attentive with any questions and answered everyone I had. He has some great stories to tell and will find mutual interest with you to me you feel comfortable. He is literally there every step of the way and will correct you if your making a mistake, but in a way where you dont feel bad. Garry was VERY accommodating for scheduling a CPR Skills Test with me. I took the AHA BLS Online Part I video lesson course and needed to test-out for re-certification. I called StartCPR and spoke with Garry to schedule an appointment. Due to my work schedule, he happily offered to accommodate my availability to fit me into a 1-on-1 session beyond the listed course dates online. I have taken over 10 CPR/emergency response classes during a long career in law enforcement.This has been my most enjoyable class containing true first class practical real life advice. Gary prioritized experiental learning interwoven with health care methodologies. It shows that he gained his knowledge over a long career in the field in fire fighting and tutelage with health care professionals. Excellent instruction. Both demonstration and hands on practice with manakins. Instructor , Garry, was experienced and knew what was important for the class participants to know and how to convey this important information. He taught basic technique, he used lots of repetition by giving us different examples of "real world " examples, asked us basic questions of procedure which helped to reinforce our memory, repeated technique demonstrations while talking , allowed time for practice while carefully observing our understanding of importance of using proper technique. I've taken ACLS and BLS courses several times over my career as a nurse. However I was a bit rusty with ACLS this year as I've been off the ICU for over a year now. The material is relatively the same with a few changes along the way, but if you're not using it, you lose it. What stood out about StartCPR, specifically my instructor Garry, was there was no stress endured as I re-learned these skills and information. StartCPR is a very professional company, with current technology and equipment. My class was offered in a clean, comfortable environment. I will definitely sign up for future classes with StartCPR. Paula F. Gary is an excellent instructor. This is the third class that I have taken at StartCPR. I don't have enough good things to say. Gary is very patient with skills that you may be struggling with. In my case, I struggled with getting a tight fit around the mask. He was very patient and gave me good feedback where I needed to improve to get a tight fit. I feel more comfortable and confident now. Gary is VERY experienced and professional. StartCPR is not comparable to other BLS ACLS PALS classes! It's truly a different outlook on learning. Garry the instructor is not only there to give out the information provided by AHA, he's there to actually teach you! He breaks down all topics into terms a health care provided or even a non health care provided would understand! He encourages team work and does not pressure you for answers. He helps you think through the process of saving a life. He's kind, compassionate, and patient. I will never go anywhere else for my certificates again! I'm not typically this disorganized but [insert reasons X.Y, Z here]: Garry was *so* incredibly flexible. I was able to get in quickly due to the number of classes he offers. He was very kind when I got lost and was a few minutes late AND offered to refund me for a portion of the class (as I didn't meant to sign up for First Aid as well as CPR). He was funny, informative, and concise. I would hands down take his classes again and recommend them to others. This was my first time taking ACLS, I was really nervous. Garry is such a great instructor that it made the class so much easier. He also seems like he cares about what he teaching. The location is nice. Tons of parking. It's right off the highway. They do offer snacks, water, and coffee. They use a nice large screen TV to show the mandatory AHA videos. Garry uses an app to simulate EKG strips and help you go through a code. The class seats about 12. So you'll definitely feel more catered to, especially if the group is even smaller. read more

Garry was great! I was able to get in for Saturday class by registering Thursday. I took ACLS with him. He took the anxiety out of the class. Highly recommend him!! Get your initial certification that is AHA in just 8 hours instead of 16. He is retired F.F/emt and I think they make the best instructors because they have been in so many codes. Really nice, pleasant guy, who is very knowledgeable. Such a great experience I'm thinking of taking Pals and it's not required but still a great certification to have as a travel nurse. read more

I was extremely nervous and apprehensive of taking this class. It went as smoothly as possibly and Garry is the best! Hes the most nicest and patient instructor ever! He also has alot of interesting stories and is very knowledgable. You can tell he wants you to learn and succeed. I highly recommend this course with Garry. I would come back here for classes. Took the 2 day BSA certification course for Wilderness First Aid with my daughter. Excellent course! The instructor, Garry, was extremely knowledgeable and kept things moving with good examples of scenes in the field. My adult daughter took the course as she will be the lead first aid staff this summer at a camp in a remote location. I took it as a health care provider wanting to gain knowledge about how to safely assess a scene outside of an urban location. We both found the course to be very helpful! read more

I took the Heartsaver CPR/AED course with Garry and it was amazing! I've been certified a few times in my life and every other CPR training I've ever taken has been stressful and terrible. Garry was a great teacher and shared his real world experience as a paramedic as he was teaching. There's no other way to put it--Garry is one of the best. He has decades of experience; but most importantly, he makes recertification as painless as he can. He is following the IDPH recommendations for phase four: masks are required as well as social distancing for the BLS classes. There is a 5 student maximum as of right now. Garry always runs on time, and the cards are always sent within a few hours of completing the class. I highly recommend taking his classes. read more

I've gone to several CPR classes, but this class was truly the best one I've ever gone to. Gary is extremely knowledgable and he is clear and concise in his instructional methods. I enjoyed his personal stories of when he was a firefighter. It made it even more applicable to real life. Garry did a great job of keeping the classes interesting and to the point. He was also very accommodating when I had to change class dates at the last minute. Two years ago, I came to StartCPR for my PALS skills testing and was impressed. This year I took, both, ACLS and PALS classes within the same weekend and am set for another two years on both.
